A New Phenothiazine-Based Fluorescent Sensor for Detection of Cyanide.

A new fluorescent sensor for the detection of CN- was developed based on the conjugation of phenothiazine fluorophore and benzofuran unit. By the nucleophilic attacking of CN- to the fluoroacetylamino group in the sensor, the additional reaction of CN- and carbonyl group induced the ICT (intramolecular charge transfer) effect in the molecule and caused the fluorescence quenching sensor. The titration experiments show that the sensor has good sensitivity, selectivity and quick response for CN-. In addition, the fluorescent detection of CN- in the living cell and zebrafish experiments demonstrated the value of the sensor in tracing the CN- in biological systems.

A reaction-based fluorescent sensor for detection of cyanide in aqueous media

A simple boronic acid derivative was utilized as a reaction-based receptor for CN− in aqueous solution. The receptor showed a selective and sensitive response to CN− over other various anions via nucleophilic addition of CN− to the imine moiety of the boronic-based receptor.

A simple 7-azaindole-based ratiometric fluorescent sensor for detection of cyanide in aqueous media

A simple, relatively low molecular weight 7-azaindole derivative was synthesized and fully characterized. The 1-methyl-7-azaindole moiety was substituted with a dicyanovinyl group which served as an electron-withdrawing group and also as a sensing unit. The nucleophilic addition of cyanide ion to the dicyanovinyl moiety induces a remarkable change in the emission spectrum, enabling ratiometric fluorescent sensing of cyanide ions in aqueous media. An excited state intramolecular charge transfer mechanism played a key role in the sensing event and the mechanism was supported by density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory calculations. Furthermore, test strips containing the sensor molecule were easily fabricated and provide a low-cost, practical and efficient test kit for cyanide ion.

2-Hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde oxime (receptor 1) serves as a selective chemosensor for cyanide anion (CN−). In the presence of CN−, an enhanced fluorescent intensity and red-shift were observed. The observed complexation between receptor 1 and CN− may cause by a hydrogen bonding interaction between the OH group of receptor 1 and CN−.

A “donor-two-acceptor” sensor for cyanide detection in aqueous solution

A “donor-two-acceptor” cyanide sensor L based on 3-ethyl-2-methyl-1,3-benzothiazol-3-ium iodide and 5-nitrosalicylaldehyde has been designed and prepared. This structurally simple sensor displays rapid response for cyanide over other common anions (F−, Cl−, Br−, I−, AcO−, H2PO4−, HSO4−, ClO4−, S2−, N3− and SCN−) in aqueous solution. A large blue shift (87nm) was also observed in the absorption spectra in response to CN−. The bleaching of the color could be clearly observed by the naked eye. By the nucleophilic attacking of CN− to the benzothiazol C-2 atom of the sensor, the Intramolecular Charge Transfer progress was blocked with color changed and fluorescence quenched. The mechanism of the reaction of the sensor with the cyanide ion was established by using 1H NMR and mass spectrometry.

A new colorimetric fluorescent sensor for ratiometric detection of cyanide in solution, test strips, and in cells

A new high selective and sensitive fluorescent sensor for the detection of cyanide was developed based on the nucleophilic attack of CN− with a color change from purple to colourless. The chemosensor was used for fabrication of test strips that can detect cyanide in aqueous samples. The living animal fluorescence experiment demonstrated the practical value of the sensor in tracing the CN− in biological systems.

Reaction‐Based Colorimetric and Ratiometric Fluorescence Sensor for Detection of Cyanide in Aqueous Media

A stilbene-based compound (1) has been prepared and was highly selective for the detection of cyanide anion in aqueous media even in the presence of other anions, such as F(-), Cl(-), Br(-), I(-), ClO(4)(-), H(2)PO(4)(-), HSO(4)(-), NO(3)(-), and CH(3)CO(2)(-). A noticeable change in the color of the solution, along with a prominent fluorescence enhancement, was observed upon the addition of cyanide. The color change was observed upon the nucleophilic addition of the cyanide anion to the electron-deficient cyanoacrylate group of 1. The spectral changes induced by the reaction were analyzed by comparison with two model compounds, such as compound 2 with dimethyl substituents and compound 3 without a cyanoacrylate group. An intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) mechanism played a key role in the sensing properties, and the mechanism was supported by DFT/TDDFT calculations.

Investigation of a new electrochemical cyanide sensor based on Ag nanoparticles embedded in a three-dimensional sol–gel

In this study, a novel sensor for cyanide detection was developed by self-assembling of a sol–gel network and silver nanoparticles. Silver doped silica nanocomposite was synthesized via a sol–gel technique combined with a nanoparticle preparing method. Then a cleaned gold electrode (GE) was immersed in a hydrolyzed mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS) sol–gel solution containing Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) to assemble three-dimensional silica gel. Thus, modified electrode (GE/sol–gel/AgNPs) was prepared to detect cyanide based on the specific reaction of Ag nanoparticle and CN −. The size of Ag nanoparticles and silica pores was examined by atomic force microscopy (AFM) around 34.5 nm and 91.3 nm, respectively. The performance and factors influencing the performance of the resulting sensor were studied in detail. The detection limit of the sensor was 1.4 × 10 −8 mol L −1, and the linear range was from 1.5 × 10 −6 mol L −1 to 2.1 × 10 −4 mol L −1. And also, common contaminants at levels presenting in industrial waste water did not interfere with the assay. Moreover, the studied sensor exhibited high sensitivity, good reproducibility, and long-term stability.

Detection of cyanide using the taste sensor

This paper describes an application of taste sensor for detection of cyanide. The taste sensor consists of multichannel sensors with lipid membranes which are modeled on living organisms. One of characteristics of this sensor is a global selectivity. In this study, we have developed a new effective method which is able to control the charge of membranes for high sensitivity and selectivity of lipid membrane sensors. Using this method, sensors for free cyanide and complex cyanide were developed. We could detect total cyanide under the guideline limit. It was possible to detect free cyanide below the concentration 0.5ppm in river water. Measurement time is within five minutes. In conclusion, the taste sensor has a very powerful performance and advantage for real time monitoring of water quality.
