In this paper we prove that no non-trivial semigroup (φt)t≥0 consisting of analytic self-maps of the unit disk D generates a strongly continuous composition semigroup on Qp for p>0; that is, [φt,Qp]⫋Qp, which answers a question asked by A.G. Siskakis in 1996. We also give an affirmative answer to question in [9] that Qp,0⫋[φt,Qp] for all p>0 if the Denjoy-Wolff point of (φt)t≥0 is on the boundary of D, where Qp,0 is the closure of all polynomials in Qp space. Moreover, for a semigroup (φt)t≥0 with the Denjoy-Wolff point in D, we give a sufficient and necessary condition such that Qp,0⫋[φt,Qp] in terms of the infinitesimal generator of (φt)t≥0 for all p>0. As an application, a new characterization of Qp,0 in terms of semigroup (φt)t≥0 acting on Qp is given, which gives a generalization of the theorem of D. Sarason for VMOA.

Semigroups of Composition Operators in Analytic Morrey Spaces

Analytic Morrey spaces belong to the class of function spaces which, like BMOA, are defined in terms of the degree of oscillation on the boundary of functions analytic in the unit disc. We consider semigroups of composition operators on these spaces and focus on the question of strong continuity. It is shown that these semigroups behave like on BMOA.

Subnormality of Weighted Shifts Associated to Composition Operators

Let $$\varphi $$ be a linear fractional transformation mapping the unit disk $$\mathbb {D}$$ into itself and fixing 1, and let $$C_\varphi $$ be the usual composition operator induced by $$\varphi $$ on the Hardy space $$H^2(\mathbb {D})$$ . For a point z of $$\mathbb {D}$$ , the subspace generated by the reproducing kernels $$k_{\varphi ^{n}(z)}$$ ( $$n= 0, 1, \ldots $$ ) arising from iterates of z under $$\varphi $$ is invariant for the adjoint $$C^*_\varphi $$ . On this subspace, we show that $$C^*_\varphi $$ is similar to a weighted shift, and the subnormality and hyponormality of the shift or their lack (which, surprisingly, coincide) are determined by z and the location of the other fixed point of $$\varphi $$ in pleasing geometrical ways. These results are applied to semigroups of composition operators arising from linear fractional transformations.

A class of quasicontractive semigroups acting on Hardy and Dirichlet space

This paper provides a complete characterization of quasicontractive C 0-semigroups on Hardy and Dirichlet space with a prescribed generator of the form $${Af=Gf^\prime}$$ . We show that such semigroups are semigroups of composition operators, and we give simple sufficient and necessary condition on G. Our techniques are based on ideas from semigroup theory, such as the use of numerical ranges.

Cyclic representations of C*-algebras on Fock space

In this paper we characterize C*-algebras generated by semigroups of composition operators acting upon Fock space. With an approach of approximation from nonharmonic analysis, sufficient conditions for cyclic representations are obtained. We also characterize the cyclic representation of a C*-algebra of measures generated by Heisenberg groups.

Cesàro Operators on the Hardy Spaces of the Half-Plane

AbstractIn this article we study the Cesàro operatorand its companion operator 𝒯 on Hardy spaces of the upper half plane. We identify 𝒞 and 𝒯 as resolvents for appropriate semigroups of composition operators and we find the norm and the spectrum in each case. The relation of 𝒞 and 𝒯 with the corresponding Cesàro operators on Lebesgue spaces Lp(ℝ) of the boundary line is also discussed.

Compactness of resolvent operators generated by a class of composition semigroups on Hp

Consider a semigroup of composition operators $T_tf=f\circ \phi_t$, $t\geq 0$, acting on the standard Hardy space $H^p$ $(1\leq p<\infty)$ of the unit disk $D$. Assuming that the $\phi_t$ have a common fixed point at 0, a unique univalent function $h$ can be found such that $h(\phi_t(z))=e^{ct}h(z)$, $z\in D$, $t\geq 0$, where $c$ is a constant which is related to the infinitesimal generator $A$ of $\{T_t\}$. In this paper the compactness of the resolvent operator $R(\lambda,A)$ is studied using the function $h$. It is shown that $R(\lambda,A)$ is compact if and only if $h$ lies in $H^q$ for each $q<\infty$. In the cases where $R(\lambda,A)$ is not compact it is shown that the spectrum of $R(\lambda,A)$ contains a nontrivial disk. A condition under which compactness of $R(\lambda,A)$ implies compactness of the operators in $\{T_t\}$ is also obtained. The methods used are function-theoretic. Semigroups consisting of composition operators are considered on weighted Bergman spaces. They are strongly continuous, and their infinitesimal generators are identified. One specific semigroup is used to obtain information on an averaging operator.
