The Collins Asymmetry in Λ Hyperon Produced SIDIS Process at Electron–Ion Colliders

We investigate Collins asymmetry in the Λ hyperon produced semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) process based on the kinematical region of Electron-ion collider in China (EicC) and Electron–ion collider (EIC) within the transverse momentum dependence (TMD) factorization framework at next-to-leading-logarithmic order. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolution of the target proton transversity distribution function and the Collins function of the final-state Λ hyperon. The TMD evolution effect of the corresponding parton distribution functions (PDFs) and fragmentation functions (FFs) is considered with the help of parametrization of the non-perturbative Sudakov form factors for the proton PDFs and Λ fragmentation functions. We apply the parametrization of the collinear proton transversity distribution function and the model results of Λ Collins function from the diquark spectator model as the inputs of the TMD evolution to numerically calculate Collins asymmetry in Λ produced SIDIS process at the kinematical configurations of EIC and EicC. It can be shown that the asymmetry is significant and can be measured at EIC and EicC. The flavor dependence of transversity distribution functions could be further constrained by studying the Λ hyperon produced SIDIS process in the future to improve our understanding of the spin structure within nucleons.

Sivers and Boer-Mulders TMDs of the proton in a light-front quark-diquark model

We obtain the leading twist T-odd quark transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) of the proton, namely, the Sivers function ${f}_{1T}^{\ensuremath{\perp}q}(x,{p}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}^{2})$ and the Boer-Mulders function ${h}_{1}^{\ensuremath{\perp}q}(x,{p}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}^{2})$, in a light-front quark-diquark model constructed with the wave functions predicted by the soft-wall AdS/QCD. The gluon rescattering is crucial to predict nonzero T-odd TMDs. We study the utility of a nonperturbative $SU(3)$ gluon rescattering kernel going beyond the usual approximation of perturbative $U(1)$ gluons. The spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) associated with these T-odd TMDs are found to be consistent with HERMES and COMPASS data. We further predict the Sivers asymmetries of pion production in the SIDIS process in the kinematical region of the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and the EIC in China. We also evaluate the generalized Sivers and Boer-Mulders shifts and compare them with the available lattice QCD simulations.

Kotzinian-Mulders effect in semi-inclusive DIS within TMD factorization * *Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (12075043)

In this study, we investigate the Kotzinian-Mulders effect under semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) within the framework of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolution of the Kotzinian-Mulders function and the unpolarized fragmentation function . As a TMD distribution, the Kotzinian-Mulders function in the coordinate space in the perturbative region can be represented as the convolution of the C-coefficients and the corresponding collinear correlation function. The Wandzura-Wilczek approximation is used to obtain this correlation function. We perform a detailed phenomenological numerical analysis of the Kotzinian-Mulders effect in the SIDIS process within TMD factorization at the kinematics of the HERMES and COMPASS experiments. We observe that the obtained -, -, and -dependent Kotzinian-Mulders effects are basically consistent with the HERMES and COMPASS measurements. We also make predictions at EIC and EicC kinematics.

Mapping the kinematical regimes of semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering

We construct a language for identifying kinematical regions of transversely differential semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) cross sections with particular underlying partonic pictures, especially in the regions of moderate to low Q where sensitiv- ity to kinematical effects becomes non-trivial. These partonic pictures map to power law expansions whose leading contributions ultimately lead to well-known QCD factorization theorems. In order to establish the consistency of a particular observable in SIDIS process with an estimate of the appropriate underlying partonic picture, we introduce new quan- titative criteria expressed in terms of various ratios of partonic and hadronic momentum degrees of freedom. We propose how to use these criteria in phenomenology and provide a web tool which allows visualization of these ratios for any chosen kinematic configuration.

Phenomenology of transverse spin: Past, present and future

We summarize the most significant aspects in the study of transverse spin phenomena over the last few decades, focusing on Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering processes and hadronic production in e + e - annihilations. The phenomenology of transverse-momentum-dependent distribution and fragmentation functions will be reviewed in an in-depth analysis of the most recent developments and of the future perspectives.

QCD Factorization of Semi-Inclusive DIS Process at Operator Level**Supported by the National Nature Science Foundation of China under Grant No. 11275242

The operator level proof of factorization theorem exhibited in [arXiv:hep-ph/1307.4194] is extended to the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process(SIDIS). Factorization theorem can be proved at operator level if there are not detected soft hadrons. The key point is that the initial one-nucleon state is the eigenstate of QCD.

Key Future Measurements of TMDs at Jefferson Lab and Other Facilities

Transverse-momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) provide a description of nucleon structure in terms of the parton transverse momentum and its transverse spin. At leading twist there are eight TMDs, each offering a unique feature of quarks in a polarized or an unpolarized nucleon. The Sivers distribution is one of the most interesting TMD due to its non-universality. It has been extracted using the data from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS), but there is no data yet from spin-dependent Drell-Yan (DY) process. Such measurement will provide a crucial test of TMD formalism which predicts an equal magnitude and opposite sign for the Sivers function extracted from SIDIS and DY process. We will discuss key future measurements of TMDs using both SIDIS and DY process with a focus on Hall A SoLID SIDIS program at Jefferson Lab.

A study on the interplay between perturbative QCD and CSS/TMD formalism in SIDIS processes

We study the Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) cross section as a function of the transverse momentum, q T . In order to describe it over a wide region of q T , soft gluon resummation has to be performed. Here we will use the original Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism; however, the same procedure would hold within the improved Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) framework. We study the matching between the region where fixed order perturbative QCD can successfully be applied and the region where soft gluon resummation is necessary. We find that the commonly used prescription of matching through the so-called Y-factor cannot be applied in the SIDIS kinematical configurations we examine. In particular, the non-perturbative component of the resummed cross section turns out to play a crucial role and should not be overlooked even at relatively high energies. Moreover, the perturbative expansion of the resummed cross section in the matching region is not as reliable as it is usually believed and its treatment requires special attention.

Di-hadron SIDIS measurements at CLAS

Semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) is an essential tool to probe nucleon internal structure. Through single hadron SIDIS processes, indeed, it is possible to access the TMDs, containing information on both the longitudinal and transverse motion of the partons. In recent years, moreover, an increasing attention has been devoted to dihadron SIDIS. It constitutes the golden channel to access the higher-twist collinear Parton Distribution Functions e(x )a ndhL(x), so far only marginally known, whose extraction will complete the collinear description of the nucleon at the twist-3 level. The CLAS detector in the Hall-B at JLab, thanks to its large acceptance, is particularly suited for such measurements. Analyses aiming at the extraction of dihadron SIDIS Beam and Target- Spin Asymmetries are presently in progress. In these proceedings, preliminary results for the Beam-Spin Asymmetry are reported, together with a summary of the dihadron SIDIS experimental program at JLab.

Left-right asymmetry for meson production in SIDIS process

We analyze the left-right asymmetry in the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) process using a method where no weighting function are used. Considering all flavor of quarks, we reanalyze the π± production and extend our calculation on the K± production. The predictions on HERMES, COMPASS and JLab kinematics with transversely polarized nucleon target are shown in this paper.

Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering processes from small to large PT

We consider the azimuthal and PT-dependence of hadrons produced in unpolarized Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) processes, within the factorized QCD parton model. It is shown that at small PT values, P T ≲ 1GeV/c, lowest-order contributions, coupled to unintegrated (transverse-momentum-dependent) quark distribution and fragmentation functions, describe all data. At larger PT values, P T ≳ 1GeV/c, the usual pQCD higher-order collinear contributions dominate. Having explained the full PT range of available data, we give new detailed predictions concerning the azimuthal and PT-dependence of hadrons which could be measured in ongoing or planned experiments by HERMES, COMPASS and JLab Collaborations.

Role of Cahn and Sivers effects in deep inelastic scattering

The role of intrinsic $\bfk_\perp$ in inclusive and semi-inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering processes ($\ell p \to \ell h X$) is studied with exact kinematics within QCD parton model at leading order; the dependence of the unpolarized cross section on the azimuthal angle between the leptonic and the hadron production planes (Cahn effect) is compared with data and used to estimate the average values of $k_\perp$ both in quark distribution and fragmentation functions. The resulting picture is applied to the description of the weighted single spin asymmetry $A_{UT}^{\sin(\phi_\pi - \phi_S)}$ recently measured by the HERMES collaboration at DESY; this allows to extract some simple models for the quark Sivers functions. These are compared with the Sivers functions which succeed in describing the data on transverse single spin asymmetries in $\pup p \to \pi X$ processes; the two sets of functions are not inconsistent. The extracted Sivers functions give predictions for the COMPASS measurement of $A_{UT}^{\sin(\phi_\pi - \phi_S)}$ in agreement with recent preliminary data, while their contribution to HERMES $A_{UL}^{\sin\phi_\pi}$ is computed and found to be small. Predictions for $A_{UT}^{\sin(\phi_K - \phi_S)}$ for kaon production at HERMES are also given.
