After the first major allied victory of World War II, Sir Winston Churchill famously proclaimed, “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” Following the keynote speaker's remarks, several participants at the Injection Induced Seismicity Workshop held 6–8 November 2017 in Dallas, Texas, repeated “the end of the beginning” to describe the current situation with management of injection-induced seismicity. The event was the fourth session in a topical series of workshops hosted by SEG and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (supported by the American Rock Mechanics Association and the Seismological Society of America) that has evolved into a unique and dynamic forum fostering dialogue between industry, researchers, and regulators. The workshop series provides state-of-the-art presentations from technical leaders and thereby milestones documenting the evolution of this important issue.
