Occupational Health Hazards in Hospitality Industry and Their Prevention (Review article)

Introduction: Hospitality industry offers employment to people with differentpersonalities, background and skills through a wide diversity of different types ofoutlets services. Hospitality industry includes a wide range of tasks and jobs whichpose different risks. The hospitality industry is a key provider of jobs around the world.The complexity of the sector makes it difficult to estimate an overview of the situation.A wide range of hospitality businesses are directly or indirectly dependent on tourism;lodging, transportation, travel and trips. More attention goes towards working in hotelsand restaurant and to a lesser attention is given to supporting activities such as cleaningjobs and receiver services. The workforce in this sector is faced with a large numberof physical, chemical, ergonomic and psychological risks. This review has addressedseveral important points about hospitality industry; sectors of hospitality industry, theimportant of hospitality industry worldwide and controls of risks that may happen atdifferent workplace in the hospitality industry. It discusses the hazards that may occurin the latter. A risk assessment must be carried out on health hazards in hospitalityindustry. The risk assessment should identify risks and control them: including bothengineering and organization so as to avoid or reduce the risk of injury or illness. Thisreview focuses on effective control measures that protect workers from workplacehazards in hospitality industry. These measures help to avoid injuries, illnesses, andincidents, minimize or eliminate health risks. Also it helps employers to provide.workers with safe and healthful working conditions

Employers’ Perception towards Women Employees in Hospitality Industry at Gorakhpur City (Uttar Pradesh, India)

Hospitality industry in India is in growing phase. When it comes to Gorakhpur, which is a district in Uttar Pradesh, it has same condition here too. Gorakhpur posses almost all sectors of hospitality industry. As hospitality industry is new in India as well as in Gorakhpur, there are numerous perceptions exist inside the industry. These may be positive or negative both. This paper is focusing on employers' perception towards women employees in hospitality industry at Gorakhpur City. The paper reveals outcome based on employers' perception towards women employees at workplace. This paper also provides some suggestions to enhance position of women inside the industry at Gorakhpur.

Legal Regulation of Alcohol Sale in Retail Sectors of Hospitality Industry in Accra

This research examines the legal regulations governing the sale of alcohol in retail sectors of the Hospitality Industry in Accra, Ghana. The objectives of the study were to find out whether there are laws governing the sale of alcohol in the retail sectors and to establish what these laws are. Determine which governmental body is responsible for the enforcement of the alcohol regulations and how well they execute their duties. Examine the knowledge level of operators observing alcohol laws and ascertain the necessary requirements for operators to acquire license to operate. Descriptive survey design was used to quantitatively and qualitatively collect the data from drinking bar operators and law regulators/law enforcement body respectively. The sample procedure employed was the cluster sample method. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyse and process the data from the questionnaires and thematic analyses was used to qualitatively analyse the interview to augment the data from the questionnaire. Findings reveal that there are laws/regulations governing the sale of alcohol, regulated by the statutory boards, yet there is a big gap between the laws governing the sale of alcohol and what is being practiced /observed on the Ghanaian market. Majority of the alcohol sellers/operators did not know these laws and those who knew also find it very difficult to observe them. In conclusion, the knowledge and adherence of these laws is vital and beneficial to all, therefore the need to educate the citizenry. This study also offer suggestions to the regulators, that they should endeavour to reinstate these laws and help operators to obey them by educating, monitoring and administering punishment to those who do not abide by them.

In recent times, service establishments have invested considerable resources in the implementation of Enterprise Resource. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are highly complex information systems. Many ERP implementations have been classified as failures because they did not believe in the importance of the key success factors of achieving a competitive advantage. This paper has the objective of getting insight into the major Critical Success Factors (CSFs) and limitations of the ERP systems, particularly in the sector of hospitality industry, through the five-star hotels located in Egypt. A self- administered questionnaire was distributed to the directors of information technology in 140 five- star hotels. The survey instrument incorporated three sections; the first depicted demographics of the respondents, the second investigating the most critical success factors; and the third included open questions to explore the ERP limitations. The findings revealed that “Clear understanding of strategic goals” was the lowest perceived factor. While, others such as "Appropriate ERP consultants, avoidance of software changes, confirmation of finalized solutions, extensive employees’ training/education and involvement of project team members” were the highly perceived critical success factors of implementing ERP system in Egyptian hotels. There is no ERP that could cover all the hotel processes. This paper fulfils an identified need to study the most CSFs of implementing ERP system in Egyptian Hotel enterprises for managing the introduction and implementation of an ERP system with acceptable probability of success. Egyptian hotel managers can benefit from a deeper understanding of the issues related to those major CSFs. Application Integration: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems in the Hospitality Industry. A case study in Portugal

Abstract Business and technology evolution, globalisation and competitiveness improvement, are factors leading organizations to adopt last generation technology, therefore creating heterogeneous technical environments in most cases. Thus, the technical issue of Information Systems (IS) integration became more and more complex due to the need to share data and functionalities among several systems. And this is a challenge in what flexibility and adaptability are concerned. This paper has the objective of focus the problem in the context of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems, in particular in the sector of hospitality industry, through a case study developed in Portugal, discussing strategies towards application integration projects.

Examining Ethical Leadership and Its Impacts on the Followers’ Behavioral Outcomes

Recently introduced and conceptualized ethical leadership was examined in one sector of hospitality industry in this study. Scholars believe that by becoming role models in terms of conducting ethical codes of conducts in behaviors and decision making-process, leaders are able to enhance and influence different outcomes in their respective organization. To empirically examining the productive influence of this particular leadership, employee’s behavioral outcomes were investigated. Using 117 data revealed that when leaders are considered to be role models in their respective organizations, their followers tend to be satisfied and committed, in which would result in diminishing their intention to leave the organizations.
