This article assessed the main problems encountered on the BR-010 highway, between Imperatriz and Gov. Edson Lobão cities, Maranhão state. The section was subdivided into ten parts with similar characteristics for flexible pavement conservation evaluation, according road agency technical criteria. The criteria set out in DNIT 005/2003 - TER were applied for pavement investigation and defects evaluation; and, a continuous visual survey for problems types quantification was applied, provided by DNIT 008/2003 - PRO, which resulted in three qualitative indices for the pavement running condition, surface condition and degradation degree. These methods provided a road section overview, which can be extrapolated to other sections given similar maintenance conditions, indicating recovery and conservation planning problems for great importance road in national transport, ensuring economy and comfort to users of the highway.
