HAMLET AND GJORG BERISHA: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CHARACTERS

The art of literature has brought together the experiences of human society and foregrounded various artistic values. The effort to examine the elements of universalization in literature through the perspective of juxtaposition is an innovation of this study. The purpose of this paper is to highlight this type of universalization, recognizing two characters from different literatures, genres, and cultures. The work is based on the main theme, which is revenge, but it also deals with some key elements such as life, death, justice, honor, love, passion, etc., through which the characters are compared as a whole. The study provides a comparative perspective, where systematic juxtaposition assists in identifying shared and distinctive elements throughout the logical flow of the narrative. The compared elements are of different natures and different in contextual and social aspects (events, situations, psychological aspects, space-time, etc.). For the comparison of these elements, a blend of comparative methodology, juxtaposition, as well as methods of variation and inclusion have been employed. The study holds a novel scientific value, as it extensively delves into comparison through juxtaposition, and aims to explore universal literary issues by recognizing two characters, Gjorg Berisha and Hamlet.

NCAPD3 is a prognostic biomarker and is correlated with immune infiltrates in glioma.

Non-SMC Condensin II Complex Subunit D3 (NCAPD3) has been linked with the genesis and progression of multiple human cancers. Nevertheless, the scientific value and molecular process of NCAPD3 in glioma remain unclear. We explored the level of NCAPD3 expression in pan-cancer by multiple online databases. And we focused on the level and prognostic value of NCAPD3 expression in glioma by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and survival analysis. Meanwhile, we verified the relationship between NCAPD3, biological function and immune infiltration in glioma by Linkedomics and SangerBox databases. The expression of NCAPD3 was increased in a variety of cancers, including glioma. Its high expression was strongly related to WHO grade (P=0.002) and programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression of glioma (P=0.001). Patients with a high level of NCAPD3 expression had a lower overall survival (OS) in glioma than patients with a low level of NCAPD3 expression. Multivariate statistical analyses showed NCAPD3 expression (P=0.040), WHO grade (P<0.001), 1p/19q codeletion (P<0.001), recurrence (P<0.001), age (P=0.023), and chemotherapy status (P=0.001) were meaningful independent prognostic factors in patients with glioma. Furthermore, bioinformatics analysis proved that NCAPD3 has been linked to immune infiltration in glioma. High level of NCAPD3 expression may serve as a promising prognostic biomarker and correlate with dendritic cell infiltration, representing a potential immunotherapy target in glioma.

Strengthening Study on Microsphere Particle Peening for Flexspline Surface of Harmonic Reducer

Abstract The service stability of the flexspline directly affects the service life of the harmonic reducer. Its main failure modes are fatigue fracture of the flexspline, damage of the flexible bearing, tooth wear or transmission slip, the above problems are often sprouted and developed from the surface. Researches show the novel surface treatment technology-Microsphere Particle Peening can significantly enhance the surface performance of the flexspline of the harmonic reducer, and thus improve its fatigue resistance. Therefore, studying this novel shot peening technology has significant scientific significance and practical value. In this paper, Microsphere Particle Peening is adopted to strength the flexspline surface and the effects of three different Microsphere Particle Peening conditions on the surface performance of the flexspline is analyzed. The research results indicate that Microsphere Particle Peening technology can introduce larger residual compressive stress, reduce the surface roughness, increase the surface hardness, improve the microstructure morphology, and effectively control the deformation amount of the flexspline by controlling the processing parameters of Microsphere Particle Peening. Therefore, Microsphere Particle Peening technology has broad engineering application prospects in the surface strengthening of precision components.

Dynamic of composite nanobeams resting on an elastic substrate with variable stiffness

This study introduces a novel approach by combining finite simulation and an enhanced shear deformation theory to analyze the dynamic behavior of multi-layer composite nanobeams supported by an elastic foundation. The calculation formulae are derived from nonlocal theory in order to account for the impact of size effect. An intriguing aspect of this research is the presence of intricate curved profiles in the two material layers of the beam. The elastic foundation exhibits varying stiffness throughout the beam's length, accounting for many imperfections in the beam and including the drag parameter of the material. These elements contribute to the steady evolution of the issue model towards more realistic structures. Nevertheless, the computation gets intricate and impedes the precise approach. However, our work has successfully resolved this difficult and significant difficulty using the two-node element. This research demonstrates the temporal evolution of the dynamic reactions of the point with the greatest displacement and velocity, as dictated by the law of change. Simultaneously, it also presents visual representations of every point on the beam as it undergoes temporal variations. These conclusions possess both scientific and practical value, establishing a foundation for real-world implementations.

Geological Sites of the Anergui Region: Description and Place in the Alpine Geological History of the M'goun UNESCO Global Geopark (Morocco)

The M'goun UNESCO Global Geopark is located in the central part of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Numerous studies have highlighted the richness of the geological heritage of this area. Despite these increased efforts in characterization, some areas, such as Anergui, remain underexplored. This mediation work aims to describe the most significant geological landscapes of this region and place them within the broader geological history framework of the UNESCO M'Goun Geopark, thereby enriching the list of geosites within this geopark and promoting geological awareness in the area. This study focused on describing 16 geosites selected based on scientific, educational and geotourism values. These geosites stand out for their geodiversity, showcasing both deep-seated and surface geological phenomena. They provide an excellent framework for understanding the alpine geological history of the M'Goun Geopark. Each site bears witness to one or several key stages of this history, highlighting the extension of the High Atlas basin, the development of carbonate platforms, Jurassic diapirism and magmatism, Late Cretaceous and Tertiary compression, Tertiary and Quaternary uplift, and erosion, resulting in a variety of geological features relating to deformation and alteration.

Effect of Vegetation Growth, Agricultural Irrigation and Climatic Variability on Streamflow in Wujiang, China

Vegetation restoration and farmland irrigation are important environmental factors affecting the water cycle process in basins. Analyzing the impact of vegetation restoration and farmland irrigation on runoff is an international frontier and hot topic in current research, which is crucial for the management and protection of water resources, especially for the ecological protection and high-quality development of basins. Based on the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), effective irrigated area (EIA), and meteorology and hydrology data for Wujiang River (WJR), this research aims to quantitatively calculate the influence degree of vegetation recovery, agricultural irrigation, and climatic variability on discharge alteration in WJR. First, Mann–Kendall and Pettitt approaches were used for recognizing the mutation year of streamflow data at Wulong station from 1982 to 2015. Then, a corrective Budyko model was built by constructing multiple linear regression equations for the NDVI, climate factors, EIA, and Budyko parameters. Finally, the corrective Budyko model was adopted to reveal how vegetation restoration, agri-cultural irrigation, and climate variation influence discharge alteration in WJR. The results showed the following: (1) Both runoff depth (R) and rainfall (Pr) exhibited a non-significant de-clining tendency, while potential evapotranspiration (ET0) demonstrated a non-significant in-creasing tendency. The NDVI and EIA both demonstrated a notable upward tendency (p&lt;0.01). (2) The mutation year of discharge in WJR was 2004. (3) The underlying surface parameters ω have a strong correlation with vegetation, agricultural irrigation, and climate factors. (4) The contribution of rainfall (Pr), potential evapotranspiration (ET0), NDVI, EIA, and human activities to runoff depth in WJR were 57.34%, 24.67%, -11.75%, 11.71%, and 18.02%, respectively. This re-search is helpful for elucidating the effects of ecological construction measures and agricultural irrigation on streamflow in WJR, and offers great scientific significance and practical value for understanding the evolution mechanism of water circulation and for managing regional water resources.

A fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method for assessing the damage degree of cultural relics based on an improved AHP-EWM coupled weight model and a modified ridge function

Due to long-term exposure to outdoor environments, stone artifacts exhibit complex and varying degrees of disease that need to be conserved urgently in order to perpetuate their historical, artistic and scientific values. Owing to the varying degrees of damage inflicted upon cultural relics, discrepancies exist in intervention strategies and conservation materials employed. Hence, it is considerably crucial to conduct a scientific and precise assessment of the preservation status of cultural relics at an early stage for the advancement of cultural relic conservation efforts. In this research, three masonry components of the Hailongtun Fortress site were selected as study objects. A secondary fuzzy comprehensive evaluation system was established through selecting a total of 12 indicators from four aspects, namely, surface change, rock mass structure, physical properties and matrix weathering. The weight of each indicator was determined by using an improved AHP-EWM weight coupling model. The membership degree was calculated by selecting a modified ridge function. The asymmetric nearness method was employed in the final decision-making process so as to correct the error caused by the principle of maximum membership degree. The research shows that the results of the improved evaluation method are in line with the real damage degree of each masonry component, which provides a scientific and quantitative basis for determining the priority of the conservation of masonry components in the Hailongtun Fortress Site. This method is also a reference for carrying out the disease assessment and conservation of other types of cultural relics.

Are Repeat-Dose Toxicity Studies Informative for Safety Assessment of Vaccine Candidates? A Survey of Vaccine Developers.

A BioSafe-sponsored survey investigated how vaccine companies (n = 12) perceive the value of the repeat-dose toxicity studies for safety assessment of vaccine candidates. As all major vaccine developers were part of the survey, it was considered representative for the industry practices up to 2022. Vaccine developers indicated that they see scientific value in performing repeat-dose toxicity studies with vaccines, especially when novel components (e.g., adjuvant) or technology is being used. However, a few (3/12) also indicated that repeat-dose toxicity studies could be replaced by a pharmacology study with additional toxicity parameters. For the majority of companies (9/12), findings from the repeat-dose toxicity studies never prevented or postponed a first-in-human (FIH) trial. In the remaining 3 companies, a total of 4 occurrences of postponement or prevention of clinical development occurred and in only 2 of these cases was the finding considered related to the vaccine. A platform approach has been successfully implemented for influenza vaccines already in 2016, and an outline of the regulatory requirements for a platform approach has been recently documented in the latest infectious disease mRNA-LNP vaccine guideline, as well as in the guidance on the development and licensure of COVID-19 vaccines presented by the FDA. Vaccine developers are seeking to extend this platform approach to the development of new vaccines, building on established technologies and using well-defined manufacturing processes. This approach could support reduction of animal use (a principle of 3Rs) while still providing reassurance of the nonclinical safety of these products.

The Practical Exploration of The Effective Integration Path of Zigong Dinosaur Culture and Kindergarten Curriculum

Zigong dinosaur culture is a valuable natural heritage in China, which contains rich scientific information and educational value, and also carries a profound dinosaur culture. This study explores how to integrate Zigong dinosaur culture into kindergarten curriculum, and puts forward specific implementation strategies. First of all, the article introduces the scientific and historical value of Zigong dinosaur culture, emphasizing its important role in popular science education, tourism development, and cultural exchanges. Then, it elaborates the educational value of Zigong dinosaur culture in kindergarten curriculum, including stimulating children 's interest, enhancing natural science cognition, and promoting interdisciplinary learning and cultural identity. Finally, in the part of implementation strategy, the paper puts forward some suggestions on curriculum planning, teaching activity design, teacher training and home cooperation. The research shows that through reasonable curriculum planning and teaching activity design, Zigong dinosaur culture can be effectively integrated into kindergarten education, so as to improve teaching quality and enhance children 's interest in learning. At the same time, it also provides new ideas for kindergarten curriculum reform.

Indigenous Experiences and Contributions to Western Scientific Knowledge Systems: An Ethnographic Exploration

Knowledge systems are embedded in sets of values, worldviews, and cosmologies that affect the whole process of knowledge production. Employing an ethnographic method that integrates participant observation, interviews, and focus groups, I explore the contributions, ideas, points of view, and metaphors that individuals of Indigenous origins introduce to the scientific method when they enter Western scientific knowledge systems. This ethnographic exploration focuses on a group of students with a variety of Indigenous backgrounds participating in a field course on introduction to Ecology. Native-born students contribute innovations to the knowledge production process by shaping research questions, methodologies, and result interpretations. These innovations stem from diverse worldviews and epistemologies, and while they could significantly impact scientific knowledge production, the students may not fully appreciate their own relevance. This work may serve as a testimony of the processes of reflection and negotiation with the scientific methods, practices, and values that native students undergo when participating in a Western scientific context.

Multiwavelength Raman lidar system for profiling the CCN number concentrations

Cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) play an important role in the research of cloud microphysical and aerosol–cloud interactions. This study employs a multiwavelength Raman lidar for measuring CCN concentration. First, the multiwavelength Raman lidar was used to measure the atmospheric relative humidity profile, and the combination of relative humidity and the aerosol backscattering coefficient was used to retrieve the hygroscopic growth factor. By fitting the hygroscopic growth factor using the κkappa parameter model, the hygroscopic parameter κkappa that characterizes the hygroscopicity of aerosols was obtained. Then, the critical activation radius of aerosols was derived using the κ–Köhler theory and hygroscopicity parameter κkappa. Finally, the CCN number concentration was obtained by combining with the aerosol particle size distribution. Experiments were conducted to verify the feasibility of the multiwavelength Raman lidar. Results showed that the effective detection range of the lidar is approximately 0–4 km. The error of the temperature measured by the lidar at the height of 0.3–3.8 km is approximately ±1K. When the relative humidity change is 0.77–0.87, the range of the hygroscopic growth factor change is 1.06–1.10, the hygroscopic parameter γ is 0.065, and the hygroscopic parameter κkappa is 0.009. The CCN numbers concentration decreases with height but increases closer to the cloud. The multiwavelength Raman lidar is an important tool for detection of cloud microphysical and aerosol–cloud interactions and could have scientific importance and research value, both for improved understanding of the formation of clouds and precipitation and for enhanced accuracy of weather modification.

New Occurrence of Nigrospora oryzae Causing Leaf Blight in Ginkgo biloba in China and Biocontrol Screening of Endophytic Bacteria

Ginkgo biloba is a multifunctional composite tree species that has important ornamental, economic, medicinal, and scientific research value. In October 2023, the foliage of G. biloba on the campus of Nanjing Forestry University exhibited leaf blight. Black-brown necrotic spots were observed on a large number of leaves, with a disease incidence of 86%. After isolating a fungus from symptomatic leaves, pathogenicity was tested to satisfy Koch’s postulates. Using morphological features and multi-gene phylogenetic analyses of an internal transcribed spacer (ITS), elongation factor 1-alpha (EF1-α), and beta-tubulin (β-tub), the isolates YKB1-1 and YKB1-2 were identified as Nigrospora oryzae. N. oryzae was previously reported as an endophyte of G. biloba. However, this study shows it to be pathogenic to G. biloba, causing leaf spots. Two endophytic bacteria were isolated from asymptomatic leaves of diseased G. biloba trees, and their molecular identification was performed using 16S ribosomal DNA (16S rDNA). GBB1-2 was identified as Bacillus altitudinis, while GBB1-5 was identified as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. The screening and verification of endophytic bacteria provide a new strategy for the control of N. oryzae.

Vector modulation of fully-polarized phase conjugate light field through scattering media

Vector modulation of the light field through scattering media holds significant scientific and application value in areas such as optical imaging, optical communications, nonlinear optics, and biomedicine. Digital optical phase conjugation (DOPC), grounded in the time reversal principle, has been extensively investigated for wavefront shaping in scattering media. Nonetheless, reports on vector modulation of phase conjugate beams via DOPC remain scarce. In this study, we propose a vector DOPC to recover and modulate the polarization state of the phase conjugate beams based on vector decomposition and superimposition of light field. First, pre-set two orthogonal polarization basis probe beams to pass through a multimode fiber and use digital holography to record the phase distribution of their orthogonal polarization components in the speckle field. Then, perform polarization-preserving phase conjugation and vector superposition of both components simultaneously. By altering the phase difference and amplitude ratio between the two, vector modulation of the synthesized phase conjugate beam can be achieved. Theoretical analysis aligns well with experimental results, demonstrating a positive impact on understanding the physical properties of scattering media and expanding the applications of the DOPC technique.

Pixel-level Terrain Processing of the Martian Surface from Moderate Resolution Images of Tianwen-1

The moderate-resolution camera (MoRIC) of the Tianwen-1 orbiter, China’s first Mars exploration mission, is a frame-imaging scheme color camera. However, generating a precise digital elevation model (DEM) from these images faces challenges due to the presence of featureless and repetitive regions on the Martian surface. Traditional photogrammetric methods often struggle to achieve pixel-level resolution in these areas. To address this, we employ a shape from shading (SFS) algorithm that leverages shading patterns to reconstruct fine-scale terrain details, optimizing photogrammetric initial DEM. This paper presents a novel global bisection search algorithm, based on the Pearson correlation coefficient to determine the smoothing parameter, a crucial element in the SFS process. Comparisons with higher-resolution data from the Mars Express high-resolution stereo camera and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter CTX images validate our approach, highlighting the potential of SFS to significantly enhance the scientific value of Tianwen-1 MoRIC data by generating high-resolution, three-dimensional maps of Mars.

Damage Inspection and Seismic Assessment of Lingzhao Xuan in the Palace Museum: A Case Study

Lingzhao Xuan, located in the Palace Museum, has significant historical, artistic and scientific values. To investigate the safety status and seismic performance of the Lingzhao Xuan structure, the material composition and performance of the main load-bearing members of the Lingzhao Xuan were examined, and a finite element seismic simulation was performed on the model. The results show that under different seismic intensities, the deformation of the central pavilion is more evident than that of the four metal pavilions in the corner. Under the 8-degree frequent seismic intensities, the tensile stress in the local area of the masonry has exceeded the design tensile strength value of the masonry, posing a risk of structural cracking. Under the 8-degree rare seismic intensity, when the seismic waves are along the direction of the east–west engineering axis, the stress at the column foot of the central pavilion is greater than the tensile strength of the cast iron. When the seismic waves are along the direction of the south–north engineering axis, the stress of the tie beam in the north–south direction of the central pavilion exceeds the tensile strength of the cast iron. The structure has a greater risk of collapse due to excessive deformation.

Database Construction and protection of Inner Mongolian Rock Paintings

Inner Mongolian rock paintings are one of the oldest rock paintings in the world, spreading from Inner Mongolia to surrounding areas, and have had a profound impact on East Asia, Central Asia, West Asia, and Europe. Inner Mongolian rock paintings are characterized by rich content and complete preservation and are the main distribution area of rock paintings in East Asia, with high historical, scientific, and artistic value. Inner Mongolian rock paintings are known for their large quantity, wide distribution, and large scale. Some of the rock paintings depict the production and living conditions of our ancestors during specific periods, as well as their knowledge of nature and society. Therefore, for the better protection of rock painting resources and serve the construction of social and economic development, local government should establish a complete system starting from database construction and establish a scientific and standardized management mechanism.

Landslide Hazard Prediction Based on UAV Remote Sensing and Discrete Element Model Simulation—Case from the Zhuangguoyu Landslide in Northern China

Rainfall-triggered landslides generally pose a high risk due to their sudden initiation, massive impact force, and energy. It is, therefore, necessary to perform accurate and timely hazard prediction for these landslides. Most studies have focused on the hazard assessment and verification of landslides that have occurred, which were essentially back-analyses rather than predictions. To overcome this drawback, a framework aimed at forecasting landslide hazards by combining UAV remote sensing and numerical simulation was proposed in this study. A slow-moving landslide identified by SBAS-InSAR in Tianjin city of northern China was taken as a case study to clarify its application. A UAV with laser scanning techniques was utilized to obtain high-resolution topography data. Then, extreme rainfall with a given return period was determined based on the Gumbel distribution. The Particle Flow Code (PFC), a discrete element model, was also applied to simulate the runout process after slope failure under rainfall and earthquake scenarios. The results showed that the extreme rainfall for three continuous days in the study area was 151.5 mm (P = 5%), 184.6 mm (P = 2%), and 209.3 mm (P = 1%), respectively. Both extreme rainfall and earthquake scenarios could induce slope failure, and the failure probabilities revealed by a seepage–mechanic interaction simulation in Geostudio reached 82.9% (earthquake scenario) and 92.5% (extreme rainfall). The landslide hazard under a given scenario was assessed by kinetic indicators during the PFC simulation. The landslide runout analysis indicated that the landslide had a velocity of max 23.4 m/s under rainfall scenarios, whereas this reached 19.8 m/s under earthquake scenarios. In addition, a comparison regarding particle displacement also showed that the landslide hazard under rainfall scenarios was worse than that under earthquake scenarios. The modeling strategy incorporated spatial and temporal probabilities and runout hazard analyses, even though landslide hazard mapping was not actually achieved. The present framework can predict the areas threatened by landslides under specific scenarios, and holds substantial scientific reference value for effective landslide prevention and control strategies.

The influence of virtual technologies on motivation and engagement: a comparative analysis of male and female students

ABSTRACT Virtual technologies can have a positive impact on the educational process, and their integration into teaching has become increasingly popular over the years. The primary aim of this article is to analyze whether the use of virtual reality affects the growth of motivation and engagement among students and to identify significant differences between the results of male and female students. The study involved 200 s-year students from one of the Chinese universities, who utilized three VR platforms for studying English, mathematics, and history: VirtualSpeech, Prisms VR, and DW Shift. The instruments employed were the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) and the Academic Engagement Scale (AES). Statistical analysis revealed significant changes for all indicators (p < 0.000). Additionally, no gender differences were found in the effectiveness of virtual technologies. The SWOT analysis highlighted both the strengths and potential threats associated with the use of VR in education. The article confirms the potential of virtual reality to enhance student motivation and engagement and sheds light on gender differences in its effectiveness, which holds high scientific and practical value for educational practitioners and the scientific community alike.

The curious case of the Dana platypus and what it can teach us about how lead shotgun pellets behave in fluid preserved museum specimens and may limit their scientific value.

Fluid preserved animal specimens in the collections of natural history museums constitute an invaluable archive of past and present animal diversity. Well-preserved specimens have a shelf-life spanning centuries and are widely used for e.g. anatomical, taxonomical and genetic studies. The way specimens were collected depended on the type of animal and the historical setting. As many small mammals and birds were historically collected by shooting, large quantities of heavy metal residues, primarily lead, may have been introduced into the sample in the form of lead shot pellets. Over time, these pellets may react with tissue fluids and/or the fixation and preservation agents and corrode into lead salts. As these chemicals are toxic, they could constitute a health issue to collection staff. Additionally, heavy element chemicals interfere with several imaging technologies increasingly used for non-invasive studies, and may confound anatomical and pathological investigations on affected specimens. Here we present a case-study based on platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) and other small mammals containing lead pellets from the collection of The Natural History Museum of Denmark.
