The Management of Facilities and Infrastructure in the Development of Islamic Boarding Schools in Jambi Province

This research is motivated by the condition of Islamic boarding schools in Jambi province in terms of infrastructure management. The research objective is to determine the infrastructure management system in developing Islamic boarding schools in Jambi Province.The research method uses a qualitative approach. The sample in this study; Nurul Jalal Islamic boarding school, Tebo Regency City, Zulhijjah Islamic boarding school, Batang Hari Regency, Nurul Iman Islamic boarding school, Jambi City and as a research informant for Islamic boarding school leaders, madrasa leaders and staff who handle infrastructure management. Data collection technique using snowball sampling. Sampling technique using the method : interviews, documentation, observation. To test the validity of the data by using data triangulationThe research results are as follows; first, management of facilities and infrastructure in the development of Islamic boarding schools in Jambi Province, the Islamic boarding schools as samples in this research are as follows; carry out planning, carry out implementation and organization, then carry out the process of procurement and inventory of facilities and infrastructure as well as the final stage of monitoring and evaluating the condition of infrastructure in an effort to develop Islamic boarding schools. All activities are oriented towards achieving goals, clarity and responsibility, administration, efficiency and consistency in the use of facilities and infrastructure. Second, the inhibiting factors in the process of managing facilities and infrastructure to develop Islamic boarding schools in Jambi province include; human resources, educational funds as well as the location and geography of Islamic boarding schools, while the supporting factors in managing facilities and infrastructure in developing Islamic boarding schools in Jambi Province come from the culture of Islamic boarding schools and the principles possessed by Kiai as leaders of Islamic boarding schools. Third, the efforts made by Islamic boarding schools in managing facilities and infrastructure in developing Islamic boarding schools in Jambi Province include; maximizing the allocation of the use of education financing funds for facilities and infrastructure, increasing human resources through training, collaborating with other institutions, collaborating with the private sector, collaborating with the government and the community. Fourth, a suitable management model for facilities and infrastructure in developing Islamic boarding schools in Jambi Province, the results of findings in the field show a model that is more suitable for developing Islamic boarding schools. The facilities and infrastructure management model is carried out using a strategic management model and at the beginning of activities uses the active management concept. This activity is influenced by the type and style of Islamic boarding school leadership. Apart from that, Islamic boarding school leaders view facilities and infrastructure as resources in the form of sources of strength in achieving a goal and as resources related to humans, finances and materials.

Implementing Improved Learning Strategies on Achieving Metacognition Skills of Students in Junior High School

This research aims to examine the achievement of metacognition skills of students who obtain improved learning strategies with scientific learning compared to students who obtained conventional learning (Scientific). This research is a mixed method with concurrent embedded method. It consists of an experimental class that obtained improved learning strategies and a control class that obtained conventional learning (Scientific). The population of this research were students from one of the State Junior High Schools in Jambi with the characteristics of the average achievement of the National Final Examination score of 3.38 and the school accreditation was A. The sample of this research was students from class VIII of two classes. The results showed students who obtain Improve learning strategies have a tendency to perform metacognition skills with indicators of planning, monitoring, and evaluation more than students who obtain conventional learning (Scientific). The Creativity of Islamic Religious Education Teachers in Improving Student Learning Atmosphere at Junior High School in Jambi

This study aims to determine the creativity of Islamic religion teachers to improve students' learning atmosphere in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research uses a qualitative approach using a snowball sampling technique. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The results of this study indicate that the innovations made in improving cognitive, affective, and psychomotor abilities include teachers applying the quiz game of throwing paper balls to create a fun atmosphere. Teachers also take a scientific approach, provide motivation, are good student role models, and hold routine religious activities. Factors that support teacher innovation are internal factors of teacher awareness and external factors of teacher educational background and school contributions. Although limited facilities hinder innovation, the school plans the budget gradually to procure the required facilities through the operational assistance fund.

DESIGNING ENGLISH WORKSHEET FOR THE STUDENTS OF ISLAMIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN JAMBI

This article aims at elaborating the process of designing a worksheet to teach English specifically speaking and writing skills for the students of an Islamic Junior High School in Jambi. This was a research and development inquiry in which the researchers applied Dick and Carey’s model (in Gall and Borg, 2003). List of questions for interview, questionnaires, observation checklist, and documentation were used as instruments to obtain the data. Based on the need analysis, it was found that the English materials expected by the eighth grade students were: (a) picture-based material which were colorful and attractive, (b) simple English texts with understandable questions, (c) well-understood instruction, and (d) using familiar words. The final design of the material consisted of three chapters with different themes.

EXPLORING LEARNER AUTONOMY IN THE CLASSROOM: AN INVESTIGATION AT THREE SELECTED JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS IN JAMBI

This research investigated learner autonomy based on English teachers’ perceptions at three selected junior high schools in Jambi. Its aims were to describe how the teachers perceive learner autonomy and to what extent they promote learner autonomy in the classroom. This research used quantitative approach. The data were gathered through questionnaires involving 4 English teachers of SMPN 17 Jambi, 2 English teachers of SMPN 1 Muaro Jambi, and 4 English teachers of SMP IT AL AZHAR. Participants were asked to answer the questions on the questionnaires which consist of 34 items in total. The type of the questions was close-ended questions. After doing the research the data were analyzed by calculating teachers’ responses to find means score and frequency after that interpreting the results of the questionnaires. The results of this study showed that the teachers perceived learner autonomy is quite high with the overall mean score was 3.88. Learner autonomy were highly and very highly promoted in the classroom through the teachers’ role as facilitator, counsellor, resource, and manager.

Fine and nano particles in the school environments and the respiratory deposition doses to schoolchildren in a Middle City of Jambi, Indonesia

Five public high schools in Jambi, Indonesia, located on the roadside, were chosen as sampling sites, i.e., at the school gate (SG) and schoolyard (SY), to assess the respiratory deposition doses (RDDs) to schoolchildren during the COVID-19 pandemic (December 2021 to February 2022). The fine- and nano-particles information was proven to be critical and limited during the pandemic, but school activities have resumed as usual, even though they only occur for ~4 hours per day at that time. The results show average PM concentrations at the school gate (SG) were higher than those at the schoolyard (SY) regardless of the site location, which was attributed to a difference in influences from road traffic that may be due to the distance from the road. Each PM2.5 concentration, particularly at SY during the school day, exceeded the World Health Organization’s PM2.5 daily standard (15 μg m-3), resulting in higher RDDs compared to other particle sizes, particularly for headways. The deposition of PM2.5 and PM0.1 needs more attention since RDDs have higher values and can infiltrate the alveoli more deeply. Overall, these findings will help to improve health surveillance and guide future efforts in Indonesia to develop air pollution mitigation strategies, particularly for children during the school day.

TEACHER’S PERCEPTION OF USING ENGLISH TEXTBOOK IN TEACHING ENGLISH FOR MADRASAH IBTIDAIYAH MUNAWWAROH JAMBI

This study aimed to investigate teachers’ perceptions toward the use of English textbooks in teaching English and identify the teachers' obstacles to using the textbook. The participants of the study were two English teachers at an Islamic elementary school in Jambi. The study used a descriptive-qualitative approach and data collected through an interview. The results indicated that teachers had a positive attitude toward the textbook. Teachers employed textbook adaptation strategies by modifying tasks and adding and removing materials when using the textbook. Teachers encountered two major challenges: the level of difficulty of the material and limited instructional tools. The study's findings are likely to enhance teachers' knowledge of appropriate textbook criteria and to create meaningful and communicative purposes for future textbooks.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE UNIFIED THEORY OF ACCEPTANCE AND USE OF TECHNOLOGY (UTAUT) MODEL ON THE APPLICATION OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

This paper examines the effect of applying Information and Communication Technology (TIK) in the learning process through the UTAUT model. There are four components seen from the UTAUT model, namely Performance Improvement Expectations, Business Improvement Expectations, Social Influence, and Supporting Conditions. The population used in the research were teachers at three schools in Jambi, namely SDN 47/IV, SDN 66/IV, and SDIT Al Azhar. The sample in the research involved 130 teachers in the three schools. The research is quantitative research. Research data were obtained through survey methods and questionnaires. The data analysis used in the research is PLS-SEM. The results indicate that the four components of the UTAUT model had a significant influence on the use of Information and Communication Technology (TIK) applied by teachers in the learning process. The most influential component of UTAUT through Information and Communication Technology applied by teachers is the Supporting Conditions. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model has an influence on the use of Information and Communication Technology (TIK) applied by elementary school teachers in the learning process.

Penerapan Model Project Based Learning untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berpikir Kreatif Siswa di Sekolah Dasar

This research is a Classroom Action Research that aims to improve the creative thinking skills of elementary school students by applying the Project Based Learning learning model. This model is used for the fourth-grade mathematics subject in one of The City Elementary Schools in Jambi through two cycles. The research subjects were 2 teachers and 2 classes totaling 40 students. After the implementation of learning using the Project Based Learning Model in elementary schools, there is an increase in students' creative thinking skills, especially in the fourth-grade elementary school mathematics subjects. The increase can be seen based on the results of the observation of students' creative thinking abilities in the first cycle which increased 15% from the pre-cycle to 65% and in the second cycle the percentage of observations of students' creative thinking abilities increased by 15% from the first cycle to 80%. Likewise, the percentage of student test results in the first cycle 75% increased by 22.5% from the pre-cycle which was only 52.5%. Furthermore, in the second cycle, it increased by 10% to 85%. This percentage shows that there is an increase in students' creative thinking skills in elementary schools by applying the Project Based Learning model. So it can be concluded that the Project Based Learning model can improve the creative thinking skills of fourth-grade elementary school students.

Speech Function in Teaching Speaking Skill: Evaluation, Analysis, and Recommendation

This study aims to assess and analyse the sorts of speech functions used by teachers in the tenth grade at one vocational high school in Jambi, Indonesia, and to identify the most prevalent kind. The study was carried out using descriptive qualitative research and descriptive analysis design. In this study, data were triangulated through observation and documentation. The study's targets were English teachers, and the transcribed data was divided into three categories of language functions. Holmes' concept is applied to classify speech functions. There are three types of utterance functions: expressive, imperative, and referential. The results showed that out of 60 speech functions, the directive function was applied by instructors the most frequently, accounting for 31 of them (51.66%). Directive one is the main reason, as it delivers interaction by directing and requesting the student. The study recommends that there are still many types of speech functions, but alternatively, directives are more prominent. Other researchers can gather data from many sources, including Instagram's English-language account, an English newspaper or magazine, and many more. The current study encourages English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers to complete a task and determine an assignment for future research. Given the implications of directive functions for English teachers in teaching speaking skills and the ability to inquire about something and command and request learners to perform something.

Development of Learning Videos to Support Middle School Students’ Numerical Literacy Skills

In general, students' numeracy literacy skills are still low. Therefore, teachers need to provide a stimulus for students in learning by using interesting media and unique and distinctive ways of exposure. One of the media that can be used by teachers is a mathematics learning video. This study aims to produce and determine the feasibility (validity, practicality, and effectiveness) of instructional video media that supports numeracy literacy skills for eighth grade students of a junior high school in Jambi, Indonesia. This study uses the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) model. Based on the results of the research, the material validation analysis obtained a percentage of 74.6% (quite valid) and the media validation analysis obtained a percentage of 83% (quite valid). The practical aspect seen from the results of the teacher assessment questionnaire analysis obtained a percentage of 93.4% and the one-on-one evaluation questionnaire analysis (9 students of class VIII) obtained a percentage of 90% (very practical). The effectiveness is seen based on the results of the numeracy literacy test, where the percentage of students' completeness is 90% and the results of the questionnaire analysis of student responses to small group evaluations are 94% (very effective). Based on the data, the learning animation video has met the indicators (valid, practical, effective). Based on the results of this study, teachers should consider using learning videos that can support students' numeracy literacy skills in classroom learning. Furthermore, researchers will further study the effectiveness of using instructional videos in quasi-experimental research.

Teachers’ Constraints in Organizing Learning Process for High School Students in Jambi

The purpose of this study is to describe the constraints faced by high school teachers in Jambi in the students learning process. Those constrains are ranging from planning, implementing, to evaluating learning outcomes. The study was conducted in public high school in Jambi for 8 months. Subjects in this study are subject teachers, principals, supervisors, and supervisors. While the object of this research includes teacher learning documents and infrastructure facilities. This research uses qualitative approach and based on field study. It belongs to phenomenological research and includes descriptive research type. The data were collected using questionnaires, interview guides, observation guides, documentation, and portfolios. The result of the research reveals that public high school teachers in Jambi are experiencing difficulties in planning process of learning. Some hindrances found in the process of implementing student learning in the classroom are the large number of students in each class and the lack of supporting facilities and infrastructure. Whereas the hindrance in the process of evaluating student learning outcomes came from ineffective design qualities.

IMPLEMENTASI PENYUSUNAN LAPORAN KEUANGAN PONDOK PESANTREN DI KOTA JAMBI

Islamic boarding schools are non-profit entities and have a very important role in the preparation of financial statements, until now Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia still use simple financial statements. Therefore, BI cooperates with IAI to issue Islamic boarding school accounting guidelines (PAP) and PSAK 45. The method used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive approach. This study aims to determine and analyze the recording of financial statements in Islamic boarding schools in Jambi in accordance with Islamic boarding school accounting guidelines and PSAK 45. In the results of the study, the components of Islamic boarding schools accounting guidelines consist of statements of financial position, reports on changes in net assets, cash flow statements, notes on financial statements. whereas in PSAK 45, statements of financial position, activity reports, cash flow statements, and notes to financial statements, until now Islamic boarding schools only use simple financial reports because they do not understand well about Islamic boarding school accounting guidelines, due to lack of knowledge and information about accounting guidelines pesantren and PSAK 45.

Critical thinking assessment in the teaching of writing Indonesian scientific texts in high school

The assessment of critical thinking in the teaching of Bahasa Indonesia is an essential part of teaching syntax because most Bahasa Indonesia teachers of high schools in Jambi still use objective test assessments or low-order thinking skills (LOTS). In fact, there are still many Bahasa Indonesia teachers of high schools in Jambi who have not implemented HOTS-based assessment, so the teaching process and learning outcomes of writing HOTS-based scientific texts are still low. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to study the critical thinking assessments in writing Indonesian scientific texts in high school to find authentic and contextual assessment designs to achieve learning objectives. The research method used is a mixed method of the concurrent embedded design. The qualitative data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, while the quantitative data were collected by using an essay test. The results of the study indicate that Indonesian language teachers have designed critical thinking assessments in writing scientific texts by conducting basic competency (BC) analysis, analyzing competency achievement indicators (CAI) by considering action verbs (AV), making stimuli, making question grids, constructing question criteria, and scoring by considering critical thinking aspects, including (1) focus, (2) supporting reasons, (3) organization, (4) conventions, and (5) integration. Student learning outcomes in writing scientific texts show good critical thinking competence in accordance with learning objectives.

Teachers’ Strategies in Teaching Reading Comprehension through E-learning Platform during the Pandemic

This study was aimed to explore EFL teachers' strategies in teaching reading comprehension through an e-learning platform at one public senior high school in Jambi. This study employed a qualitative research design which was a case study. The study utilized two data collection techniques: observation and interview. Two teachers of English were involved in this study. All of the data were analyzed using four significant stages of analysis: coding, data reduction, data display and concluding. The frequency of observations was grounded on reading teaching material taught by participants. This study revealed that the teachers used three strategies to teach reading comprehension through virtual e-learning. The strategies were translating, SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) and QARs (Question-Answer Relationships). The findings also revealed teachers' reasons for selecting those strategies. Generally, their reasons were (1) to help the students to comprehend the text and (2) to relate students' real-life experience and prior knowledge with the text. The time limitation of lesson hours caused by COVID 19 also affected teachers' decisions in selecting the strategies.

The Innovative Learning of Square and Rectangle using Macanan Traditional Indonesian Game

Geometry is one of the essential mathematics materials, such as square and rectangle. However, most elementary school students experience difficulty in understanding it due to the abstractness of the geometric material. Furthermore, teachers teaching in the remote areas of Indonesia still encounter problems exploring this abstract material to make students understand caused by the limited learning resources. On the other hand, students in remote areas are familiar with traditional games, such as Macanan. Hence, the objective of this study is to design learning activities utilizing Macanan game in assisting students understand the concept of the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles for fourth-grade students. A design research approach was implemented and performed at one of the elementary schools in Jambi, Indonesia. The research results presented that Macanan could be a context for a starting point in this learning design of both square and rectangular learning. Employing this context, it would be fun, enjoyable, and easy to understand the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles for students. This game could be a context for teachers in remote areas in teaching geometry and be a reference for identifying other contexts which can make mathematics learning easy in remote areas.

The Development Lectora Inspire Based Learning Media for High School Students in Learning History

This research aimed to develop Lectora Inspire App for history learning in high schools. Purposely, the stages of the development in using the ADDIE model which include the steps of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Interview and questionnaires were administered in order to collect data. The interview data were analyzed qualitatively while the questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively. There were 35 respondents from one of the high schools in Jambi who were grouped into three groups, namely 3 students for a small individual group, 10 students for a small group, and 22 students for a large group. The results of this development research revealed that Lectora Inspire App based on history learning was valid based on the assessment of material experts and media experts. Moreover, based on the results of small group trials, limited group trials, and large group trials,it showed that Lectora Inspire App were effective as history learning media. Recommendations are also discussed for future research and practices.

MOTIVATION ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS SELECTING AL-KINANAH JAMBI ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL AS AN ARABIC LEARNING INSTITUTION

Abstract: This thesis discusses the Analysis of Students' Motivation for Choosing Pesantren Al-Kinanah Jambi as an Arabic Language Learning Institution. With the problem of how students can be motivated to choose Al-Kinanah Jambi Islamic boarding school as an Arabic language learning institution, what are the factors that encourage students to choose Jambi's Al-Kinanah Islamic Boarding School as an Arabic language learning institution. This type of research is qualitative research, namely data obtained in the form of opinions, views or other expressions of thought obtained through interviews. While the method used is observation (observation), interviews, and documentation. While the sources of data in this study were obtained from the leadership of the Al-Kinanah Islamic Boarding School Jambi, TU staff and students. He made it as the object of the informant because the researcher said that they are competent to provide information or data that is closely related to the problem under study. Data was collected using observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis used is qualitative data analysis. Based on the results of this study, it shows that there are two factors that motivate students to choose Pesantren Al-Kinanah Jambi as an Arabic language learning institution (1) internal factors, namely factors that come from within the student without any coercion from others. From the results of interviews conducted by researchers with students at the Al-Kinanah Islamic Boarding School in Jambi, almost some of the students said that they chose to enter the pesantren of their own volition and not coercion from others. They think that by going to boarding school this will make them a better person, and they think that this Islamic boarding school has good religious knowledge and fun learning because they not only study religion but they can also learn general lessons such as science lessons, social studies and so on. (2) external factors, namely factors that come not from themselves but from input and encouragement from parents. From the results of interviews conducted by researchers to Al-Kinanah Jambi Islamic boarding school students, most of the students chose to enter the pesantren because of encouragement from their parents. With the aim of parents so that they can become children with noble character and there are those who supervise the activities they do during the Islamic boarding school. From the results of research conducted on April 15, 2021, the authors conclude that the motivation of students to choose the Al-Kinanah Jambi Islamic boarding school consists of two factors, namely internal factors and external factors. Internal factors are factors that come from within the students who wish to continue their education at the Al-Kinanah Jambi Islamic boarding school, with the aim of improving themselves and learning foreign languages ​​in the pesantren, namely English and Arabic. While external factors are factors that come from the encouragement and input of the family with the aim that their children can get good religious and moral education in the Al-Kinana Jambi Islamic boarding school.

The Independent Learning (Nature-Based Learning): Outdoor Study Arabic Learning Nature School Jambi City

This study describes nature-based learning as an offer of new learning outside the classroom for Arabic learning at the Jambi City Natural School to implement independent learning in Indonesia. Field research used a qualitative approach rooted in natural settings as data integrity. Well, interviews, observations, and documentation as a comprehensive data collection technique. The findings of the research, which located at the al-Fath natural school in Jambi, show that nature-based fig language learning is carried out by (1) an integrative curriculum of three curricula: Nature, Integrated Islam, and the National Education by applying the spirit of independent learning and make nature. 2) outdoor class based on contextual approach with the application of the saung mode backpacker and live-in. Program career days and Quran week used active learning methods Implemented in Arabic learning. 3). Supporting factors: open learning places and teachers applying various variations of teaching methods. Furthermore, the inhibiting factors: the use of big themes, combining Arabic language material with other materials, teacher competence, and parental cooperation. Arabic based on an integrative curriculum is a new paradigm in outdoor class-based Arabic learning, which is currently primarily taught in class as a unit of mainstream language learning theory.
