Altruistic leadership: A quantitative analysis of its effects on school culture, teacher integrity, and performance in Muhammadiyah middle schools in Indonesia

This study aims to explore how philanthropic leadership affects the performance of top Muhammadiyah Middle Schools in Central Java. It also examines how altruistic leadership influences teacher integrity, school culture, teacher discipline, and overall school performance. Additionally, the study investigates the impact of teacher integrity, school culture, and teacher discipline on school performance. The research follows a quantitative approach, using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) for data analysis. Data were collected from teachers and staff at 288 Muhammadiyah Middle Schools in 35 districts/cities in Central Java, using a multistage random sampling technique. The study focused on variables such as altruistic leadership, school culture, teacher integrity, teacher discipline, and school performance, with information gathered through questionnaires. The findings show that altruistic leadership has a significant positive effect on school performance and, along with teacher integrity and school culture, improves school outcomes. However, altruistic leadership does not have a strong effect on teacher discipline.

Using Canva to improve drawing for elementary school

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using Canva as a digital drawing tool in improving drawing skills and engagement of elementary school students. Through quantitative design and descriptive analysis of data collected from 48 teachers in various public elementary schools in Central Java, the study found that the use of Canva had a significant positive impact on students' understanding of design concepts, creativity, and engagement. A total of 45.8% of respondents strongly agreed and 50% agreed that Canva helps students understand basic design concepts better. In addition, 56.3% of respondents agreed and 37.5% strongly agreed that students' creativity improved after using Canva, indicating that the platform provides ample space for students to experiment with different drawing techniques. In terms of engagement, 47.9% of respondents strongly agreed and 39.6% agreed that using Canva increased student engagement in art projects compared to traditional methods. In addition, 60.4% of respondents agreed and 35.4% strongly agreed that Canva allows for more effective collaboration between students on drawing projects. However, while the benefits are significant, most respondents feel that additional training is needed to optimize the use of Canva in art teaching. These findings show that integrating Canva into the drawing curriculum not only improves students' artistic skills, but also prepares them for success in the digital world of the future.

Profile of Students’ Scientific Literacy Competence and Attitudes toward Online Learning Using Microsoft Teams

One of the important elements of education that must be developed is scientific literacy. Regarding the impact of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 during the current pandemic, namely with changes in system digitization, demanding learning systems integrated through the internet network. Online learning has become a demand in education in the last few years. This study aimed to analyze the Scientific Literacy profile of high school students in terms of competence and attitudes towards science in online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is a mixed quantitative and qualitative research. The research subjects were 105 respondents taken by purposive sampling from senior high schools in Central Java, Indonesia. Data was collected using tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The results showed that the Scientific Literacy profile regarding competence and attitudes towards science was moderate. Important factors must be considered in online learning: educators’ ability in online settings, interactions between students, teachers, and content, and the intentional relationship between online and offline activities in school activities and practice in the field.

Students’ Perceptions Towards the Use of Google Classroom in Learning English

The research was aimed: 1) to analyze all activities which were carried out in learning English that used Google Classroom in Students of class VIII at a private school in Central Java in 2021/2022 Academic Years; 2) to analyze students’ perception in teaching learning English towards Google Classroom in Students of class VIII at a private school in Central Java in 2021/2022 Academic Years. Method that used in this research was descriptive qualitative method. The sample of the research were 35 students of Eighth Grade. For collecting data technique, the researcher used interview with English teacher and distributed questionnaire to the students via Google form. Then, the researcher used triangulation to validity the data. For analyzed the data, the researcher used some steps: collecting data, reducting data, displaying data, and verficating data. The result of this research showed that there were some activities which were carried out using Google Classroom namely: explaining the learning material by the teacher, giving the assignment by the teacher, discussing about the material and assignment to the teacher, doing the assignment and sending the result of the assignment by the students. The students perception towards the use Google Classroom was varied namely: students can learn anytime and anywhere, Google Classroom helps students to develop their ability in reading and writing English skill and students can accept learning material easily to understand. Promoting Speaking Skills Through English Storytelling in Madrasah Diniyah: An Islamic Non-Formal School in Indonesia

Since English is used frequently in everyday life, exposure to it is essential in non-formal education. Using storytelling techniques and incorporating English as local content can help create a new learning environment and combat boredom that stems from formal school fatigue. This study investigated how English storytelling can enhance speaking ability and foster a positive attitude toward learning English among non-formal school students. The research involved 52 students at Madrasah Diniyah, an Islamic non-formal school in Central Java utilizing test, questionnaire, and parent interviews. The research findings showed that the English Storytelling Technique can increase students' motivation to learn in non-formal schools and also improve their speaking ability. This is evidenced by the significant improvement in students' speaking ability, increasing from the initial level of 55% to 87% at the final level. The student's parents believe that because the Islamic non-formal school offers English language instruction, their children are more encouraged to learn the language. Therefore, the study suggests that the exposure of English learning should be given more and intensively to non-formal school in the future learning.

Analysis of the Effect of Islamic Character Education, Multicultural Learning, and Extracurricular Activities on the Character Building of Pesantren Students in Central Java

This study explores the influence of Islamic character education, multicultural learning, and extracurricular activities on the character building of students in Islamic boarding schools in Central Java. A quantitative research design was employed, utilizing a survey method to collect data from 150 students. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results indicated that Islamic character education, multicultural learning, and extracurricular activities all had significant positive impacts on character building, with path coefficients of, respectively. The model explained 52% of the variance in character building. These findings underscore the importance of integrating religious teachings, multicultural perspectives, and extracurricular engagement in educational curricula to foster the holistic development of students. The study offers valuable insights for educators and policymakers in enhancing character education programs within Islamic boarding schools.

Profil Penjelasan Ilmiah Siswa SMA pada Materi Sistem Peredaran Darah Manusia

This study aims to determine the profile of scientific explanation ability of high school students, especially on the material of the human circulatory system. The type of research used is quantitative research with survey methods shared through google forms. The subjects of the study were high school students who had received human circulation system material in one of several schools in Central Java, the research sample was selected through random sampling techniques from the population. The research instrument used was adapted from McNeill, Lizotte, Krajcik, and Marx (2016) which consisted of 9 long answer questions to be able to determine the success of aspects of claim, evidence, and reasoning in scientific explanation. The instrument has been declared valid and reliable through Rasch Model testing. The research data is in the form of scores from student answers which are then processed through the Rasch Model to determine the level of difficulty and wright map person (students) to find out the profile of each student's scientific explanation ability. The results showed that 78% of students were still at the lower middle level in compiling the three aspects of scientific explanation, and only 12% of students were able to achieve maximum scores in the preparation of claims, evidence, and reasoning.

The Position of English in the Linguistic Schoolscapes in an Indonesian Islamic Boarding School

The choice of use of languages ​​in schools, including in the linguistic schoolscapes, represents the contestation of language identities, ideologies, and power. This study looks at the position of English, as opposed to Indonesian, Arabic, and Javanese, in the linguistic schoolscapes in an Indonesian Islamic boarding school in Central Java. A descriptive qualitative method and the theoretical framework of language planning and policy (Spolsky, 2004) are used to analyze the data. The findings show that Javanese and Indonesian are used in daily communication. English and Arabic are taught in the language program. In the signs at the boarding school, English is the second language to be used frequently at the linguistic school cape, after Indonesian, while Javanese, as the students' everyday language, is far behind. The implication of the linguistic school landscape finding in this research is that foreign languages ​​such as English, Arabic, and others considered necessary have the potential to become a new development in language teaching and learning.

Correlation between Parental Involvement and Student Discipline on the Quality of Education in High Schools in Central Java

This quantitative study investigates the influence of parental involvement and student discipline on the quality of education in high schools in Central Java. A sample of 110 participants, including students, parents, and teachers, provided responses on measures of parental involvement, student discipline, and perceptions of educational quality. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were employed to analyze the data. The results reveal significant positive correlations between parental involvement, student discipline, and educational quality. Moreover, both parental involvement and student discipline significantly predict perceptions of educational quality, highlighting their critical roles in shaping the overall educational experience. These findings underscore the importance of fostering collaborative partnerships between parents and schools, as well as implementing effective discipline practices, to enhance educational quality in high schools in Central Java.

Teachers' Belief in Ethnomathematics-Based Numeracy Learning Scale: A Rasch Model Analysis

Teachers’ beliefs are a teacher's subjective perspective about teaching practices in the classroom, which influence the actions and decisions that will be taken in facilitating student learning activities. A scale can serve as an effective tool for assessing teachers' beliefs in ethnomathematics-based numeracy learning. This study aims to evaluate teachers' belief in ethnomathematics-based numeracy learning scale. The data analysis will employ the Rasch model and involve 75 mathematics teachers from junior high schools in Central Java. The teachers' belief in an ethnomathematics-based numeracy learning scale was initially subjected to content validation by three experts. The cumulative percentage outcomes are according to the four dimensions, namely teachers' beliefs about numeracy, teachers' beliefs about the role of ethnomathematics in numeracy learning, teachers' beliefs about ethnomathematics-based numeracy teaching, and teachers' beliefs about ethnomathematics-based numeracy learning, amount to 90.28% for a total of 20 items. Following this, the researchers utilized the Rasch model analysis to investigate teachers' belief in an ethnomathematics-based numeracy learning scale. The analysis involved the use of ten measurement features. Based on the results, it was deemed imperative to remove 30 individuals to maintain adherence to the predetermined criteria. Subsequently, the data obtained from the remaining 45 participants was analyzed using the Rasch model. The study of 20 teachers’ belief items yielded three items, necessitating the exclusion of the privacy construct. The results indicate that the 17 questions possess robustness, validity, and reliability, rendering them suitable for assessing teachers' beliefs in ethnomathematics-based numeracy learning.

The Effectiveness of Using Sondet Smart Augmented Reality Based Application to Improve Sound Understanding for Hearing Impairment Special School Students in Central Java

Hearing impairment children are individuals who have lost the ability to hear, thereby hampering the process of information through their hearing, whether they use hearing aids or not. This research will test the effectiveness of using the Sondet Smart Augmented Reality based application in improving sound understanding for hearing impairment children. This research uses a quantitative approach with experimental techniques to test the use of the Sondet Smart Augmented Reality based application. The research subjects involved 124 hearing impairment students attending special schools in Central Java, then these students were divided into two groups, control and experimental groups. The research results were calculated using SPSS with the Chi Square test resulting in a asymp-sig calculation of 0.010 using alpha of 0.05, so asymp-sig. < 0.05. Therefore, the use of the sondet application to improve the sound understanding of hearing impairment students in Central Java has proven to be effective in increasing students' sound understanding.

Numeracy Literacy Ability Viewed by Characteristics of Students' Way of Thinking

Thinking is a cognitive activity that produces different ways of solving problems which affects numeracy literacy ability. The numeracy literacy consists of two domains, namely change and relationship and quantity. This study aimed to describe students’ numeracy literacy ability viewed by characteristics of students’ way of thinking. This study was a qualitative research with a phenomenological design. The participants were eight 9th grade students from a junior high school in Central Java, Indonesia, who had different characteristics, that are concrete sequential (CS), concrete random (CR), abstract sequential (AS), and abstract random (AR). The data were collected by using written tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The results show that each characteristic had its own way of solving the numeracy literacy problems. In quantity domain, CS, CR, and AR students tend to answer the problem with one solution; however, AS students responded with various alternative answers. In change and relationship domain, a difference was observed between concrete thinkers and abstract thinkers. CS and CR students tend to solve problems by using an example to take a trial-and-error approach. Meanwhile, AS and AR students tend to work using existing concepts by manipulating the formulas in the question with logical and rational processes. Exploring Suicidal Ideation Among High School Students in Central Java: A Comprehensive Analysis

There has been an increase in suicides in Indonesia in recent years. Suicide is the leading cause of death in the 15-29 age group. Suicide attempts begin with suicidal ideation. Suicidal ideation arises because the pain or suffering experienced by individuals occurs continuously. This study aims to analyze suicidal ideation that arises due to hopelessness and the desire to be free from pain in adolescents. Data were collected using a questionnaire adapted from the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS). The study was conducted on 1154 students at one of the high schools in Central Java. The results showed that 12% of students had the idea to make a suicide attempt. Further results showed that 86% of respondents did not have a specific plan to commit suicide, 58% of respondents thought about suicide less than once a week, 41% of respondents were able to control suicidal ideation easily, 40% of respondents thought family, religion, and the pain of death could stop suicidal thoughts, and 35% of respondents made suicidal ideation as an attempt to end pain. This shows that suicidal ideation in adolescents is a problem that needs attention from various parties, one of which is the Guidance and Counseling teacher.

Supporting and Inhibiting Factors of Outdoor STEAM Learning in Early Childhood Education

Research shows that it’s important for kids to get out and play. By combining outdoor learning and STEAM, it will provide a new perspective on the lesson theme and can connect school content with the real-world problems. However, some things support and hinder outdoor STEAM learning in early childhood education. This study aims to determine the supporting and inhibiting factors of STEAM outdoor learning in early childhood education. The subjects of this research were 34 early childhood education schools in Central Java. This research data is qualitative, collected through observation, documentation, and interviews techniques. The observation technique was used to make direct observations in the field and documented them in the form of videos and photos. Research data management was carried out using the QSR NVivo software. The data analysis technique used was the qualitative data analysis technique from Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Testing the validity of the data in this research used source triangulation techniques through the cluster analysis and comparison diagram features in the QSR NVivo software. Based on the coding result of the research data using the help of NVivo QSR software, it is known that the biggest supporting factors of outdoor STEAM learning in early childhood education are environment, media, teachers, and infrastructure, while other supporting factors are area, cost, weather, new ideas, new experiences, and situations. The biggest inhibiting factors of outdoor STEAM learning in early childhood education are adaptability, security, and infrastructure, while other inhibiting factors areweather, support; environment, pollution, and situation. The results of this study can be used as a guideline for outdoor STEAM learning in early childhood education and make the inhibiting factors a challenge for teachers to facilitate outdoor learning as a form of maximizing the use of the environment as a learning resource in early childhood education.

Improving Students’ Writing Skill Using Textless Comic

Thisystudyyaims to identify whether the use of textless comic improveedthe students’sskill in writing recount texts. The subject of this study were the eight gradedstudents of Public Junior High School in Central Java. The method study was a ClassroomaActionnResearch. Theestudy was conducteddinntwoocycles. Todcollecttthe data, thedresearcherrusedstest such asdpre-test andppost-test. To analyzedthe data, therresearcher used quantitative datadanalysiscby using mean score. The researcher used a formula proposes by Arikunto (2010) to count the meantscore. The resulttof the research show that textlesstcomictmediascan improvesthe students’tskilltinawritingrrecount texts. The improvements of the students’twriting skill were in composing a logical sequence of ideas. Besides, the improvementoofcthe students’wwriting skillrcan be seen from the students’ writing achievement. The result of meantscore formpre-testkwas 56, in post-tests1, it was 72, and inppost-test 2, it was 77. It cannbe concluded that textlessdcomicmmedia can improve the students’dwriting skill especially in determining the logical sequence of stories in writing recount text.Keyword: Writing Skill, Textless Comic Media, Classroom Action Research.

USE OF PICTURES SERIES BASED ON LOCAL WISDOM IN TEACHING WRITING

This research was find out whether the use of pictures series based on localwisdom can improve students' developing of ideas in writing narrative texts at one ofpublic junior high school in central java.This method used in this research was a Classroom Action Research. Theresearch was conducted in two cycles in April 2022/2023 academic year. The researchwas the 32 students at one of public junior high school in central java in 2022/2023academic year. In collecting the data, the researcher used test and non-test such asobservation, interview, and documentation. To analysis data, the researcher usedqualitative and quantitative data analysis. The qualitative data analysis method that wasused proposed by Miles and Huberman analysis that consisted of data collection, datareduction, data display, and conclusion. To analyze the quantitative data, the researcherused mean score of the test.The result of the research show that pictures series based on local wisdom canimprove the students’ developing of ideas in writing narrative texts. The improvementof the students’ writing skill can be seen from the students writing achievement. Theresult of mean score for pre-test was 55, in post-test 1, it was 64, and in post-test 2, itwas 75. It can be concluded that pictures series based on local wisdom can improve thestudents’ writing skill especially in developing idea the sequence of stories in writingnarrative text.Keywords: Writing Skill, Pictures Series Media, Classroom Action Research

Challenges for Middle School Science Teachers in Assessing Scientific Inquiry Skills: A Thematic Analysis

Science learning assessment has always been challenging for science middle school teachers, especially when assessing students' scientific inquiry skills, which are essential to the science learning process. The study aims to highlight the challenges teachers confront when assessing high school pupils' capacity for scientific inquiry. It is a qualitative phenomenological study using thematic analysis techniques. Five middle school science teachers from junior high schools in Central Java participated in this study. Utilizing interviewing approaches, data was gathered. Using Clark Braun's thematic analysis methodologies, data analysis is carried out in four steps: (1) identifying the data, (2) performing coding, (3) creating themes, and (4) reviewing and defining the themes. This study shows that both internal and external factors might affect teachers' ability to undertake scientific inquiry research. The issue of obstacles teachers confront from the perspectives of students and learning systems is summarized by external variables. The researchers advised science teachers to engage in active, ongoing competence development to help them overcome challenges in evaluating scientific inquiries.

Mathematics Learning Model Based on Computational Thinking: Preparing elementary School Students to be Disciplined, Independent, and Dignified

Objective: The research aims to evaluate the feasibility of a computational thinking-based mathematics learning model. Explore strategies for preparing disciplined, independent, and dignified students by applying the developed model in elementary schools.
 
 Theoritical Framework: Computational Thinking (CT) is becoming a fundamental part of the way people think and understand the world. Mathematics offers fruitful opportunities for CT integration. Integrating mathematics with CT, allows students to acquire essential critical thinking and problem olving skills.
 
 Method: The type of research in this article is qualitative evaluative. The research subjects were the principal, math teachers, and students of Klaten Elementary School in Central Java. Data collection methods were observation, interview, and documentation. Data validity with source and method triangulation. Data analysis techniques are flow model and constant comparison.
 
 Results and Conclusions: The results of the research, the CT-based mathematics learning model is feasible based on the assessment of material, design, and language experts, and can improve learning activities and outcomes. Preparing students to be disciplined, independent, and dignified, based on strong religion, core character, lifestyle character, character respect for others. This means that CT-based mathematics learning is feasible to implement in elementary schools and can prepare students to be disciplined, independent, and dignified.
 
 Significance: The research findings have a significant impact on primary schools. The impact is to improve the quality of character, learning process, thinking, and learning achievement. This means that the research results have a broad role in the development of primary school students.

Exploring the Impact of Attachment to School Counselors on Moral Emotion Development in Slow Learners: A Case Study in Central Java Inclusive Schools

Emotion becomes an integral part that derives children's moral behavior. Moral emotion controls moral transgression by making children aware of the consequences of their actions. However, not all children can control their emotions, e.g., slow learners. The slow learners in this study are students in inclusive schools in Central Java. Their status as inclusive students resulted in feelings of alienation, even bullying. One factor affecting moral emotions is children's attachment to attachment figures, including school counselors. This study aims to determine the attachment pattern between slow learners and school counselors in developing moral emotions. This research used a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data was collected by interviews, direct observations, focused group discussions (FGD), and documentation. The results showed that the level of slow learners‘ attachment security was affected by school counselors‘ affection, responsiveness, sensitivity, and availability, both physically and emotionally. Higher security slow learners demonstrated higher trust and disclosure, and are emotionally attached to school counselors compared to those with lower security. On the other hand, attachment is associated with moral emotions of shame, guilt, and righteous anger but is not significantly associated with empathy. The findings are expected to increase awareness of school counselors in showing support and affection toward slow learners in inclusive schools, especially while providing services to fulfill guidance and counseling functions of understanding, development, and prevention.

Human Resource Development In The Pandemic Era: A Multy-Case Study at Islamic Private Elementary Schools in Central Java, Indonesia

The pandemic period that shook organizational stability was also able to inspire managers to develop human resource competencies. This article aims to analyse how private school managers at Central Java, Indonesia take advantage during the pandemic to develop human resource competencies. The approach used is qualitative phenomenology. Data were collected through observation, interviews with informants and also from references. The results indicate that school principals of the Islamic Private Schools can take advantage of the pandemic period to provide education and training, especially in ICT and redesigning teaching preparations. Besides that, it can also change the mindset of employees to adapt alterations and have high motivation at work, but still adhere to health protocols. This may be difficult when the training is carried out under normal conditions. The valuable lesson from this study is how school principals can perform human resource development in a fully-risked condition of pandemic.
