These innovations have permeated all aspects of life and work, significantly impacting the climate both positively and negatively. BioTrade and Income Inequality: Does Frontier Technology Readiness Matter?

While empirical studies exploring the impacts of international trade on income inequality have continued to expand, yielding mixed results, less attention has been devoted to the effects of BioTrade on income redistribution. This article addresses this gap by examining the impact of BioTrade on income inequality, with a specific emphasis on the role of technological innovations. We employ a panel model encompassing 131 countries over the period 2010-2019, utilizing instrumental variable two-stage least squares and smoothed instrumental-variable quantile regression. Overall, the results indicate a strong positive link between BioTrade and income inequality, yet its effects remain heterogeneous across sub-regions and the distribution of income inequality. To elucidate this positive link, the article presents evidence of the crucial role of the level of readiness for advanced technologies. Consequently, technological innovations play a pivotal role in mitigating the accelerating effects of BioTrade on inequality. The results are robust to a battery of robustness tests, including variations in estimation methodologies, alternative measures of inequality and BioTrade, and the inclusion of control variables. These results call upon policymakers to champion technological innovations, such as Internet access and research and development, as crucial strategies for effectively and sustainably alleviating the aggravation of inequalities induced by BioTrade.

Digitalization as a factor in legitimizing the process of forming legislative authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation

This article examines the impact of digital technologies on the legitimacy of the electoral process in the Russian Federation. By showcasing the evolution of the technical equipment within the Russian electoral system, the author highlights its adaptability and ability to quickly embrace technical innovations. Through the analysis of experiences accumulated over past electoral cycles, the author demonstrates the positive effects of digital technologies on legitimizing the electoral process and outlines the main examples of such influence. In particular, the role of technological innovations in minimizing the impact of the “human factor” on the electoral process is shown. Additionally, the paper illustrates the significant contribution of remote electronic voting to improving the accessibility of elections for all groups of the population, which in turn leads to an increase in the representativeness of their results. Thus, the author reaches a reasoned conclusion about the necessity of continuing the integration of advanced digital technologies into election procedures at all levels to increase the legitimacy of the election procedure itself and the authority bodies formed as a result, including the regional legislatures of the Russian Federation.

The impact of technological innovations on the environmental Kuznets curve: evidence from EU-27

The EKC hypothesis expresses the inverted U-shaped relationship between per capita income and environmental quality. In the literature, the role of technological innovations and income inequality on pollution is a relatively recent discussion in the studies testing the EKC hypothesis. The aim of this paper is to investigate the impact of technological innovations, income inequality, exports, urbanization, and growth on CO2 emissions in EU-27. In addition, while investigating this relationship, exports and urbanization are also considered and panel vector autoregression (PVAR) analysis is applied for the 2005–2019 period. According to the coefficient estimation results, while income inequality, exports, and urbanization increase pollution, technological innovations contribute to environmental quality. Also, the results demonstrated that the EKC hypothesis is invalid in these countries and there is a U-shaped relationship between growth and emissions. The causality test results revealed the presence of unidirectional causality running from all explanatory variables to CO2 emissions. Moreover, impulse-response graphs demonstrated that the reply of emissions to the shocks in the explanatory variables is similar to the long-run coefficient results. In conclusion, all available empirical evidence for this relationship highlights that income inequality and technological innovations should be considered in policy-making processes to ensure environmental quality in EU-27 countries.

A Survey on the Role of Technological Innovation in Nigerian Deposit Money Bank Fraud Prevention

Technological innovation plays a pivotal role in transforming the landscape of fraud prevention within Nigeria Deposit Money Banks (DMBs). This research explores the multifaceted impact of advanced technologies on fortifying the defenses of DMBs against fraudulent activities. Leveraging a comprehensive analysis of survey results and empirical data, the study delves into the perceptions and attitudes of stakeholders towards the integration of innovative solutions, including advanced data analytics, machine learning algorithms, real-time monitoring systems, and block chain technology. The findings reveal a widespread consensus among participants regarding the positive impact of these technologies on early fraud detection, prevention, and overall security. Notably, 86% of respondents acknowledge the positive impact of advanced data analytics and machine learning algorithms, emphasizing their potential benefits in thwarting fraudulent activities. Real-time monitoring systems, artificial intelligence, robust encryption, and cyber security protocols were also recognized by a majority of participants, affirming their crucial roles in bolstering fraud prevention measures within DMBs. The study employs a chi-square test to establish significant relationships between technological innovation and the enhancement of fraud prevention mechanisms, supported by calculated values exceeding critical thresholds. Furthermore, the abstract highlights the importance of continuous staff training, collaboration with fintech innovators, and regular security audits as integral components of a holistic fraud prevention strategy. The overall positive sentiments expressed by respondents underscore the transformative potential of technological innovation in mitigating fraud risks. This study contributes valuable insights that inform decision-making processes, guiding the strategic integration of advanced technologies within the Nigerian banking sector to reinforce operational frameworks against emerging fraud challenges. Technological innovation stands as an indispensable catalyst for fortifying the defense mechanisms of Nigeria Deposit Money Banks against fraud. Natural resources, economic growth, and environmental sustainability in China: the role of technological innovation

Economic development, energy sustainability, and pollution are issues related to human survival, and it is crucial to properly address the relationships between them. This article examines the nexus between natural resources (NRs), technological innovation, economic growth (EG), and environmental sustainability in China by applying a fixed effect model, random effect model, instrumental variable estimation, using panel data from 30 Chinese provinces as the basis of investigation. (1) There is a “resource curse” in the role of NRs in economic development; the accumulation of human capital, the degree of marketization and the degree of urbanization can mitigate the phenomenon of “resource curse”. (2) The phenomenon of “resource curse” is mainly caused by the displacement effect of technological innovation. (3) Natural resource exploitation and economic development inhibit environmental sustainability, while technological innovation promotes environmental sustainability. Based on the research conclusions, policy insights are proposed to increase the degree of marketization, strengthen human capital accumulation, increase scientific and technological investment, and increase the supply of renewable energy, with a view to providing assistance in promoting the harmonious development of human beings and nature as well as the economic development of various regions.

The role of technological innovation in the mitigation of the crisis generated by COVID-19: an empirical study of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Latin America

Purpose This article aims to analyze the role of innovation in mitigating the economic crisis generated by the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Latin American small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The goal is to determine whether actions, activities, and perceptions related to impact and positioning within three distinct areas—finance, management, and competition—contribute to increased innovation within companies, remain neutral in their effects, or have an inverse impact. Design/methodology The sample consisted of 9,186 SMEs from 14 countries in the Ibero-American region: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The data were analyzed using a structural equation model (SEM). Findings The study provides empirical evidence that the SMEs in the Ibero-American region have faced the crisis generated by the COVID-19 with a predominant negative impact on their financial factors and sales. These impacts have affected the organization, particularly at the operational level, leading to the need for self-financing and more conscious resource management. The most significant finding is that, as financial challenges, as in productivity, turnover, and profitability, among other difficulties, increase innovation actions. Limitations Research exposes limitations that pave the way for future studies. Firstly, the study relies solely on data obtained from top-level company consultations. Second, there are variations in sample sizes by country. Practical implications The results reveal practical implications for SMEs owners and managers, shedding light on the influence of innovation in sustaining competitiveness during times of crisis. This, when combined with resilience, product quality, employee engagement and customer satisfaction, has facilitated the sustainability of a significant portion of SMEs that have weathered an unprecedented crisis. Originality-value The value of this work lies in highlighting the significance of innovation for SMEs and the opportunities that arise during a crisis to enhance competitiveness. Companies that have embraced innovations in the way they offer or deliver their products and services have managed to remain in the market despite the challenges posed by the crisis.

How does regional technological innovation affect energy poverty? The role of industrial structure distortion

China still faces relatively serious energy poverty, and technological innovation is considered effective at alleviating this issue. This paper empirically investigates the impact of regional technological innovation on energy poverty based on panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2001 to 2020. This paper explores the effect of industrial structure distortion in the process of technological innovation on energy poverty. This paper conducts asymmetry analysis and investigates the heterogeneous impact of technological innovation on energy poverty in different areas. The research conclusions are as follows: (1) Regional technological innovation can effectively alleviate energy poverty. (2) Industrial structure distortion moderates the impact of technological innovation on energy poverty, and it weakens the effect of technological innovation in alleviating energy poverty, although the moderating effect is not significant in coal-producing regions. (3) The effect of technological innovation on alleviating energy poverty is more obvious in regions where energy poverty is prominent. (4) The role of technological innovation in alleviating energy poverty shows spatial heterogeneity, and this alleviation effect is more obvious in the western and non-coal producing regions. We also propose several policy implications for alleviating energy poverty.

The empirical result validates the existence of the EKC hypothesis, which states that sustained economic expansion causes environmental quality to first fall before improving over time with a doubling of per capita income. Moreover, it was discovered that the natural resource coefficients did not exhibit statistical significance in any of the equations, highlighting their theoretical value. On the other hand, technical advancements had a major detrimental effect that eventually reduced the ecological footprint It emphasizes how important environmental conservation is. The long-term experiential estimations estimated from the battery of second-generation methods, which tackled other econometric estimation problems such as heterogeneity and cross-sectional dependency. The empirical outcomes discovered that natural resources and globalization process in South Asian region significantly increase the level of ecological footprint in the long-run. Conversely, technological innovations, forest area, and renewable energy upsurge environmental sustainability by reducing ecological footprint in the and long-run. Moreover, the interaction of natural resources with technological innovation, forest area, and renewable energy also adds in curtailing the level of ecological footprint and aid in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 13. Based on the estimated findings, substantial policy recommendations are suggested like improving the extraction of natural resources, promoting energy efficiency, investment in energy technologies, and increasing the deployment of renewable energy sources to increase technological invention and achieve the goal of a net-zero-emissions.

Technological Innovations and Regional Security Control towards Sustainable Development in the G5 Sahel Region

The Sahel region has suffered multiple security threats that have posed multiple challenges to the security of the entire region and other parts of the world. Following a buildup of security threats in the region since 2012, the US and EU have partnered to provide troops to bolster security and forestall the spread of radicalization into terrorism. This paper focuses on the role of technological innovations on security control and crime management, provides background to the study, with focus on the rise of technology on security control and crime management. The paper also discusses the history of the crisis in the Sahel, focusing on the G5 Sahel, and provides key recommendations on the use of technology as a panacea for security control and crime management in the G5 Sahel. The study was based on securitization theory and was carried out using case-study research design based on three objectives: to assess the current technological innovation infrastructure in use in the G5 Sahel region, evaluate the impact of technological innovations in crime management and security control in the G5 Sahel region and to assess the potential of emerging technological innovations in addressing crime and security management in the G5 Sahel and the broader Sub-Saharan Africa. Technological innovations are critical components of addressing cross border challenges. However, technology can also lead to insecurity challenges, where insurgents use them to perpetrate crimes, including using UAVs to strike at civilian targets. The researchers find that the use of technology has become consequential in the fight against crime and insecurity. They also find that technology has helped address emergent needs in crime and security management in the G5 Sahel. They recommend that there is need to re-imagine the G5 Sahel to increase coordination among member states. Adaptive leadership is a crucial aspect of managing enterprises under conditions of uncertainty. This in-volves being flexible and responsive to the business's changing environment and challenges. The study's general conclusions indicate the need for flexible management strategies, the use of modern technologies and the development of new investment models to succeed in conditions of constant uncertainty and change. An important advantage is also the ability of venture capital to attract for-eign investments and contribute to the support of national innovative projects. Pathways to carbon neutrality in G7 economies: The role of technology-innovation and R&D in reducing CO2 emissions

Implementing technological advancements plays a pivotal role in attaining carbon neutrality, a goal that seeks to diminish net carbon emissions to a state of equilibrium effectively. While numerous studies have been conducted on this subject, only a few recognize the unique contribution of technology, research, and development (R&D) in mitigating carbon emissions (CO2E). The current study examines the significance of technology innovation, R&D, and renewable energy consumption (REC) in mitigating CO2E. To this end, we examine the linkages between variables for the seven countries (G7) group from 1990 to 2020. The long- and short-run Cross-Sectional Autoregressive Distributive Lag (CS-ARDL) results confirm a consistent and stable association between technology innovation, R&D, REC, and CO2E. Both in the short- and long-run, economic growth and industrial value add increase CO2E, while technology innovation, R&D, and REC are all supportive of reducing CO2E. We applied the Common Correlated Effect Mean Group (CCEMG) model for the robustness check, which verified the CS-ARDL model's empirical results. However, the impact of long-run coefficients for R&D, economic growth, and REC is higher in the CS-ARDL model. In contrast, the coefficient of technology innovation is higher in the CCEMG model. In addition, the findings obtained from Dumitrescu and Hurlin's (DH) tests indicate that policies to target technology innovation, human capital, and REC significantly influence variations in CO2E and vice versa. On the other hand, policies for changes in R&D, economic growth, and industrial structure cause deviation in the intensity of CO2E but not vice versa. The current findings would provide practical insights and a policy adaptation framework for policymakers that are helpful for carbon neutrality and sustainable economic development.

Study on the impact of R&D input intensity on technological innovation output - Based on data from China's high technology industry.

With the continuous promotion of China's innovation-driven development strategy, the role of technological innovation on economic development has become increasingly important. In this context, the support of R&D capital investment for technological innovation also becomes non-negligible. This leads to the question of whether the allocation of R&D capital is reasonable and whether there is room for further improvement. This paper is based on inter-provincial panel data from 2009 to 2020, which are classified based on China's National Bureau of Statistics for R&D funding sources in high-tech industries and incorporated into an overall discussion framework. Using STATA16 statistical software, the R&D innovation output of high-tech industries is inves-tigated by building a PVAR model with the perspective of funding sources of R&D input intensity. The study results show that (1) the increase in the intensity of enterprises' own capital investment has a positive impact on innovation output because it can generate a financial "reservoir" effect to support technological innovation. (2) the increase in the intensity of government capital invest-ment has a positive impact on innovation output because it can alleviate the loss of income of en-terprises due to "R&D spillover" and will send a positive signal to the market. (3) the foreign in-vestment intensity has a positive impact on the innovation output of enterprises due to the com-bined effect of "spillover effect" and "crowding out effect". (4) the increase of other capital in-vestment intensity also has a neutral effect on the increase of innovation output under the current financial market environment. Finally, based on the above findings, corresponding policy impli-cations are drawn. This study will help to improve the understanding of R&D capital allocation imbalance and R&D input and output issues in developing countries and provide a reference for policy makers.
