Social Interaction in Building Religious Tolerance in Sukabumi City Society

This study aims to determine the understanding of society, social interaction in building religious tolerance and the role of religious institutions in maintaining religious tolerance in the community of Sukabumi. This form of study is qualitative and based on fieldwork using three methods including phenomenological method, sociological method, and historical method. The results of this study found that: first, the understanding of the people of Sukabumi about tolerance reflects an attitude of respect and acceptance of religious diversity, culture, and views. They actively interact with diverse backgrounds, respect human rights, and encourage interfaith and cultural participation in community activities. This understanding creates an inclusive, harmonious, and peaceful coexistence environment, which makes Sukabumi an inspiring example in building a tolerant society. Social interaction between citizens of different religions and effective social communication have established a social contract that respects and respects religious rights. Sukabumi's achievement as the 6th tolerant city in Indonesia shows the commitment of the government and society in promoting the values of tolerance. Positive factors, such as government policies, inclusive education programs, and public awareness, contributed to this achievement. Through the iceberg models approach, researchers can understand how social interaction fosters harmony and awareness of religious diversity. Understanding and respect for religious diversity is the hallmark of Sukabumi that must be strengthened in order to be an example of harmony for a diverse Indonesia.

The Role of Mosque Istiqlal Osaka, Japan: Preliminary Observations on Islamic Religious Practices for the Indonesian Migrant Worker Society

This research paper presents preliminary observations on the role of Mosque Istiqlal in Osaka, Japan, in facilitating Islamic religious practices for the Indonesian migrant worker society. As globalization has led to increased migration flows, many Indonesian workers have moved to Japan in search of better economic opportunities. However, living in a non-Muslim majority country presents challenges for practicing their faith. The study aims to investigate how Mosque Istiqlal serves as a religious and social hub for the Indonesian migrant worker community in Osaka. Through qualitative research methods including interviews, participant observations, and document analysis, this research explores the various functions of the mosque in supporting the religious needs and social integration of Indonesian migrants.The findings reveal that Mosque Istiqlal plays a crucial role in providing a space for collective worship, religious education, cultural events, and social support for the Indonesian migrant worker society. The mosque serves as a center for fostering a sense of community, preserving cultural identity, and offering a familiar environment for religious practices in a foreign land.Through this preliminary study, we highlight the significance of religious institutions like Mosque Istiqlal in supporting the well-being and integration of migrant communities in host countries. The research underscores the importance of further exploration into the role of religious institutions in facilitating the religious and social needs of migrant populations, contributing to a better understanding of the intersection between religion, migration, and community building.

Persepsi dan Harapan Masyarakat Lampung terhadap Kitab “Qur’an Terjemahan Bahasa Lampung” dalam Meningkatkan Kearifan Bahasa Lokal

Modernization and globalization in the Era 5.0. Only at home, in villages, and in Lampung's minority communities is the Lampung language used for intercommunal communication. English or Indonesian are the two languages most commonly spoken. This survey attempts to give a general picture of how the Lampung population feels about and anticipates the Lampung Language Translation of the Qur'an. The Qur'an's Lampung Language Translation was the subject of a qualitative study to learn how the Lampung people felt about it and what they expected, as well as how to preserve the Lampung language's wisdom and prevent its extinction. The discussion's findings demonstrate that the Lampung translation of the Koran is: 1) Can be found at bookstores, research centers, and libraries; 2) Increase understanding and experience of the contents of the Qur'an; 3) The role of Religious Institutions and Leaders in increasing local language wisdom 4) Recommendations in the form of WEB (Online) applications.

Western churches and politics: frontiers of ideologic divergence

The article deals with conflict lines in the interaction of religious institutions and political actors in Europe. Church policy in the West is seen as a practical implementation of the neo-secular approach, which implies a reduction in the role of religious institutions and church elites while remaining religiosity and quasi-religiousness. It is shown that the contradictions of state-confessional relations in Western countries pose both a threat to the value autonomy of religious organizations and an increasing trend towards the instrumentalization of religion in foreign policy. It is shown that attempts of value pressure on traditional church institutions contribute to the formation of a hostile environment that contributes to the strengthening of intra-church contradictions. As a result, religious organizations find themselves in a situation of multiplying ideological divisions and artificially pushed internal competition. The risks of reducing the institutional stability of traditional churches based on the unity of the doctrine and striving for internal unity are increasing. In this regard, the article offers an analysis of possible internal and external reactions of church institutions to the increasing pressure. As possible scenarios, the strengthening of the processes of ideological and regional autonomy and the increase in increasingly open conflicts with secular authorities in a number of countries on topical issues of the political agenda are considered. Under any of the scenarios, it is predicted that the fault line between European countries will strengthen on issues with a strong religious connotation, which may lead to an increase in social tension and deepening of divisions among the electorate in the Western states.

Reflections on recent developments in the governance of schools in Ireland and the role of the church

This article analyses recent developments in school governance in Ireland. The context for school governance in Ireland is changing. Features of this new context include increased population diversity partly because of immigration; an increasingly negative attitude to religion; a decline in religious observance; economic growth; the school performance compared with other countries; increasing population size; the nature of the electoral system, which brings local issues to the fore; and the unionization of the teaching profession, which affects system change. This changing context is set against the embedded and strong influence of organised religion. Disquiet at the church's influence on educational policy and practice is increasing. The government's intention to address this influence is slow to impact but evidence indicates that the role of religious institutions in school governing in Ireland is declining. Because the present situation is unsustainable, a crisis in school patronage is looming.

Exploring a faith-based approach to puberty education in Tanzania.

Many adolescents in Tanzania do not receive timely and comprehensive puberty education. This study explored faith-based organizations a site for puberty education. Two puberty books, each developed through participatory research with Tanzanian adolescents and stakeholders, were promoted to 177 Christian denomination churches in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to understand the factors that faith leaders considered in their decision to purchase puberty books, or share information about the intervention to their peers and congregants. Data collection included routine monitoring via weekly reports and ethnographic observation. Data were analyzed using the Ecological Framework for Health Promotion to capture how individual, interpersonal, and institutional factors influenced leaders' decisions to purchase or promote puberty books. At the individual level, leaders cited their personal experiences in their support for the intervention, but leaders' time and confidence in their ability to effectively promote books to others were barriers to participation. Interpersonally, the diffusion of information between church leaders, particularly when information came from well-known or respected leaders, emerged as an important factor in leaders' willingness to promote books. At the institutional level, leaders' decisions were impacted by resources, institutional culture, and institutional hierarchy. Importantly, twelve churches in the sample purchased books. Limited financial resources and the need to receive approval from denominational leaders were discussed by leaders as barriers to purchasing books. Despite research showing high religiosity in Tanzania, the role of religious institutions in providing puberty education has remained unexplored. Our results inform future research and practice by providing an articulation of the socioecological factors that played a role in faith leaders' decisions related to puberty education interventions in Tanzania.

The Challenges of the Girl Child in Stan-Collins Ubaka`S A Cry of Innocence

One of the most topical engagements in the contemporary African literature is the girl child issue against the backdrop of gender discourse. Numerous campaigns have been going on securing the rights of the girl child. Obviously, many writers have contributed copiously to the campaign, especially in the Nigerian context. Stan Collins Ubaka in his novel, A Cry of Innocence has made a remarkable reference to the circumstances bedeviling the girl child in a typical African setting. Against this background, this paper examines the challenges of the girl child in the Nigerian context with reference to Stan Collins Ubaka’s A cry of Innocence. The author may have many other themes but this paper approaches the novel from the perspective of gender discourse; while interrogating the challenges confronting the girl child in Nigeria despite the provisions of the child rights act which was enacted in 2003. This study adopts descriptive design and qualitative method in its analysis. The findings reveal the experiences of a girl in a typical African cultural background characterized by myths, suspicion, mistrust and injustice; it is such situations that compel the girl to tell lies, be discriminated against, and feel lonely; commit `suicide, experience various abuses, assaults, and psychological trauma. This paper concludes that the parents of the girl child, especially the mother has the primary responsibility of protecting, safeguarding and preserving the dignity and future of the girl child; although the roles of religious institutions and the society are also undermined. According to this paper, if the rights and dignity of the girl child is preserved and protected, she would be able to contribute to the economic, social and political development of her nation in particular and the globe in general.

Assessment of the Role of Religious Institutions in Enhancing Secondary School Security in Sokoto Metropolis, Sokoto State, Nigeria

This study investigated the role of religious institutions in enhancing secondary school security in Sokoto Metropolis, Sokoto State, Nigeria. Two research objectives were formulated to guide the study: to assess the role of religious institutions in enhancing secondary school security and to also examine the constraints to the role of religious institutions in enhancing secondary school security in Sokoto Metropolis, Sokoto State, Nigeria. The study was motivated by the increasing cases of insecurity in the education sector and the need to find a lasting solution by all stakeholders, including religious institutions. Qualitative research method was adopted for the study and interview was used in collecting data. The population of the study comprises school administrators, religious Subjects’ teachers and religious leaders, where nine participants were selected using snowball sampling technique. The data were analysed using thematic analysis and the findings revealed that religious institutions play a spiritual supportive role, advisory role in government and private owned schools and play a huge and direct role in schools owned by them by purchasing of security gadgets, construction of school fence, liaising with security agents, among others. It was also revealed that among the constraints in enhancing secondary school security are: financial, political, legal, among others. Based on these findings, the study concludes that religious institutions play a great role in enhancing secondary school security in schools owned by them but play a supportive and advisory role in other schools due to some constraints and therefore recommends that government should provide constitutional framework to support religious institutions in order to enable them carry out some roles in enhancing security of schools and that of the society in general.

Hybrid transnational social protection: The role of religious institutions and networks

More and more people live, study, work, and retire in countries where they are not full citizens. How do they protect and provide for themselves and their families when they live for extended periods outside the places where they have citizenship rights? In this talk, I offer a framework for understanding hybrid transnational social protection developed in a forthcoming book with my colleagues Erica Dobbs, Ken Sun, and Ruxandra Paul. We argue that mobile people create resource environments that span national borders with supports they purchase through the market, obtain from the public sector, from communities, and from their social networks. I focus here on the role of religious institutions and networks as transnational social welfare providers. I draw, in particular, on research conducted with Breda Gray on the role of the Catholic Church in Italy, Mexico, and the Philippines.

The Role of Religious Institutions in Promoting Social Welfare in Indonesia

This paper discusses religion from social anthropological point of view. Religious teachings are not seen as something sacred and transcendent, but something worldly and immanent as a source of motives of its followers while religious institution are seen as religion inspired social institutions that have their role in the society. The method used in this study is fieldwork. The data are collected though participative observation and interview. Literary study is also done to complete the data and check the data collected from the field. The result of this study shows that due to this nature, in promoting social welfare, religion through its teachings and institutions work on two levels: spiritual and practical level. Though this paper uses the Indonesian Catholic Church as an example, other religious institutions may have similar programs to participate in the process of making the world better place for everybody.

The relevance of this study lies in the study of social patterns in the development of relations between confessional communities, the forms of manifestation of these patterns associated with the assimilation, preservation and dissemination of religious ideas, ideas, norms and values. The theoretical value of the article lies in the fact that it actualizes the issues of confessional and interfaith relations in the post-Soviet period, the problems of the development of Orthodox culture and philosophical religious thought as a basis for a deeper spread of Christian social teaching in Russia. The paper defines the role of the Russian Orthodox Church during the period of its depopularization, considers a number of reasons for the decline in the number of believers and the decline in the popularity of the ROC in general and among young people in particular: bureaucratization, theocracy – the merger of the state and the church, the passive policy of the church in matters of popularizing Orthodoxy. The main attention is paid to the need to create a social concept of the Russian Orthodox Church as the main basic position on the relationship between church, state and society. The article highlights the views of Russian and foreign writers, theologians and philosophers I. Ilyin, P. Chaadaev, A. de Kustin, F. Dostoevsky, A. Solzhenitsyn, M. Marle, H. Kung, on the problems of church totalitarianism and "clerical aristocracy", issues of influence and mutual influence of various currents of Christianity on the formation of national character, moral-moral and spiritual values of a person, history of difficult relations between Orthodoxy and Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Soviet power. The value of the article lies in the fact that it raises practical issues of rapprochement of Christian confessions (ecumenism) in the field of interfaith relations, the need for such unity not to the detriment of the confessional, regional national specificity of Christianity, it notes a global trend towards a decrease in the role of religious institutions in the minds of people and the life of society – secularization and its causes: globalization, urbanization, the development of science and education, the development of material values and technological progress

Religion and Food Insecurity in the Time of COVID-19: Food Sovereignty for a Healthier Future

ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and amplified food insecurity in marginalized communities of color, revealing systemic health and socioeconomic inequalities. Given the role that religious organizations play in building social capital, disseminating information to local communities, and facilitating the distribution of basic necessities such as food, they are integrally involved in short- and long-term solutions to food insecurity. Yet, literature on the role of religious institutions for mitigating food insecurity is limited. The literature related to methods and means by which religious organizations engage community efforts to mitigate food security as well as studies in food sovereignty will be reviewed.

Katekese Virtual kepada Korban Bencana Alam di Masa Pandemi Menurut Model Berteologi Kosuke Koyama

Currently, Indonesia is entering difficult phases because the Indonesian nation is not only dealing with the storm of the Covid-19 pandemic but also natural disasters. This disaster brought a traumatic experience for the victims. Healing for victims can indeed be done with a psychological approach, but strengthening faith is no less important. Based on this, the focus of research studies is on the role of religious institutions, particularly the Church, in handling victims of natural disasters. The role of the Church is seen in catechesis. In catechesis, the Church teaches the values of the gospel and confirms the faith of the people that the suffering experienced is not a curse from God. During a pandemic, catechetical work can be done by utilizing virtual spaces such as social media content. Social media is a means of proclaiming the faith that is easily accessible by the people. This kind of catechetical and theological method was initiated by Kosuke Koyama. According to Koyama, the right catechesis model must start from the concrete problems of the people. Based on this, this research study uses the literature study method. Literary sources were researched and analyzed so that a catechetical model was found that was appropriate to the social context of the Indonesian people who were being hit by natural disasters.

Pandangan Tokoh Agama Islam dalam Menyikapi Pandemi Covid-19

The Covid-19 problem that continues to haunt public life impacts the implementation of religion in society. For this reason, faith has moved itself to overcome the prevention that has been carried out. Religion plays a significant role in regulating human life, so religious leaders are always expected to provide guidance and religious doctrine in responding to covid 19. The purpose of this study was to find out about the views of Islamic religious leaders and from religious doctrine itself in responding to the Covid pandemic. -19. The method used is the descriptive qualitative research method. Primary data sources are sources taken directly from religious organization figures such as Nahdlatul Ulama, Persatuan Islam, and Muhammadiyah. The secondary data sources are literature such as books, journals, and other scientific works to collect data systematically. Data analysis was carried out in several ways, namely data reduction, data presentation and verification. Religious institutions also have a role in the community in responding to the Covid-19 outbreak, namely moving in helping the community, providing solutions and contributing according to government regulations to the community. In matters of worship, the community must know whether the rules of congregational worship are allowed or not and whether other sacred places are allowed to be visited. It all goes into the role of religious institutions in guiding the community.

RELIGION AND FAITH IN THE CONTEXT OF COVID-19 IN INDIA

India is a country of faith and has followers of various religions. Religion has always served the mankind and played a significant role of ointment for the soul and has demonstrated to be positively associated with better emotional health. Along with all other aspects of life, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected faith, religion and spirituality in different ways. Due to fast spread of virus, numerous restrictions on religious activities have been implemented. The same has impacted religion in various ways, including the cancellation of the worship services of various faiths, as well as the cancellation of pilgrimages, ceremonies and festivals etc. In this brief review, we have studied the relief works and role of religious institutions, congregations, and individuals in this pandemic. Present study also studied the strategically and innovative approaches for revealing ongoing changes to religion, along with the changes in people mindset towards ways of worship, God, religion, humanity and physical gathering etc. The outcomes of this study revealed that pandemic made most people shocked and physical gathering in worship places is restricted. Presently, all over the world, worship is offering through online /livestream, by churches, synagogues, mosques, gurudwara, and temples on virtual platform. In this period, a great collaboration was seen among government, non-governmental organizations, wealthy persons, and common public in relief work. Though, this pandemic has put drastic loss in term of life, health, economy etc but optimistic are seeing grace of God here too.

Terrorism as a Major Threat to Societal Peace: The Case of Pakistan

Purpose: The central objective of this research is to look at causes behind the phenomenon of terrorism faced by Pakistan. In the contemporary era, Pakistan is facing and suffering from the destructive and gravest issue of terrorism. It has become a major problem not only for the federation as well as for the citizens of Pakistan. Terrorism has made the Pakistani society, where people do not feel secure, a society that lacks a responsible system. The factors that caused terrorism are societal despotism, economic inconsistency, political uncertainty, religious dogmatism as well as foreign intervention or international stratagem.&#x0D; Design/Methodology/Approach: Qualitative method has been used in this study. Secondary sources including newspapers and research articles have been used to evaluate reasons as well as the dynamics of the phenomenon of terrorism which has severely damaged social fabric of the Pakistani society.&#x0D; Findings: The article has evaluated the major causes of multiple societal dimensions of terrorism and found that unsystematic government set-up, non-democratic system, absence of law and order and frustration and collapse of law enforcement organizations, incursion, and ingress of refugees, weaponization as well as talibanization. It has also revealed that role of religious institutions, madrassas and religious sermons delivered on the occasion of daily life religious rituals are major reasons of the extremism prevailing in the Pakistani society.&#x0D; Implications/Originality/Value: So, it is concluded that the major causes of multiple societal dimensions of terrorism are religious institutions, hate-speeches delivered at different ceremonies of religious and social rituals.

Ensuring Individual Rights through Institutional Freedoms: The Role of Religious Institutions in Securing Religious Rights

Understanding the restrictions placed on religious institutions and associations, or the freedoms that they are denied, is essential for understanding the limits placed on individual religious freedoms and human rights more generally. This study uses the Religion and State round 3 (RAS3) dataset to track restrictions faced by religious organizations and individuals between 1990 and 2014 and explores how reduced institutional freedoms results in fewer individual freedoms. We find that restrictions on both institutional and individual religious freedoms are common and rising. Restrictions on institutional religious freedom are harsher against religious minorities than restrictions on individual freedoms. However, against the majority religion, restrictions on individual religious freedoms are harsher.
