Support Service Units in Romania: The Role of Organizational Communication

The main objective of this paper is to analyze the degree of professionalism of the organizational communication in the services providing units in Romania. We also aimed to review the impact that the lack of involvement in the professionalization of organizational communication has on the activity of these entities. The paper represents a quantitative research, by using an online questionnaire distributed to the personnel from the units that provide support services in Romania, both at the level of the executive and management functions. This questionnaire was answered by 291 employees the reply being given in the crowdsourcing system, representing a percentage of 19.4 of the total staff in the field of support services. Once it was established the representativeness of the sample, the research started with the main idea according to which, at the time of our study, in the services providing units in Romania, there were not shown any concerns for the development and promotion of the ethics and professionalism of organizational communication. Moreover, as we have demonstrated, the issue regarding organizational communication based on scientific grounds was only a theoretical goal. The answers obtained to the twenty questions of the questionnaire allowed us to notice and analyze some specific aspects of organizational communication at the level of the services providing units in Romania. For maximum accuracy of the results, our analysis was based on three derived working hypotheses. The methodology for testing these three working hypotheses was based on the multiple correspondence analysis, through the IBM SPSS 20 application, and on the method of comparison of the average scores, this being underlined by using also the ANOVA technique, for nuancing the results. The econometric testing of the hypotheses has led to their validation and allowed the formulation of appropriate conclusions regarding the professionalism of organizational communication and efficiency of the activity of the services providing units in Romania.

The Role of Organizational Communication in Improving the Performance of the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) in the Makassar City Governance Section

The objectives of this study are to identify what organizational communication efforts are being done to improve the performance of ASN in the Makassar City Governance section, and to find out how the role of organizational communication in improving ASN performance in the Makassar City Governance section is. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The type of research used is the field type (Field Research). This research lasted for one month and was located at the Makassar City Hall office with 4 informants. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the efforts on the part of Governance in improving the performance of the State Civil Apparatus are by giving rewards and punishments, if the employee's performance is good, they will be rewarded, and if the employee's performance is not good, they will be punished. The role of communication carried out by the Makassar city government is vertical and horizontal communication, where superiors provide motivation to subordinates, and subordinates provide input or solutions to superiors and fellow employees in the governance section

The effect of organizational communication, transformational leadership and organizational learning to OSH performance A Case Study in PT WASKITA KARYA

Cases of work accidents are still happening today, including the construction service company. It indicates that the safety performance of construction service companies is not optimal, so it is important and needs to be investigated, especially safety culture, organizational communication, learning organization, and transformational leadership. Hence, this study explores the role of organizational communication in mediating the influence of transformational leadership and learning organization on safety culture and safety performance. The study used a quantitative approach through a survey with a questionnaire instrument designed on a Likert scale. The participant is 218 workers of PT. Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk. Data analysis using structural equation modeling.
 The results showed that transformational leadership, learning organization, and safety culture had a positive and significant direct effect on work safety performance and safety culture, in addition the result also confirm that the key success factor for safety performance is organizational communication. Based on these findings, practically it is recommended that organizational communication among the workforce needs to be improved continuously to make a greater contribution to safety culture and performance.

This study aimed at learn about the role of organizational communication in enhancing the organizational loyalty of employees of the joint stock companies in Abha. In order to achieve these objectives, the study adopted descriptive analytical method, and the researcher designed a questionnaire as a main tool for collecting the necessary data, which were applied to a sample of workers in the companies contributing to the father (59) individuals. The results of the study reached several results, the most important of which is that there is a role for organizational communication in enhancing the organizational loyalty of the employees of the joint stock companies in Abha. The results of the arithmetic averages showed that the sub-hypothesis is not accepted, which states that: "There is an average level of organizational communication between presidents and subordinates In the companies participating in the city of Abha, "and the sub-hypothesis that states:" There is an average level of organizational loyalty among the employees of the companies in the city of Abha, "and the sub-hypothesis that states:" There are statistically significant differences in the relationship between organizational communication and loyalty Organization Due to demographic characteristics (sex - age - education level - the nature of the job - years of experience)". The study recommended a number of recommendations, the most important of which is that every company of any kind and size must work on developing its communications methods and surround everything that might impede this process, whether in terms of the worker's psychological or regulatory environment, in order to strengthen the organizational loyalty of the employees of these companies , And to increase the awareness of officials of the joint stock companies of the importance of the role of communication in enhancing the organizational loyalty of employees and the reflection on the completion and development of these companies.

Novas estratégias comunicacionais diante da pandemia de Covid-19: reflexões sobre o papel público da comunicação organizacional / New communication strategies in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic: reflections on the public role of organizational communication

The Covid-19 pandemic impacted many social spheres and demanded immediate transformations in society. Organizations needed to reinvent themselves quickly in several aspects, such as their internal practices, as well as in the way of relating to their various publics. This evidenced the interdependence between business organizations and society, requiring them to act for collective interests. In view of this, it is observed that these organizations are assuming a public character, being important to think about how they get involved with society and what are the impacts for social, political, cultural and economic realities. For this, organizational communication has an important role because it is able to act in the public sphere with regard to the promotion of debates that can impact collective attitudes, considering that organizations occupy a strategic position to direct issues that influence social behavior. As a communicative phenomenon, they disseminate ideas, values, and information that influences society, mainly because of their centrality in the daily lives of individuals. So, facing the pandemic scenario, there are numerous corporate actions that aim to serve the public interest, such as the initiative “Todos pela Saúde” (All for Health), an alliance between several organizations. This initiative was chosen as the object of study for contributing to the objective of this paper: analyzes the public role of organizational communication by assuming that communication strategies can generate an impact on public interests in face of the Covid-19 pandemic. The movement aims to mitigate the effects caused by the virus by supporting public health actions promoted by SUS (“Sistema Único de Saúde”- Health Unic System), contributing with solutions and financial support to the public authorities. The “Todos pela Saúde” is coordinated by a group of specialists from the health area that guide the decisions to be made to face the virus with scientific basis. Therefore, as a methodological procedure was adopted three ways: a bibliographic research aiming to investigate about the role of the communications from private organizations in the pandemic context; a documentary research of the “All for Health” medias; and the media discourse analysis (Charaudeau, 2005; 2006) and the dialogic aspects (Bakhtin, 2002; 2003) from the material released by the Initiative. As part of the results, it is observed that the strategies used, at least from the point of view of organizational communication, were innovative in producing something new in their narratives, because the organizations adopted a unison speech in favor of fighting the virus without political or commercial interest. Another highlight is the language strategies used, which seek to value the public in the enunciative act. The consequence is an unusual gender in organizational communication, the educative one. Undoubtedly, it is not possible to ignore the marketing objectives from this Initiative. However, it is important to understand organizational communication as a phenomenon of collective construction and reconstruction that influences the individuals, as well as guide the formation of society. This study provides significant reflections about the public impact of organizational communication for the collective interest, especially regarding the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Does the End Justify the Means? The Role of Organizational Communication among Work-from-Home Employees during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

During the first months of 2020, the world, and Italy at an early stage, went through the COVID-19 emergency that had a great impact on individual and collective health, but also on working processes. The mandatory remote working and the constant use of technology for employees raised different implications related to technostress and psycho-physical disorders. This study aimed to detect, in such a period of crisis and changes, the role of organizational communication considering the mediating role of both technostress and self-efficacy, with psycho-physical disorders as outcome. The research involved 530 workers working from home. A Structural Equations Model was estimated, revealing that organizational communication is positively associated with self-efficacy and negatively with technostress and psycho-physical disorders. As mediators, technostress is positively associated with psycho-physical disorders, whereas self-efficacy is negatively associated. As regards mediated effects, results showed negative associations between organizational communication and psycho-physical disorders through both technostress and self-efficacy. This study highlighted the potential protective role of organizational communication that could buffer the effect of technostress and enhance a personal resource, self-efficacy, which is functional to the reduction of psycho-physical disorders. This study contributed to literature underlying the role of communication in the current crisis and consequent reorganization of the working processes.

Can you Speak Covid‐19? Languages and Social Inequality in Management Studies

The Covid‐19 crisis makes the study of languages in management even more relevant and timely than before the crisis. This “black and brown epidemic,” as Joseph Betancourt from Massachusetts General Hospital called it, brings to the fore social divisions and hardship, accelerating and magnifying processes and practices of linguistic inequality with fatal consequences (Goldberg, 2020).

Roadmap for a communication maturity index for organizations—Theorizing, analyzing and developing communication value

This study employed a constitutive (CCO) communication approach to advance the dynamic concept of communication maturity for the purpose of theorizing, analyzing, and developing communication value on an organizational level. A literature review resulted in six theoretical areas related to communication maturity: understanding, function, organization, prerequisites, competence and practices including assessments of communication. These were analyzed in a qualitative comparative case study including 85 key stakeholders from eleven organizations. Findings illustrated the relevance of the theoretical areas to stakeholders’ perceptions of their respective organizations’ communication maturity. A first version of a Communication Maturity Index including four levels of maturity; immature, emerging, established, and mature is proposed. Based on the qualitative analysis, organizations’ communication maturity levels varied from emerging to mature. Findings of this study are limited to participating organizations and interviewed stakeholders. The CMI can be further developed in quantitative studies to investigate the constitutive role of communication in organizations and to be used in practice to develop higher levels of communication maturity.

Measuring the Information Needs of Teachers in their Organizational Context: A Preliminary Adaptation Study for the Portuguese Population

Abstract There has been a dearth of research into the role of organizational communication within the teaching context in general, and in Portugal in particular. One reason for this has been the lack of suitable measurement instruments. The present study is intended to help to rectify this situation by adapting to the Portuguese population two questionnaires that integrate related communicational items: Information I receive now / Information I need to receive, and Information I send now / Information I need to send. These were based on instruments previously validated in the UK and USA, and were adapted to the Portuguese context through a process of translation-retroversion, maintaining the structure and number of items. Subsequently, data were collected on a population of teachers from three schools in Northern Portugal. The instruments revealed robust psychometric qualities as well as readily transferrable comprehension and applicability. They are therefore pertinent instruments that offer real potential for future research. The results also reveal significant differences between the ‘information received’ and the ‘information that needs to be received’, as well as the ‘information sent’ and the ‘information that needs to be sent’, by teachers within their schools. From a practical point of view, this research allows us to rethink organizational communication strategies and thus to contribute to the promotion of approaches capable of enabling diagnosis and intervention in this field. This, in turn, will contribute to the development of strategies that are capable of promoting the well-being and quality of life of teachers.

The Role of Organizational Communication in Structuring Interpersonal Relationships

The efficient workplace communication gains increased importance in the success or failure of an organization, regardless of the specifics of the conducted activities. This study aims to highlight the influence that communication exerts on the structuring of interpersonal relationships. The study was carried out in a banking organization, with the main objective of identifying the possible influence of communication on the importance given to interpersonal relationships by those who worked in a front-office department and by those who worked in a back-office department. The obtained results lead us to propose the organization of an improving intervention plan for situations characterized by pronounced dysfunctions.

The role of organizational communication and participation in reducing job insecurity and its negative association with work-related well-being

The aim of the present study was to investigate how organizational communication and participation influence job insecurity and its relationship with poor work-related well-being. The results of a cross-sectional study of 3881 employees from 20 organizations in Flanders and Brussels (Belgium) showed that organizational communication and participation were negatively related to job insecurity. Furthermore, with one exception, the interaction terms between job insecurity and either organizational communication or participation did not contribute in explaining variance in the outcome variables (i.e. work engagement and need for recovery).
