Self-Help Groups (SHGs) serve as essential vehicles for community empowerment, particularly in regions facing socio-economic challenges. This study aims to provide a comprehensive socio-economic analysis of SHGs, shedding light on their pivotal role in community development. By amalgamating existing literature with empirical research, this investigation delves into how SHGs foster economic independence, social cohesion, and sustainable growth within communities. Through rigorous identification of research gaps and articulation of clear objectives, the study strives to deepen the understanding of SHGs' profound impact on marginalized communities. Findings underscore SHGs as catalysts for socio-economic transformation and pinpoint avenues for enhancing their effectiveness in fostering inclusive development. The insights gleaned from this study hold profound implications for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers, furnishing them with actionable strategies to bolster support for SHGs and magnify their impact on community empowerment. Advocating for a holistic approach to surmounting challenges confronting SHGs, such as limited access to financial services, governance issues, and gender disparities, this research underscores the power of innovation and collaboration in surmounting these hurdles. Ultimately, this study accentuates SHGs' potential to spearhead sustainable development and fortify the resilience of communities.

Embracing The Vanguard Role: Obstacles Faced by Health Cadres in Fulfilling Societal Responsibilities

Background: Health cadres play a crucial role in community development, serving as primary health managers responsible for mobilizing communities and fostering self-help initiatives to improve health outcomes. Despite their significance, challenges such as poor communication leading to missed visits by mothers with toddlers hinder program execution. Understanding and addressing these challenges is essential for establishing a resilient healthcare system that optimizes cadre contributions.Method: A qualitative, phenomenological approach was employed in this study. In-depth interviews were conducted with 11 diverse participants, including the Head of the Public Health Center, the Coordinator of Health Cadres, Health Cadres, and Community Members. Informant selection utilized purposive techniques and snowball sampling, with an interview guide containing open-ended questions as the research instrument. The data analysis followed a descriptive approach based on the Miles and Huberman model.Results: Challenges faced by health cadres varied across regions, encompassing factors such as differing community participation levels, heavy administrative tasks, and conflicts among cadres. Despite these challenges, most cadres exhibited high commitment, motivation, and familial support, mitigating potential issues. Each cadre adopted a unique approach to anticipate and address challenges associated with their roles. Regular coaching from Public Health Centers and implementing simplified administrative systems were identified as potential strategies to enhance cadre performance.

Keberadaan Pondok Pesantren terhadap Masyarakat Sekitar

Pesantren is a traditional Islamic educational institution that serves various functions, such as instilling religious values, fostering creativity, and playing a role in community development. Pesantren also influences the religious attitudes of the surrounding community through quality religious education and the shaping of social attitudes. This research aims to analyze the impact of the presence of Pondok Pesantren Alfattah on the religious attitudes of the surrounding community. Pondok pesantren is an Islamic educational institution with a crucial role in shaping religious and moral values in society. This study discusses Pondok Pesantren Alfattah as the object of study, located in the Buduran Subdistrict. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data is gathered through in-depth interviews with community leaders, pesantren instructors, and several residents living around the pesantren. Additionally, participatory observation is used to understand the day-to-day activities at the pesantren and their impact on the surrounding community. The research results reveal the positive impact of the existence of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) on the religious attitudes of the community within a radius of 0.2-2.2 kilometers from Pondok Pesantren Al-Fattah. Data collection methods involve interviews, observations, and the collection of relevant documents. Data is analyzed inductively to draw general conclusions about the pesantren's impact on the religious attitudes of the surrounding community.

Ethno-Cultural Associations as Shadow States: The Case of Ijebu Province in Western Nigeria, 1900-1960

Extant scholarly works on ethno-cultural associations (ECAs) have done little to provide a robust historical perspective on their roles in community development of British colonies in continental Africa. Thus, this paper is an attempt to fill the gap in the body of knowledge on ethno-cultural associations in colonial Africa with specific reference to Ijebu province in Western Nigeria. The study is aimed at providing a critical historical discourse on the social, economic and political roles of ethno-cultural associations in colonial Ijebu province of Western Nigeria. The study utilises primary and secondary sources. While archival materials and oral interviews provide the primary data in this discourse, books, journal articles and newspaper reports are explored as secondary data. The study found out that the efforts made by the ECAs through several strategies in colonial Ijebuland brought about meaningful development at the community level. We also found out that the ECAs represented indigenous organizational structures developed by the Ijebu people and functioned as community-wide forums for problem identification and prioritization, social and financial resource mobilization and development project implementation at the community level in colonial Ijebu province of Western Nigeria. The study concludes among other things that the ECAs were more or less shadow states and that their efforts must be seen against the background of the failure of the colonial state and the Ijebu Native Administration between 1900 and 1960.

Issues And Challenges in Sustaining Community-Based Societies

Community-Based Societies (CBS) serve multiple roles in community development, such as addressing local concerns, fulfilling communal requirements, and enhancing the overall welfare of the community. The CBS serve as a means of assisting the government in addressing societal problems and fulfilling the needs of particular population groups. The establishment of societies enables the execution of initiatives designed to tackle the difficulties encountered by the specific group, while also promoting improved cooperation between the community and the society. However, there is a growing trend of societies inactivity and dissolution inside numerous establishments. Hence, this study was conducted to address the concerns and obstacles encountered by the societies in sustaining their operational vitality. The present study employs a qualitative research methodology. A total of 17 individual participated in two Focus Group Discussion sessions. The results obtained from thematic analysis using Atlas.Ti were categorized into three distinct themes: ‘the availability of financial resources prerequisite for the implementation of community program’, ‘requires dedication and participation more appropriate for volunteering’ and ‘leadership and personal qualities’. The study's findings indicate that the society plays a crucial role in enhancing community well-being. Nevertheless, it is crucial to address internal issues related to the organization of society expeditiously.

This research discusses public information in the Pademangan Sector Police. Public information is an important part of public administration. Public information is all information that is publicly available and can be accessed by the public freely. This information may include government data, public reports, legal documents, or other relevant content. The importance of public information in society is to encourage transparency, accountability and citizen participation in the democratization process. However, effective management and access to public information also raises issues related to privacy, security and ethics. The use of public information is also to provide open and transparent access to information produced or managed by the government or public institutions to the general public. This aims to enable the public to understand, monitor and participate in government and decision-making processes. Public information enables the public to have sufficient knowledge to evaluate government performance, understand public policy, and play an active role in community development and maintaining government accountability. Therefore, it is important for the government and other agencies, including the police, that provide public information to consider the interests of the community and maintain the basic principles of fair and just public information.

Building a Tourism Village Ecosystem in Rawabogo Tourism Village Development

Tourism plays a crucial role in community development and economic growth, contributing to income distribution, employment opportunities, and investment across various sectors. One form of tourism is village tourism, which serves as an alternative tourism option. However, Rawabogo Village, as a tourist village, has been unable to generate significant results and benefits for the environment and society. It requires a systematic effort to establish a tourism village ecosystem that can drive its development. The objective of this study is to construct a tourism village ecosystem for the development of Rawabogo Tourism Village. This involves examining the components of the tourism village ecosystem to determine the direction for its development, ensuring both economic and non-economic outcomes and benefits. The findings reveal that the current tourism village ecosystem in Rawabogo Village does not support its development adequately due to low community participation and a lack of tourism infrastructure. To address this, the first step is to implement community-based tourism development. This approach aims to encourage active community participation and engagement in managing and advancing Rawabogo Tourism Village. Additionally, future planning should prioritize the provision of necessary infrastructure and tourism facilities to support its growth and success.

Factors Influencing Community Development Professionals Performance at Workplace in Northern Tanzania

This paper focuses on factors influencing CD professionals’ performance in Tanzania with reference to selected local government councils. The role of community development (CD) professionals is basically to assist and facilitate the formulation and implementation of strategic policy interventions by the government to address challenges of service and goods deli23very to communities. However, their roles are not well known among the authorities, which causes their work performance and the factors affecting them to not be clearly known. A sample of 80 respondents, which included community development officers (CDOs) and district community development officers (DCDOs), was used. A key informant interview was used to elicit information from government administrators. CDOs and DCDOs were drawn from seven (7) selected district councils, namely Meru, Arusha, Arusha City, Monduli, Hai, Moshi DC, and Moshi MC. Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire and documentary review, then analyzed using a Likert scale, where statement(s) like most favorable, favorable, neutral, unfavorable, and most unfavorable were used to show the favoritism of the factor(s) influencing CD professionals work performance. With the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), descriptive statistics were produced and presented in tabular form. It was found that budget allocation, motivation package, leadership style, work climate, respect for professionalism, and experts positively or significantly influence CD professionals’ work performance. This paper recommends that improving factors such as budgetary allocation, favorable work climate, leadership style, motivation package, job autonomy, employee/employer relationships, strategic plans, and career development at work will enhance CD workers’ performance and hence improve community well-being.

Social Media and Women Mobilization for Community Development

The study explored the potential of social media for women mobilization to attain community development. Social media has become a very powerful platform that informs and educates its users. Community development is the advancement and progress of a particular community. Women play a vital role in community development. The study seeks to know the effects of social media in mobilizing women as well as examining how social media can help in women empowerment for community development. For the purpose of this study, the Diffusion of Innovation theory was employed to further expatiate the impact of social media for community development. Conclusively, it can be seen as though social media is very essential in mobilizing women for community development. Social media plays a vital role in enhancing community development. However, government should support programs that empower women. It is recommended that Development Agencies and State Ministry of Women Affairs should increase advocacy visits to women in the communities.

Cooperatives play a crucial role in the economic development of communities, especially in rural areas like Desa Namo Bintang, Kecamatan Pancur Baru. Cooperatives can be an effective means to stimulate economic growth and improve the welfare of the community. However, in fulfilling their role, cooperatives face various challenges that need to be overcome in order to provide maximum benefits to the community. This research aims to analyze the role of cooperatives in the economic development of the community in Desa Namo Bintang and identify the challenges faced by cooperatives in achieving their goals. The research methodology employed in this study is field research, including interviews and direct observations of the cooperatives in Desa Namo Bintang. The research identifies several challenges faced by cooperatives in Desa Namo Bintang. Firstly, there is a limitation of capital that affects the cooperative's ability to provide loans to its members. Secondly, the lack of access to a broader market limits the sale of cooperative products. Thirdly, the insufficient involvement of the younger generation in cooperative activities threatens the sustainability of the cooperatives in the future. In addressing these challenges, several recommendations are provided. Firstly, the government needs to provide financial and technical support to cooperatives through mentoring and training programs. Secondly, cooperatives need to innovate in product marketing and expand their networks. Thirdly, cooperatives must actively engage the younger generation by involving them in decision-making processes and providing opportunities for skill development.

Peran Islam dalam Pembangunan Masyarakat Kota Ambon, Provinsi Maluku

The citiy of Ambon, as the capital of Maluku Province, has diverse cultures and religions, including Islam. However, despite the majority of the population being Muslim, there has been limited research on the roles of Islam in Ambon. This study aims to analyze the role of Islam in community development in Ambon, Maluku Province, using a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data was obtained from in-depth analysis of the field and interviews with Islamic community leaders, government officials, and Islamic institutions' administrators in Ambon. In addition, data was collected from relevant documents and archives for the study. The results showed that Islam plays a significant role in community development in Ambon, especially in education and economic empowerment. Islamic educational institutions such as madrasah and pesantren have contributed to improving human resources quality in Ambon. Furthermore, Islam also contributes to infrastructure development and public facilities. Islamic institutions such as social and charitable foundations are active in providing social and humanitarian services to the people of Ambon, especially in emergency situations and natural disasters. However, there are still obstacles in implementing the role of Islam in community development in Ambon. One of them is the lack of coordination and synergy between the government and Islamic institutions in implementing development programs. Additionally, there are still differences in views and understandings among those involved in community development in Ambon. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve coordination and synergy between the government and Islamic institutions in development programs in Ambon.

Internal and external factors related to the Return On Equity (ROE) of Ecuadorian Savings and Credit Cooperatives, Segment 1, Period 2014 – 2020

Savings and Credit Cooperatives in Ecuador play a very important role in the socioeconomic development of communities, productive associations and other niches that are not financially served by traditional private banks, both national and foreign. In fact, the financial inclusion of productive and consumer units in the rural sector - above all - depends on the economic and financial sustainability of these entities. In this context, it is important to know how profitable cooperatives are in Ecuador, identifying those factors, internal and external, that explain such profitability; for this reason, this article aims to analyze the relationship between internal factors such as liquidity, management and solvency indicators; and external factors such as inflation and real GDP with the profitability of cooperatives, segment I, measured through the Return On Equity (ROE). Using econometric techniques, it is found that the country's production level and the generalized price level as external factors, maintain a statistically significant relationship with respect to the ROE of the cooperatives.

‘Come as you are’: place attachment to Islamic third spaces in the United States

Abstract Our global community necessitates the understanding of emergent hybrid typologies of religious spaces and their role in community development. Islamic third spaces are informal socio-religious environments that serve the unmet needs of acculturated generations of US Muslims. Using a place attachment framework, the study illustrates how the social and physical designs of two third spaces curate inclusive and contextually driven experiences for their members. This is done through an exploration of data from twenty-four in-depth semi-structured interviews with attendees of two Islamic third spaces. Findings indicated that, in addition to social and physical features of third spaces, contextual influences affecting US Muslims served a crucial role in participants place attachment. We conclude that attachment to third spaces provides a basis for community development processes, such as social cohesion and integration within the US populous.

Community Empowerment and Social Welfare Development through Social Entrepreneurship

Social entrepreneurship is an alternative approach to improving social welfare through community empowerment programs. In the Indonesian context, Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB) and Cinderella Indonesia Foundation (CIF) have essential roles in improving marginalized communities' social welfare. Considering this, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive study of institutional and leadership dimensions related to the social entrepreneurship approach. This research uses qualitative methods through a case study approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, namely the initiators or founders of YCAB and CIF. Document studies were conducted to understand the organizational profiles. Furthermore, the processing of research data uses triangulation techniques to obtain credible and valid information so that it can be used to reconstruct research thinking ideas related to community and social development from an institutional and leadership perspective in the field of social entrepreneurship. These research findings indicate that Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB) and Cinderella from Indonesia Center have established partnerships with various parties for collaborative advantages. Thus, Social enterprise plays a vital role in community development and mobilizes the capabilities to maintain livelihoods and improve social welfare.

Perceptions of occupational therapists in the United Kingdom on the applicability of the reflective framework for community development in occupational therapy

Introduction: Community development approaches are increasingly used by occupational therapists in response to occupational justice theory, which posits that both individuals and community groups may be denied access to meaningful occupations through societal powers outside their control. Previous research has found that occupational therapists feel insufficiently prepared for a role in community development and tend to use their general skill set, sometimes in combination with generic community development approaches. This study explored whether the reflective framework for community development in occupational therapy is applicable and useful for occupational therapists in the United Kingdom. Methods: A mixed methods approach was used, combining an online questionnaire and focus groups with occupational therapists who already work in community development. Findings were compared with the framework. Findings: The participants recognised most aspects of the Framework in their own practice, but some key aspects such as collaboration with the community at every stage were less prominent. They found the framework applicable to the UK context, particularly for occupational therapists inexperienced in community development practice. Conclusion: This study has highlighted community development practice by occupational therapists in the United Kingdom and concluded that the framework would support them in fulfilling this role more effectively.

In these days, stress is the unfortunate concomitant of school life, concerning both teachers and students, and therefore making the education process more complicated. Stress effects and their consequences such as physical and mental strain and students' behavioral problems are serious stress factors for the participants of the educational system. That is the reason why it is suggested to use such a relaxing method which helps relieving them of their stress and problems. The method presented in the lecture could quickly and easily be fitted into a school class' everyday activities. In addition, this method doesn't only help dealing with stress but plays an important role in community development and may help facilitating the learning process.

Women's Emancipation and Role in Community Development

Currently the whole world recognizes equal rights and obligations for every citizen, including gender issues. However, the reality shows that women are left behind or disadvantaged more than men, including in the fields of education, health, employment, mastery and utilization of science and technology. Although not all elements of society recognize the role of women in development, several regions have recognized the success of women. Not only in developed countries or big cities but also in small towns. This study aims to determine the role of women in community development. There is a group of women who are aware of the positive potential, and the detrimental factors for them in terms of gender. These adverse factors include trafficking in women, prostitution, marginalization of women, feeling of position as second-class citizens compared to men, and views about women playing less political or bureaucratic roles, and so on.

Microgrants as a pathway for community development: A case study exploring impacts, implementation and context

ABSTRACT Microgrant schemes are used in many contexts relevant to community development, but there are few detailed accounts of their operation and effects. This study explored a four-year microgrant scheme in Bristol, UK. The research analyzed 141 awards and collected qualitative and quantitative data on 233 individuals. The research found that the diversity of activities, local embeddedness, skills and capacity development, social connection and volunteering features of the scheme offered routes to community development goals. Microgrant schemes are likely to benefit from designated staff to conduct outreach work, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and provide ongoing support. Coordination with other community development activities enhanced the scheme’s impact while weaknesses in local infrastructure, caused by funding cuts, impeded delivery. Microgrant schemes should be understood as an intervention that complements and works alongside other community development activities. To enhance their role in community development, attention needs to be paid to scheme design, implementation and integration.
