In terms of methodology, this article elaborates on the importance and application of color palette, color difference, and color wheel calculations. Color palette calculation assists designers in grasping the distribution and harmony of colors; color difference calculation utilizes the CIEDE2000 formula to provide an accurate assessment of color differences; color wheel calculation serves as a visual tool for understanding color relationships. Empirical research has verified the effectiveness and practicality of the algorithms, ensuring the reliability of the study. The combination of colors, lighting, and shades in interior design allows for clear interpretations and connotations. Furthermore, the study of color has expanded through the development of modern psychology; influencing fields such as architecture, interior design, urban planning sand marketing. Even Swiss psychologist Carl Jung associated the four temperaments with specific colors: sunshine yellow, earth green, cool blue, and fiery red. Evolution of Hotel Interior Design: Focusing on Environmental Protection, Sustainability, and User Experience

The application of user experience and individual needs in hotel interior design is becoming increasingly important in the modern hospitality industry. This paper explores the evolution of hotel interior design, from the luxury and decorativism of the past to modern simplicity and pragmatism. It discusses the impact of modern design concepts on hotel interior design, including changes in focus on environmental protection, sustainability, and user experience. The paper also examines the design requirements and functional zoning of different areas, and how to improve space utilization and increase user experience and service efficiency through rational space layout and functional zoning. The role of interior design in hospitality activities, its competitive value, and the main trends in hotel design are also discussed. By using quantitative and descriptive research methods. Based on the results of the analysis studied, it can be seen that the role of interior design has a positive and significant effect on the comfort of its users. Good interior design has a surprising impact on the health of one's body. This happens because a person's physiological and psychological health can be affected by the atmosphere and feel of a room.

The role of interior design in promoting a sense of home in people with dementia living in care facilities

With the introduction of the person-centred dementia care model, the interior design of care facilities has increasingly emphasised the need to make people with dementia (PWD) feel at home. The sense of home can improve the quality of life after relocating to long-term care facilities. However, the effectiveness of the current design approach is debatable because it ignores the intrinsic meaning of home. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a new design approach to interior design that brings a sense of home to PWDs through the intrinsic meaning of home. It first defines the intrinsic meaning of home as an ‘intimate relationship’ between people and space, and then proposes a hypothesis that PWDs can re-establish this relationship through bodily habits. The ethnographic case studies verified it and explained how the interior environment influences it. Finally, based on the previous findings, this research develops the design framework and design guidelines.

The Role of Interior Design in Enhancing Happiness and Comfort at Educational Institutions in Saudi Arabia: A Case Study of Girls’ College of Science and Arts in Mahayel Aseer, at King Khalid University

The aim of this research was to evaluate how the quality interior design aspects of the staff office spaces at the Girls’ College of Science and Arts, King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia, affect their happiness, comfort and performance of their duties, and also proposes a solution based on the sciences of the relationship between happiness and interior design. The aim was achieved by carrying out a survey on staff of the college. The participants were selected using a combination of probabilistic and random sampling. The research found that a good number of staff at the college are not happy with their work environments. Further analysis indicated that interior design deficiency is a major cause of unhappiness of staff at the college. The results showed that this may be attributed to three important aspects of quality interior space furniture: insufficiency of furniture and other workspace items; lack of aesthetics, functionality, comfort, color and materials (low quality materials) of furniture and other workspace items; and a lack of sufficient natural lighting being another major issue affecting the quality of natural and artificial lighting in some offices at the college. Participants were also not comfortable with some materials used in the interior space. The study recommends that office spaces should be redesigned to meet the following interior design criteria: appropriateness for the workplace (size, lighting and materials); color and decorations (non-dark colors); and appropriate accessories and tools of work.

Perception of Clients Towards the 2D and 3D Types of Design Presentation of the Projects in Interior Design

Interior designers own an exceptional ability to engender novel ideas and solutions. It is important to express or convey this idea to clients effectively so that clients can understand the project. Designers and architects validated that they have two ways to express their ideas or communicate with their clients: 2-D and 3-D presentations. Clients have their own experience and perception of these presentations, based on a few elements that they perceive from this presentation. This paper compares 2-D and 3-D presentations, as well as the elements that shape the client's experiences and the propensity towards 2-D and 3-D presentations. The study attempted to investigate a method for perceiving and persuading clients to accept a creative idea without wasting time. The outcomes of the study can be utilized by the designers and institutes to focus more on this skill, as it plays an undeniable role in interior design as it saves them time and money.

Shaping health and well-being in a COVID era: the role of design

PurposeIn this study, an interdisciplinary research team at a Midwest US University collaborated with a local county to co-envision interior design strategies for five county buildings: three libraries and two government buildings to reduce in-person contact in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThe authors' interdisciplinary team used a community-based participatory design process which focused on creating consensus, while seeking out divergent perspectives among stakeholders to serve the needs of diverse users. The design process involved meetings with stakeholders remotely and analyzing survey results from the target occupants collected by the county.FindingsThe county with a population of 550,321 is the second most populous and diverse county in the state. The authors' collaborative efforts resulted in short-and long-term recommendations for the interior space planning to promote health, safety, and well-being for the county's diverse user groups of young children, adults, elderly and vulnerable populations. The short-term recommendations focus on service redesigns that can be implemented as the state shifts out of the stay-at-home order and the community returns to the county's public-facing buildings. The long-term recommendations focus on experiences and design strategies that can be carried forward to future-proof buildings in a post-COVID era and provide models for other counties.Research limitations/implicationsOne limitation is the dynamic nature of how rapidly our team responded to a critical need in the community to develop tangible interior design solutions during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic for the county. The solutions we proposed were based on the scientific evidence available earlier on during that phase of the pandemic. The authors hope to conduct further studies in the future and conduct assessments of our rapid design responses.Practical implicationsThis paper documents a dynamic experience during a once in a lifetime pandemic and thus contributes to further the body of knowledge about the role of interior design in shaping health and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.Originality/valueThe article presents a timely interdisciplinary response to the COVID-19 pandemic to promote community safety inside public buildings at the county. The interior design solutions reflected intensive literature reviews, critical space planning, innovative use of lighting, and thoughtful furniture/material selections.

The modern interior decoration blends the cultures of various regions and is full of ethnic styles. With China’s reform and opening up, decorative elements with Chinese characteristics have been on the world stage. Based on computer virtual reality technology, this article discusses the application of Chinese decorative elements in interior design.

Illumination‐Guided Furniture Layout Optimization

AbstractLighting plays a very important role in interior design. However, in the specific problem of furniture layout recommendation, illumination has been either neglected or addressed with empirical or very simplified solutions. The effectiveness of a particular layout in its expected task performance can be greatly affected by daylighting and artificial illumination in a non‐trivial manner. In this paper, we introduce a robust method for furniture layout optimization guided by illumination constraints. The method takes into account all dominant light sources, such as sun light, skylighting and fixtures, while also being able to handle movable light emitters. For this task, the method introduces multiple generic illumination constraints and physically‐based light transport estimators, operating alongside typical geometric design guidelines, in a unified manner. We demonstrate how to produce furniture arrangements that comply with important safety, comfort and efficiency illumination criteria, such as glare suppression, under complex light‐environment interactions, which are very hard to handle using empirical or simplified models.

VOLUMETRIC COLOR APPROACH AS APPLICATION OF VISUAL COLOR IN SPACE ZONING CONCEPT

In the development of interior design, many are applied to create an atmosphere that can create aesthetics and convenience for users. A design can develop through interior elements, especially through color and shape. In a space design with various functions it creates its own zoning at various activities. The emphasis on zoning can be developed through an interior design with the concept of distinct space, by applying various elements that can distinguish space, such as color elements. Volumetric Color approach which uses colors to create a volume of space in an area by using the same color in all interior elements. The difference in color and shape of space creates zoning and function in space to be more specific. In addition to zoning, the use of different and striking colors can provide vocal points and aesthetics in space. The purpose of this descriptive-analysis research is to make a systematic, factual and accurate description, picture, or painting of a case study producing a space with attractive volumetric colors, and as an identity in space. The results of this study can play a role in interior design in the use of color not only as aesthetics of the space, also can provide convenience for users to recognize areas that exist with different functions. In addition, the use of colors in accordance with the function of the area can also be adjusted to affect the psychological space that can have a positive impact on space.

The role of interior design in the development of aquatic museums An Indus

Museums have become a cultural mission and multiple functions, including scientific, cultural, social, educational, behavioral and others, and in the modern era has become one of the most prominent architectural elements of the century where architects and constructionists find a great opportunity to show their artistic vision and academic study that fit the style displayed, has been designed and built many of public aquatic museums around the world during the last three decades. The study of the interior design of aquatic museums and its contents and its relation to technological development on the interior design of these museums, and to make the best use of technological development, and to achieve all the requirements of the building from the provision of architectural exterior and fulfill the design requirements of the interior.

Numerical analysis of the diffusion effects of combustible gas leak on the leak location

In this paper, using the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equation and the turbulence modelling with the correction of buoyancy effects, we get the diffusion characteristics of different positions after the leakage and analyze the results under the influence of wind speed and the component transport model, which base on numerical calculation of flammable gas’s leakage and diffusion at different positions indoor. The results show that different hazardous areas are formed after the gas leaked out and diffused at different locations. The higher position indoor, the smaller explosive areas are formed without wind influence outside when leaking hole and exit are in opposite side; meanwhile the closer the leakage hole located in exit downwind side, the higher wind speed and the faster the gas diffused, the less hazardous area are formed. This paper plays an important role in interior design of gas piping systems.

Stylistic indoor colour design via Bayesian network

Colour plays an important role in interior design. A good colour scheme can usually convey some particular design philosophy and define a specific household style. Given the planar shape and functional type of a room, and a set of furniture in which a subset of furniture have been specified colours, this paper proposes a data-driven approach to automatically assign colours to the rest of the room and furniture items such that the whole colour tone is harmonious. We first train a Bayesian network to inherently encode the dependency between decorative styles and furniture colours, as well as the relevancy between furniture colours themselves, using a real interior design dataset. An optimal colourization is then obtained by maximizing the conditional joint probability of the colour assignment. This process encourages frequently used colours and punishes any deviation from the specified colours. To increase the diversity of colours, we design a strategy to jitter colours assigned to furniture items. In addition, a colour transfer scheme is adopted to support the mapping of arbitrary textures while sustaining the whole colour tone. A series of experiments demonstrate that our approach is effective and able to generate practical results.

Intelligent interiors can become immersive sensory environments that combine the advantages of automation and modern technology with sensory feedback and materiality. The advances in hardware, system design, and software made enable to achieve this vision. In this world, physical objects and spaces are linked to the digital world and information about the physical world can be used to support human functionality and experience. In this paper, the vision of intelligent space will be explained and the innovations that helped to realize these spaces will be introduced. The social and psychological impacts of the future technologies while designing interior space will be discussed. The changing way we work and live and interfering boundaries of the space titles were asked by the way of a short questionnaire to the Interior Design Students who have the seminar about Intelligent and Interactive Spaces this semester, so their knowledge about these spaces and computer technologies are enough to comment the questions. This will give us the idea of future’s interior designers’ new role in these environments. These finding will give us a supporting knowledge about intelligent or thinking spaces and their impacts on the roles of interior designers. Planning to Learn: The Role of Interior Design in Educational Settings

This design case is about re-engaging with the fundamental role of the built environment in order to support the educational process and overall learning experience in a private Catholic school. Advanced level interior design students were provided an opportunity to work with a school whose administrator had requested assistance in setting priorities for needed changes to their grade school facility. The current building presented limitations in reflecting the high quality curriculum teachers delivered to their students, and they sought ideas for improvements that would support their goals. The design case describes a sequence of pedagogically based steps that were strategically employed through a service-learning project to help students explore user experience, apply theory, and develop design solutions using an evidence-based research framework. The goal was to plan learning spaces for pre-kindergarten through third grade school children. The interior design students first explored the theoretical perspectives of early childhood education and the role of the built environment as a significant component of the educational process. They then analyzed the existing conditions to create priorities for change, verifying this information with multiple user-groups. A comprehensive design program was developed from this information. Finally, student teams prepared design solutions that visually represented potential answers to the identified problems. Student, faculty, and client perceptions of the design process are presented in text and audio formats. Outcomes of the case study are discussed in the context of the benefits to the various user groups and participants, as well as the value of returning to the fundamentals of the educational experience through the human perceptual and physical interactions with the built environment.

“Renovating an Industry”: The Expanding Role of Interior Design in Times of Recession

ABSTRACTThis article examines the Home Planning Project, an interior design undertaking that developed in response to the Great Depression. Spearheaded by New York City's Henry Street Settlement and the federal Works Progress Administration's (WPA) interior design staff, the Home Planning Project was a consumer education initiative that provided guidance to public housing tenants on how to efficiently and comfortably arrange their apartments to better suit their individual needs. By stressing design's responsiveness to different tenants' needs, from single-family homes to multi-generational homes, the Home Planning Project underscored the social aspects of the developing interior design field. In particular, the project highlighted how interior design knowledge could be utilized to enhance the physical and social well being of clients regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds. Today, as designers find new ways to work within declining economies and bring good design within the reach of a larger and less affluent clientele, the social welfare focus of the Home Planning Project recalls a critical tradition in the history of the interior design field.
