The role of professional experience in the entrepreneurial intention in higher education

This study analysis the entrepreneurial intention (EI) of 236 students attending higher education considering a heterogeneous sample of students with diverse profiles and work experience, which allows exploring its role in EI. The findings confirm that understanding EI requires considering a multidimensional model that includes attitude toward entrepreneurship, perceived entrepreneurial capacity, perceived social norms, and entrepreneurship education (EE). Furthermore, students with professional experience manifest a higher EI and a higher perception of the role that EE can play in the process of establishing a start-up.

A Literature Review for Understanding Entrepreneurial Intention: Call for Study on Potential Research Areas

This paper examined research studies to understand the antecedents and impact of entrepreneurial intention (EI) on the SME's growth. The literature review revealed that the focus of previous studies' discussion on entrepreneurial intention (EI) was mostly focused on the Western, Middle, and Far East countries. Petite empirical evidence is noticeable in Africa and Asia. Therefore, the role of entrepreneurial intention (EI) and the need to understand its impact on firms' value creation is yet to be explored exhaustively. In addition to it, empirical studies mostly revealed gaps in the selection of the right respondents, stages of venture creation, and the appropriate theory selection. Subsequently, results are frequently inconsistent and demand future studies to address gaps, particularly in the Asian context in countries like Pakistan to address the SMEs' sustainability issues. For that purpose, this paper highlighted research gaps in Pakistani SMEs and developed the urge to explore EI to rethink the nascent research angles on EI development. Thus, this paper is a wake-up call for empirical studies to assess the impact of EI in Pakistani SMEs where studies of this kind are rarely found in the literature. The Impact of Contingencies on Entrepreneurship Education Outcomes

The results of Entrepreneurship Education (EE) impact research have been equivocal, and one suggested explanation is the influence of contingencies such as the types of learning experiences, gender, and field of study. In this paper we aim to answer the question of which contingencies shape the outcome of EE by examining the outcome variables of entrepreneurial intentions (EI) and creative self-efficacy (CSE). Utilizing a quasi-experimental pre-post survey design, we surveyed 209 students from three universities who were exposed to three different learning experiences: writing a business plan, achieving proof-of-concept, and achieving proof-of-business. Through multi-value qualitative comparative analysis, we found six unique combinations associated with high levels of EI and CSE, respectively, after a learning experience. High EI and CSE are both associated with developing proof-of-concept and proof-of-business, but not with writing a business plan. Also, students’ fields of study play a role in high levels of EI regardless of the learning experience, while students’ prior work experience seems to play a role in EI and CSE.

Signifying the Effect of Relational and Experiential Cognitive Styles on Entrepreneurial Behavior: A Mediated Moderated Model.

This study investigates the influence of rational and experiential cognitive styles on entrepreneurial behavior. Specifically, the moderating role of entrepreneurial intention and informal learning has been contemplated. Data has been accumulated from 320 undergraduate students of universities situated in Pakistan. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and AMOS have been executed to examine the data and conduct statistical techniques. After confirming the validity and reliability of data and scale, results have signified that both cognitive styles significantly positively impact entrepreneurial behavior. Moreover, informal learning moderates the relationship between entrepreneurial intention and cognitive styles (rational and experiential). Meanwhile, entrepreneurial intention mediates the relationship between cognitive styles (rational and experiential) and entrepreneurial behavior emphatically.

Entrepreneurial Intentions of Undergraduate Students: Mediating Role of Perceived Feasibility

This study aims to test several Krueger models that have not been carried out by Esfandiar. In this model, the variable perceived feasibility is a mediator but Esfandiar did not test the variable so that the feasibility variable was used as a mediator in this research update. Data was collected using an online questionnaire (Google Form) which was given directly to undergraduate students at Sebelas Maret University. The research method used is PLS with questionnaire analysis using WarpPLS version 7.0. The results show that the mediation of feasibility perception plays a partial role in entrepreneurial intentions, meaning that students' perceptions of eligibility will directly influence entrepreneurial desires to become entrepreneurs. When students feel that the entrepreneurial profession is worthy of student perceptions, it will arouse students' entrepreneurial desires. In addition, when students see the entrepreneurial profession as feasible, it will increase students' self-efficacy and collective-efficacy which in turn can generate entrepreneurial desires.

Impact of dark tetrad personality traits on nascent entrepreneurial behavior: the mediating role of entrepreneurial intention

The impact of negative personality traits on entrepreneurial intention and entrepreneurial behavior has become a research focus in the field of entrepreneurship. This study aimed to identify the influence of dark tetrad personality traits on the nascent entrepreneurial behavior and the mediating role of entrepreneurial intention. This study used partial least square-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypotheses on a sample of 347 undergraduate and postgraduate university students from China. The results of this study revealed that narcissism, psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and sadism have a positive and significant influence on nascent entrepreneurial behavior and entrepreneurial intention, which significantly partially mediates the relationship between dark tetrad and nascent entrepreneurial behavior. The finding of the study implies China’s higher education and policymakers to unlock the hidden potential of its youth. This study contributes to the emerging literature on psychology and entrepreneurship and provides evidence that individuals with a high level of dark tetrad are more likely to be involved in entrepreneurial action.

Predictors of Entrepreneurial Orientation: Comparative Assessment of the Effects of Personality and Environment

This study aims to understand whether the personal traits or the environmental conditions play a more significant role in entrepreneurial intentions. Since intentions are strong predictors of the behaviors, it is important to understand whether the former or the latter factor has a stronger impact on entrepreneurial dispositions. In order to understand the complex relations between entrepreneurial intentions, personality traits, and perceived environmental conditions, total number of 229 economics and business administration students at Anadolu University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences were surveyed. Results of the statistical analysis have revealed that although the majority of the individual personal traits and contextual factors are perceived as strong predictors of entrepreneurial intentions, when considered as separate holistic structures; personal traits are better predictors for entrepreneurial intentions compared to contextual factors in Turkey.

A Measure of Entrepreneurial Behavior of University Students: A Theory of Planned Behavior Approach

Higher education institutions should be able to change the mindset of students who are not only as job seekers, but also job creators especially when educated unemployment in Indonesia increases every year. Entrepreneurship is one solution in tackling unemployment and poverty which will encourage national economic growth. This study examines the effect of self-efficacy and contextual environment on entrepreneurial behavior with entrepreneurial intention as an intervening variable using Theory of Planned Behavior. The subjects of this study were Semarang State University students who owned a business and joined the UNNES Student Entrepreneurship Center (UNSEC) and Himpunan Pengusaha Muda Indonesia Perguruan Tinggi (HIPMI PT) Semarang State University totaling 310 students. The results showed a direct relationship between self-efficacy and contextual environment towards entrepreneurial behavior and indirect relationships through entrepreneurial intentions. It was proved by the moderating role of entrepreneurial intention in facilitating the relationship of self-efficacy and contextual environment to student entrepreneurial behavior in accordance with the Theory of Planned Behavior. Future studies can use elements of social and demographic psychology that are more complete and involve a wider population.

Religiosity and Entrepreneurial Intention

Religion and economic activities relationship is an evolving research topic in economics. Secular world-view usually put a side religiosity as just one of non-economic factors. However, religiosity is an important individual characteristic that has significant influence in shaping daily life decisions. Entrepreneurial intentions among undergraduates students need deeper study in order to reveal entrepreneurial intention formation model, intention determinant variables, how those variables interact each other, and how individual religiosity affect intention formation process and intention strength level. Based on Structural Equation Model, personal attitudes and social norms are the most important variables influencing entrepreneurial intentions, besides perceived behavioral control. These three variables are the most important entrepreneurial intentions determinant variable that direcly are influenced by personal beliefs about these factors. Religiosity plays an important role in entrepreneurial intention. Empirical test show that religious student group has stronger personal attitude towards entrepreneurial activity dan perceived behavior control compared to irreligious group.DOI: 10.15408/etk.v16i2.4963

Entrepreneurial intentions of information technology students: the theory of planned behaviour, the role of gender and education

Entrepreneurial activity and self-employment is considered a major motor of innovation, and economic development. Entrepreneurial intention, introduced in the theory of planned behaviour (TPB), is considered a major predictor of actual entrepreneurial career. Statistical regression analysis was used for the empirical examination of the entrepreneurial intentions of information technology (IT) students, in order to identify possible points of intervention, in the direction of fostering the entrepreneurial spirit. The contribution of the TPB antecedents was evaluated, along with the effect of gender and entrepreneurial course. Personal attitudes and perceived behavioural control proved to play a vital role in entrepreneurial intentions, whereas social norm had no significant effect. Female students showed reduced intentions towards entrepreneurship, in comparison to their male counterparts. Finally the role of entrepreneurship course attendance was not significant. These findings have considerable implications for educators, curriculum designers and policy makers.
