Primary Prevention Strategy for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Their Risk Factors: The Role of Intestinal Microbiota

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. These conditions have numerous health consequences and significantly impact patients’ lifestyles. Effective long-term treatment is essential since NCDs are irreversible. Therefore, primary healthcare must be both exclusive and of the highest quality, ensuring comprehensive care. The primary goal should be to improve quality of life with a focus on patients, families, and communities, as most of these diseases can be prevented and controlled, although not cured. Several factors have been linked to individual health, including social, cultural, and economic aspects, lifestyle, and certain environmental factors, including work, that can have positive or negative effects. More of these variables may contribute to the onset of NCDs, which are defined by their chronic nature, propensity for prolongation, and generally slow rate of progression. Examples of NCDs include hypertension, type 2 diabetes (T2D), dyslipidemia, and fatty liver disease linked to metabolic dysfunction. The onset of these diseases has been associated with an imbalance in certain microbial niches, such as the gut, which hosts billions of microorganisms performing multiple metabolic functions, such as the production of metabolites like bile acids (BAs), short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO). Therefore, lifestyle changes and personal habits can significantly impact the gut microbiota (GM), potentially preventing chronic diseases associated with metabolism. NCDs are highly prevalent worldwide, prompting increased attention to strategies for modifying the intestinal microbiota (IM). Approaches such as probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, and fecal transplantation (FMT) have demonstrated improvements in the quality of life for individuals with these conditions. Additionally, lifestyle changes and the adoption of healthy habits can significantly impact IM and may help prevent chronic diseases related to metabolism. Intestinal microbiota in children with bronchial asthma

Background. Intestinal microbiota is one of the most important factors determining the state of human health, including its influence on the immunological mechanisms regulating the development of allergic diseases in childhood. The role of intestinal microbiota and the gut – lung axis in the development of bronchial asthma (BA) is an important area of research.Aim. To analyze the taxonomic composition of intestinal microbiota in children with BA using 16S rRNA gene sequencing.Materials and methods. The study included patients with BA (n = 50, mean age 10.34 ± 2.99 years) and a group of apparently healthy individuals (n = 49, mean age 10.3 ± 2.8 years). For all patients, medical history was taken, and physical examination and stool test were performed. Patients with BA were assessed for the level of total and specific immunoglobulin (Ig) E and underwent spirometry. The microbiota composition was analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing with subsequent bioinformatic and statistical analysis.Results. Significant differences in the composition of the intestinal microbiota (beta diversity) and a decrease in taxonomic diversity (alpha diversity) were found in patients with BA compared to healthy controls. The intestinal microbiota of patients with BA was characterized by an increase in the abundance of Bacteroides, Parabacteroides, Lachnospira, Roseburia, Akkermansia, Anaerostipes, Sutterella, Odoribacter, Phascolarctobacterium, Butyricimonas, as well as unclassified bacteria from the Rikenellaceae families. The intestinal microbiota of children without BA was characterized by greater abundance of bacteria from Blautia, Bifidobacterium, Dorea, Ruminococcus, Streptococcus, Eubacterium, Acinetobacter, Collinsella, Lactococcus, Catenibacterium genera and unclassified bacteria from the Clostridiaceae and Coriobacteriaceae families. Significant differences in the quantitative abundance of bacteria were revealed depending on the type of sensitization, the level of total IgE, and the value of FEV1.Conclusion. The results obtained indicate the differences in the intestinal microbiota composition in children with BA and healthy children.

Gut microbiome and metabolites mediate the benefits of caloric restriction in mice after acute kidney injury

The role of gut microbiome in acute kidney injury (AKI) is increasing recognized. Caloric restriction (CR) has been shown to enhance the resistance to ischemia/reperfusion injury to the kidneys in rodents. Nonetheless, it is unknown whether intestinal microbiota mediated CR protection against ischemic/reperfusion-induced injury (IRI) in the kidneys. Herein, we showed that CR ameliorated IRI-elicited renal dysfunction, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and inflammation, along with enhanced intestinal barrier function. In addition, gut microbiota depletion blocked the favorable effects of CR in AKI mice. 16S rRNA and metabolomics analysis showed that CR enriched the gut commensal Parabacteroides goldsteinii (P. goldsteinii) and upregulated the level of serum metabolite dodecafluorpentan. Intestinal colonization of P. goldsteinii and oral administration of dodecafluorpentan showed the similar beneficial effects as CR in AKI mice. RNA sequencing and experimental data revealed that dodecafluorpentan protected against AKI-induced renal injury by antagonizing oxidative burst and NFκB-induced NLRP3 inflammasome activation. In addition, we screened and found that Hamaudol improved renal insufficiency by boosting the growth of P. goldsteinii. Our results shed light on the role of intestinal microbiota P. goldsteinii and serum metabolites dodecafluorpentan in CR benefits to AKI.

The role of intestinal microbiota in physiologic and body compositional changes that accompany CLA-mediated weight loss in obese mice

ObjectiveObesity continues to be a major problem, despite known treatment strategies such as lifestyle modifications, pharmaceuticals, and surgical options, necessitating the development of novel weight loss approaches. The naturally occurring fatty acid, 10,12 conjugated linoleic acid (10,12 CLA), promotes weight loss by increasing fat oxidation and browning of white adipose tissue, leading to increased energy expenditure in obese mice. Coincident with weight loss, 10,12 CLA also alters the murine gut microbiota by enriching for microbes that produce short chain fatty acids (SCFAs), with concurrent elevations in fecal butyrate and plasma acetate. MethodsTo determine if the observed microbiota changes are required for 10,12 CLA-mediated weight loss, adult male mice with diet-induced obesity were given broad-spectrum antibiotics (ABX) to perturb the microbiota prior to and during 10,12 CLA-mediated weight loss. Conversely, to determine whether gut microbes were sufficient to induce weight loss, conventionally-raised and germ-free mice were transplanted with cecal contents from mice that had undergone weight loss by 10,12 CLA supplementation. ResultsWhile body weight was minimally modulated by ABX-mediated perturbation of gut bacterial populations, adult male mice given ABX were more resistant to the increased energy expenditure and fat loss that are induced by 10,12 CLA supplementation. Transplanting cecal contents from donor mice losing weight due to oral 10,12 CLA consumption into conventional or germ-free mice led to improved glucose metabolism with increased butyrate production. ConclusionsThese data suggest a critical role for the microbiota in diet-modulated changes in energy balance and glucose metabolism, and distinguish the metabolic effects of orally delivered 10,12 CLA from cecal transplantation of the resulting microbiota.

The Prevention of Viral Infections: The Role of Intestinal Microbiota and Nutritional Factors.

Viral infections pose significant global challenges due to their rapid transmissibility. Therefore, preventing and treating these infections promptly is crucial to curbing their spread. This review focuses on the vital link between nutrition and viral infections, underscoring how dietary factors influence immune system modulation. Malnutrition, characterized by deficiencies in essential nutrients such as vitamins A, C, D, E, and zinc, can impair the immune system, thereby increasing vulnerability to viral infections and potentially leading to more severe health outcomes that complicate recovery. Additionally, emerging evidence highlights the role of commensal microbiota in immune regulation, which can affect hosts' susceptibility to infections. Specific dietary components, including bioactive compounds, vitamins, and probiotics, can beneficially modify gut microbiota, thus enhancing immune response and offering protection against viral infections. This review aims to elucidate the mechanisms by which dietary adjustments and gut microbiota impact the pathogenesis of viral infections, with a particular focus on strengthening the immune system.

Effect of Trace Element Selenium on the Intestinal Microbial Community in Nude Mice with Colorectal Cancer.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide. The role of intestinal microbiota in carcinogenesis has also become an important research topic, and CRC is closely related to the intestinal microbiota. Selenium-containing compounds have attracted more attention as anticancer drugs as they can have minimal side effects. The purpose of this study was to determine and compare the effect of sodium selenite and selenomethionine on the microbial communities of nude mice with CRC. A CRC ectopic tumorigenesis model was established by subcutaneously injecting HCT116 cells into nude mice. The mice were then intraperitoneally injected with sodium selenite and selenomethionine for 24 days to regulate their intestinal microbiota. Compared with sodium selenite, selenomethionine resulted in a greater reduction in the richness and diversity of intestinal microbiota in nude mice with CRC, and the richness and diversity were closer to healthy levels. Selenomethionine also regulated a wider variety of flora. Additionally, sodium selenite and selenomethionine produced different microorganisms, changed function and metabolic pathways in the intestinal microbiota. Both sodium selenite and selenomethionine have certain effects on restoring the intestinal microbial diversity in nude mice with CRC, and the effect of selenomethionine is better than that of sodium selenite.

New Mediators in the Crosstalk between Different Adipose Tissues.

Adipose tissue is a multifunctional organ that regulates many physiological processes such as energy homeostasis, nutrition, the regulation of insulin sensitivity, body temperature, and immune response. In this review, we highlight the relevance of the different mediators that control adipose tissue activity through a systematic review of the main players present in white and brown adipose tissues. Among them, inflammatory mediators secreted by the adipose tissue, such as classical adipokines and more recent ones, elements of the immune system infiltrated into the adipose tissue (certain cell types and interleukins), as well as the role of intestinal microbiota and derived metabolites, have been reviewed. Furthermore, anti-obesity mediators that promote the activation of beige adipose tissue, e.g., myokines, thyroid hormones, amino acids, and both long and micro RNAs, are exhaustively examined. Finally, we also analyze therapeutic strategies based on those mediators that have been described to date. In conclusion, novel regulators of obesity, such as microRNAs or microbiota, are being characterized and are promising tools to treat obesity in the future.

The role of intestinal microbiota in the development of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease risk

The aim of the study: to summarize the study results on the interaction between intestinal microbiota and the human body in terms of the risk for dyslipidemia and cardiovascular system diseases. Material and methods. A descriptive and comparative study was conducted based on the analysis of scientific literature focused on the role of intestinal microbiota in the occurrence of dyslipidemia and the development of cardiovascular diseases. The following research methods were used: search, comparative, analysis of scientific literature, generalization, synthesis. Results. Gut microbiota plays an important role in maintaining health, and its pathology contributes to the risk for cardiovascular diseases. In some cases, monitoring the intestinal microbiota and the preventive use of pre- and probiotics can reduce the risk for developing cardiovascular system diseases. Conclusions. It has been found that trimethylamine-N-oxide, a microbiota-dependent metabolite, is the first of many existing bacterial products with the proven role in the development of cardiovascular system diseases.

The role of intestinal microbiota in the development of dysfunction of the biliary system in children

Objective: to study the state of the intestinal and biliary microbiota in children with intestinal and gallbladder dysfunction and to determine the features of the component composition of the biliary microbiota. Methods: We examined 20 children with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The presence of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) syndrome was determined (using a hydrogen breath test with lactulose), microbial markers of the intestinal and biliary microbiota (using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry). We also performed microscopy of bile (phase-contrast light microscopy) obtained through duodenal intubation. Results: In all children with IBS, SIBO was verified in the small intestine, with insufficiency of the ileocecal valve in half of them, associated with hypomotor dyskinesia of the gallbladder. Microscopy of the bile revealed a large number of crystals and leukocytes. A study of microbial markers of intestinal and biliary microbiota in all children with IBS and SIBO revealed excessive bacterial associative growth of gram-negative opportunistic bacteria in combination with viruses of the Herpes family. An increase in the level of lipopolysaccharides (2 times higher than normal) and a deficiency of microbial markers of the main groups of microorganisms (anaerobic bacteria) responsible for metabolization processes in the enterohepatic circulation (plasmalogen less than 50 μg/ml) were recorded. Excessive growth of 28 species of opportunistic bacteria was detected in bile in diagnostically significant concentrations associated with hypomotor dysfunction of the gallbladder and lithogenicity of bile. Conclusion: A violation of the biliary microbiota was established with an increase in the proportion of gram-negative opportunistic bacteria, the spectrum of which was close to that of the intestine and their association with intestinal and biliary dyskinesia

Effects of dietary copper intake on blood lipids in women of childbearing age and the potential role of gut microbiota.

Copper (Cu) is a vital trace element involved in numerous physiological processes, including glycolysis and lipid metabolism. Imbalances in Cu homeostasis can contribute to various diseases. However, current research on the impact of Cu on lipid metabolism has yielded inconsistent findings. Moreover, studies investigating the effects of dietary Cu intake on blood lipids among women of childbearing age are rare. Understanding of this relationship could enhance lipid management, given that most women obtain Cu through their diet. Additionally, the gut microbiota may play a role in this process. This study aims to investigate the effects of dietary Cu intake on blood lipids in women of childbearing age and to analyze the role of gut microbiota in this process. This study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to conduct a preliminary analysis of the correlation between dietary Cu levels and blood lipid indicators in women of childbearing age. Subsequently, an on-site research was conducted to further investigate this relationship, followed by animal experiments to verify the effect of different Cu doses on blood lipid levels. Multiple linear regression models, ANOVA, XGBOOST were employed to analyze the impact of Cu on blood lipids and the role of intestinal microbiota in this process. In the population study, the NHANES results were consistent with on-site findings. The TG, and TC levels in women with childbearing were increased with higher dietary Cu intake. Animal experiments have shown that as Cu intake increases, TC levels increase. Furthermore, when the Cu intake reached 8 mg/day (the recommended dietary Cu intake limit of China, RDI), the TG levels in the research animals decrease, alongside a reduction in the abundance of Weissella cibaria (probiotics related to lipid metabolism), and the levels of LPS and IL-6 increase. The blood lipid levels of women of childbearing age increase with higher dietary Cu intake. RDI of 8 mg/day for women of childbearing age in China may need to be appropriately reduced. Regulating the gut microbiota, especially by increasing the abundance of Weissella cibaria may be an effective intervention for blood lipids.

Opportunistic pathogens increased and probiotics or short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria decreased in the intestinal microbiota of pneumonia inpatients during SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant epidemic.

The global pandemic of COVID-19 has been over four years, and the role of intestinal microbiota in the occurrence and development of COVID-19 needs to be further clarified. During the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant in China, we analyzed the intestinal microbiome in fecal samples from inpatients with pneumonia and normal individuals in January 2023. The microbiota composition, alpha diversity, beta diversity, differential microbial community, co-occurrence networks, and functional abundance were analyzed. The results showed significant differences in microbiota composition between the two groups. In pneumonia group, the abundance of Bifidobacterium, Blautia, Clostridium, and Coprococcus decreased, while the abundance of Enterococcus, Lactobacillus, and Megamonas increased. Through LEfSe analysis, 37 marker microbiota were identified in pneumonia group. Co-occurrence network analysis found that Lachnospiraceae was critical for the interaction of intestinal microbiota, and the anti-inflammatory bacteria Blautia was negatively correlated with the pro-inflammatory bacteria Ruminococcus. Functional prediction found the up-regulation of steroid biosynthesis, geraniol degradation, and mRNA surveillance pathway in pneumonia group. In conclusion, opportunistic pathogens increased and probiotics, or short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria, decreased in the intestinal microbiota of pneumonia inpatients during the Omicron epidemic. Blautia could be used as a probiotic in the treatment of pneumonia patients in the future.

Maternal-Foetal/Infant Interactions-Gut Microbiota and Immune Health.

In recent years, the number of scientific publications on the role of intestinal microbiota in shaping human health, as well as the occurrence of intestinal dysbiosis in various disease entities, has increased dynamically. However, there is a gap in comprehensively understanding the factors influencing a child's gut microbiota. This review discusses the establishment of gut microbiota and the immunological mechanisms regulating children's microbiota, emphasising the importance of prioritising the development of appropriate gut microbiota in a child from the planning stages of pregnancy. The databases PubMed, Web of Sciences, Cochrane, Scopus and Google Scholar were searched to identify relevant articles. A child's gut microbiota composition is influenced by numerous factors, such as diet during pregnancy, antibiotic therapy, the mother's vaginal microbiota, delivery method, and, later, feeding method and environmental factors. During pregnancy, the foetus naturally acquires bacterial strains from the mother through the placenta, thereby shaping the newborn's immune system. Inappropriate maternal vaginal microbiota may increase the risk of preterm birth. Formula-fed infants typically exhibit a more diverse microbiota than their breastfed counterparts. These factors, among others, shape the maturation of the child's immune system, impacting the production of IgA antibodies that are central to cellular humoral immune defence. Further research should focus on identifying specific microbiota-immune system interactions influencing a child's immune health and developing personalised treatment strategies for immune-related disorders.

Causal relationship between gut microbiota and risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease: a genetic correlation and bidirectional Mendelian randomization study.

Numerous observational studies have identified a linkage between the gut microbiota and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, a clear causative association between the gut microbiota and GERD has yet to be definitively ascertained, given the presence of confounding variables. The genome-wide association study (GWAS) pertaining to the microbiome, conducted by the MiBioGen consortium and comprising 18,340 samples from 24 population-based cohorts, served as the exposure dataset. Summary-level data for GERD were obtained from a recent publicly available genome-wide association involving 78 707 GERD cases and 288 734 controls of European descent. The inverse variance-weighted (IVW) method was performed as a primary analysis, the other four methods were used as supporting analyses. Furthermore, sensitivity analyses encompassing Cochran's Q statistics, MR-Egger intercept, MR-PRESSO global test, and leave-one-out methodology were carried out to identify potential heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy. Ultimately, a reverse MR assessment was conducted to investigate the potential for reverse causation. The IVW method's findings suggested protective roles against GERD for the Family Clostridiales Vadin BB60 group (P = 0.027), Genus Lachnospiraceae UCG004 (P = 0.026), Genus Methanobrevibacter (P = 0.026), and Phylum Actinobacteria (P = 0.019). In contrast, Class Mollicutes (P = 0.037), Genus Anaerostipes (P = 0.049), and Phylum Tenericutes (P = 0.024) emerged as potential GERD risk factors. In assessing reverse causation with GERD as the exposure and gut microbiota as the outcome, the findings indicate that GERD leads to dysbiosis in 13 distinct gut microbiota classes. The MR results' reliability was confirmed by thorough assessments of heterogeneity and pleiotropy. For the first time, the MR analysis indicates a genetic link between gut microbiota abundance changes and GERD risk. This not only substantiates the potential of intestinal microecological therapy for GERD, but also establishes a basis for advanced research into the role of intestinal microbiota in the etiology of GERD.

A5 DEVELOPMENT OF A PRE-CLINICAL MOUSE MODEL TO INVESTIGATE ADVERSE FOOD REACTIONS IN INTESTINAL INFLAMMATION

Abstract Background Patients with chronic intestinal conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), experience diverse food-related adverse reactions. However,, the precise mechanisms of food intolerances in IBD remains unclear. Emerging evidence suggests that altered diet-microbiota interactions can contribute to the development of IBD. Previously we shown that intestinal microbiota plays an important role in the development of food intolerances. We hypothesize that microbial alterations in IBD patients facilitate adverse reactions to foods. Aims To establish a preclinical mouse model to study adverse food reactions in intestinal inflammation. Methods Eight-week-old C57BL/6 mice were treated with 3% dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) for 5 days, then divided into three groups. The first group was sensitized to dairy protein (3% casein and 3% whey), using 4 oral administrations of cholera toxin over 2 weeks, without any further diet intervention. The second group was also sensitized to casein and whey, then after 1 week of recovery, the mice were subsequently place on a chow containing casein and whey. Finally, the third group was subjected to diet intervention without sensitization. The same experiment was repeated in a different subset of C57BL/6 mice which included a second cycle of DSS (1.5%) during the dietary interventions. Markers of intestinal inflammation (disease activity index (DAI), histological damage, cell infiltration and pro-inflammatory genes expression (NanoString)) and intestinal microbiota were analysed after 1 week of the diet intervention. Results Mice previously sensitized on the dairy diet exhibited an enhanced activation of immune cells after intestinal inflammation. While the histological damage score did not reveal significant differences among experimental groups, the sensitized group under dairy intervention exhibited an elevated level of immune cell infiltration, increasing the polymorphonuclear, CD3+ and mast cells. Gene expression also revealed that dairy induced the expression of inflammatory genes, such as C6, Arg1, Tnf, Il6, Cxcl9 and Cxcl10. When animals are subjected to a second DSS-cycle, dairy worsen colitis in mice previously sensitized, as shown by higher DAI compared to group with control diet and dairy diet without sensitization. Conclusions In the context of intestinal inflammation, dairy protein leads to immune activation characterized by an increase in polymorphonuclear cells, mast cells and lymphocytes, as well as worsening colitis. Future studies using this model will provide valuable insights into the role of intestinal microbiota in food intolerances associated with intestinal inflammation. Funding Agencies CCC

The role of intestinal microbiota in aging and maintaining active longevity is considered. The second part examines the issues of DNA damage by metabolites of various bacteria, which increases the risk of cancer. The interactions between the microbiota and the immune system, the connection between dysbiosis and the aging of the immune system, indicating specific molecular mechanisms, are described in detail. Particular attention is paid to lymphocytes of the Th17 subpopulation. Changes in the microbiome that are observed in individuals with cardiovascular diseases (arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, chronic heart failure) are shown. The role of trimethylamine oxide and new mechanisms of damage to the cardiovascular system associated with the migration of immune cells from Peyer's patches to atherosclerotic plaques is revealed. Ideas about the relationship between the microbiome and cognitive function are given. Changes in the microbiome against the background of increased physical activity are considered. The final part of the article presents microbiome interventions aimed at increasing life expectancy and quality of life. These include diet, the use of prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, and medications that affect the microbiota.

TLR4, IgA and EpCAM Expression in Colorectal Cancer and Their Possible Association with Microbiota as a Pathogenic Factor; An Immunohistochemical and Genetic Study.

The pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer (CRC) is thought to be related to immune response against gut microbiota. TLR4, IgA, and EpCAM have a role in intestinal local immune response and their altered expression related to both IBD and CRC. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the main activator of TLR4. The objective of this study is to evaluate the possible role of intestinal microbiota in the pathogenesis of IBD and CRC through expression of TLR4, IgA and EpCAM. One hundred five cases were divided into (Group 1/ Control: 10 sections of normal colonic mucosa, Group 2/CRC: 51 cases, Group 3/IBD: 44 cases). Immunohistochemistry for TLR4, IgA, and EpCAM was done. LPS was assessed in all groups. TLR4 gene and protein expression were assessed in colorectal cancer cell line by RT-PCR and immunocytochemistry. There was a significant correlation between TLR4 and tumor grade (P value 0.003 and 0.01 respectively). A significant correlation was found between IgA expression and T stage (P value 0.02) and between EpCAM expression and histologic type (P value 0.02). In comparison of CRC patients to controls; there was a statistically significant different expression of TLR4 positivity, IgA positivity and EpCAM (P value <0.001, 0.004, <0.001 respectively). Patients with CRC were compared to colitis patients and there was a statistically significant different expression of IgA positivity and EpCAM expression (P value <0.001). There was significant higher expression of TLR4 in CRC cell line than the fibroblast by both PCR and immunocytochemistry (P-value: 0.003 and 0.024 respectively). LPS level in CRC patients was significantly higher than the control and IBD groups (P values <0.001 and <0.001 respectively). TLR4, IgA, EpCAM expression in both CRC and IBD might be related to the pathogenic role of microbiota and could represent potential prevention modalities and therapeutic targets.

The first part of the article describes the characteristics of a healthy microbiome, its changes during aging, and the composition of the intestinal microbiome of centenarians. The importance of high microbiome biodiversity in maintaining active longevity is emphasized. The role of intestinal permeability and new biomakers that assess its condition (including zonulin) in maintaining health and in the development of intestinal dysbiosis is revealed. Separate groups of microorganisms that are associated with longevity have been identified (such as Verrucomicrobia, which includes Akkermansia), and the important role of the Bacteroidetes – Firmicutes ratio has been noted. The influence of age-associated changes in the microbiome on health, the connection between changes in the microbiome and physical activity, the possibility of using microbiome analysis to predict biological age, and the correlation of microbiome composition with biomarkers of health and disease are discussed.

A special role is played by diet, which provides metabolites that directly affect the body and the microbiota. A holistic view of the human organism is therefore essential.

It provides a theoretical basis for Traditional Chinese Medicine to regulate intestinal microbiota and its metabolites based on the renal-intestinal axis theory to treat nephrology-induced diarrhea, and also provides a new idea and method for Traitional Chinese Medicine to treat nephrology-induced diarrhea.
