Nilai-Nilai Pendidikan dalam Prosesi Ritual Adat Keboan Desa Aliyan Kecamatan Rogojampi Kabupaten Banyuwangi

This research aims to dissect the educational values ​​contained in the four processions in the Keboan traditional ritual for the younger generation and the wider community. This research uses descriptive qualitative research using a case study approach, namely with the aim of explaining and providing an overview of events in the field. The research results reveal that each procession has a different meaning and has different educational values ​​even though the four Keboan traditional ritual processes have the same goal. The four processions in the Keboan traditional ritual of Aliyan village contain religious education values, social education values ​​and cultural education values. With several educational values ​​contained in each procession, it can be used as a lesson for the wider community, especially for the younger generation who will inherit these customs and traditions so that the Keboan traditional ritual in Aliyan village continues to exist and is preserved without reducing its sacredness.

Orang Haria and Marriage Customs: The Reality of Socio-cultural Order in the Maluku Archipelago

Maluku is an archipelagic region consisting of both large and small islands surrounded by the ocean. The community interaction dynamics on and between these islands are shaped by the knowledge or mindsets based on each community’s cultural background or traditional customs, which are institutionalized within every individual and within the collective community of its adherents. Specifically, marriage customs, whether it involves payment of a dowry or traditional legitimization, integrates two individuals with different identity backgrounds into the social environment on a micro-scale (family/mataruma) and a macro scale (village/community). The people of Haria identify themselves as part of Negeri Haria, one of the traditional villages on Saparua Island, Maluku, which has meaningful marriage traditions aimed at establishing social and cultural order. These marriage customs signal to family members and ancestors about the marriage events of descendants, visible from the traditional process of introducing a wife, whether from within or outside Negeri Haria, and the obligations of a man who marries and takes a daughter from Negeri Haria to merge with his identity (family/original village). The various conditions include kain berkat (negeri wealth) meja kaweng, marriage dowry payment, and hatu mata. Additionally, there are traditions of changing the surname of a child born out of wedlock (child reallocation) or adopting someone else’s anak (arken anak). The young generation of Negeri Haria, generally needs more precise knowledge about marriage customs to form social order for newly established households. This writing aims to reveal the objective reality of the community’s oral traditions in written form, preserved for cultural conservation purposes. The reality was discovered using qualitative research, such as observation and interview methods. Hence, efforts to preserve the cultural values of this indigenous community involve tracing stories from traditional leaders who possess the knowledge and perform the ritual processes of marriage customs. Between Ritual Doubt and Spiritual Striving: The Mediation of Adab at a Sufi Shrine in Contemporary India

This article seeks to understand what attracts pilgrims to a Sufi saint, especially if redressal at the shrine is not forthcoming as the ritual process is marked by uncertainty and opacity. Based on ethnographic fieldwork at a Sufi shrine in North India, I locate an answer in adab as a conceptual framework and practical guideline. The article argues that adab materialises as a secular ethic that derives from but transcends Islam. Infusing the secular with an ethos distinct from what is presumed in Euro-American accounts of secularism, I contend that adab becomes a common resource available to all, regardless of religious affiliation. The article concludes by examining how adab gets diffused throughout the everyday life of pilgrims by extricating itself from the denominational, thereby converting the process of seeking redressal into a project of spiritual striving.

The Identity of Keris Banyumas In the Film Keris Kyai Sela And Its Contextualization with The Strengthening of Penginyongan Culture

This study aims to describe the existence of women in the perlon unggahan ritual procession of the Bonokeling indigenous community. The research employs a qualitative method with an empirical or field research approach. Data collection methods include in-depth interviews, observation, document analysis, and literature review. The findings reveal that women hold significant roles and statuses within the Bonokeling community. This is due to an awareness of gender equality in the Bonokeling community, reflecting its egalitarian character. In the traditional ceremonies of the Bonokeling community, women have productive, reproductive, and socio-cultural roles. Women are actively involved in and perform religious duties during the perlon ritual. For the Bonokeling community or lineage, perlon unggahan holds highly sacred value and serves as a spiritual path (religious practice). Women serve in key roles such as nyai wadon kunci and further down the organizational structure (nyai wadon kunci, nyai wadon bedogol, etc.). Their roles include: (a) Nyai wadon kunci assists the duties of kyai kunci; (b) Nyai wadon bedogol assists the duties of kyai bedogol; and (c) women perform specific tasks in the perlon unggahan as predetermined.

QINGCHENG YANGGE DANCE OF GANSU PROVINCE IN CHINA: FEATURES OF THE REGIONAL MUSICAL TRADITION

The article is devoted to the yangge dance, which is a part of the ritual procession during the New Year celebration according to the lunar calendar. The history of its origin in antiquity and special agricultural dominants of the ritual are shown. An overview of sources that take into account the Gansu tradition is given, unexplored aspects are identi ed, including the peculiarities of Qingcheng yangge, its musical side. The close connection with the rituals and attributes of shamanism is emphasised through two comic characters, improvising in communication with the audience. The author of the article considers the features of the choreography of Qingcheng yangge, which relate it to the martial arts and dance culture of Gansu and China, the instrumental composition of the accompaniment, in which percussion and wind instruments predominate, rhythm with a polyphonic combination of even and dotted beats, a modal system built on the principle of adding small three-four note modes into complex ones. It is concluded that there are four functions of the ritual - magical, practical, educational and aesthetic ones, and that this type has great historical value, since it makes it possible to adapt to life’s di culties and high social demands.

The design of a new interactive multimedia system based on computer vision and multi-sensing techniques for the traditional ritual process

ABSTRACT With the rapid advancements in technology, digital media have become widely integrated into people’s lives. In oriental countries, individuals frequently visit temples for fortune-telling and blessing-praying during the ritual process. A new interactive multimedia system based on computer vision and multi-sensing techniques for carrying out the traditional ritual process in the temple is proposed, which contributes to cultural preservation. The three major ritual steps, namely, ‘incense waving,’ ‘moon-block casting,’ and ‘fortune-telling poem drawing,’ were implemented by multimedia-related hardware and algorithms, and the system was exhibited for field testing by 405 participants. Interviews with experts and a questionnaire survey of the participants’ opinions were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the system using statistical software packages, yielding the following findings: (1) the proposed system can bring the participants to experience the ritual process effectively; (2) the proposed three major ritual steps not only attracts more participations but also promotes people’s learning of the ritual process; (3) the system attracts participants by integrating multimedia effects with good usability; and (4) the uses of computer vision and multi-sensing techniques bring the users new experiences of the fortune-telling application.

PROBLEMS OF MAHAYANA DEVELOPMENT IN TANGERANG: A CASE STUDY IN PADUMUTTARA MONASTERY

This study aims to find out why Padumuttara monastery followers carry out the Mahayana tradition. This research is descriptive qualitative research. In order for the data obtained to be satisfactory, the authors conducted observations, interviews, and documentation so that the data obtained was accurate. Research on the existence of Mahayana at Padumutara monastery is that people carry out various Mahayana traditions because of teacher guidance, preserving culture and Buddha Dharma, containing teachings of love. In addition, the Mahayana tradition developed at the Padumuttara monastery due to the support from the management of the temple and the Boen Tek Bio Temple. The Mahayana tradition also experiences various obstacles such as language problems, ritual processions, and the lack of interest of the younger generation to participate in Mahayana ritual activities.

Bentuk Lagu Siontong Tabang Pada Ensambel Gandang Tasa Di Nagari Sunua Kurai Taji Pariaman

This research aims to describe the form of the Siontong Tabang song in the Gandang Tasa ensemble in Nagari Sunua Kurai Taji Pariaman. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with the researcher as the main instrument, assisted by writing tools and a camera. Data were collected through literature study, observation, interviews, and documentation, with data analysis carried out through the steps of data collection, description, and conclusion drawing. The results show that Gandang Tasa is a traditional art from Pariaman, performed by an ensemble consisting of 6 to 7 players, including 6 Gandang players and 1 Tasa player. Gandang Tasa is usually performed at certain events, especially in the Tabuik ritual, to boost the spirit and solemnity of the community. The songs commonly performed in the Tabuik ritual include Oyak Tabuik, Sosoh, and Katidiang Sompong. The Siontong Tabang song plays an important role as pangka maatam in the Tabuik procession, with a short repetitive rhythmic pattern starting with Tasa playing. In the modern era, Gandang Tasa is no longer limited to traditional or ritual processes but also serves as entertainment and a means of cultural preservation for the people of Pariaman and its surroundings.

Representation of Shamanism in the Film "The Medium" (Semiotic Analysis of Chaerles Sanders Pierce)

The Medium is a supernatural horror film, produced by Showbox from South Korea and GDH 559 from Thailand, directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun, who also serves as a producer alongside Na Hong-Jin, the director of the film The Wailing. This research aims to understand the presence of shamanism or witchcraft in Indonesia and Thailand, as well as the depiction of shamanism in Indonesia through the semiotics of Charles Sander Pierce, by connecting signs, objects, and meanings in accordance with what is portrayed in the film The Medium. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques such as observation, analysis, and literature review, based on the semiotic analysis of Charles Sanders Pierce. The research findings show that shamanism in the Isan community in Thailand is portrayed as a bridge between humans and the supernatural world, with the shaman acting as a mediator. During the ritual process, the shaman uses various tools such as white thread, candles, incense, and statues. Mantras are used as a form of communication, the worship space serves as a place of worship, dance accompanied by music is a form of worship, ritual scars are a form of shamanic impact, the use of blood and cow heads is a way to ward off evil spirits, and traditional Thai clothing represents the local culture and traditions.

Valuing Trans Lives After Suicide: Rituals of Commemoration in Digital Social Media Culture

In 2014, a trans teenager named Leelah Alcorn posted a suicide letter to her public Tumblr account. Almost a decade later, in 2023, Eden Knight, another young trans woman, posted a suicide letter to her public Twitter account. Both suicide letters went viral and inspired memorial hashtags on the platforms where they initially circulated. In this article, I identify similarities between the cases, conceptualizing both as rituals of commemoration aimed toward restoring value to trans lives lost too soon. My analysis shows how ordinary users leverage the connective affordances embedded within popular social media platforms to sustain structured, value-laden acts of remembrance and mourning. In doing so, I elucidate four stages of the ritual process: (1) sharing suicide letters, (2) enshrining selfies, (3) modulating memories, and (4) casting blame. Ultimately, I argue that trans-led rituals of commemoration can function as justice-oriented tactics of resistance against engrained systems of oppression that perpetuate disproportionally high rates of early death within trans communities.

Yoga and the spiritual activities of Balinese people are basically two things that cannot be separated. As Bali tourism develops, yoga, which was initially a religious activity in a physical (worldly) dimension, has metamorphosed into a tourism product. Ancient Balinese Yoga is a yoga activity that is explored and sourced from the local wisdom of the ancestors of the Balinese people which for UHN I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa has a responsibility to preserve and has great potential to be developed into tourist packages. This research is classified as research and development (R & D). Data is collected through technical observation, interviews and document study. The results of data analysis are presented in descriptive-narrative form. The research obtained results in the form of a philosophical explanation and benefits of the UHN I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar Pakem Ancient Balinese Yoga. The UHN I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa DenpasarPakem of Ancient Balinese Yoga is the result of a combination of yoga teachings based on classical yoga texts, and three yoga colleges with an Ancient Balinese character in Bali, they are Seruling Dewata in Tabanan, the Windu Sara Foundation in Gianyar and Pasraman Bahung Tringan in Karangasem. In the philosophy of the UHN I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar Pakem Ancient Balinese Yoga is a ritual process for self-purification to eliminate dirt or inner darkness that covers the existence of the Self (Soul). This process is carried out with self-discipline in the form of physical exercise (asana and pranayama), offerings (yajna), correct knowledge (jnana), tapa and samadhi. The yoga package products offered are a day yoga package (daily yoga), a 3 day yoga package (atelun yoga), a 1 week yoga package and a 2 week yoga package. The benefits of the UHN I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar Pakem Ancient Balinese Yoga structure are projected to increase tourist attraction, strengthen cultural identity, improve community welfare, create jobs and increase income.

MITOS DALAM RITUAL SONGKABALA MASYARAKAT GALESONG KABUPATEN TAKALAR

He aim of this research is to describe the myths in the Songkabala ritual of the Galesong people of Takalar Regency. The results of this research show that in the songkabala ritual process of the Galesong community of Takalar Regency, it has (1) denotation meaning, namely Unti teknek/sweet banana, jepek/porridge, bente, dupa, tai bani/liling, songkolok, bayao/egg, tumpi-tumpi, jeknek Kaluku / Coconut water, Doek / Money. Meaning (2) connotation, namely Unti teknek/sweet banana means the path of life will be sweet, Jepek/porridge means life will be happy, Bente means having abundant fortune, Dupa, Tai bani/ Liling to illuminate people's lives, Songkolok, Bayao/ Eggs , Tumpi-tumpi, Jeknek kaluku / Coconut water, Doek / Money. The meaning of (3) myths is that Unti teknek/Sweet banana means that there will be a series of disasters, Jepek/Push means life will not be happy, Bente means not having sustenance, Dupa means all bad things will go away, Tai bani/Liling has no brightness in life, Songkolok means that the family will fall apart and not find a soul mate, Bayao/Egg if the egg is cracked, it is a sign that someone wants to do evil, Tumpi-tumpi means avoiding disaster in any way, Jeknek Kaluku/Coconut water has a heart that is not dirty, Doek/Money, It was interpreted by the community as not feeling good towards Panrita

Embodied Creative Practice as a method for cultural recovery.

We exist in the marriage of physical and spiritual remembrance. It is in these spaces that we identify with our physical and imagined bodies.’” (Saye, 2017, p. 42).” This paper weaves through my artistic journey, and my adoption of an embodied practice, as a methodology of recovering my voice and self, as a creative practitioner. This paper examines the photograph as an immortal object that transcends time and space, and highlights its capabilities in producing non-linear narratives, challenging fixed notions of time which underpinned the western colonial project. Through my analysis of works of the British Gambian Photographer Khadija Saye, and my photo project ‘Orí Inú’, I showcase the ritualistic process of photography, as a liberatory force of sustaining life, as well as its capabilities in carving a space of solidarity for the photographer and viewer. By focusing on Ìṣẹ̀ṣe (Yoruba Spirituality) and Spiritualist Photography, I demonstrate the power of photography in imagining speculative possibilities, that go beyond the normative understandings of marginalized bodies, and the rethinking of our vulnerable world.

This study aims to determine the funeral ritual procession of Bokeo derivatives in Silea Village, Wundulako District, Kolaka Regency. This research uses Levi-Strauss (1958) Structural Theory Attitude of Relationship Between Relatives Elementally. The data collection technique used in this research is Snowball Sampling by conducting involved observation (observation participation) and in-depth interviews. this research is Qualitative research using Ethnographic research methods. The research shows that: first: when a bokeo descendant dies, several funeral ritual processes will be carried out, namely first; making a coffin from the trunk of an areca tree (pu'umbundi), second; wearing forty sarongs as a calendar (O'sawu), third; slaughtering buffaloes (To'ono Mogere) and fourth; funeral custom umbrella (O'pawu).

The Impact of “Kekweimet” on Christian Beliefs and Practices Among the Keiyo Community of Kenya

African religious practice constitutes an important component of the social and religious makeup and the cycle of harmony in the community. Despite the introduction of Christianity, most African communities have sustained cultural practices, some of which contrast with Christian beliefs. The main aim of this research was to evaluate the persistence of the cleansing ritual of Kekweimet among the Keiyo people of Kenya. This inquiry also sought to understand the social and religious implications of this cleansing ritual on the Keiyo Christians. A qualitative ethnographic approach was used for the study with a target sample size of 95 participants in Kapkei village on the Keiyo Border. Interviews and focus group discussions were used to collect data and a thematic strategy was adopted for data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that Kekweimet was an important collective cleansing ritual still practiced by Keiyo Christians. The ritual process was meant to cleanse, remove bitterness in the grieving family, and repair the relationship between the clan of the deceased and the one who had committed murder. From the setting, there was a strong interaction between the Keiyo Christians and the cleansing ritual because of the involvement of church elders and the use of Christian-based prayer. The researcher determined that despite the constructive outcomes of Kekweimet the practice among Keiyo Christians surmounted syncretism and risked leading the faithful away from the Christian Faith.

Marongge Pellet Ritual: A Socio-Economic Phenomenon in Sumedang Indonesia

Purpose: Describe what social-economic phenomenon exists and the process of the Marongge pellet ritual in Sumedang, Indonesia Theoretical reference: This study is based on sociological, economic, and cultural studies. The Marongge Pellet Ritual at Sumedang West Java, Indonesia. Method: Using a normative qualitative methodology, with a phenomenon approach. Data collection through field work, interviews and surveys. Results and Conclusion: The results of this study show that the Marongge Pellet Ritual is a multifaceted socio-economic phenomenon that plays a vital role in the cultural and economic life of Sumedang, Indonesia. The ritual process begins with pilgrimage, worship, and prayers, after which the custodian provides the requirements that must be brought after being prayed for. Implications of research: The ritual's role in promoting social cohesion and economic redistribution aligns with studies on sacred values and their influence on decision-making processes. Understanding how sacred values shape behaviors and contribute to conflict resolution can provide a broader perspective on the significance of rituals like the Marongge Pellet Ritual in maintaining community harmony. Understanding how traditional rituals contribute to local communities' poverty alleviation and income generation is essential for developing sustainable economic models. Originality/value: It presents a unique socioeconomic phenomenon that justifies the exploration of its originality and value within the local context. This ritual is likely to have importance in the community as it interweaves economic activities with cultural practices. Understanding the originality and value of this ritual can shed light on its socioeconomic implications and offer insights into the dynamics of traditional practices in contemporary society.

The Silence Bissu: Cultural Misaccommodation of Local Communities in Ritual Ceremony

This article aims to explain how cultural misaccommodation of rituals in local communities can occur. Bissu as a component of society comes along with negotiations to maintain the rituals and religiosity that have shaped their identity. The presence of bissu in the ritual procession is an authority that they have culturally. Throughout the history of civilisation, bissu were the main, sacred and central party in the ritual procession. However, what happened on Bone's 62nd anniversary was a moment when bissu were not involved. This article is based on data obtained from online searches. News and article searches were conducted as a basis for analysing the cultural misaccommodation of local communities. This article shows that the misaccommodation of bissu in the ritual procession is a weakening of identity and existence. The government in this case becomes the party that eliminates bissu from its roots, the dynamics of polarisation of the ruling group along with a set of laws make bissu misaccommodation a hegemony. Along with the society that places bissu as a minority party, both socially and culturally. Therefore, it is necessary to affirm the authority of bissu as a party that maintains cultural sustainability.

Eksplorasi Nilai-Nilai Edukasi Konservasi Mata Air pada Tradisi Ngalun Aik di Lombok Timur

The Ngalun Aik tradition has strong roots and has become an identity in the life of the people of Aik Dewa Village. On the other hand, the spring in Aik Dewa Village not only acts as a source of clean water for daily needs but also plays an important role in local rituals and beliefs related to survival. Therefore, the role of local traditions such as Ngalun Aik is becoming increasingly important to explore and understand in spring conservation efforts. This research uses a qualitative approach to gain an understanding of the educational value of spring conservation in the Ngalun Aik tradition. The respondents in this research involved six male and four female key persons, representing religious leaders, traditional leaders, community leaders, and groups of young men and women. Based on documentation, observation, and interview findings, it can be concluded that the Ngalun Aik tradition in Aik Dewa Village is not only a cultural ritual but also a strong educational platform about the importance of environmental conservation and natural resource management. Through ritual processions, people express their appreciation for water sources as sacred gifts of nature. This tradition teaches the educational values of maintaining water quality, sustainable water management, and environmental awareness to the younger generation. Ngalun Aik also strengthens cultural ties, spirituality, and ecological awareness in the community.
