Sixty-month comperative evaluation of a glass hybrid restorative and a composite resin in non-carious cervical lesions of bruxist individuals

ObjectiveTo compare the clinical performance of a glass hybrid (GH) restorative and a nano-ceramic composite resin (CR) in the restoration of non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) of bruxist individuals in a 60-month randomized clinical trial.Materials and methodsTwenty-five bruxist candidates having NCCLs were recruited in this clinical study. The depth, height (cervico–incisal), width (mesio-distal), internal angles of the NCCLs, degree of tooth wear (TWI) and gingival index (GI) were measured. One hundred-and-forty-eight NCCLs were restored either with a GH restorative (Equia Forte Fil) or a CR (Ceram.X One Universal). Modified USPHS criteria was used to evaluate restorations after 1 week and 12, 24, 36 and 60 months. Pearson’s Chi-Square, Fisher’s Exact and Cochran Q tests were run for analysis. Survival rates of the restorations were compared with Kaplan–Meier analysis (p < 0.05).ResultsAfter 60 months, 97 restorations in 15 patients were examined. The recall rate was 60.0%. Retention rates were 73.5% for CR and 66.7% for GH. A total of 29 restorations were lost (13CR (26.5%), 16GH (33.3%)). There was not a significant difference between tested restoratives in retention (p = 0.464), marginal adaptation (p = 0.856) and marginal discoloration (p = 0.273). There was no relationship between internal angle, depth, height or width and retention of the GH or CR restorations (p > 0.05). The increase in retention loss and marginal discoloration of both restorations over time were significant (p < 0.001). Sensitivity or secondary caries were not detected after 60 months.ConclusionGH and nano-ceramic CR showed similar clinical performances in NCCLs after 60 months in patients with bruxism.Clinical significanceAfter 60 months, CR and GH materials showed clinically acceptable performances in restoration of NCCLs in patients with bruxism.

Root coverage with the restoration of non-carious cervical lesions: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

The progression of non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) leads to gingival recession (GR), which is restored with restorative materials, using different periodontal plastic surgery procedures. There is no consensus on which technique is superior to others. Therefore, the present systematic review aimed to assess the effectiveness of root coverage (RC) procedures in the restored and unrestored NCCLs in terms of clinical and patient-centered outcomes.We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) while searching 5 databases in addition to the gray literature. The Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms and keywords in the title and abstract fields, as well as in headings, were used to search the existing literature for the relevant publications on the effectiveness of RC procedures with the restoration of NCCLs over the past 3 decades (January 1990-July 2021). After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 articles were read in full and critically analyzed. The quality analysis was performed using the Cochrane RevMan software.A total of 222 potentially relevant titles and abstracts were found after the initial electronic and manual search, and after removing duplicates. Applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria yielded 23 publications that were further analyzed for relevance and applicability. Following critical analysis, 13 publications were used for validity assessment and data extraction.In the teeth with NCCLs and GR, the restoration of NCCLs does not affect the percentage RC. However, it significantly decreases dentin hypersensitivity, and the patients' perception of esthetics and satisfaction.

Prolonged polymerization of a universal adhesive in non-carious cervical lesions: 36-month double-blind randomized clinical trial

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of prolonged (P) polymerization time of a universal adhesive system applied in etch-and-rinse (ER) or self-etch (SE) strategies on the clinical performance of restorations in non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs), after 36 months of clinical service. MethodsA total of 140 restorations were randomly placed in 35 subjects according to the polymerization time groups: ER (10 s); ER-P (40 s); SE (10 s); and SE-P (40 s) at 1,200 mW/cm2. Composite resin was placed incrementally. The restorations were evaluated immediately and after 6, 12, 18, and 36 months using the FDI criteria. Data were analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier survival test for retention loss, and the Kruskal-Wallis’ test for secondary outcomes (α = 0.05). ResultsAfter 36 months, 19 restorations were lost: ER 6, ER-P 2, SE 9, SE-P 2. The retention rates were 82.3% for ER; 94.1 % for ER-P; 73.5 % for SE; and 94.1 % for SE-P, with a significant difference between ER vs. ER-P and SE vs. SE-P, as well as ER vs. SE-P and ER-P vs. SE (p < 0.0001). Minor defects were observed in 18 restorations for the marginal staining criteria: ER 5, ER-P 2, SE 8, SE-P 3; and in 33 restorations for the marginal adaptation criteria: ER 11, ER-P 4, SE 12, and SE-P 6 (p > 0.05). No restorations showed recurrence of caries or postoperative sensitivity. ConclusionsA prolonged polymerization time of 40 s improves the clinical performance of the universal adhesive for both adhesive strategies evaluated, even after 36 months. Clinical significanceProlonging the polymerization time of a universal adhesive from 10 to 40 s has been shown to improve its clinical performance when used in NCCLs.

Does Acid Etching Influence the Adhesion of Universal Adhesive Systems in Noncarious Cervical Lesions? A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

To evaluate the adhesion of universal adhesive systems to the dentin of noncarious cervical lesions (NCCLs) by comparing the etch-and-rinse and self-etch strategies through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Systematic electronic searches were performed by two independent reviewers into the following databases: PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library until December of 2021. Only randomized clinical trials were selected, comparing etch-and-rinse and self-etch strategies and using universal adhesive systems in NCCLs. This systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines and registered into PROSPERO. After the removal of duplicates, 170 articles were identified. In an initial screening of titles and abstracts, 146 records did not satisfy the inclusion criteria and were, therefore, excluded. Twenty-four studies were eligible for evaluation of the full text, and four were excluded after this step. Finally, 20 randomized clinical trials were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. This systematic review and meta-analysis revealed that applying universal adhesive systems in the etch-and-rinse strategy could lead to better medium-term (>12 to 36 months) retention of NCCL restorations than the self-etch strategy, as well as resulting in lower percentages of marginal discoloration, marginal adaptation, and secondary caries. However, the use of a self-etching strategy can lead to lower postoperative sensitivity.

Need for restoration of non-carious cervical lesions – A literature review

In present scenario, restoring non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) is clinically common. Major reasons for this are increased elderly population, the decreasing levels of tooth loss, and possible increase in the etiologies. These factors are poor brushing technique due to which gums recede, consumption of corrosive foods and beverages, and occlusal stress concentrators (occlusal disorders, premature contact, clenching, and bruxism habits. Unfortunately, Class V restorations are known to be less durable type and they have high index of retention loss, marginal residues and secondary caries. Other problems include isolation, insertion, cutting, finishing, and polishing. The present work aims to help the dentist choose best treatment strategy, which mainly involves the stages of problem identification, diagnosis, elimination or etiological treatment and if require restoration. Finally, appropriate recovery methods are suggested for each situation.

Clinical performance of some resin-based materials in restoring non-carious cervical lesions

Objectives. The objective of the study was to investigate the clinical performance of two different resin-based materials 6 months after their placement in dental non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL). This study also aimed to evaluate the effects of the materials on periodontal tissues in terms of clinical changes of several periodontal parameters. Material and methods. NCCLs characteristics (localization, morphology, dimensions) were preoperatively recorded. The clinical behavior of the restorations based on the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria and periodontal parameters (plaque index, bleeding index, probing depth, and attachment loss) were assessed at baseline and after 1, 3 and 6 months. Results. No significant modifications were recorded for the modified USPHS criteria 6 months after the placement of NCCL restorations excepting postoperative hypersensitivity which was associated with 4 restorations after 6 months. Significant improvements of plaque and bleeding indices were recorded, while no significant modifications were noted for the other periodontal parameters. Conclusions. Considering the clinical success related to the good clinical behavior and the positive effect of the restorations on the periodontal status, the experimental conventional composites and giomers could be considered as a good therapeutic option for the restoration of NCCLs.

12 Month's Assessment Of Clinical Efficacy Of Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement And Flowable Composites In Restoration Of Non-Carious Cervical Lesions, A Randomized Clinical Trial.

The objective of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of Resin modified glass ionomer cement and Flowable composite in terms of retention, marginal adaptation and surface texture using United States Public Health Service criteria in non-carious cervical lesions measured over a period of one year. A Randomized Clinical Trial is conducted with Informed consent on 60 patients who are randomly allocated into 2 groups with at least 2 Non Carious Cervical Lesions in each. Group 1 is used for Flowable Composite while group 2 is used for resin modified glass ionomer cement. A recall is maintained to draw conclusions between two materials in terms of occurrence of marginal adaptation, retention and surface texture, to show which material is superior to other. Out of 30 restorations in 12 months follow up, only 19 found to be present in flowable composite group while in resin modified glass ionomer cement group, 28 are retained. Regarding margin integrity, Group 1 showed 21 intact margins whereas 23 margins were intact in group 2, while 18 and 25 showed smooth surface in flowable composite and Resin modified glass ionomer cement group respectively, on exploration. It can be concluded from our study that Resin modified glass ionomer cement is superior to Flowable composite in terms of retention (p=0.005) and surface texture (p=0.045) in restoration of non carious cervical lesion.

Effect of dentin roughening and type of composite material on the restoration of non-carious cervical lesions: an in vivo study with 18 months of follow-up.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of dentin roughening and the type of composite resin used (either bulk-fill flowable or nanohybrid) on the restoration of non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) with an 18-month follow-up period. This prospective split-mouth study included 36 patients, each with a minimum of 4 NCCLs. For each patient, 4 types of restorations were performed: unroughened dentin with nanohybrid composite, unroughened dentin with bulk-fill flowable composite, roughened dentin with nanohybrid composite, and roughened dentin with bulk-fill flowable composite. A universal bonding agent (Tetric N Bond Universal) was applied in self-etch mode for all groups. The restorations were subsequently evaluated at 6, 12, and 18 months in accordance with the criteria set by the FDI World Dental Federation. Inferential statistics were computed using the Friedman test, with the level of statistical significance established at 0.05. The 4 groups exhibited no significant differences in relation to fracture and retention, marginal staining, marginal adaptation, postoperative hypersensitivity, or the recurrence of caries at any follow-up point. Within the limitations of the present study, over an 18-month follow-up period, no significant difference was present in the clinical performance of bulk-fill flowable and nanohybrid composite restorations of non-carious cervical lesions. This held true regardless of whether dentin roughening was performed.

Numerical Modeling of a New Type of Prosthetic Restoration for Non-Carious Cervical Lesions.

The paper considers a new technology for the treatment of non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs). The three parameterized numerical models of teeth are constructed: without defect, with a V-shaped defect, and after treatment. A new treatment for NCCL has been proposed. Tooth tissues near the NCCLs are subject to degradation. The main idea of the technology is to increase the cavity for the restoration of NCCLs with removal of the affected tissues. The new treatment method also allows the creation of a playground for attaching the gingival margin. The impact of three biomaterials as restorations is studied: CEREC Blocs; Herculite XRV; and Charisma. The models are deformed by a vertical load from the antagonist tooth from 100 to 1000 N. The tooth-inlay system is considered, taking into account the contact interaction. Qualitative patterns of tooth deformation before and after restoration were established for three variants of the inlay material.

Clinical Behavior of the Gingival Margin following Conservative "Coronally Dynamic" Restorations in the Presence of Non-Carious Cervical Lesions Associated with Gingival Recession: A Pilot Study.

Gingival recessions (GR) are often associated with the presence of non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL). The latter result in the disappearance of the cement–enamel junction (CEJ), with consequent difficulties both in measuring the recession itself and in performing root coverage techniques. The restoration of cervical lesions is consequently an important aspect in the treatment of GR, with the re-establishment of a “new” CEJ. This pilot study aimed to verify whether restorative therapy alone, with the execution of a restoration that mimics the convexity of the natural CEJ and thanks to a slight horizontal over-contour, can stabilize a clot in the intrasulcular site and consequently is able to change the position of the gingival margin in a coronal direction. In periodontally healthy patients, with a non-thin gingival phenotype, 10 GR-associated NCCL restorations were performed using a protocol inspired by concepts of prosthetic conditioning, with a progressively reduced convexity (“coronally dynamic restoration”) and de-epithelialization of the gingival sulcus. We observed that 70% of the treated teeth showed a reduction in crown length after 15 days (−0.267 mm), without an increase in probing depth. While considering the limitations of the sample and the need to evaluate the different parameters that can affect the result, the coronally dynamic restoration of NCCL with GR was able to influence the position of the gingival margin in a coronal direction.

Clinical Effectiveness of Composite Resin Bonded with Universal Adhesive for the Restoration of Non-Carious Cervical Lesions Using Air Abrasion: A Randomised Controlled Trial

Restorative treatment is very challenging for non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) due to functional and structural complexities. The purpose of this randomised controlled trial (RCT) was to evaluate the clinical performance of nanocomposite restorations bonded using universal adhesive in self-etch mode with and without air abrasive surface treatment for NCCLs. A total of 70 NCCLs, from a group of consenting patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria, were recruited for the study. The study was carried out following CONSORT guidelines. Block randomisation was done for equal allocation of lesions into; Group 1 (surface treatment with alumina air abrasion) and Group 2 (control group without mechanical surface treatment). The lesions were restored with nanocomposite using a universal bonding agent in self-etch mode. The clinical performance of the restorations was evaluated by two examiners using modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria at baseline, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. A Chi-square test was performed for inter-group comparison. Cochran’s Q test and Dunn’s post hoc analysis were used for intra-group comparison. The inter-group comparison revealed no statistically significant difference between the experimental and control group for all the parameters assessed. With the intra-group analysis, it was found that there was a significant decrease in the performance of the restorations concerning marginal staining, marginal adaptation and surface texture during the evaluation period (p &lt; 0.05). However, all of them demonstrated clinically acceptable performance. According to the results of this RCT, it was concluded that airborne particle abrasion of NCCLs did not improve the clinical performance of nanocomposite resin bonded using universal adhesive.

NaOCl Application after Acid Etching and Retention of Cervical Restorations: A 3-Year Randomized Clinical Trial

This study evaluated the retention of composite resin restorations in noncarious cervical lesions (NCCLs) performed with or without pretreatment with 10% NaOCl solution (deproteinization). A randomized, controlled, split-mouth, double-blinded trial was carried out. Thirty patients with at least two NCCLs were included in the study. The NCCLs were randomly allocated into two treatment groups: control (acid etching with 37% phosphoric acid + placebo solution + Adper Single Bond 2/3M Oral Care + Filtek Z350/3M Oral Care) or experimental group (acid etching with 37% phosphoric acid + 10% NaOCl solution + Adper Single Bond 2 + Filtek Z350). A calibrated examiner evaluated the restorations at baseline (1 week) and recalls (6, 12, 24, and 36 months) using the FDI criteria. The primary outcome evaluated was retention of the restorations. Data were analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank test (α=0.05). After 3 years, 64 restorations were evaluated in 23 patients. The annual failure rate was 9% for the control group and 17.8% for the experimental group (deproteinization technique). Considering the failures and their distribution among the characteristics of the patients and NCCLs, no statistically significant differences were observed for the control and experimental treatment groups (p=0.077) or the number of teeth in the mouth (p=0.320). Restorations in the mandible (p=0.039) and premolars (p=0.013) showed significantly lower clinical survival rates. The deproteinization pretreatment with a 10% NaOCl solution did not promote additional retention of restorations in NCCLs. (clinicaltrials. gov: NCT03086720).

The Effect of Flowable Composite Resins on Periodontal Health, Cytokine Levels, and Immunoglobulins.

Objective This study investigated the effects of flowable resin composites (FCR) on the restoration of noncarious cervical lesions (NCCL) and their impact on periodontal tissues. Materials and Methods 30 periodontally healthy patients were assigned into three groups randomly; group VF: self-adhering FCR, group NF: fluoride-releasing FCR, and group SF: microhybrid FCR. Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) volume levels of osteoprotegerin (OPG), immunoglobulins (IgA, IgM), and interleukins (IL-1, IL-1β, and IL-10) in GCF were analyzed with ELISA tests. Clinical success rates were evaluated using USPHS criteria during the 12-month follow-up. Results The GCF volume was increased mostly in group SF (1.34 ± 0.09 μl). While the titer of interleukin was increased in all groups, higher increases were observed in IL-1 and IL-1β in group NF (170.78 pg/ml and 39.35 pg/ml). Increased IL-10 was observed in group VF (14.33 ± 0.85 pg/ml). IgA levels varied partially among all groups (p > 0.05), and even IgM levels were elevated immediately after the restoration process but returned to normal on the 28th day (p < 0.05). Group NF failed in most of the USPHS criteria, while the material group VF and group SF presented acceptable results except in the marginal adaptation criterion (p < 0.05). Conclusions Clinical efficacy of self-adhering FCR was found the best for restoration of NCCL while fluoride-releasing FCR stimulated the periodontal response and had negative effects on GCF volume, cytokine, and immunoglobulin levels.

OCT Evaluation of Marginal and Internal Interface Integrity of Class V Composite Restorations after 36 to 48 Months.

To compare a self-etch and a two-step etch-and-rinse adhesive in terms of internal and marginal composite-tooth bond failure separately on enamel and dentin/cement at 36-48 months after restoration placement using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Twenty-seven patients with two or three class V composite restorations of noncarious cervical lesions 36-48 months after placement were included. The one-step self-etch adhesive Futurabond M ([Voco] group SE, n = 25) and the two-step etch-and-rinse adhesive Solobond M ([Voco] group ER, n = 20) combined with the nanohybrid composite Amaris (Voco) were evaluated. The four-step etch-and-rinse adhesive Syntac classic combined with Tetric EvoCeram (Ivoclar Vivadent) served as the control (n = 18). Spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT, 1310-nm center wavelength) was applied. Marginal gaps and internal interfacial adhesive defects were quantified in cross-sectional OCT images. Groups were statistically compared using the Friedman/Wilcoxon test (α = 0.05). In enamel, nonsignificantly different percentages of marginal gap formation and internal interfacial adhesive defects were found between the groups (pi ≥ 0.258). In dentin/cement, SE showed significantly less marginal gap formation compared to ER (p < 0.001) and control (p = 0.001), and at the internal dentin-composite interface less adhesive defects were found compared to ER (p < 0.001) and control (p = 0.003). The self-etch adhesive used in the current study appears recommendable for restoration of noncarious cervical lesions with composite.

A Retrospective Clinical Study on Factors Influencing the Failure of NCCL Restorations.

Objectives This retrospective study evaluated the factors influencing the clinical failure of noncarious cervical lesion (NCCL) restorations. Methods Patients were routinely treated by undergraduate or postgraduate students and randomly received a clinical recall evaluation. A retrospective study was performed with two experienced calibrated examiners to evaluate NCCL restorations, including the critical parameters of retention, caries, marginal discoloration, and marginal integrity. The factors related to the restoration included gender, age, arch site, tooth position, the presence of occlusal wear facets, caries risk, operator, adhesive strategy, and composite. The clinical failure comparison between the parameters and factors was performed using the binary logistic regression analysis. Results A total of 460 cervical restorations from 96 patients were evaluated. The adhesive strategy and the presence of occlusal wear facets were the most important factors influencing the parameter failure. Therefore, the highest failure was marginal integrity, in which the gingival marginal integrity failure was 50.7%, and the occlusal marginal integrity failure was 42.4%. Conclusions The main factors influencing clinical failure for partial loss, marginal discoloration, and marginal integrity were the adhesive strategy and the presence of occlusal wear facets. Therefore, marginal integrity was the most frequent failure parameter.

Universal Simplified Adhesive applied under different bonding technique's: 36-month Randomized Multicentre Clinical Trial

To evaluate the clinical performance of a new dual-cure universal adhesive system (Futurabond U, Voco) when applied using different application strategies in non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) after 36 months. Futurabond U was applied in NCCLs of 50 subjects using four adhesion strategies (n=50 restorations per group): only self-etch (SEE); selective enamel etching+self-etch (SET); etch-and-rinse with dry dentin (ERDry); and etch-and-rinse with wet dentin (ERWet). All cavities were restored using Admira Fusion composite resin (Voco). Restorations were evaluated after 36 months using the World Federation criteria (FDI) and the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. The after 36-month retention rates were 87% (75-92%) for SEE, 94% (83-98%) for SET, 91% (80-97%) for ERDry, and 94% (83-98%) for ERWet. Forty-three restorations were considered to have minor discrepancies in marginal adaptation at the 36-month recall (18 for SEE, 12 for SET, 7 for ERDry, and 6 for ERWet; p > 0.05). One restoration was detected as a minor marginal discoloration at the 36-month recall (1 for SET; p > 0.05). No restorations showed postoperative sensitivity and caries recurrence at 36 months. The clinical performance of the Futurabond U did not depend on the employed bonding strategy, and it was considered reliable after 36 months of clinical evaluation. However, greater marginal discrepancy was observed in the self-etch groups. NCCLs restorations using a dual-cure universal adhesive in self-etch and etch-and-rinse modes showed satisfactory clinical performance after 36 months.

Restorative materials for restorations of non-carious cervical lesions: an overview

Objective: To review the available scientific literature on the restorative treatment of non-carious cervical lesions; in particular, the restorative materials that present optimal performance in this type of clinical situation. Methods: A literature review was performed using Pubmed search engine with the aim of determining the ideal restorative material for restorations of non-carious cervical lesions. Results: Beautifil II (Shofu INC.) restorative material showed satisfactory results in terms of fracture resistance, flexural strength and excellent aesthetics, in addition to components that act as anti-cariogenic, anti-plaque and oral pH balance. The Clearfil SE Bond adhesive (Kuraray NORITAKE) showed in clinical research the highest bond strength rate compared to other adhesive systems available in the dental market. Conclusion: Non-carious cervical lesions are multifactorial lesions that require the professional knowledge to conduct the treatment effectively. The Shofu Beautifil II showed the best results in fracture resistance, flexural strength and excellent aesthetics, it has anticariogenic potential, anti-plaque bacteria and contributes to the oral pH balance. Sonic application of one-step self-etch adhesive in composite restorations of non-carious cervical lesions: A double-blind randomized clinical trial.

To evaluate the influence of the sonic device on the clinical performance of one-step self-etch adhesive systems in non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) after 18 months. Forty patients participated in this study. Eighty restorations were assigned to two groups (n=40): Sonic application and Manual application. After the adhesive application (iBond Self-Etch, Kulzer, Hanau, Germany), NCCLs were restored using composite resin (Charisma, Kulzer, Hanau, Germany). The restorations were evaluated at baseline and after 18 months both according to the Word Dental Federation (FDI) and the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. Friedman repeated measures analysis of variance by rank and Wilcoxon test for significance in each pair were applied (α=0.05). After 18 months, 38 patients were evaluated. Twenty-three restorations were lost (19 for manual vs. 4 for sonic application). The retention rates (95% confidence interval) were 50% (CI 34.8%-65.1%) for manual application and 84.2% (CI 69.6%-92.6%) for sonic application (p < 0.05). Twelve restorations showed marginal staining (nine for manual vs. three for sonic application; FDI, p < 0.05) and nine some marginal discrepancy (seven for manual vs. two for sonic application; FDI, p < 0.05). No restorations showed postoperative sensitivity and caries recurrence at the time. The sonic application increases the retention rate of iBond Self-Etch after 18 months of clinical evaluation in NCCLs. The application of a simplified self-etch adhesive (iBond Self-Etch) associated to a sonic device seems to be an alternative to improve the clinical behavior in NCCLs.

A new preheating thermoviscous composite for restoration of non-carious cervical lesions: a 6-month randomized clinical trial

Objective: This double-blind, split-mouth randomized clinical trial evaluate the clinical performance of a newpreheating (PHT) thermoviscous composite compared to a non-heating (NHT) composite resin in restorations ofnon-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) over a period of 6-month. Material and Methods: 120 restorations wereperformed on NCCLs with two restorative materials (n = 60). After prophylaxis, the teeth were isolated withretraction cord isolation/cotton rolls and one universal adhesive was applied in the selective enamel etchingstrategy. For the PHT group heating was carried out at 68°C using a heater bench for 3 min. On the other side, forthe NHT group, no heating was applied. Both restorative materials were placed in the caps dispenser and insertedin the NCCLs. The restorations were evaluated after 6-month of clinical performance according to the FDI criteria.Statistical analysis was performed with Chi-square test for all FDI parameters (a = 0.05). Results: Three restorationsonly in the NHT group were lost/fractured after six months follow-up. The retention rates (confidential interval95%) for six months were 97.5% (88.6% - 99.0%) for the NHT group and 100% (93.9% - 100%) for the PHTgroup (p &gt; 0.05). Twenty-two restorations (8 for NHT and 14 for PHT) presented small marginal adaptationdefects at the six-months follow-up (p &gt; 0.05). Twenty-six restorations were found to have biofilm retention inthe six-month recall (11 for NHT and 15 for PHT; p &gt; 0.05). Regarding all others FDI parameters evaluated, allrestorations were considered clinically acceptable. Conclusion: The clinical performance of the new preheatingthermoviscous was found to be promise after 6-month of clinical evaluation when applied in NCCLs.
