Efficient and Cost-Effective ZCS Direct AC–AC Resonant Converter for Induction Heating

Domestic induction-heating technology requires specific features such as high output power levels in a reduced enclosure, elevated operating temperature, large load variation, and reduced cost. To fulfill these requirements, classical solutions are based on the combination of a rectifier and a dc-link inverter. This is a well-balanced solution, but there is still room for efficiency and cost improvements. Unlike previous proposals, this paper proposes a direct ac-ac converter to reduce the component count, reduce cost, improve reliability, and increase efficiency. The proposed converter is a voltage-source series-resonant converter that achieves linear output power control, reducing control complexity. Moreover, the proposed converter achieves soft switching during both turn-on and turn-off transitions, further improving the efficiency and enabling the selection of low-speed devices with improved conduction properties. A 3.6-kW converter has been designed and implemented, verifying the feasibility of the proposal and the expected performance.

Improved Modification of the Closed-Loop-Controlled AC-AC Resonant Converter for Induction Heating

A single-switch parallel resonant converter for induction heating is implemented. The circuit consists of an input LC-filter, a bridge rectifier, and a controlled power switch. The switch operates in soft commutation mode and serves as a high frequency generator. The output power is controlled via the switching frequency. A steady state analysis of the converter operation is presented. A closed-loop circuit model is also presented, and the experimental results are compared with the simulation results.

The features, technology and construction of a transistorized generator for induction heating operating over the 50 kHz... 200 kHz frequency range are presented. This new type of generator with 25 kW output power allows to replace the electronic tube generators in most part of their applications. The most outstanding advantages of this new generator in respect of tube generators are : more energy efficiency, extended service life, reduced size, separated mounting of heating station and generator. The generator incorporates an automatic frequency tracking system which allows to operate without any adjustments over a wide frequency range

A new single-switch parallel resonant converter for induction heating is introduced. The circuit consists of the input LC-filter, bridge rectifier and only one controlled power switch. The switch operates in a soft commutation mode and serves as a high frequency generator. The improved scheme of the above converter is based on the prototype, which was previously introduced by the present authors, and avoids its shortcomings, i.e. the presence of the DC-component in the load current. The steady-state analysis of the converter operation is given. The theoretical analysis and computer simulation are in good agreement with the experimental results.
