2024 Chinese guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis(RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by erosive arthritis, which is an important cause of disability in Chinese population. It is of great significance to formulate and update RA diagnosis and treatment guidelines that meet the standards of international guidelines and clinical practice in China. The update of the Chinese guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of RA was initiated by National Clinical Research Center for Dermatologic and Immunologic Diseases, jointly with the Chinese Association of Rheumatology and Immunology Physicians, the Rheumatology and Immunology Professional Committee of Chinese Rehabilitation Medical Association, the Rheumatology and Immunology Professional Committee of Chinese Research Hospital Association, and the Rheumatology and Immunology Branch of Beijing Association of Holistic Integrative Medicine. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT) checklist were followed to update the guidelines. The guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations on 10 clinical issues which were concerned by Chinese rheumatologists. The aim is to improve the level of diagnosis and standard treatment of RA in China, and to improve the quality of life and prognosis of patients.

Chinese national clinical practice guidelines on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of early colorectal cancer.

The incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC) in China are increasing in recent years. The clarified pathogenesis and detectable precancerous lesions of CRC make it possible to prevent, screen, and diagnose CRC at an early stage. With the development of endoscopic and surgical techniques, the choice of treatment for early CRC is also worth further discussion, and accordingly, a standard follow-up program after treatment needs to be established. This clinical practice guideline (CPG) was developed following the recommended process of the World Health Organization, adopting Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) in assessing evidence quality, and using the Evidence to Decision framework to formulate clinical recommendations, thereby minimizing bias and increasing transparency of the CPG development process. We used the Reporting Items for practice Guidelines in HealThcare (RIGHT) statement and Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) as reporting and conduct guides to ensure the guideline's completeness and transparency. This CPG comprises 46 recommendations concerning prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance of CRC. In these recommendations, we have indicated protective and risk factors for CRC and made recommendations for chemoprevention. We proposed a suitable screening program for CRC based on the Chinese context. We also provided normative statements for the diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance of CRC based on existing clinical evidence and guidelines. The 46 recommendations in this CPG are formed with consideration for stakeholders' values and preferences, feasibility, and acceptability. Recommendations are generalizable to resource-limited settings with similar CRC epidemiology pattern as China.

Appraising the quality of clinical practice guidelines in Chinese patent medicine

BackgroundChinese patent medicine (CPM) is a type of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that utilizes Chinese medicinal materials as its raw ingredients. Following the principles of TCM theory, it undergoes specific processing techniques to create various dosage forms for the prevention and treatment of diseases. The current CPM guidelines, both domestically and internationally, are constrained by limitations in methodological quality and reporting, which do not adequately address the requirements of the majority of clinicians and patients. ObjectiveTo evaluate the methodological rigor and reporting quality of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) in CPM, with aim to assess their current quality and to provide recommendations for improving guideline development. MethodsThe study utilized the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) tool and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare for Traditional Chinese Medicine (RIGHT for TCM) checklist to evaluate the methodological rigor and reporting quality of CPM guidelines. After the training session, the four investigators were divided into two groups to evaluate the guidelines of patent Chinese medicine included in this study based on the aforementioned criteria. In case of any discrepancies, a secondary analysis was conducted by all four researchers under the guidance of two clinical experts, ensuring an impartial evaluation outcome. Average score or average reporting rate were calculated for each domain. ResultsA total of 32 CPM guidelines that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed. The AGREE II yielded an average score of 67.2%. The domain scores were as follows: scope and purpose (93.3%), stakeholder involvement (50.1%), rigor of development (76.8%), clarity of presentation (79.4%), applicability (40.1%), and editorial independence (63.6%). The average reporting rate of the RIGHT for TCM checklist was 70.0%, with the reporting rates for the seven domains as follows: basic information (94.2%), background (87.9%), evidence (97.5%), recommendation (57.5%), review and quality assurance (11.4%), funding and declaration and management of interests (26.6%), and other information (68.8%). ConclusionsThe methodological and reporting quality of CPGs for CPM have been deemed acceptable since 2020. However, there is still room for improvement, particularly in enhancing the reporting quality to provide clinicians and patients with more effective and comprehensive guidance. Additionally, it may be beneficial to develop a comprehensive reporting checklist specifically tailored for CPM guideline development.

Evaluating clinical practice guidelines for the management of rectal cancer: Did they get it RIGHT?

Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) are crucial tools for clinicians seeking to deliver evidence-based patient care. We utilized the Reporting Items for practice Guidelines in HealThcare (RIGHT) checklist to assess the reporting quality of CPGs addressing the management of rectal cancer. Four multidisciplinary rectal cancer CPGs published 2017-2022 were evaluated: American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). We quantitatively assessed each CPG using the RIGHT checklist and qualitative analysis was performed to generate common themes. RIGHT checklist items fulfilled by each CPG ranged from 12 to 17 (out of 22). Each guideline demonstrated unique categories of weakness: ASCRS in Basic Information (1 of 4 items), ESMO in Evidence (1 of 3), NCCN in Recommendations (1 of 3), and NICE in Review and Quality Assurance (0 of 2). Common themes that emerged included sprase discussion on the financial aspects of rectal cancer management and lack of transparency in formulating recommendations. Despite their variability, each of the 22 checklist elements are present in contemporary CPGs. Utilizing the RIGHT checklist would allow experts to create guidelines adhering to high-quality reporting standards.

Chinese national clinical practice guidelines on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of early gastric cancer.

Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in the digestive system in China. Few comprehensive practice guidelines for early gastric cancer in China are currently available. Therefore, we created the Chinese national clinical practice guideline for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of early gastric cancer. This clinical practice guideline (CPG) was developed in accordance with the World Health Organization's recommended process and with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) in assessing evidence quality. We used the Evidence to Decision framework to formulate clinical recommendations to minimize bias and increase transparency in the CPG development process. We used the Reporting Items for practice Guidelines in HealThcare (RIGHT) statement and the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) as reporting and conduct guidelines to ensure completeness and transparency of the CPG. This CPG contains 40 recommendations regarding the prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of early gastric cancer based on available clinical studies and guidelines. We provide recommendations for the timing of Helicobacter pylori eradication, screening populations for early gastric cancer, indications for endoscopic resection and surgical gastrectomy, follow-up interval after treatment, and other recommendations. This CPG can lead to optimum care for patients and populations by providing up-to-date medical information. We intend this CPG for widespread adoption to increase the standard of prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of early gastric cancer; thereby, contributing to improving national health care and patient quality of life.

Therapeutic drug monitoring guidelines in oncology: what do we know and how to move forward? Insights from a systematic review.

Compared with anti-infective drugs, immunosuppressants and other fields, the application of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) in oncology is somewhat limited. We aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of TDM guidelines for antineoplastic drugs and to promote the development of individualized drug therapy in oncology. This study type is a systematic review. This study was performed and reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 statement. Databases including PubMed, Embase, the official websites of TDM-related associations and Chinese databases were comprehensively searched up to March 2023. Two investigators independently screened the literature and extracted data. The methodological and reporting quality was evaluated using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT), respectively. Recommendations and quality evaluation results were presented by visual plots. This study was registered in PROSPERO (No. CRD42022325661). A total of eight studies were included, with publication years ranging from 2014 to 2022. From the perspective of guideline development, two guidelines were developed using evidence-based methods. Among the included guidelines, four guidelines were for cytotoxic antineoplastic drugs, three for small molecule kinase inhibitors, and one for antineoplastic biosimilars. Currently available guidelines and clinical practice provided recommendations of individualized medication in oncology based on TDM, as well as influencing factors. With regard to methodological quality based on AGREE II, the average overall quality score was 55.21%. As for the reporting quality by RIGHT evaluation, the average reporting rate was 53.57%. From the perspective of current guidelines, TDM in oncology is now being expanded from cytotoxic antineoplastic drugs to newer targeted treatments. Whereas, the types of antineoplastic drugs involved are still small, and there is still room for quality improvement. Furthermore, the reflected gaps warrant future studies into the exposure-response relationships and population pharmacokinetics models.

Evidence mapping of clinical practice guidelines on nutritional management for pressure injuries and their quality.

The safety and efficacy of nutritional management for pressure injuries (PIs) have been the subjects of ongoing interest. Some evidence demonstrated that nutrition is essential for skin and tissue viability, supporting tissue repair for healing the pressure injury. This investigation aimed to systematically review clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for the nutritional management of PIs and furnish an evidence map to assess research trends and CPG gaps. The PubMed, Embase, and guidelines databases, and society websites were searched for CPGs for the nutritional management of PIs. The basic recommendations for the nutritional management of PIs, method quality, and reporting CPGs quality were identified and imported into Excel. Four researchers independently elucidated each CPG's quality via the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation (AGREE) II instrument and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT) checklist. All bubble charts were generated using Excel software. This review included 12 CPGs with a combined 23 recommendations. The nutrition screening and assessment were summarized on the basis of the PI recommendations for 6 major items, 12 items on nutrition management, and 3 on PI education. The assessed CPGs had mixed quality, and the highest score ± standard deviation based on the clarity of presentation was 83.46 ± 7.62, whereas the lowest mean score based on AGREE II applicability was 53.31 ± 16.90. Field 1 (basic information) in the RIGHT checklist had the greatest reporting rate (68.06%), whereas field 5 (review and quality assurance) had the lowest CPGs quality (41.67%). This investigation furnishes an evidence map and provides new perspectives on the CPGs for the nutritional management of PIs. However, the CPGs included still need improvement, especially in the applicability and editorial independence domains.

Chinese recommendations for the management of fibromyalgia syndrome

Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a common clinical syndrome. At present, the lack of epidemiological data from large-sample studies in our country persists, and there are many difficulties in diagnosis and treatment. It is imperative to formulate diagnosis and treatment guidelines for FMS in our country. As such, a project was jointly initiated by the China Association of Chinese Medicine Rheumatology Society, the Fibromyalgia Research Group of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in Rheumatology and Immunology, and the Capital Institute of Rheumatology and Immunology of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, which adopted the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation grading system and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Health Care for guideline development. Detailed evidence-based recommendations on 11 clinical problems of FMS that concern Chinese first-line physicians are given in the guideline, aiming to encourage the departments of rheumatology, psychology, pain, and other related departments to attach great importance to the comprehensive management, early identification and intervention, and assessment of FMS to improve the quality of life of patients with FMS.

Helicobacter pylori ( H. pylori ) infection is an infectious disease with a prevalence rate of up to 50% worldwide. It can cause indigestion, gastritis, peptic ulcer, and gastric cancer. H. pylori eradication treatment can effectively control disease progression and reduce the risk of the above conditions. However, the escalating trend of antibiotic resistance presents a global challenge for H. pylori eradication. We aim to provide guidance on pharmacological treatment of H. pylori infection. This clinical practice guideline is developed following the World Health Organization's recommended process, adopting Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation in assessing evidence quality, and utilizing Evidence to Decision framework to formulate clinical recommendations, minimizing bias and increasing transparency of the clinical practice guideline development process. We used the Reporting Items for practice Guidelines in HealThcare (RIGHT) statement and The Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) as reporting and conduct guides to ensure the guideline's completeness and transparency. Though decreasing in developed countries, the prevalence of H. pylori remains high in developing countries, causing a major public health burden. This clinical practice guideline contains 12 recommendations concerning pharmacological treatment for H. pylori eradication. Among them, it is worth highlighting that bismuth preparations are inexpensive, safe, and effective, consequently making bismuth quadruple therapy a preferred choice for initial and rescue treatment. In empirical treatment, high-dose dual therapy is equally effective compared with bismuth quadruple therapy. The 12 recommendations in this clinical practice guideline are formed with consideration for stakeholders' values and preferences, resource use, feasibility, and acceptability. Recommendations are generalizable to resource limited settings with similar antibiotic resistance pattern as China, and lower middle-income countries facing comparable sociological and technical challenges. Quality assessment of clinical practice guidelines for the management of wheezing disorders in children.

BACKGROUND: The quality of available clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for childhood wheezing disorders have not been systematically evaluated.METHODS: CPGs were systematically evaluated by four independent reviewers using Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation (AGREE) II instrument and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in HealTHcare (RIGHT) checklist. We calculated the overall agreement among reviewers with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).RESULTS: A total of 35 CPGs published between January 2000 and December 2020 were evaluated. The overall agreement among reviewers was good (ICC 0.85, 95% CI 0.83-0.87). The average CPGs score was 42% (range: 25-79). The mean scores of four domains were low: 37% for Stakeholder Involvement (range: 10-85), 28% for Rigour of Development (range: 42-81), 35% for Applicability (range: 11-73) and 24% for Editorial Independence (range: 0-83). The mean reporting rate of the RIGHT checklist was 31%. The Basic Information domain had the highest reporting rate (65%); the Review and Quality Assurance domain had the lowest rate (3%).CONCLUSIONS: The quality of the CPGs was poor. Greater efforts are needed to improve quality in domains to provide high-quality guidelines that can be used as reliable tools for clinical decision-making.

Clinical guidelines for microwave ablation of spinal metastases.

Spinal metastases are the most common source of morbidity in patients with cancer. Recently, microwave ablation has produced satisfactory results in the management of spinal metastases. However, there is still controversy in terms of clinical treatment, such as indication, power, time, and temperature. To standardize the application of microwave ablation technology and reduce the risk of surgical-related complications in spinal metastases, in this report, we aimed to summarize the current evidence and clinical experience of microwave ablation and developed a clinical guideline, initiated by the Musculoskeletal Tumor Group of the Committee for Minimally Invasive Therapy in Oncology of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach was used in to rate the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendations, and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT) checklist was strictly followed to report the guideline. Finally, 15 evidence-based recommendations were formulated based on the 15 most concerned clinical questions among orthopedic surgeons, oncologists, and interventional radiologists in China. This guideline aims to promote the science-based normalization of microwave ablation for the treatment of spinal metastases.

Chinese Clinical Practice Guidelines in Treating Knee Osteoarthritis by Periarticular Knee Osteotomy.

Unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis (UKOA) is the early stage of knee joint degeneration, which is characterized by unicompartmental degeneration and mostly occurs in medial compartment. Pain and limited motion are main symptoms, which affect patients' life quality. Periarticular knee osteotomy (PKO) for lower extremity alignment correction is an effective treatment for UKOA with abnormal alignment, which could relieve pain and improve joint function by adjusting lower extremity alignment. At present, no clinical guidelines are available for the treatment of UKOA by PKO for lower extremity alignment correction. Experts from the Clinical New Technology Application Committee of the Chinese Hospital Association, Joint Surgery Study Group of the Chinese Orthopaedic Association of the Chinese Medical Association, and Osteoarthritis Study Group of the Chinese Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association formulated these guidelines. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) grading system and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT) were adopted to select 25 most concerning questions. Finally, 25 recommendations were formulated through evidence retrieval, evidence quality evaluation, and the determination of directions and strength of recommendations. Recommendation items 1–5 are indications and contraindications for PKO for lower extremity alignment correction, items 6–21 are surgical methods and principles, item 22 describes 3D printing corrective osteotomy technique, and items 23–25 address the perioperative period, follow‐up management, and other content. These guidelines are designed to improve the normalization and standardization of KOA treatment by PKO for lower extremity alignment correction.

A Protocol of a Guideline to Establish the Evidence Ecosystem of Acupuncture.

This is a protocol for developing a guideline to establish the evidence ecosystem of acupuncture. It describes all steps that will be followed in line with the World Health Organization Handbook for Guideline Development and the Reporting Items for practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT). The key steps included guideline protocol development, guideline registration, systematic review of acupuncture evidence issues, systematic review of methods for establishing evidence ecosystem, survey of acupuncture stakeholders regarding potential acupuncture evidence issues, development of potential items for guidelines, Delphi method for guideline item development, consensus meeting, drafting guideline, peer review, approval, and publishing. This future guideline will help to establish evidence ecosystem of acupuncture, which will facilitate the application of acupuncture in clinical practice.

Guidelines on the treatment with integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine for severe coronavirus disease 2019

Severe Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is characterized by numerous complications, complex disease, and high mortality, making its treatment a top priority in the treatment of COVID-19. Integrated traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western medicine played an important role in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of COVID-19 during the epidemic. However, currently there are no evidence-based guidelines for the integrated treatment of severe COVID-19 with TCM and western medicine. Therefore, it is important to develop an evidence-based guideline on the treatment of severe COVID-19 with integrated TCM and western medicine, in order to provide clinical guidance and decision basis for healthcare professionals, public health personnel, and scientific researchers involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of COVID-19 patients. We developed and completed the guideline by referring to the standardization process of the “WHO handbook for guideline development”, the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system, and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT).

Guideline for the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of cutaneous lupus erythematosus

Cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) is an inflammatory, autoimmune disease encompassing a broad spectrum of subtypes including acute, subacute, chronic and intermittent CLE. Among these, chronic CLE can be further classified into several subclasses of lupus erythematosus (LE) such as discoid LE, verrucous LE, LE profundus, chilblain LE and Blaschko linear LE. To provide all dermatologists and rheumatologists with a practical guideline for the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of CLE, this evidence- and consensus-based guideline was developed following the checklist established by the international Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT) Working Group and was registered at the International Practice Guideline Registry Platform. With the joint efforts of the Asian Dermatological Association (ADA), the Asian Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AADV) and the Lupus Erythematosus Research Center of Chinese Society of Dermatology (CSD), a total of 25 dermatologists, 7 rheumatologists, one research scientist on lupus and 2 methodologists, from 16 countries/regions in Asia, America and Europe, participated in the development of this guideline. All recommendations were agreed on by at least 80% of the 32 voting physicians. As a consensus, diagnosis of CLE is mainly based on the evaluation of clinical and histopathological manifestations, with an exclusion of SLE by assessment of systemic involvement. For localized CLE lesions, topical corticosteroids and topical calcineurin inhibitors are first-line treatment. For widespread or severe CLE lesions and (or) cases resistant to topical treatment, systemic treatment including antimalarials and (or) short-term corticosteroids can be added. Notably, antimalarials are the first-line systemic treatment for all types of CLE, and can also be used in pregnant patients and pediatric patients. Second-line choices include thalidomide, retinoids, dapsone and MTX, whereas MMF is third-line treatment. Finally, pulsed-dye laser or surgery can be added as fourth-line treatment for localized, refractory lesions of CCLE in cosmetically unacceptable areas, whereas belimumab may be used as fourth-line treatment for widespread CLE lesions in patients with active SLE, or recurrence of ACLE during tapering of corticosteroids. As for management of the disease, patient education and a long-term follow-up are necessary. Disease activity, damage of skin and other organs, quality of life, comorbidities and possible adverse events are suggested to be assessed in every follow-up visit, when appropriate.

Quality of clinical practice guidelines in Japan remains low: A cross-sectional meta-epidemiological study

ObjectivesWe aimed to evaluate the characteristics, quality, and related factors of the Japanese Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) published in recent years. Study design and settingIn this cross-sectional, meta-epidemiological study, we conducted a Google search for CPGs published by 30 Japanese medical societies that are the basis for training specialties between 2018 and 2019. We used the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation II (AGREE II) tool and the Reporting Items for practice Guidelines in HealThcare (RIGHT) statement to evaluate the quality. ResultsWe included 53 systematic review-based CPGs. The median score was 0.54 (IQR, 0.38-0.62) for Stakeholder involvement, 0.57 (IQR, 0.51–0.66) in Rigor of development, 0.33 (IQR 0.21–0.46) in Applicability, and 0.63 (IQR 0.46–0.73) in Editorial independence. The number of guideline developers/clinical question ratio (odds ratio [OR]: 4.14, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.97, 8.70) and the adopted guideline development methods (OR: 3.69, 95% CI: 1.14, 12.0) were significantly related to the Rigor of development. ConclusionThe quality of Japanese CPGs published in recent years remains low. Our study suggests that increasing contributors and adopting the latest guideline development methods at the beginning of the project may improve the quality of the Japanese CPGs.

Evaluation of the reporting quality of clinical practice guidelines on melanoma using the RIGHT checklist.

BackgroundThe International Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT) instrument was launched in 2016 to improve the reporting of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs). We aimed to systematically evaluate the reporting quality of CPGs on melanoma using RIGHT.MethodsWe systematically searched electronic databases, guideline databases and medical society websites until November 2020 to identify guidelines for melanoma published since 2018. The reporting quality of included guidelines was assessed by calculating the percentages of the 35 items of the RIGHT checklist that were appropriately reported. We stratified the results by selected characteristics to describe the correlation of these factors with reporting quality.ResultsA total of 20 guidelines were identified and analyzed. The mean reporting rate was greater than 50% in five of the seven domains of the RIGHT checklist; the remaining two domains (Other information, Review and quality assurance) both had a mean reporting rate of 35.0%. The mean overall reporting rate was 63.7%. No CPG considered equity, feasibility or acceptability of the recommendations (item 14c), and only one CPG described the role of funders (item 18b). Guidelines that reported funding or were published in higher-impact journals tended to have a higher reporting quality, whereas the reporting rate in the one included Chinese-language CPG was low.ConclusionsReporting quality of melanoma CPGs tends to be relatively good. The CPGs developed in China were however an exception. The use of the 2016 RIGHT tool in guideline development should be encouraged to support rigorous and transparent reporting.

Evaluation of the reporting quality of clinical practice guidelines on prostate cancer using the RIGHT checklist.

BackgroundThe International Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT) statement is a set of recommendations for reporting in clinical practice guidelines (CPGs). We aimed to use RIGHT to evaluate the reporting quality of CPGs on prostate cancer.MethodsWe systematically searched literature databases and websites from January 1, 2018 to December 1, 2020 to identify CPGs on prostate cancer. Two investigators reviewed the identified articles and assessed the reporting quality independently by using the RIGHT checklist. We reported the proportions of guidelines that complied with each of the 35 RIGHT checklist item and the mean reporting compliance percentages for each of the seven domains of RIGHT.ResultsA total of 38 CPGs were included. The mean overall reporting rate over the included CPGs was 51.6%. Eighteen items were reported by more than half of the guidelines four items (1a 3, 7a and 13a) were reported by all guidelines. Items 7b (10.5%), 13b (10.5%), 14c (13.2%), and 18b (7.9%) had the lowest reporting proportions. The mean reporting rates in each RIGHT domain were 74.6% for “Basic Information”, 26.3% for “Review and quality assurance”, 59.9% for “Background”, 43.7% for “Evidence”, 43.2% for “Recommendations”, 43.4% for “Funding and declaration and management of interests”, and 43.0% for “Other information”.ConclusionsThe overall adherence of CPGs on prostate cancer to RIGHT checklist is poor. Following the RIGHT checklist during the development of the guideline could improve the quality of reporting in the future.
