Public Landscape Regeneration Design Strategy in the Old City Reconstruction Based on the Restoration Ecology

There are two most important things in old town reconstruction: the functional reconstruction and landscape regeneration. Purpose is to restore its ability of sustainable development. In landscape architecture, planning industry refers to the land for a certain range of perceived visual things and events , as well as the art of relationship with the surrounding space organization. What is the public landscape, the author thinks that the public landscape is within the category of landscape, is open to the general public, is the landscape place for public use, enjoy and entertainment. Such as city square, commercial landscape, street landscape, residential landscape,, mountain landscape, waterfront landscape, etc.Old city reconstruction of four kinds of modes: completely torn down; keep the old city, nearby building auxiliary city; the continuation of historical context, the whole old as sweet; keep the old appearance, update of internal functions. Four patterns, the old as before and update the internal function of two models design provides a platform for regeneration. Environmental regulation is the foundation in the old city reconstruction, public landscape construction is the key, the public landscape regeneration can be designed on the basis of the original resources; using the landscape design methods to existing resources for rebuilding, expansion or repair, realize the value of reuse. The old town has a lot of historic culture, which is the soul of the city, in the process of public landscape regeneration design, place spirit of the city is also the key in the process of transformation. Both the pursuit of enjoyment on the vision and the pursuit of the heart of comfort, regenerative designs are effective methods.

This paper tries to extend the concept of menes to the conservation and inheritance of traditional architectural culture from the perspective of biological gene genetics and by means of analogy and deduction. It aims at conserving and inheriting the historical culture of architecture and preserving the historical architectural heritage so as to promote the sustainable and harmonious development of architectures, landscape and environment.

Image based 3D city modeling : Comparative study

Abstract. 3D city model is a digital representation of the Earth’s surface and it’s related objects such as building, tree, vegetation, and some manmade feature belonging to urban area. The demand of 3D city modeling is increasing rapidly for various engineering and non-engineering applications. Generally four main image based approaches were used for virtual 3D city models generation. In first approach, researchers were used Sketch based modeling, second method is Procedural grammar based modeling, third approach is Close range photogrammetry based modeling and fourth approach is mainly based on Computer Vision techniques. SketchUp, CityEngine, Photomodeler and Agisoft Photoscan are the main softwares to represent these approaches respectively. These softwares have different approaches & methods suitable for image based 3D city modeling. Literature study shows that till date, there is no complete such type of comparative study available to create complete 3D city model by using images. This paper gives a comparative assessment of these four image based 3D modeling approaches. This comparative study is mainly based on data acquisition methods, data processing techniques and output 3D model products. For this research work, study area is the campus of civil engineering department, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (India). This 3D campus acts as a prototype for city. This study also explains various governing parameters, factors and work experiences. This research work also gives a brief introduction, strengths and weakness of these four image based techniques. Some personal comment is also given as what can do or what can’t do from these softwares. At the last, this study shows; it concluded that, each and every software has some advantages and limitations. Choice of software depends on user requirements of 3D project. For normal visualization project, SketchUp software is a good option. For 3D documentation record, Photomodeler gives good result. For Large city reconstruction; CityEngine is a good product. Agisoft Photoscan software creates much better 3D model with good texture quality and automatic processing. So this image based comparative study is useful for 3D city user community. Thus this study will provide a good roadmap for geomatics user community to create photo-realistic virtual 3D city model by using image based techniques.

Building recognition in urban environments: A survey of state-of-the-art and future challenges

Building recognition in urban environments aims to identify different buildings in a large-scale image dataset. This identification facilitates the annotation of any visual object to a building’s façade and is an essential step in a variety of applications, such as automatic target detection in surveillance, real-time robot localization and visual navigation, architectural design, and 3D city reconstruction. Because of its importance, a significant number of building recognition systems have been proposed in recent years. Nevertheless, there is no systematic survey of building recognition in urban environments yet. To this end, we present a comprehensive review of the dominant building recognition systems by first grouping them into two categories: (i) effectiveness approaches that mainly focus on the improvement of recognition performance and (ii) efficiency methods that attempt to enhance the recognition speed. Effectiveness approaches are further categorized into two different groups: (i) feature representation-based algorithms and (ii) wide baseline matching-based methods. Efficiency methods are divided into: (i) dimensionality reduction-based methods and (ii) clustering-based algorithms. We provide analysis and discussions on each type of method and summarize their advantages and weaknesses in depth. Furthermore, we outline future research directions and associated challenges in this promising area. This survey can serve as a starting point for new researchers in building recognition to generate new ideas according to their specific requirements.

Study on Recycling Utilization of Waste Concrete

In the process of urban development, with the reconstruction of old city, a lot of waste concrete will be generated. At the same time, civil engineering construction, earthquakes and wars also can generate a large number of waste concrete. The existence of waste concrete will directly pollute environment and occupy the land resources. The recycling utilization of waste concrete is benefit to environmental protection and saving resources, and is also benefit to realize the sustainable development of building materials. Waste concrete research situations in China and abroad were introduced. The crushing and regeneration technology of waste concrete were studied. The material properties of recycled concrete were analyzed and some advices about development of recycled concrete in China were presented.

Segmentation and Classification of Point Clouds from Dense Aerial Image Matching

In the recent years, 3D city reconstruction is one of the active researches in the field of photogrammetry. The goal of this work is to improve and extend surface growing based segmentation in the X-Y-Z image in the form of 3D structured data with combination of spectral information of RGB and grayscale image to extract building roofs, streets and vegetation. In order to process 3D point clouds, hybrid segmentation is carried out in both object space and image space. Our experiments on three case studies verify that updating plane parameters and robust least squares plane fitting improves the results of building extraction especially in case of low accurate point clouds. In addition, region growing in image space has been derived to the fact that grayscale image is more flexible than RGB image and results in more realistic building roofs.

O grande “conflito do centro” política e estética dos projetos de urbanismo de pós-reunificação em Berlim

É difícil encontrar na Europa, ou em qualquer outro lugar, uma metrópole onde a estrutura urbanística e a Arquitetura tenham se modificado com tal frequência e drasticidade, como aconteceu em Berlim no século 20. Durante esse século, a cidade serviu como capital estatal para cinco sistemas políticos diferentes e sofreu a separação física, pelo muro de Berlim, por 28 anos. Pouco tempo depois da reunificação da Alemanha, em 1989, Berlim foi nomeada a capital da Alemanha unificada. Isso provocou uma grande atividade de construção dos ministérios federais e outras construções governamentais, a maioria delas levada para o centro velho (“Mitte”), onde os antigos regimes de várias ideologias - do Império autoritário (1871-1918) até o governo autoritário comunista na República Democrática da Alemanha (1949-89) - tinham construído sua maior representação estatal arquitetônica. Todas essas épocas ainda têm suas memórias concentradas no distrito Mitte. Mas não somente de construções governamentais é formado o centro de Berlim - sem contar que se transformou drasticamente nos últimos 20 anos: havia também projetos culturais, comerciais e industriais e, é claro, prédios de apartamentos, que foram projetados e realizados. Com todas essas razões para construção, vem à tona a questão sobre o que fazer com os prédios antigos e como construir novos. De 1991 em diante, as autoridades responsáveis pelo Urbanismo de Berlim desenvolveram diretrizes de construção sob os moldes de um plano piloto para o centro (Planwerk Innenstadt), que foi baseado no conceito geral (Leitbild) de 1980, chamado "Reconstrução Crítica das Cidades Europeias”. Muitos críticos, arquitetos e teóricos chamaram o conceito, que, em certo âmbito, representava tendências políticas conservadoras ou mesmo reacionárias na Alemanha unificada, de doutrina proibitiva. Este artigo procura reconstruir as linhas majoritárias dessa discussão, para avaliar a influência das políticas estéticas no Urbanismo da pós-unificação de Berlim.

TOWARDS 4D VIRTUAL CITY RECONSTRUCTION FROM LIDAR POINT CLOUD SEQUENCES

Abstract. In this paper we propose a joint approach on virtual city reconstruction and dynamic scene analysis based on point cloud sequences of a single car-mounted Rotating Multi-Beam (RMB) Lidar sensor. The aim of the addressed work is to create 4D spatio-temporal models of large dynamic urban scenes containing various moving and static objects. Standalone RMB Lidar devices have been frequently applied in robot navigation tasks and proved to be efficient in moving object detection and recognition. However, they have not been widely exploited yet for geometric approximation of ground surfaces and building facades due to the sparseness and inhomogeneous density of the individual point cloud scans. In our approach we propose an automatic registration method of the consecutive scans without any additional sensor information such as IMU, and introduce a process for simultaneously extracting reconstructed surfaces, motion information and objects from the registered dense point cloud completed with point time stamp information.

Apres que l’ouragan Katrina eut inflige des degâts serieux a la Nouvelle-Orleans en aout 2005, citoyens, journalistes, et urbanistes partout aux Etats-Unis se focaliserent sur la reconstruction de la ville. Beaucoup de gens firent le rapprochement entre cette catastrophe naturelle et la destruction des villes bombardees pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, et, comme bien d’urbanistes apres la guerre, ils se feliciterent de cette occasion de construire une nouvelle ville, superieure a la precedente. On reclama immediatement un nouveau « plan Marshall » afin de faire financer le projet par le gouvernement federal. Cet article examine les similitudes et les differences entre la reconstruction des villes allemandes apres 1945 et la Nouvelle-Orleans apres Katrina. Il explore les differents modes de financement, les types de propositions que generent les urbanistes, et la nature du processus de planification.

Reliable registration of LiDAR data and aerial images without orientation parameters

PurposeThe fusion of aerial imagery and LiDAR point clouds are considered as one of the most promising approaches for many fields, such as 3D city reconstruction and tree detection. The purpose of this paper is to achieve reliable registering LiDAR data and aerial images without orientation parameters based on a progressive optimizing process.Design/methodology/approachFirst, combination of edges and their corners is extracted and considered as registration primitives; then search conjugate primitives globally with a suitable buffer of each edge; after that, a progressive algorithm is adopted to optimize the registration; finally, error analysis and data fusion are carried out.FindingsAfter a progressive optimum algorithm, the number and the distribution of the matched pairs are sufficient for generation of reliable and accurate orientation parameters. The results show RMS of residual errors gets close to one DSM cell, which is equal to or even better than that in other literatures.Originality/valueThe method proposed in the paper is feasible and effective to generate reliable and accurate registering results.

After researched and analyzed the situation and characteristics of the city's reconstruction in three represents which are the new county seat of Beichuan, Weizhou in Wenchuan and Dujiangyan City, the author proposed 10 selected evaluation elements, in order to supply a technical reference for building evaluation system and carrying out the evaluation.

Municipal Engineering Planning and Design of Old City Renewal — Case Study of Hengdaohezi Town

Along with the increasing development of Chinese urbanization, there have been a lot of cities facing the problem of old city renewal. However, during the process of re-plan and reconstruction of the old city, there is a series of changing that refers to the changing of land-use function, adjustment of land layout and the improvement of development intensity, which would change the load and setting of the urban infrastructures. Therefore, how to renew the municipal facilities safely and effectively to guarantee the routine life of people has become a crucial problem in the old city renewal. This paper takes the case study of Hengdaohezi town emphasizing the discussion on re-planning the municipal facilities in the process of old city renewal. Here, the author suggested that municipal facility planning should be carried out under the premise of safety and reliability. In the process of analysis, it should give consideration on the change of urban function and character as well, in order to make the municipal facility planning more scientific and reasonable providing support for the old city renewal from the perspective of municipal engineering.

A SPUR to action?: The Society for the Promotion of Urban Renewal, ‘anti-scatter’ and the crisis of city reconstruction, 1957–1963

Mounting concern about the slow progress of the drive to reconstruct Britain's cities in the late 1940s and 1950s led to a sustained debate about strategies and priorities. This paper offers insight into the climate of ideas of a key period in the recent past by considering the work of the Society for the Promotion of Urban Renewal (SPUR). A pressure group that campaigned for resuscitation of urban reconstruction under the banner of ‘urban renewal’, SPUR staged exhibitions and published manifestoes that reasserted core urban values, reconfigured decentralization on an intraurban basis, proposed multi-level circulation systems and, latterly, sought to redress the balance of rehabilitation and conservation strategies against comprehensive redevelopment. After a contextual introduction, the opening section of this paper clarifies two key concepts – ‘reconstruction’ and ‘renewal’ – that shaped thinking about the replanning of British cities in the early postwar period. The ensuing sections analyse the origins and founding ideals of SPUR and examine its key projects and manifestoes. The conclusion reflects on consensus and plurality in the group's work in the context of wider currents of thought about urban renewal.

Visual representations have often played a crucial role in imagining future urban forms. In the aftermath of the Second World War, a noteworthy new genre of urban plan was published in Britain, most deploying seductively optimistic illustrations of ways forward not only for the reconstruction of bomb-damaged towns and cities but also for places left largely undamaged. This paper assesses the contribution of visual elements in this,process with a detailed case study of the maps, statistical charts, architectural drawings and photographs enrolled into the 1945 City of Manchester Plan. The cultural production of these visual representations is evaluated. Our analysis interprets the form, symbology and active work of different imagery in the process of reimagining Manchester, but also assesses the role of these images as markers of a particular moment in the cultural economy of the city. This analysis is carried out in relation to the ethos of the Plan as a whole.
