Readers’ letters from abroad, in Russian, addressed to B. L. Pasternak after the publication of his novel “Doctor Zhivago”

The article examines the foreign readers' correspondence to B.L. Pasternak, written in Russian in 1958–1960. The work is based on the materials of the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art. The article lists editions of the novel “Doctor Zhivago” available to western readers in the Russian original (including pirated copies) and in foreign languages. These Russian-language letters are systematized according to the content and purpose of the letter, the sender’s country of residence, the sender’s nationality and cultural affiliation (be it a Russian emigrant or a foreigner who knows Russian). There are noted various opinions of readers about the poetics of the novel “Doctor Zhivago”, their questions about the work, the discussion on the Jewish question and the perception of Pasternak’s own personality among Russian emigration. The author examines Pasternak’s attitude to readers’ letters expressed by him in lyrical and epistolary forms. In addition to readers’ responses, Pasternak's letter to the amateur translator S. Weinberg (1959) is published for the first time.

Service and clinical impacts of reader bias in breast cancer screening: a retrospective study.

To determine factors influencing reader agreement in breast screening and investigate the relationship between agreement level and patient outcomes. Reader pair agreement for 83 265 sets of mammograms from the Scottish Breast Screening service (2015-2020) was evaluated using Cohen's kappa statistic. Each mammography examination was read by two readers, per routine screening practice, with the second initially blinded but able to choose to view the first reader's opinion. If the two readers disagreed, a third reader arbitrated. Variation in reader agreement was examined by: whether the reader acted as the first or second reader, reader experience, and recall, cancer detection and arbitration recall rate. Readers' opinions varied by whether they acted as the first or second reader. Furthermore, reader 2 was more likely to agree with reader 1 if reader 1 was more experienced than they were, and less likely to agree if they themselves were more experienced than reader 1 (P < .001). Agreement was not significantly associated with cancer detection rate, overall recall rate or arbitration recall rates (P > .05). Lower agreement between readers led to a higher arbiter workload (P < .001). In mammography screening, the second reader's opinion is influenced by the first reader's opinion, with the degree of influence dependent on the readers' relative experience levels. While less-experienced readers relied on their more experienced reading partner, no adverse impact on service outcomes was observed. Allowing access to the first reader's opinion may benefit newly qualified readers, but reduces independent evaluation, which may lower cancer detection rates.

SENTIMENT ANALYSIS USING LONG TERM MEMORY (LSTM) BOOK CASE STUDY: UNSOLICITED ADVICE FOR MURDERERS BY VERA WONG'S

Reading books is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress. In today's digital era, access to finding and buying books is getting easier, so reader reviews are important in choosing books that match interests. However, with a large number of reviews, Natural Language Processing (NLP) with the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) method is used to help analyze positive and negative sentiments from many book reviews. This sentiment analysis is useful for readers to evaluate the quality of books, as well as for authors and sellers to find out the opinions of readers and improve the quality of their work. In this study, the book review dataset "Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers" from the Goodreads website is used, which is then divided into training data and validation data with a ratio of 75%: 25%. The Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) method is used to analyze the sentiment of the reviews. The model architecture built consists of Embedding Layer, LSTM Layer with 128 neuron units, 3 Dense Layer with ReLU activation function, 3 Dropout Layer, and Fully Connected Layer with and Sigmoid activation function, Binary Cross Entropy loss function, and RMSprop optimizer. The model training process was conducted with 30 epochs. The evaluation results show that the model achieved an accuracy of 90%, indicating the model performs relatively well in correctly classifying positive sentiments.

Attention-grabbing news coverage: Violent images of the Black Lives Matter movement and how they attract user attention on Reddit.

Portrayals of violence are common in contemporary media reporting; they attract public attention and influence the reader's opinion. In the particular context of a social movement such as Black Lives Matter (BLM), the portrayal of violence in news coverage attracts public attention and can affect the movement's development, support, and public perception. Research on the relationship between digital news content featuring violence and user attention on social media has been scarce. This paper analyzes the relationship between violence in online reporting on BLM and its effect on user attention on the social media platform Reddit. The analysis focuses on the portrayal of violence in images used in BLM-related digital news coverage shared on Reddit. The dataset is comprised of 5,873 news articles with images. The classification of violent images is based on a VGG19 convolutional neural network (CNN) trained on a comprehensive dataset. The results suggest that what significantly affects user attention in digital news content is not the display of violence in images; rather, it is negative article titles, the news outlet's political leanings and level of factual reporting, and platform affordances that significantly affect user attention. Thus, this paper adds to the understanding of user attention distributions online and paves the way for future research in this field.

ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF CONTROLLING THE TURNOVER OF DIGITAL FINANCIAL ASSETS

The authors set the goal of their research to form the reader's opinion about the need to use modern technologies for regulating and supervising the turnover of digital financial assets. To achieve this , the following tasks were solved: 1. The article provides an overview of the events organized by Rosfinmonitoring, which determine the control over the turnover of digital financial assets. 2. The main elements of digital financial assets, the properties of their turnover and measures to counteract the laundering of proceeds from crime are analyzed. 2. The analysis of classifications of blockchain platforms is given. The study is presented in the form of an analytical review. The conducted research allowed us to draw conclusions: 1. the thesis is true about the unconditional fulfillment of the requirement to disclose information about the buyer of cryptocurrencies, regardless of the technologies used; 2. the emergence of new risks in the field of money laundering obtained by criminal means becomes more intense with the increase in the number of technologies being introduced in the sphere of digital assets turnover, despite the formal signs of their compliance with the regulatory rules established at some initial stage; 3. the activity of cyber fraudsters, which is increasing against the background of the emergence of new technologies, requires the use and development of new modern technologies of regulation and supervision.

The Reader and the Library in the Context of Communication between Science and Society

The dissemination of scientific knowledge is one of the urgent social tasks today. As part of the interaction between science and society, representatives of the scientific environment create information content, the dissemination of which becomes the task of social institutions, including libraries. The article deeply analyzes part of the results of a survey of readers of public libraries concerning the possibility of the latter’s participation in the communication of science and society in any possible form. The material for the study was a questionnaire survey on the attitude of readers of public libraries to science, conducted in March – April 2022 within the framework of the research project “The current state and trends in the development of communications between Russian science and society”. The opinion of readers of Novosibirsk public libraries is studied, concerning priority ways of obtaining information about scientific achievements, attending popular scientific events and opportunities for access to modern scientific knowledge through the library, while considerable attention is paid to mass events as a form of interaction of communicators in the field of science with society. The following conclusions were made in the study: readers of public libraries are loyal to the potential of libraries for the development of communication between science and society; for them, the library as a means of obtaining information is second after Internet in importance; the library can be considered as one of the platforms for visiting popular science events, and its efforts to strengthen communication links between science and society. They should be aimed at more active cooperation with representatives of the scientific world.

Traces of Stefan Zweig Reception in Albanian

The main purpose of this study article is to examine and to evaluate Stefan Zweig’s work in Albanian, as well as the perception of Albanian’s readers. This article attempt to explain the popularity of S. Zweig from 1939, when his first short story was translated in Albanian. While before the sixties the reception of Zweig’s works in Albanian language was modest, later, in the sixties of the last century, the reception of his works, especially short stories, was more intensive. Both Albanian critics and readers were more interested first for his short stories and then for his biographies, portraits, novels and dramas. The recent reception of Zweig’s works in Albanian has been preceded and prepared by many introductions, essays, and articles. His works began to influence even the Albanian writers, especially the works of Sterjo Spase. Hence, we can trace and find certain parallels, similarities, influences and impacts of Zweig’s works in Spase’s works. When Zweig was translated for the first time in Albanian the opinions of both readers, simple reader and of special reader, was qualitative and uncensored. The works of Zweig were read by the readers of such a social class, which were educated in the west. In this context, Zweig was considered as “a hunter of souls” and had many readers in Albania. During the period of 1937-1944, Zweig was not under the censorship. After 1962 the first collection of Zweig’s short stories translated by Mahmut Bobrati and Klio Evangjeli was published. After a couple of years, in 1988, second edition of collected short stories of Zweig, was published translated by Mahmut Bobrati, Robert Schwartz, Enver Fico and Klio Evangjeli. In this year, began the marathon of translations of Zweig’s works in Albania, whereas sometimes there were cases that one work was translated by two different translators.

Nutriologia Medica: Medical Nutriology Comprehensive Textbook

Abstract Objectives To know the opinion of users and readers about the application of Nutriología Médica as a textbook and its use as a reference for the practice of nutritional care in Mexico.To know the opinion of users and readers about the application of Nutriología Médica as a textbook and its use as a reference for the practice of nutritional care in Mexico. Methods Invitation open to students and health professionals from Mexico to evaluate the content and use of the 3rd and 4th editions of Nutriología Médica through an electronic survey designed on the Google Forms platform. Results 197 students and 238 health professionals responded. 80% of the teachers considered that Nutriología Médica is a good tool for the learning of their students. 88.5% of the students considered that the text is appropriate for their level of studies. The 4th edition was better evaluated than the 3rd edition in terms of content, information and organization. Conclusions Nutriología Médica is a book used and recognized by students and health professionals in medicine and nutrition that has favored the teaching of nutrition in Mexico. ФЛОРІАН ЧАРНИШЕВИЧ ЯК ПРЕДСТАВНИК КУЛЬТУРНОЇ ЕЛІТИ ПОЛЬСЬКОГО ЕТНОСУ В АРГЕНТИНІ

The article presents a general analysis of the work of a Polish writer in the emigration of Florian Czarnyszewicz. His place in the culture of the Polish community of Argentina is shown, and the social activity of this extraordinary person is not neglected. An overview of the reception of his work by contemporaries and nowadays is given. The influence of his life path on the directions of creativity is objectified. Czarnyszewicz’s vision of the world around him, certain historical events, artistic and aesthetic analysis of the latter, represented by national-language polyphony in the context of constant aggressive influence of a foreign ethnic language environment, is necessarily objectified by him through individualism or through collective consciousness. In his public and literary activities, the Great Priberezinets implied related, at first glance unrelated, elements of the surrounding reality. As the literary critic Vaclav Lewandowski points out, Czarnyszewicz’s works may seem too anachronistic, in the opinion of readers accustomed to the already established ways of literary presentation. And the presence of such a manner of presentation in the latest literature is difficult to justify. If we look at the work of the author of „Priberezuntsy”, Lewandowski further claims, first of all from the perspective, what was acceptable in the prose of the twenties now seems old-fashioned and antediluvian. Czarnyszewicz is closer in style to Sienkiewicz, Orzeszko or Rodzewycz than to what has become commonplace in later literature.

Peculiarities of Reconstructing Russian Rhyme in English Translations

The article deals with the problem of preserving the rhyme traditional for Russian poetry in translations into English. A brief analysis of Russian and foreign linguists’ works on the theory and practice of poetic translation shows that rhyme in English poetry does not play such a significant role as it does in Russian poetry. Opinions of English-speaking readers coincide with the opinion of translators. However, adequate versions of Russian poems in English with preservation of rhymes of original verses are the preferred type of poetic translation. The article deals with the problem of preserving the rhyme, characteristic of Russian poetry, in translations into English. The purpose of this scientific research is to conduct a brief analysis of the works of Russian and foreign linguists on the theory and practice of poetic translation to reveal the role and significance of the category of rhyme in English and Russian poetry. The author pays special attention to the opinion of translators of Russian poetry into English and English-speaking readers of translated Russian lyrics in the context of preserving rhyme or deviation from it. As a result of the conducted research, the author comes to the conclusion that rhyme does not play such a significant role for foreign linguists and translators as it does for their Russian-speaking counterparts. A more attractive form of poetry for them is vers libre. Consequently, the issues of rhyme reproduction for English translators are not of paramount importance. The main emphasis is on the meaning of the translated text, not its form. Opinions of English-speaking readers coincide with the opinion of translators. In addition, the article presents summary information of the conducted comparative linguistic analysis of 275 poems by B. Okudzhava and their originals. The analysis shows that in percentage terms the number of rhymed translations from the total number of translated texts is about 40%. However, the overwhelming number of English translations of poems Okudzhava - about 60% - belongs to unrhymed translations. Nevertheless, the author of the article emphasizes the need to preserve rhyme in translations as an integral part of the Russian classical verse and believes that adequate versions of Russian poems in English with preservation of original rhyme are the preferred type of poetic translation.

Assessment of radiographic sacroiliitis in anteroposterior lumbar vs conventional pelvic radiographs in axial spondyloarthritis.

The aim was to investigate the reliability and validity of radiographic sacroiliitis assessment in anteroposterior (AP) lumbar radiographs compared with conventional pelvic radiographs in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). Patients from the German Spondyloarthritis Inception Cohort were selected based on the availability of pelvic and AP lumbar radiographs with visible SI joints at baseline and year2. Two readers scored the images independently in a random order according to the modified New York criteria. The sacroiliitis sum score was calculated as the mean of both readers. Patients were classified as radiographic (r-)axSpA if radiographic sacroiliitis of grade ≥2 bilaterally or grade ≥3 unilaterally was present in the opinion of both readers and as non-radiographic (nr-)axSpA otherwise. The reliability and validity of sacroiliitis assessment in AP lumbar radiographs was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), absolute agreement and κ statistics. A total of 226 sets of radiographs were scored from 113 patients included in the study. The ICC for the sacroiliitis sum score was 0.91 at both baseline and year2. A total of 62 (54.9%) and 55 (48.7%) patients were classified as r-axSpA at baseline and 65 (57.5%) and 60 (53.1%) patients at year2 based on evaluation of pelvic and AP lumbar radiographs, respectively. The absolute agreement between the methods on the classification was 84.9 and 85.0% at baseline and year2, respectively, with the κ of 0.70 at both time points. Radiographic sacroiliitis can be assessed in AP lumbar radiographs with a similar reliability to conventional pelvic radiographs.

Trying to take advantage of this opportunity, Bubu Gaming, as an Indonesian digital sports games marketer, initiated "LiveStream Aid 2020" with the theme "PlayFromHome, Stay Safe, Donate." Tirto.id and Kompas.com covered the two-day event. However, researchers interrogate those two news frames and discover different perspectives. Guided by Entman Framing Analysis with the theory of intersectionality, the results obtained indicate the imbalance of identity in those news frames. Tirto.id viewed from the category of structural intersectionality and built the reader's opinion that the government, through Sandiaga Uno, supports these activities. On the other hand, Kompas.com put the name of Pevita Pearce without adequate narrative so that it can be categorized as representational intersectionality.

Hyperrealism as an Artistic Phenomenon in French Literature of the 20th-21st Centuries

The article deals with the concept of hyperrealism in the projection on a fictional work of the 20th-21st centuries. The study is focused on the features and techniques of hyperrealism, inherent in different types of art, which have been reflected in literature, in particular French literature. The period of powerful development of digital technologies made scientists wonder about the essence of reality, and taking into account the fact that the latter can create their own reality, their attitude towards it acquires different, modified features: what I see may be or may not be reality. Thus, the dominant philosophy of this period is the attempt to manipulate reality in various forms of art, both verbal and fine art. Hyperrealism in painting, sculpture, and cinema uses similar techniques. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to find out the techniques and means of hyperrealism in the French literature of the 20th-21st centuries. Works of French writers whose creativity is consonant with the techniques of creating/reproducing excessive reality in a literary text were selected as the illustrative base of the research. The methods of component and linguostylistic analysis, as well as elements of communicative-pragmatic and descriptive analyzes were applied to achieve the desired objective. Thus, in the article the narrative technique of detailing the image is positioned as the dominant technique of hyperrealism in French prose works, functioning at the compositional, linguistic, and syntactic levels of the literary text. It is found out that this technique is accompanied by a detailed description of the photograph as a reflection of the development of photorealism precisely in this period and by a realistic description of the city acquiring forms of working with the map. Detailing that runs through the whole content and structure of a fictional work of art is aimed at the reader, in particular at gaining his/her confidence in the events and/or actions depicted. Herewith, the text has a minimum of evaluative characteristics that could simulate the reader's opinion regarding events and/or actions, since all the detailing is directed to the free judgment of the reader. Therefore, the detail is the key element by which you can grab the reality, because changing the detail gives rise to a new spiral of reality. The content of the article can serve for further studies of modifications of the concept of reality, its dependence on the worldview of a man, and its multidimensionality on the material of works of fiction or other arts from the perspective of psycho or sociolinguistics.

Improving Trust in Research: Supporting Claims with Evidence

AbstractTrust in science is important, and Open Education Studies aims to publish trusted research. Two issues are addressed here: access to the data on which the research is based and how these data are analyzed. Some guidelines from other entities are discussed. As a new journal our guidelines should be influenced by the opinions of readers and authors, and as such we welcome discussion of how to ensure trust in the research OES publishes.

The article examines the functions that modern libraries perform and substantiates the need for transforming and modernizing the space of children’s libraries in order to make them more appealing, improve their image, and attract the interest of the general public to this type of institutions. The following key trends of information and library services for children are outlined: the coexistence of electronic and printed books in the life of a modern child; the evolution of practical reading skills in the modern world (associated with the use of smartphones, personal computers, tablets, etc.); new forms and methods of working with children and adolescents in the context of digital technology development; changes in the nature of library and information services, and the new competence requirements for librarians due to the introduction of new technologies, including Web 2.0; an increasing transfer of library services to the virtual space. The paper presents methodological approaches of participating sociology that are most suitable for studying children’s views on possible changes in libraries. The authors demonstrate the advantages of applying child-friendly methods (drawing method, unfinished sentence method) and conducting polls for adolescents. The methods presented in the article are used to collect and study the opinions of readers from different age groups. It is easy for groups of adolescents to fill out an anonymous questionnaire. The most suitable method for preschool-age readers is the drawing technique, which allows a child who has not yet mastered the skill of written language to give answers to the researcher’s questions in an accessible and understandable form. For primary school children, the drawing technique can be supplemented by the method of unfinished sentences. It is also noted that, when composing surveys for children and adolescents, the basic approaches and requirements to compiling questionnaires for minors should be observed.

Examining the relationship between academic book citations and Goodreads reader opinion and rating

Although the traditional bibliometric citation database is an established academic impact assessment source, in this paper, we examine the role of social media impact on academic books. We identified the highly cited books in Scopus and compared the citations with ratings and reviews on the Goodreads website. R stat was used to extract the data from Goodreads website. We found that there is an uneven distribution of Goodreads rating and reviews. Social science books received the highest number of user’s ratings, reviews and citations. The study finds that there is no relationship between citation counts and Goodreads ratings and reviews count in social science books. Although social science books generated the highest number of studies and engagement by the readers, there seems to be no evidence to suggest that this engagement results in an academic citation. Whereas, a correlation was observed between health science books citations and Goodreads overall rating, as with physical science book reviews and Google Scholar citation counts.

Closet ‘Corbynistas’, they are often working in inner cities, rubbing shoulders with more reactionary colleagues from the shires. Vulgar caricatures, of course, but GPs are understandably suspicious of grand plans. The utilitarian values underpinning population-oriented care and budget-holding are sometimes at odds with the individualistic nature of the doctor–patient relationship.
