Complex dynamic analysis of a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model in the network and non-network environment

This paper considers an improved two-dimensional reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with time delay. Firstly, the distribution of the equilibrium points of the system and the existence conditions are discussed. Secondly, under the assumption of the existence of equilibrium points, the linear approximations of the system in both network and non-network settings are derived. Thirdly, the Turing instability conditions for both non-delay and delay systems are investigated, including cases of diffusion-induced and delay-induced instabilities. Fourthly, amplitude equations are derived based on the non-delay system. Finally, extensive numerical simulations are conducted to validate and illustrate the theoretical results, and to analyze and explain their practical significance. The above results effectively demonstrate that the theoretical findings, simulations, and natural reality are consistent. The numerical modeling conducted on the network structure based on the Monte Carlo method exhibits a more diverse range of dynamic behaviors in the parameter of the Holling III functional response function.

Dynamics of a delayed reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with nonlocal competition and double Allee effect in prey

In this paper, we study the effects of the nonlocal competition and double Allee effect in prey on a diffusive predator–prey model. We investigate the local stability of coexistence equilibrium in the predator–prey model by analyzing the eigenvalue spectrum. We study the consequence of double Allee effect on the prey population. Also, we discuss the existence of Hopf bifurcation under different parameters by using the gestation time delay of predators as a bifurcation parameter and analyzing the distribution of eigenvalues. By utilizing the normal form method and center manifold theorem, we have given some conditions that could determine the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions. Through our research, we obtain that the double Allee effect can affect the coexistence of prey and predator and induce periodic oscillations of the densities of prey and predator. In addition, the nonlocal competition can also affect the stability and homogeneity of the solutions, but may receive the consequences of the Allee effect as well as time delay. In the numerical simulation part, we further demonstrate the correctness of this conclusion by comparison.

Stationary distribution of a stochastic reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with additional food and fear effect

Providing additional food supplements to predators is one of the crucial and effective tools for biological conservation and pest management, which has been widely recognized and validated by theoretical and experimental scientists. This paper focuses on the existence and uniqueness of stationary distribution of a stochastic reaction–diffusion predator–prey model that incorporates additional food for predator and fear effect for prey. It reveals that spatial diffusion is beneficial for maintaining the steady state of the model, whereas environment white noise has a negative effect.

Impacts of nonlocal fear effect and delay on a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model

In this research, we examine a predator–prey model in which nonlocal fear plays a role alongside delay in a reaction–diffusion framework. We integrate two delays into the model to account for the lag between when fear starts affecting the growth rate of prey and when it starts affecting the growth rate of the predator through feedback. The first step is to investigate local and global stability and bifurcations in the equilibrium states of the nondelayed model. We explore the Hopf bifurcation in the delayed model using the delay as the bifurcation parameter. Our theoretical findings are then backed up by certain simulations. It reveals how the system, depending on its level of anxiety and the time delays involved, displays a wide range of spatiotemporal patterns.

Pattern dynamics in a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with Allee effect based on network and non-network environments

In this paper, we establish a predator–prey model with Beddington–Deangelis functional response. For this model, firstly, the existence of the positive equilibrium point and the conditions for the Turing instability are studied. Then the amplitude equation is derived through weakly nonlinear analysis, and the relationship between the selection of pattern and the coefficients of the amplitude equation is obtained. At the same time, through a large number of numerical simulations, we verify the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. Actually, we mainly choose to change the values of parameters r and d2 to study the sensitivity of the pattern to them. When the pattern tends to be stable, there could be the pattern of spots, coexistence of spots and stripes or stripes. Even if they are spot pattern, the spot density will also be different due to the selection of parameters. Finally, we simulate and compare that the network structure(mainly BA and WS) has a certain influence on the time required for pattern stabilization and the distribution of node density. The final results show that the growth rate of prey, diffusion coefficients and network structure all play an important role in the formation of Turing pattern.

Dynamic properties of a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with nonlinear harvesting: A linear and weakly nonlinear analysis

In this work, we have studied the spatiotemporal dynamics of a predator–prey model with selective nonlinear saturated harvesting of both species. The study of the non-diffusive system includes analytical and numerical analysis of local and global bifurcations. Bifurcation analysis of the non-diffusive system unveils that the system may exhibit transcritical, Hopf, saddle–node and homoclinic bifurcation with increased carrying capacity and harvesting efforts. The simulation results further reveal that the paradox of enrichment may disappear in a harvested system for a higher value of carrying capacity. The spatiotemporal study consists of an analysis of different pattern-forming instabilities. A critical ratio of the diffusivities of predator to prey for the occurrence of Turing instability is established. Further, a weakly nonlinear analysis is provided to derive the amplitude equation and predict the form of the pattern. The key highlight of the work is that prey harvesting facilitates spatiotemporal chaos, and predator diffusion controls it. Furthermore, intensive prey harvesting forces spatial segregation, whereas predator harvesting relaxes it. It is also observed that spatial segregation enriches the overall species biomass. A unique observation of this study is the occurrence and nonoccurrence of spatiotemporal chaos in the Hopf-Turing parametric space.

Diffusion-Induced Instability of the Periodic Solutions in a Reaction-Diffusion Predator-Prey Model with Dormancy of Predators

A reaction-diffusion predator-prey model with the dormancy of predators is considered in this paper. We are concerned with the long-time behaviors of the solutions of this system. We divided our investigations into two cases: for the ODEs system, we study the existence and stability of the equilibrium solutions and derive precise conditions on system parameters so that the system can undergo Hopf bifurcations around the positive equilibrium solution. Moreover, the properties of Hopf bifurcation are studied in detail. For the reaction-diffusion system, we are able to derive conditions on the diffusion coefficients so that the spatially homogeneous Hopf bifurcating periodic solutions can undergo diffusion-triggered instability. To support our theoretical analysis, we also include several numerical results.

Influence of Allee effect on the spatiotemporal behavior of a diffusive predator–prey model with Crowley–Martin type response function

The present paper is dealt with a predator–prey model in which the growth of the prey population is influenced by the Allee effect while the predator species are contended with the prey population following the Crowley–Martin type response function. The proposed model is comprehensively analyzed in terms of stability and manifestation of bifurcation of the system. The system unveils the bi-stability together with the existence of a separatrix. In view of the eminence of spatial ecology, the dynamical complexity emanating from the induction of the Allee effect in prey species of a Crowley–Martin reaction–diffusion predator–prey model is also investigated profoundly. The results of numerical simulations reveal that the present system dynamics is motivated by both the Allee effect and diffusion-controlled pattern formation growth to hot spots, stripe-hot spot mixtures, stripes, labyrinthine, stripe-cold spot mixtures, and cold spots replication. The theoretical consequences of the spatiotemporal model under study are validated through numerical simulations.

BIFURCATIONS AND HYDRA EFFECTS IN A REACTION-DIFFUSION PREDATOR-PREY MODEL WITH HOLLING Ⅱ FUNCTIONAL RESPONSE

In this paper, through bifurcation analysis and numerical simulations, we consider a reaction-diffusion predator-prey model with Holling Ⅱ functional response to analyze the existence of hydra effect and the relationship between mortality independent of predator density and different steady-state solutions of the system. The hydra effect, which is a paradoxical result in both theoretical and applied ecology, refers to the phenomenon in which an increase in population mortality enhances its own population size. We investigate the existence of the hydra effect when the positive equilibrium point is locally asymptotically stable and Turing unstable. Meanwhile, numerical simulations verify the existence of the hydra effect when the one-dimensional reaction-diffusion system has a spatially inhomogeneous steady-state solution. In addition, we introduce the existence of the Turing bifurcation, the Hopf bifurcation, and the Turing-Hopf bifurcation with the parameters $ d_{2} $ and $ m_{C} $, respectively, as well as the normal form for the Turing-Hopf bifurcation. Based on the obtained normal form, we analyze the complex spatio-temporal dynamics near the Turing-Hopf bifurcation point. Finally, the numerical simulations are carried out to corroborate the obtained theoretical results.

Hopf bifurcation in a delayed reaction diffusion predator-prey model with weak Allee effect on prey and fear effect on predator

<abstract><p>In this work, a Leslie-Gower model with a weak Allee effect on the prey and a fear effect on the predator is proposed. By using qualitative analyses, the local stability of the coexisting equilibrium and the existence of Turing instable are discussed. By analyzing the distribution of eigenvalues, the existence of a Hopf bifurcation is studied by using the gestation time delay as a bifurcation parameter. By utilizing the normal form method and the center manifold theorem, we calculate the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcating periodic solutions. We indicate that both the weak Allee effect on the prey and fear effect on the predator have an important impact on the dynamical behaviour of the new Leslie-Gower model. We also verify the obtained results by some numerical examples.</p></abstract>

Dynamics of a delayed reaction-diffusion predator-prey model with the effect of the toxins.

In this study, we investigate a delayed reaction-diffusion predator-prey system with the effect of toxins. We first investigate whether the internal equilibrium exists. We then provide certain requirements for the presence of Turing and Hopf bifurcations by examining the corresponding characteristic equation. We also study Turing-Hopf and Hopf bifurcations brought on by delays. Finally, numerical simulations that exemplify our theoretical findings are provided. The quantitatively obtained properties are in good agreement with the findings that the theory had predicted. The effects of toxins on the system are substantial, according to theoretical and numerical calculations.

Global bifurcation and pattern formation for a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with prey-taxis and double Beddington–DeAngelis functional responses

Of concern in this paper is to propose an accurate description for the global bifurcation structure of the nonconstant steady states for a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with prey-taxis and double Beddington–DeAngelis functional responses systematically. By treating the coefficient of nonlinear prey-taxis as a bifurcation parameter and utilizing the user-friendly version of Crandall–Rabinowitz bifurcation theory, we study the global bifurcation theory of the system. Meanwhile, the existence of nonconstant steady states will be offered by the exported global bifurcation theorem under a rather natural condition. In the proof, a priori estimate of steady states will play an important role. The local stability analysis with a numerical simulation and bifurcation analysis are given.

Bifurcation dynamics of a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with fear effect in a predator‐poisoned environment

In this paper, we propose a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with fear effect under a predator‐poisoned environment. First, we analyze the existence and stability of constant positive steady states. Second, taking the cost of minimum fear as the bifurcation parameter, the direction and stability of spatially homogeneous/inhomogeneous periodic solutions are investigated. Then, some properties of nonconstant positive steady states are investigated, such as nonexistence, existence, and steady state bifurcation. Applying the fixed point index theory, the existence of the nonconstant positive steady state is discussed, indicating that the proper diffusion rate of prey and larger diffusion rate of predator are beneficial to survival of populations. Moreover, taking the diffusion rate of predator as the bifurcation parameter, the steady state bifurcations from simple and double eigenvalues are intensively established. At last, the validity of the theoretical analysis is verified by numerical simulations. Biological interpretation reveals that the fear effect and the diffusion rate of populations can lead to the emergence of Hopf and steady state bifurcation, thereby destroying the stability of populations and promoting the benign evolution of populations.

Coexistence states of a Holling type II predator-prey system with self and cross-diffusion terms

<p style='text-indent:20px;'>In this paper, we present results about existence and non-existence of coexistence states for a reaction-diffusion predator-prey model with the two species living in a bounded region with inhospitable boundary and Holling type II functional response. The predator is a specialist and presents self-diffusion and cross-diffusion behavior. We show the existence of coexistence states by combining global bifurcation theory with the method of sub- and supersolutions.</p>

Global boundedness of a diffusive prey-predator model with indirect prey-taxis and predator-taxis

This paper considers a general reaction-diffusion predator-prey model with indirect prey-taxis and predator-taxis{ut=dΔu−χ∇⋅(u∇m)+cϕ(u,v)−g(u),x∈Ω,t>0,vt=Δv+ξ∇⋅(v∇w)+f(v)−ϕ(u,v),x∈Ω,t>0,τwt=Δw+βu−γw,x∈Ω,t>0,τmt=Δm+δv−ρm,x∈Ω,t>0, under homogeneous Neumann boundary condition in a smooth bounded domain Ω∈Rn. Here the parameters d,χ,ξ,c,β,γ,δ,ρ are positive, τ∈{0,1}, and the functions f(v), g(u), ϕ(u,v) satisfy some general assumptions. For the system with τ=1, under the assumption on the spatial dimension n≤3 and appropriate conditions on the parameters, the system possesses a classical solution which is global in time and bounded. Furthermore, for the system with τ=0, under the assumption on the arbitrary spatial dimension n and appropriate conditions on the parameters, the globally bounded solution is also obtained.

Global bifurcation for a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with Holling-II functional response and prey–taxis

Abstract The aim of this study is to establish a precise illustration of the structure of the nonconstant steady state for a Holling-II predator–prey reaction–diffusion system, with prey-taxis. We treat the nonlinear prey-taxis as a bifurcation parameter to discuss the global bifurcation of the system. Furthermore, the prey-taxis term, under a rather natural condition, offers nonconstant steady states. In the proof, a priori estimates and the regularity of the steady states will play an important role. Numerical simulation is provided to support our main theoretical results. Finally, conclusions are drawn to summarise the main analytical results.

Pattern dynamics of a reaction-diffusion predator-prey system with both refuge and harvesting

We are concerned with a reaction-diffusion predator–prey model under homogeneous Neumann boundary condition incorporating prey refuge (proportion of both the species) and harvesting of prey species in this contribution. Criteria for asymptotic stability (local and global) and bifurcation of the subsequent temporal model system are thoroughly analyzed around the unique positive interior equilibrium point. For partial differential equation (PDE), the conditions of diffusion-driven instability and the Turing bifurcation region in two-parameter space are investigated. The results around the unique interior feasible equilibrium point specify that the effect of refuge and harvesting cooperation is an important part of the control of spatial pattern formation of the species. A series of computer simulations reveal that the typical dynamics of population density variation are the formation of isolated groups within the Turing space, that is, spots, stripe-spot mixtures, labyrinthine, holes, stripe-hole mixtures and stripes replication. Finally, we discuss spatiotemporal dynamics of the system for a number of different momentous parameters via numerical simulations.

Global stability of a delayed diffusive predator–prey model with prey harvesting of Michaelis–Menten type

This paper considers a modified Leslie–Gower delayed reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with prey harvesting of Michaelis–Menten type and subject to homogeneous Neumann boundary condition. The global asymptotic stability of the positive constant steady state of the model is analyzed further and an existing global stability result is improved.

Turing pattern of a reaction-diffusion predator-prey model with weak Allee effect and delay

In this paper, we investigate a reaction-diffusion model with gestation delay and weak Allee effect. The conditions of delay-induced instability are obtained after stability analysis. By using numerical simulation, we discuss the effects of gestation delay and weak Allee effect on the Turing pattern. The results show that weak Allee effect and gestation delay can change the pattern formations. This means Allee effect and delay play significant roles in spatial invasion of populations.

Stability and Double-Hopf Bifurcations of a Gause–Kolmogorov-Type Predator–Prey System with Indirect Prey-Taxis

In this paper, we deal with the Gause–Kolmogorov-type predator–prey system with indirect prey-taxis, which means that directional movement of predators is stimulated by some chemicals emitted by preys. The existence of the positive equilibrium, the effect of the indirect prey-taxis on the stability and the related bifurcations are investigated. The critical values for the occurrence of the Hopf bifurcation, Turing bifurcation, Turing–Hopf bifurcation and double-Hopf bifurcation are explicitly determined. An algorithm for calculating the normal form of the double-Hopf bifurcation for the non-resonance and weak resonance is derived. Moreover, we apply the theoretical results to the system with Holling-II type functional response, the stable region and the bifurcation curves are completely determined in the plane of the indirect prey-taxis and self saturation coefficient. The dynamical classification near the double-Hopf bifurcation point is explicitly determined. In the neighborhood of the double-Hopf bifurcation, there are stable spatially homogeneous/inhomogeneous periodic solutions, stable spatially inhomogeneous quadi-periodic solutions and the pattern transitions from one spatial–temporal patterns to another one with the changes of the indirect taxis and semi saturation coefficients. The results show that spatially inhomogeneous Hopf bifurcations are induced by an indirect prey-taxis parameter $$\chi >0$$ , which is impossible for the reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with a direct prey-taxis.
