AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF KSHEENA SHUKRA (OLIGOSPERMIA) LEAD-ING TO MALE INFERTILITY: A CASE STUDY

As per the World Health Organization (WHO) report in India, the overall prevalence of primary infertility ranges between 3.9 and 16.8%. A recent report on the status of infertility states that 50% of it is related to productive anomalies or disorders in males. In comparison, 90% of male infertility problems are related to Oligospermia and other abnormalities in semen analysis. As per Ayurveda, Oligospermia can be considered as Ksheena Shukra (Oligospermia). Surgery, Hormone treatments, medications and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) are the main lines of treatment in Conventional medicine, but these are associated with many unwanted and severe adverse effects. The present case discussion is about effectively managing a case diagnosed as Ksheena Shukra with Ayurvedic intervention. This case report aims to evaluate the effect of Ayurvedic treatment in managing Ksheena Shukra. In this case study, Shodhana (Purificatory Therapy) procedures {especially Virechana Karma (Purgation) and Vasti(Enema)} were performed before administering Rasayana (Rejuvenation) drugs; the pre- and postsemen analysis during the treatment period shows a marked increase in sperm count and motility. The outcome of this case reveals that Ayurvedic treatments can effectively manage the Oligospermia associated with male infertility.

Role of Ayurveda medicines in the management of Alcoholic Liver Disease

Due to faulty food habits and altered lifestyles, non communicable disorders are commonly occurring in modern India. Alcoholic liver disease is caused due to intake of excessive alcohol for prolonged period. The alcohol taken undergoes metabolic changes and acetaldehyde is formed which damages the liver. Initially liver cells get studded with fat droplets and leads to inflammation of the liver called Alcoholic hepatitis. If further alcohol is taken in excessive amounts, it leads to Alcoholic cirrhosis. In this condition some of the hepatocytes undergo necrosis followed by abnormal regeneration and formation of multiple nodules and extensive fibrosis. There will be decrease in liver function followed by emaciation of the body and ascites in alcohol liver disease. Ayurveda medicine has a better role and outcome. Use of hepatoprotectives, hepatic stimulant, Rasayana drugs. Choalaganges, Tikta and Madhura Rasayukta drugs, Mootrala drugs and protein supplementation are found effective in the management of Alcoholic liver disease. Present paper highlights the role of Ayurveda medicines in the management of Alcoholic liver disease.

Ancient Antenatal Care – Rasayana Approach of Ayurveda in the Antenatal Period

Reproduction is a vital movement of all living beings. Humans have developed scientific protocols to be followed before birth, called antenatal care (ANC), for better and healthy newborn outcomes. Ayurveda, ANC protocol focuses on the formation of viable, mature, and potent gametes and non-consanguine marriage as a preconception prerequisite; after conception, there is starting of Garbhini Paricharya (pregnancy) till birth. Pregnancy is a susceptible point in a woman’s life, as unhealthy and uneasy conditions in this period can lead to severe complications for the mother and offspring. Considering the enormity of the pregnancy period, Ayurveda applies the Rasayana drug, diet, and routine in pregnant women during the antenatal period as Masaanumasika Garbhini Paricharya, i.e., month-wise daily regimen. Rasayana drug and diet is Oja Vriddhikara, i.e., increases the nutrition of all body tissues, and enhances the immunity, enthusiasm, and vitality of mother and fetus. Godugdha (Cow’s milk) and Goghrita (Cows Ghee) is the best Rasayana Aahara and Bheshaja in Indian diet. Adequate and judicious use of cow’s milk and ghee along with Rasayana medication followed by certain dos and don’ts is the mainstream of Masaanumasika Garbhini Paricharya for the birth of healthy, intelligent, and long-living offspring. A REVIEW ON YOGARAJ RASAYANA – AN AYURVEDIC FORMULATION

Rasayana is one of the panoramic realms of Ayurveda, which comprises specialized use of herbs, herbo-mineral formulations, diet and lifestyle along with behavioral code of conduct to achieve the optimum state of tissues and systems of the body so that there is least effect of external disease causing factors on the In other words, it can be stated that Rasayana is a way to achieve homeostasis and thus retard the process of tissue degeneration leading to prevention of diseases. In healthful condition, Rasayana may be understood as dietary dynamics for rejuvenation of frame and psyche. Among various types of Rasayana classification, Naimittika Rasayana is a disease-oriented therapy. A vast number of Naimittik Rasayana drugs and other poly herbal formulations have proven their efficacies in managing various diseases. One Such drug is Yogaraj Rasayana. It has many pharma-co - therapeutical applications. It is formulated with broad spectrum activity and is indicated in various diseases pertaining to Sarvadhatukshaya. Despite great technological advancement in medical science, the management of immunological infections is still a great challenge. At this juncture, it becomes essential to explore and adopt different Naimittik Rasayana therapies hidden in classical texts of Ayurveda for their proper utilization. Thus, here is an attempt to highlight the immune-modulative and rejuvenating effects of Yogaraj Rasayana in accord-ance with the classical and current literatures.

Clinical study to evaluate the efficacy of Mentosoothe Compound in the management of Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder

Introduction: DSM-5 defines Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder as having a persistent pattern of hyperactivity or inattention. This affects social, emotional, cognitive, and academic performance, behavioural skills in children and adolescents. The suffering child should have more than 6 symptoms of a particular type. Due to aetiology of Dhee Dhriti and Smriti, which results in imbalance of Kala and Karma and leads to incorrect interaction of the senses with their aims (Asatmyendriyartha Samyoga), gives rise to inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Considering the nature of symptomatologic manifestation, it can be correlated with Unmada, more specifically Vata-Pittaja Unmada. Ayurveda addresses ADHD with both internal medicines and external therapies. Mentosoothe compound is such a polyherbal compound it contains Medhya, Balya, Deepana and Rasayana drugs in extract form. Aim of the present study to evaluate the efficacy of mentosoothe compound in the management of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Objective of the study is to promote cognitive performance with improvement in the quality of life by providing an effective and safe treatment option. Materials and Methods: The present study will be conducted as a randomized clinical study including minimum 40 patients, divided into two groups. Mentosoothe compound A and Mentosoothe compound B will be given to groups with fixed dosages. Assessment will be done on every 15th day during 2 months of clinical trial and final follow up will be done one month after completion of clinical trial. Result: The results will give the data on comparative effectiveness of the Mentosoothe compounds on ADHD. Discussion and Conclusion: The outcome of this trial will render a way forward to effective management of ADHD in children.

Seed Germination and Seedling Growth Performance in Convolvulus microphyllus under Different Soil Mixture Ratio and Sowing Depth

It is a source of an important drug in Ayurveda known as Shankhpushpi. The whole herb is used medicinally in the form of decoction. It is also described as one of the Medhya Rasayana drugs in Ayurveda. The Shankhpushpi drug is used as brain tonic and as a laxative. The article presents the data on seed germination, seedling growth, and different agro techniques of Convolvulus microphyllus under nursery conditions. Results revealed that Seed sowing at 0.5 cm depth with1:2:2 soil mixture ratios (sand: clay: FYM) were found to be most favourable for obtaining maximum growth and biomass.

The term Rasayana in Charaka Samhita confers long life, youthfulness, strong body, freedom from diseases and the plants mentioned in Rsayana possess antiaging property. Aging is the collective term used for the complex detrimental physiological changes that reduce the functional ability of the cell. Oxidative stress, telomeres shortening, inflammation, and mitochondrial dysfunction are the main factors that regulate the aging process. Chronological aging is an irreversible process but the factors causing biological aging can be controlled. Ayurvedic herbs are better for the management of age-related problems. There are several natural bioactive agents present in plants that can delay the aging process in humans. They trigger actions like enhancing gene longevity and telomerase activity, ROS scavenging furthermore regeneration of tissues. The plants mentioned in the Rasayana of Ayurveda have antiaging potential and can be used to solve modern problems related to aging. Some Ayurvedic plants and their antiaging potential has explained in this review. The main causes of aging, medicinal plants and their use as potential antiaging mediator are covered in this study. The process of aging is still an enigma. It is a complex, irretrievable, dynamic process that involves a number of factors and is subject to a number of environmental and genetic influences. Rasayana aspect has not been much investigated in clinical trials. Aging is considered to result from free radical damage. According to Charaka, Rasayana drugs open the partially or fully blocked channels. Many Rasayanas show free radical scavenging activity and has the potential to mitigate the effects of aging. It gives an overview of the significance of Ayurvedic medicinal plants as a source of inspiration and the use of these plants as remedies for antiaging. This study briefly outlooks the causes of aging and how medicinal plants can be used to reverse the aging process. In this study, we discussed the antiaging potential and mechanistic roles of Ayurvedic herbs. These herbs have the properties to slow down the natural process of aging and can successfully manage common age-related problems.

Critical Analysis of Charakokta Mahakashaya in the Management of Respiratory System Disorders w.s.r. Covid-19 Pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on January 30, 2020. There is currently no specific drug or targeted intervention available, and current therapy consists solely of symptomatic treatment and supportive care. Objective: The goals of this theoretical research, which grew out of this literature review, were to critically review Charakokta Mahakashaya in the management of respiratory system disorders w.s.r. COVID-19 pandemic and interpret its significance in the modern era. Methodology: The present work is primarily based on theoretical research using related research articles, standard textbooks of epidemiology and classical treatises of Ayurveda. Discussion: The COVID-19 pandemic has posed several challenges to the Indian healthcare system. In Ayurveda, the concept of epidemic was well defined under the heading of Janapadodhwansa. It has been discovered that deaths in COVID-19 were caused by a lack of immunity. The Rasayana drug, which provides passive immunity based on Ojas, antagonises the strength of disorders and prevents them. The AYUSH ministry has issued numerous guidelines regarding COVID-19 potential treatment, which must be statistically studied. Along with combating the current situation, objective assessment of the scientific plausibility of botanical interventions for prevention and treatment is critical, and the world's scientific minds are expected to begin planning strategies for the future as well. Conclusion: To combat this pandemic, the prophylactic and therapeutic potential of traditional and complementary medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Yoga can be demonstrated as effective COVID-19 prophylaxis and adjuvant therapy.

Role of Ayurvedic Herbs in the Management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children

Ayurvedic system of medicine has a treasury of description of several Ayurveda herbs that elevate the mental as well as intellectual power primarily claimed as 'Medhya'. Firstly, the Rasayana drugs which are mentioned in Charaka Samhita called 'Medhya Rasayana' are supposed to be having specific influence on brain functions. Cognitive deficit can be present from birth or result from environmental causes such as brain damage, mental illness, or neurological abnormalities. This causes significant restrictions to the ability to learn and operate, like in ADHD. Sufferer of this clinical entity children stay confused, unable to do daily routine work normally, face difficulty in learning and understanding, unable to focus on one thing at a time. In Ayurvedic literature, impairment of memory is mentioned as Smriti bhramsha which occurs due to vitiation of Raja and Tama dosha. It has been noted that cognitive functions are thoroughly affected due to stress, anxiety and other related psychological disorders. It has been explained that Medha (intellect) and Buddhi (wisdom) get deteriorated in this condition. Some features of ADHD are resembled with Unmada. Medhya drugs mentioned in Ayurveda have multi-dimensional actions including effect on memory. These not only enhance the intellectual capacity but also rejuvenate the whole body system and their pathways. This review article delineates the introduction of ADHD, its Ayurvedic association and the herbs that are effective in management of ADHD.

EFFECT OF RASAYANA THERAPY - A LITERATURE REVIEW

Rasayana is a specialized branch of Astanga Ayurveda emphasizes the use of Kashta, Rasa aushadies, along with the Ahara, Vihara, Acharas for prevention, and treatment of diseases also preventing early ageing by achieving homeostasis.(Dosha , Rasadhi Dhatu Samyatha. It also includes all measures for geriatric healthcare and immunity enhancement. Rasayana essentially denotes medicinal nutrition, rejuvenation, longevity, immune-enhancing and geriatric health care. The Rasayana are not necessarily drugs. They may be in the form of a Rasayana food, or a positive healthy life style with a Rasayana effect or a Rasayana drug or all the three together. The Rasayana remedies promote good qualities of the cells and tissues of the body through improved nutrient effect, boosting the digestion, metabolism and/or augmenting the microcirculation and tissue perfusion. Bhargavaproktha Rasayana Chikitsa - Objective evidence to prevent systemic inflammation

Rasayana chikitsa is said to be one amongst Astanga Ayurveda and is considered to be a boon to mankind. Rasayana drugs are useful for the maintenance of the age, improvement of intelligence and strength and also said to be beneficial for the elimination of diseases. Due to urbanization and heavy pollution prevailing in the environment, human beings succumb to different diseases which can only be handled through rasayana. Rasayana becomes a part and parcel of daily regimen and also a modality of treatment in chronic lingering diseases which tend to recur repeatedly. It is a well known fact that rasayana also can enhance immunity of an individual so that the person can be free from any variety of diseases. As there are innumerable rasayana dravya explained in the classics, Bhargava prokta rasayana is selected and undertaken for the present study amongst those populations who are exposed to environmental health hazards such as fly ash from thermal power plants. The present study which was carried out is a double blind placebo controlled clinical study conducted amongst 60 apparently healthy volunteers. Those included for the study were randomly divided into 30 each for the test as well as placebo group respectively. Before administration of the rasayana treatment, koshta shuddhi was performed for a single day in both groups which was followed by administration of Bhargava prokta rasayana/Placebo medicine 48 gms per day for 48 days in empty stomach during morning hours. The total duration of the study conducted was 49 days. The outcome of the study revealed that TNF alpha which is one of the cell signaling protein involved in systemic inflammation was significantly reduced thereby proving Bhargava prokta rasayana group in improving health status of all those individuals residing near thermal power plant exposed to fly ash.

A systematic review of the pharmacological effects of Guda Shunthyadi syrup and Siddha Eranda Til Taila Matra Basti

Abstract Guda Shunthyadi syrup is a classical Ayurvedic formulation mentioned in Bhavprakash for the management of Vibandha (constipation). This syrup consists of Guda (Jaggery), Shunthi (Zingiber officinale), Haritiki (Terminalia chebula), Dadima (Punica granatum), and Pippali (Piper longum). In contrast, Siddha Eranda Til Taila Matra Basti is described in Ashtanga Hridya by Acharya Vagbhatta for the management of Vibandha. The components for the basti are Dashmoola, Devdaru (Cedrus deodara), Amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica), Eranda Taila (Ricinus communis), and Til Taila (Sesamum indicum). Our objective is to study the pharmacological evidences of Guda Shunthyadi syrup and Siddha Eranda Til Taila Matra Basti with their components. Research literature published in online journals of PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, DHARA, and Ayush Research Portal was searched extensively. The keywords used were pharmacological evidence or study of Guda Shunthyadi syrup, Guda (Jaggery), Shunthi (Z. officinale), Haritiki (T. chebula), Dadima (P. granatum), Pippali (P. longum), Dashmoola, Devdaru (C. deodara), Amalaki (P. emblica), and Eranda Taila (R. communis). Journals published online in last 20 years were considered. Ayurveda classical texts were also referred. As per the observations, the components of Guda Shunthyadi syrup and Siddha Eranda Til Taila Matra Basti show the several properties such as as anti-oxidant, anti-ulcer, laxative. anti-amoebic, antimicrobial, immunomodulator, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, stomachic, antitoxic, digestive, general tonic, antacid, and brain tonic. But, majorly, both of these drugs have their therapeutic results on Vibandha (constipation). The drug, Guda Shunthyadi syrup and Siddha Eranda Til Taila Matra Basti, has promising therapeutic potential. It can be used as a Rasayana drug, an anti-infective agent, and drug for Vibandha (constipation). The same needs to be further validated with larger, multicentric, standard controlled, and randomized clinical trials.

Role of Ayurveda in the Management of Childhood Immunodeficiency Disorders

‘Swarnaprashana’ as a lehana chikitsa and several Ayurveda Rasayana drugs can boost the immune system in a specific or nonspecific manner including both innate or adaptive arms of the immune response and enhance the body’s overall natural resistance to the disease-causing agent rather than directly neutralize the agent itself in children. Aim: To critically review and analyze the role of Ayurveda in the management of childhood immunodeficiency disorders. Method: Various Traditional Ayurveda texts and books, magazines, and research journals as well as PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science, Ayush research portal, and Clinical Trial Registry, India are used as a source of information about the immune-enhancing effect of Ayurveda drugs useful in childhood immunodeficiency disorders. Discussion: Immunodeficiency disorders are a group of heterogeneous disorders with immune system abnormalities characterized by various combinations of recurrent infections, autoimmunity, lymphoproliferation, granulomatous process, etc. ‘Swarnaprashana’ as a lehana chikitsa and Ayurveda Rasayana drug helps the body resist its natural tendency to manage or tolerate the strength, severity, or progression of an illness as well as its natural tendency to prevent the emergence of an illness. ‘Swarnaprashana’ and Rasayana drugs are used as antioxidants, improving immune status, bactericidal & antimicrobial activity, antiviral, and protectives. It promotes an individual's strength, boosts immunity, and helps to prevent and overcome illness. When the immune system is compromised, it results in immunodeficiency, which leaves the body exposed to a variety of fatal illnesses. ‘Swarnaprashana’ and Rasayana drugs mentioned in Ayurveda classics are known to boost the immune system. Conclusion: The present paper reveals that ‘Swarnaprashana’ as lehana chikitsa and Ayurveda Rasayana drugs are effective in treating childhood immunodeficiency disorders.

Endothelial Dysfunction and Diabetes: An Ayurvedic Concept

Diabetes mellitus is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, even in the presence of intensive glycaemic control. Both diabetes and insulin resistance bring about a amalgam of endothelial dysfunction and it will abate the anti-atherogenic role of the vascular endothelium. In patients with type 2 diabetes both insulin resistance and endothelial dysfunction appear to lead up to the development of undisguised hyperglycaemia. Hence, in patients with diabetes, endothelial dysfunction may be a censorious early intention for preventing atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. For the assessment endothelium- dependent vasodilatation Coronary and peripheral circulations are used. In Ayurveda, endothelial dysfunction can be correlated to Rakthavaha srotho dushti. There are several aetiological factors similar in both Prameha and Rakta dushti. The factors which got vitiated (Dooshya) in Prameha are Mamsa, Meda, Rasa, Rakta, Shukra, Lasika, Vasa, Majja & Oja. Amongst all Meda & Mamsa are main vitiated factors (Dooshya) while Rakta is one of the Dooshya initially. During nourishment, Rakta is nourished prior to Meda & Mamsa. Further it nourishes Meda dhatu too. Endothelial dysfunction is reversible in early stages so that many rasayana drugs mentioned in the Ayurveda can be used here. In the present review briefly outlines some basic concepts of endothelial structure and function, and its dysfunction, relation with diabetes and its Ayurvedic concepts and management.

EFFECT OF POLY-HERBAL MEDHYA RASAYANA DRUGS AND KANCHANAR GUGGULU IN THE MANAGEMENT OF HYPOTHYROIDISM: A CASE STUDY

Hypothyroidism is a common disorder of the endocrine system in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Females have to be more affected than males. The leading cause is physical and mental stress. Physical stress relates to lifestyles such as fast food, disturbed sleep patterns and environmental risk factors. Mental stress arises from work pressure, emotional weakness, and grief from disputes. The symptoms are quite variable depending on the severity of the hormone deficiency. Chronic fatigue, loss of appetite, weight gain, puffiness on the face, weakness and hoarseness of voice symptoms were found in this case study. In Investigation T3, T4 was found normal, and TSH was higher than the normal level. Ayurveda is vital in ruling out the underlying cause and treating it. In Ayurveda, it can be correlated with agnimandhya, kapha - vata vriddhi, pitta kshaya and rasavaha, medovaha and manovaha srotasa dushti. In this case study, the leading cause was stress in patients. Primary aim was to manage hypothyroidism with Ayurvedic medicines. The patient was treated with medhya rasayana drugs and kanchanar guggulu. The present study has focused effectiveness of polyherbal Ayurvedic therapy in hypothyroidism.

Jeevanti - A promising Rasayana in maternal and fetal wellbeing in pregnancy

Jeevanti is the drug having Rasayana, Jeevaniya/ vitalizer, Vaya Sthaapana, Vrishya, Stanyajanana, Balya, and Anulomana properties. Acharya Charaka on the basis of its pharmacological action, and categorized under Jeevaniya Gana, Madhura Skandha, vayasthapana, etc. Acharya Vaghbhata has clarified its uses during pregnancy in Garbhini Paricharya. Ayurveda, Vedic science considered this state as Garbhini and various Acharyas has given their very own rituals known as Garbhini Paricharya. It has been practiced and tested from century which deals with the both maternal and fetal wellbeing but evidence is the most important fact for today’s era, hence, various drugs are being studied to know their efficacy and safety during pregnancy. Rasayana drugs have health restorative action which prevents Garbhini and Garbha from various infections and other complications. As well as, it improves strength of fetus by improving fetal nourishment through proper formation of Rasa dhatu. This conceptual study will put limelight on the importance of Rasayana drug i.e., Jeevanti in Garbhini Paricharya along with its benefits to Fetal nourishment and maternal wellbeing.

Understanding of Post Covid Mucormycosis through the Lens of Ayurveda

Mucormycosis is fungal disease caused by fungus Mucor. It has been seen as a life-threatening complication of disease Covid-19. It has 70 times higher prevalence rate in India as compared to the world, having only few but expensive treatment options. The triggers of Mucor infection in Covid-19 patients are immune deficiency and hyperglycaemia caused by the use of corticosteroid, which favours Mucorales tissue Penetration. Mucormycosis has mainly six different types viz pulmonary, rhino-orbital-cerebral, gastrointestinal, widely disseminated, cutaneous, & miscellaneous infection, the commonest clinical presentation is rhino-orbito-cerebral in Covid-19 pandemic.
 Ayurveda though an ancient science of healing, has strength to treat newer diseases from several decades. Mucormycosis disease is not mentioned in Ayurveda text directly, it is Un uttered disease (Anukta Vyadhi) but it can be treated with help of basic principles of Ayurveda. By understanding the pathogenesis, it can be stated that, it is an Abhishangaja Vyadhi (diseased caused by Virus/ Bacteria/ Parasite) and categorised as Raktapitta Pradhan Tridoshaja Vyadhi (disease caused by vitiation of all three humors with rakta pitta predominance).
 Prevention of Mucormycosis can be achieved by following daily (Dincharya) and seasonal (Ritucharya) regimens. The treatment protocol include Krimighna (Antimicrobial), Tridoshashamak (normalise all three humors) and Raktashodhaka /Pittashamak (blood purifier), Agnideepak (improve digestion) & Aampachak (improve metabolism), Pramehhar (treatment of diabetes/hyperglycaemia) and Rasayana (Rejuvenation) drugs.

EFFECT OF KUSHTHADI GHRITA IN ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS: A REVIEW

Adolescence is the transitional phase for mental health promotion since more than half of mental health problems begin during this time, and many of them remain into adulthood. These conditions account for 10-20% of the global disease burden. This impacts the individual's likelihood of having an intellectual disability. According to Ayurveda, acharya Kashyap describes a Kushthadi ghrita prepared with Kushtha (Saussurea lappa), leaf-buds of Vata (Ficus benghalensis), Gauri (yellow mustard) (Sinapis alba), Pippali (Piper longum), Triphala [Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica)] Vacha (Acorus calamus), and rock-salt which is one of the best drugs for improving mental functions (Nootropic activity). The present paper reviews the indications and uses of Kushthadi ghrita described in Ayurveda texts. Studies published in various journals regarding the evidence of its ingredient effect are also examined. This Kushthadi ghrita drug acts as a Medhya drug and Rasayana, which is beneficial for improving mental functions. Medhya drugs ultimately increase the overall cognitive capacity of the brain, i.e., by increasing perfusion and metabolism and improving the chemical imbalance in the brain. Rasayana drugs supposed to increase all the sharira dhatu. The ingredients of these drugs have Antioxidant, Anxiolytic, Antistress activity, antidepressant, Neuroprotective, and Anti-amnestic Properties, which are supportive for improving mental functions (Nootropic activity).

A Clinical Trial on the Effect of Guduci (Tinospora Cordifolia (Willd) Miers) Satva along with Ksheera in Perimenopausal Symptoms

Perimenopause refers to the period around menopause. In Ayurveda it is considered as Rajakshaya, the transition period of body from predominance of Pitta dosha to Vatadosha which is characterized by aggravation of Vata, alteration of Pitta and Kaphadosha. It is included as a Swabhavikavyadhi in Ayurveda. Management of Dhatukshaya, Rasayana, Balya and Rasa- Raktha Prasadana treatments are seen beneficial in this condition. Guduci is one among Rasayana drugs mentioned in Ayurveda. The drug Guducisatva taken for the study is from the classic Yogaratnakara and has Dhatukrith and Vayastapana property. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of 1g Guduci Satva along with Ksheera (25ml boiled and lukewarm) in perimenopausal symptoms. Females in the age group 40-50 years with perimenopausal symptoms were selected for the study from the OPD of Prasutitantra-striroga, GAVC Hospital, Tripunithura as per the inclusion criteria. Study tools are clinical case proforma and Greene Climacteric scale score above 30. Drug was given orally in the dose of 1g twice along with 25ml Ksheera one hour before food. Duration of administration was 30 days and assessment was taken on 0th day, 31st day and 60th day. Results were analysed statistically by Wilcoxon's signed rank test and Friedman’s test. The study result is highly significant after treatment with P value <0.001 during treatment and during follow up and is found effective in reducing the symptoms in perimenopause.
