Objectives The authors describe a technique for meniscal reconstruction using an autologous semitendinosus graft combined to collagen membrane to treat a 39 yrs-old male patient with post-medial meniscectomy syndrome and show its results. Methods The tendon was duplicated and its ends were sutured with high-strength sutures and attached to an adjustable button on each side. The collagen membrane was sutured circumferentially to the graft and bone marrow aspirated was injected under the membrane. By arthroscopy, bone tunnels were drilled at the insertion of the meniscal roots with a retrograde drill. The graft was inserted in the meniscal position, fixed into root tunnels by the adjustable buttons and sutured to the joint capsule using inside-out and outside-in sutures. Results The patient was evaluated at 3, 6 and 12 months postoperatively and showed good clinical and radiological evolution, being asymptomatic at final evaluation. At MRI, there were a meniscal integration of the graft and no degenerative changes. Conclusion The described technique showed to be reproducible and an alternative to treat symptomatic patients undergoing previous meniscectomy. Besides, it may be performed along concomitant procedures like osteotomy, ligament reconstruction and chondral repair.
