Influence of Organic Manures and Micronutrients on Yield and Quality of Brinjal (Solanun melongena L. var. Pusa uttam)

A field study was conducted at farm of S.K.N., Agriculture University, Jobner, (Jaipur), Rajasthan, India during kharif season 2018 to investigate effect of organic manures and micronutrients on yield and quality of brinjal (Solanum melongena L. var. Pusa Uttam). The treatments included organic manures (control, FYM (40 t /ha), vermicompost (6.6 t /ha) and poultry manure @ 6.6 t /ha,) and micronutrients (control, Zn (0.5%), Fe (0.5%) and B (0.3%). The application of vermicompost (6.6 t/ha) non significantly affected TSS content and significantly increased the ascorbic acid content, protein content, fruit yield per plot and fruit yield per hectare which was statistically at par with poultry manure (6.6 t /ha) and micronutrients also non significantly affected TSS content and significantly increased the ascorbic acid content, protein content, fruit yield per plot and fruit yield per hectare as compared to control.

Impact of Micronutrients and Plant Growth Regulators on Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) Growth, Yield and Quality

The present research work conducted to find out the effect of plant growth regulators and micronutrients on growth, yield, and quality of Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) under open field condition. The experiment was designed in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates. The experiment was conducted on Horticulture farm at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University; Dhaka, Bangladesh from July 2022 to June 2023. The experimental treatments included three levels of PGR i.e. No PGR, 200 ppm gibberellic acid (GA3) and 100 ppm Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and three levels of micronutrients i.e.no micronutrients, 200 ppm Boron and 200 ppm Zn. The treatments had a substantial effect on growth, yield, and quality of Brinjal. GA3 treated plants performed better than NAA and no PGR treated plants and Zn produced higher yields and quality than Boron and no micronutrients treated plants in most of the parameters. Considering treatment combination of PGR and micronutrients, plant height, leaf area (471.33 cm2), SPAD value (52.95), number of flowers plant-1 (65.33), number of fruits plant-1 (58.38), yield plant-1 (3312.8g), lipid (0.35%) were observed highest from the treatment combination of 200 ppm GA3 with 200 ppm Zinc whereas dry weight of whole plant (158.80 g), individual fruit weight (67.33g) and fiber (12.28%) were observed from the treatment combination of 100 ppm NAA with 200 ppm zinc but in case of number of branch (14.00) and Ash (8.44%) were observed from the treatment of 100 ppm NAA application . Maximum parameter showed lowest value under no treatment combination. This study suggests that foliar application of GA3 with micronutrients such as Zinc during flowering stage of eggplant is the most effective strategy for improving the nutritional quality of Brinjal fruits and increasing crop yields, both of which will help to reduce micronutrient malnutrition and hunger worldwide.

Studies on the Effect of Biofortification through Micronutrients Fortified Organics on the Soil Properties, Yield and Quality of Brinjal in Coastal Soil

Numerous multi-micronutrient fertilizers (MMF) have been developed during recent years to address the micronutrient deficiencies in crops but still micronutrient deficiency occurs in both soil and human beings. Biofortification is one of the techniques, which deliver the targeted element in edible part of the plants to overcome the malnutrition and hidden-hunger in burgeoning population. Based on the fact, the present field study was undertaken to study the effect of biofortification through micronutrients fortified organics on the performance of brinjal in coastal soil. The various treatments evaluated were T1 – Control (100% NPK/RDF alone), T2 – RDF + FYM @ 12.5 t ha-1, T3 – RDF + Vermicompost (VC) @ 12.5 t ha-1, T4 – RDF + FYM + ZnSO4 @ 25kg ha-1 + FeSO4 @ 25 kg ha-1 SA (soil application), T5 – RDF + VC + ZnSO4 @ 25 kg ha-1 + FeSO4 @ 25 kg ha-1 SA, T6 – RDF + FYM + ZnSO4 @ 0.5% + FeSO4 @ 0.5% FA (foliar application), T7 – RDF + VC + ZnSO4 @ 0.5% + FeSO4 @ 0.5% FA, T8 - RDF + Zn + Fe Fortified FYM (MNFFYM)@ 6.25 t ha-1, T9-RDF + Zn + Fe Fortified VC (MNFVC) @ 6.25 t ha-1, T10 - RDF + MNFFYM @ 6.25 t ha-1 + ZnSO4 @ 0.5% + FeSO4 @ 0.5% FA and T11 - RDF + MNFVC @ 6.25t ha-1 + ZnSO4 @ 0.5% + FeSO4 @ 0.5% FA. The treatments were studied under Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications and using Annamalai brinjal as test crop. Among that treatments, combined application of recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) + micronutrients fortified vermicompost (MNFVC) @ 6.25 t ha-1 through soil application along with foliar application of ZnSO4 @ 0.5% + FeSO4 @ 0.5% at pre flowering stage (PFS) and at flowering stage (FS) recorded the highest growth, yield characters, yield and quality of brinjal. This treatment also recorded the significant higher nutrients availability and nutrients uptake by brinjal in coastal soil.

Fortified Organic Manure and NPK Fertilizer Levels: Influence on Soil Properties, Yield and Micronutrients Biofortification of Brinjal in Coastal Soil

Coastal saline soils are nutrient impoverished where nutrients are in starved state, thus applying increased rate of NPK along with micronutrients fortified organics would greatly improve the soil fertility as well as nutritional quality and yield of vegetable crops. Therefore, we examined the effect of micronutrients fortified organics and NPK levels on the soil properties, yield and quality of brinjal in coastal saline soil. A field experiment was conducted at Ponnanthittu coastal village, near Chidambaram, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu during August – December 2022 in sandy saline soil (EC-1.58 dSm-1; pH-8.54) nature with low organic carbon (2.31 g kg-1), available NPK of 135.56, 9.45 and 157.30 kg ha-1 and the available zinc (0.69 mg kg-1) and iron content (3.87 mg kg-1). The treatments adopted in a Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) with three replications and different levels of NPK viz., control, 100, 125 and 150% recommended levels as factor A and different micronutrients fortified organics viz., 100% Zn Fortified Composted Coir pith (Zn FCCP) @ 6.25 t ha-1), 100% Fe Fortified Composted Coir pith (Fe FCCP) @ 6.25 t ha-1) and 100% Zn + Fe Fortified Composted Coir pith (Zn + Fe FCCP) @ 6.25 t ha-1 as factor B were studied with brinjal. Study results indicated that application of 125 % NPK along with Zn + Fe fortified composted coir pith (Zn + Fe FCCP) was significantly increased the availability of major and micro nutrient status, nutritional quality and yield of brinjal over other treatments in coastal saline sandy soil.

Impact of Foliar Boron and Fertilizer Management Systems on Growth, Yield and Quality of Brinjal

A field experiment was conducted during the rainy season of 2017–18 at Horticulture Farm, S.K.N. Agriculture University, Jobner, Jaipur, Rajasthan to study the role of foliar spray of boron on the growth, yield, and quality of Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) The study was laid with 18 treatments (TThree replicates of six treatments) viz., INM levels (control, 100% inorganic NPK, 75% inorganic NPK +25%VC (vermicompost), 50% inorganic NPK +50%VC, 25% inorganic NPK +75% VC, and 100%VC and boron levels (control, 100 ppm, and 200 ppm). It was observed that there was a significant (P < 0.05) increase in the plant height and plant spread at 30, 60, and 90 DAT on the application of 75% inorganic NPK +25%VC on the brinjal crop, while the application of inorganic 50% NPK +50%VC significantly (P < 0.05) increased chlorophyll content (mg.g-1), fruit length (cm), fruit weight (g), fruit yield ha-1 (q), Nitrogen and Phosphorus content in fruit (%), as compared to control but statistically at par with 25% inorganic NPK +75%VC. The application of boron (200ppm) significantly (P < 0.05) increased the plant height and plant spread at 30, 60, and 90 DAT(cm), chlorophyll content (mg/g), fruit length (cm), fruit weight (g), fruit yield hectare-1(q), NP content in fruit (%), as compared to control and boron (100 ppm).

The Zn @ 0.5% significantly increased number of branches (3.24, 9.27, 13.50 and 15.49, respectively), number of leaves (14.03, 78.41, 191.51 and 222.49, respectively) fruit length (8.30 cm), fruit diameter (7.41 cm), number of fruit/plant (6.63), fruit weight (131.05 g), fruit yield/plot (17.39 kg /plot) and fruit yield (321.99 q/ha) but days required to 50 per cent flowering was non-significant.

The present investigation entitled “Response of biofertilizer and organic manure on the growth, yield and quality of brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) cv. Pusa Uttam under Bundelkhand region of U.P” was carried out the organic research farm Karguwan Institute of Agricultural Sciences Bundelkhand University, Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh) during rabi season of the year 2019-2020. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications comprising 8 viz. T0- Control, T1- Farm yard manure (100%), T2-Vermicompost (100%), T3-Poultry manure (100%), T4-Farm yard manure (100%) +Azotobactor, T5-Vermicompost (100%) +Azotobactor, T6-Farm yard manure (50%) +Vermicompost (50%) +Azotobactor, T7- Poultry manure (50%) +Vermicompost (50%) + PSB + Azotobactor. The result showed that the treatment T7 having Poultry manure (50%) +Vermicompost (50%) + PSB + Azotobactor gave maximum and significantly, plant height (19.77, 30.66, 47.07 and 66.06), stem diameter (0.56, 0.94, 3.33 and 3.72 cm), number of branches per plant(4.66, 8.66, 15.00 and 23.00) 30, 60, 90 and 120 DAT respectively, days to 1st flowering (35.66 days), number of fruit per plant(7.66), days to 1st picking(60.33 days), fruit length (9.24 cm), fruit diameter (8.04 cm), average fruit weight (131.10 g), total soluble solid (4.84%) and yield (37238.42 kg ha-1). Application of T7 Poultry manure (50%) +Vermicompost (50%) + PSB + Azotobactor significantly superior to other treatments.

Background: Brinjal or eggplant (Solanum Melongena L.), a member of solanacea family, is one of the most common vegetable crops grown in India. Brinjal is staple vegetable in almost all tropical countries in the world and liked by both poor and rich. Its nutritive value varies among varieties. It contains vitamin A and B. Since there is a common belief that it is not good vegetable more while brinjal may have the medicinal property like white brinjal which is used for Diabetics patients. The basic concept underlying the principles is the maintenance and improvement of soil fertility for sustaining crop productivity on a long-term basis, which can be achieved through the combined use of various sources of nutrients and by managing them scientifically along with optimum growth, yield and quality of crop. Considering the above facts, the present study was therefore under taken to investigate the intergraded management on yield and yield contributing characters of brinjal and on soil properties.Methods: An experiment was conducted at Horticulture Experimental field Department of Horticulture, Naini Agriculture Institute, SHUATS, Allahabad during Rabi season of 2016-17. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with 8 treatments and each replicated thrice. Thirty days old healthy and uniform seedlings were transplanted on 24th Sep. 2016.Result: Overall vegetative parameters were influenced due to application of Nutrient through combination of organic manure and inorganic fertilizers were proved beneficially for increasing growth of brinjal crop. The fruit and yield parameters like Average fruit weight, Length of fruit, Diameter of Fruit, Fruit per plot, Fruit per plant and Fruit per hectare was influenced significantly by the combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers in different treatments which were recorded after harvesting of fruits.

EFFECT OF FOLIAR APPLICATION OF VERMIWASH ON GROWTH AND QUALITY OF BRINJAL

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Jamalpur, Bangladesh during the period of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 to investigate the effect of vermiwash on growth, yield and quality of brinjal and to find out suitable foliar dose of vermiwash for optimizing the yield of brinjal. There were five treatments comprising T1= Chemical fertilizer (CF) + foliar spray of distilled water (control), T2 = CF + foliar spray of 10% vermiwash, T3 = CF + foliar spray of 20% vermiwash, T4 = CF + foliar spray of 30% vermiwash and T5= CF + foliar spray of 40% vermiwash. Results revealed that, vermiwash treated brinjal plants showed better growth and yield parameters than the control plants. The highest average brinjal fruit yield (29.99 t ha-1) was found in T3 treatment i.e., foliar spray of 20% concentration of vermiwash and the lowest (26.35 t ha-1) came from control. On the other hand, nutritional quality (moisture content, TSS, β carotene and nutrient content) were seen to be higher in vermiwash treated treatment compared to control treatment. The study suggests that, 20% concentration of vermiwash could be used as effective foliar spray for eco-friendly and higher yield of brinjal.

Homa Farming Of Brinjal (Effect of Agnihotra and Amritjal on Growth, Yield and Quality of Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.))

Brinjal is a crop grown widely all over India and loved by both rich and poor. The Chhotanagpur region especially of Jharkhand is famous for rampant vegetable production. There is a wide use of chemical and synthetic fertilizers that are so expensive that poor farmers can’t afford it. The high use of chemicals and synthetics also reduces the quality of both the produce and the cultivated soil. In this context, attempts have been made combining solutions for both of the problems by conducting a varietal trial using four non-chemical alternative growing conditions viz. E1C1: Amritjal (1%), E1C2: Absolute Control (Inherent Fertility Status of Experimental Soil); E2C1: Amritjal (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra), and E2C2: Only Homa Induction (Agnihotra) by employing five local varieties viz. V1: Swarna Pratibha; V2: Swarna Neelima; V3: Swarna Shakti; V4: Mukta Jhuri; V5: Long Green. The experimental was designed after RBD with three replications. The studied growth, yield and quality attributing characters revealed that the maximum yield (91.41 ± 6.05 t.ha-1) in Swarna Neelima as recorded by the treatment E2C1: Amritjal (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra) because of its supply of high nutrition through soil and air. Whereas in quality parameters like TSS and Chlorophyll etc. are in different varieties also performed best in E2C1: Amritjal (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra) condition. Coming to the varieties, the variety V2 (Swarna Neelima) has recorded the highest yield (91.41 ± 6.05 t.ha-1). But the variety V3 (Swarna Shakti) performed well in terms of its quality parameters like TSS (5.98 ± 0.110Brix), reducing sugar (3.76 ± 0.04%) content etc. Considering both the variety and alternative growing conditions, V2 (Swarna Neelima) emerged as the best performing variety under the growing condition of E2C1: Amritjal (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra). The expression of different studied quality traits performed independently under the influences of alternative growing conditions.. However, the highest B:C ratio of 6.72 has been recorded in V2 (Swarna Neelima) particularly when cultivated through the alternative growing condition of E2C1: Amritjal (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra). So, it may be concluded that Swarna Neelima variety of brinjal is highly suitable for cultivation in the south Chhotanagpur plateau of Jharkhand by using alternative growing condition of E2C1: Amritjal (1%) + Homa Induction (Agnihotra).

Effect of fertigation on biometric characters, dry matter and quality of brinjal

A field experiment was undertaken during rabi season of 2017-18 at research farm of Department of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola to investigate the effect of fertigation on biometric characters, dry matter and quality of brinjal. The experimental design was randomized block design with five treatments replicated four times. The study revealed that yield, plant height, number of branches per plant, number of leaves, number of fruits per plant, average weight of fruit, yield of fruits per plant, leaf dry matter, fruit dry matter and total dry matter was improved with increased fertigation level as compared to traditional application of fertilizer. All above mentioned character were found significantly highest in treatment having drip fertigation at 150% RDF and were found at par with treatment having drip fertigation at 125% RDF.

Effect of organic acid coated phosphatic fertilizer on soil P status, yield and quality of Brinjal

A field experiment was conducted during Rabi, 2019 which is laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with ten treatments and three replications. The treatments comprised of T1: NK+ P as uncoated DAP, T2: NK + P as FA coated DAP (5%), T3: NK + P as FA coated DAP (10%), T4: NK + P as FA coated DAP (15%), T5: NK + P as FA coated DAP (20%), T6 NK + P as HA coated DAP (5%), T7: NK + P as HA coated DAP (10%), T8 : NK + P as HA coated DAP (15%), T9 : NK + P as HA coated DAP (20%), T10: Control. Urea and MOP were used as the source of Nitrogen and potassium respectively. The results from the field experiment revealed that the available P in the soil, the yield of Brinjal(CO2) and the economic returns are varying according to the change in coating concentration and type of organic acids,. There is no significant difference in anthocyanin content and Titrable acidity of Brinjal fruits but slight improvement is found in ascorbic acid content. Significantly higher yield was obtained in T9 [NK + P as HA coated DAP (20%)] and lowest yield was recorded for T10, T6 and T1. Humic acid coated treatments found better in yield and available soil P status compared to Fulvic acid coated treatments.

Effect of zinc and boron on quality of brinjal fruits (<em>Solanum melongena </em>L<em>.</em>)

A pots experiment was conducted at Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture Technology and Sciences during 2012, to study Effect of Zinc and Boron on Growth, Yield and Quality of Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) cv: Rutika. The experiment consisted of 9 treatments laid out in randomized block design with three replications 3 times the important finding of present investigation is given below. The individual treatment of 5 mg Zinc, 10 mg Zinc, 5 mg Boron and 10 mg Boron and treatments combination 5 mg Zn + 5 mg B, 5 mg Zn + 10 mg B, 10 mg Zn + 5 mg B and 10 mg Zn + 10 mg B per Kg soil was given in brinjal pots the growth parameters like tallest plants, maximum number of plant, number of leaf, number of branches and highest plant maximum number of flower and yield parameters like maximum number of fruit per plant and maximum fresh weight and dry weight per fruit was obtained in yield Brinjal influenced by treatments T8 ( 10 mg Zn + 10 mg B) and was significantly superior over rest of the treatments. The physiological parameters like the Chlorophyll a, b, carotenoid, anthocyanin and protein was recorded maximum in treatment T8 (10 mg Zn + 10 mg B) and was significantly superior over rest of the treatment.

Effect of zinc and boron on growth of brinjal (Solanum melongena L.)

A micronutrient is the essential element for plant growth and development. Present study aimed to explore in detail the effect of zinc and boron on growth, yield and quality of brinjal ( Solanum melongena L.). The experiment consisted of 9 treatments laid out Completely Randomized Design with three replications. The individual treatment of 5 mg zinc, 10 mg zinc, 5 mg boron and 10 mg boron and treatment combinations 5 mg Zn+5 mg B, 5 mg Zn+10 mg B, 10 mg Zn+5 mg B and 10 mg Zn+10 mg B per kg soil was given in brinjal pots, the growth parameters like plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, number of flowers and yield parameters like maximum number of fruits per plant was obtained in brinjal influenced by combination of treatments T 8 (10 mg Zn+10 mg B) and was significantly superior at 5 per cent over rest of the treatments.
