Interval-valued spherical fuzzy quality function deployment methodology: Metaverse collaborative system design application

The metaverse collaborative system (MCS) aims to assist users in working together, sharing resources, and participating in joint activities in the metaverse environment. As an interactive system, identifying essential design requirements (DRs) based on user requirements (URs) during the conceptual design phase of MCS is challenging as it directly affects the cost of subsequent optimization design and user experimentation, as well as user experience. Therefore, we propose a quality function deployment (QFD) method based on multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) in an interval-valued spherical fuzzy (IVSF) environment to establish a mapping relationship between URs and DRs and identify human-centered DRs to guide the conceptual design process of MCS. Firstly, we summarized the URs for MCS design and calculated their weights using IVSF based analytical hierarchy process (IVSF-AHP). Afterward, we determined DRs based on URs and established the UR-DR relationship in the house of quality of QFD. Next, we integrate the VlseKriterijuska Optimizacija I Komoromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method in the IVSF environment into QFD to determine the priority of DRs. The results indicate that system functional design, scene layout design, compatibility design, and multi-user collaborative optimization design are important DRs for designing MCS and should be carefully considered. We validated the applicability of this method through an urban planning MCS design example and provided a conceptual design case including functional blueprints. Sensitivity analysis and comparative analysis demonstrate the flexibility and reliability of the proposed method.

Using Quality Function Deployment to Assess the Efficiency of Mini-Channel Heat Exchangers

This article addresses the design of a compact heat exchanger for the cooling of electronic systems. The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method is used to identify crucial product features to improve device performance and key customer requirements. The QFD simplifies management processes, allowing modifications to device components, such as design parameters (dimensions and materials) and operating conditions (flow type and preferred temperature range). The study was applied to analyse the fundamental features of a compact heat exchanger, assessing their impact on enhancing heat transfer intensity during fluid flow through mini-channels. The thermal efficiency of the compact heat exchanger was tested experimentally. The results allow to verify the results obtained from the numerical simulations due to Simcenter STAR-CCM+. Consequently, the experimental part was reduced in favour of numerical simulations conducted using this commercial CFD software version 2020.2.1 Build 15.04.01. The numerical simulations performed with the aid of CFD showed increases in the heat transfer coefficient of up to 180% compared to the case treated as a reference. The application of the QFD matrix significantly reduces the time required to develop suitable design and material solutions and determine the operating parameters for the cooling of miniature electronic devices.

Engineering characteristics prioritization for quality function deployment by using CRITIC and cumulative prospect theory with extended hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a powerful approach for improving product quality that can transform customer requirements (CRs) into engineering characteristics (ECs) during product manufacturing. The limitations of traditional QFD methods lead to imprecise quantification of CRs and difficulty in accurately mapping customer needs. To address these issues, this paper introduces an innovative QFD approach that integrates extended hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (EHFLTSs), CRITIC, and cumulative prospect theory. The method expresses the subjectivity and hesitancy of decision makers when evaluating the relationship between ECs and CRs using EHFLTSs, considering the conflicts among CRs. The CRITIC is used to comprehensively evaluate the comparison strength and conflict between indicators, and the cumulative prospect theory is utilized to derive the prioritization of ECs. A case study is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Predicting Quality of Modified Product Attributes to Achieve Customer Satisfaction

In the era of the competitive environment, the improvement in current products is ensured through activities aimed at increasing a product’s quality level and, consequently, reducing the amount of waste. The dynamically changing production environment and sudden changes in customer expectations force us to take precise and well-thought-out development steps. Furthermore, it is important to anticipate favourable product changes to prepare for market changes over time. This is still an open problem. The aim of this study was to develop a method to predict the quality of potential product prototypes resulting from the proposed modifications of the product features. This methodology takes into account current customer expectations. The method was created based on the principles of creating Quality Function Deployment (QFD) in the context of taking into account current and future customer expectations regarding product features. This is a new approach to analysing product quality within the principles of the traditional QFD method. The originality of the study is the technique used in the method to estimate the expected values of product features and their importance (weights), taking into account current customer expectations. Its originality is also manifested in drawing conclusions supporting the decision-making process of product improvement, because it involves ensuring the pro-quality modification of selected features of current products in the order that is most advantageous from the customer’s point of view. The use of the proposed method allows for the analysis of the impact of modifying the current value of a product feature. The method is illustrated with an example of a vacuum cleaner for home use. However, the proposed method can be applied to the design of any product to predict products that will meet customer expectations.

An integrated QFD and FMEA method under the co-opetitional relationship for product upgrading

Improving customer satisfaction is as important as reducing risk associated with product upgrades. The quality function deployment (QFD), as a customer-centric tool, is widely used for product improvement. The failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) method is recognized as a reliability management tool. Considering the need to eliminate risks and meet customer expectations, building an integrated QFD-FMEA framework is useful for product upgrading. To enhance the performance, the QFD and FMEA methods are improved. First, the base criterion method (BCM) is used to derive the CR weights in the QFD method and RFs in the FMEA method. Second, the combined compromise solution (CoCoSo) method and interactive multi-criteria decision making (TODIM- Portuguese acronym) methods are utilized to derive the priority of TCs and FMs, respectively. Third, the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy set (IVIFS) is used to express the expert evaluation. Moreover, given that co-opetitional relationship exist in firms and lead to opinion interactions, the improved Hegselmann-Krause (HK) model is utilized in our improved method to stimulate opinion interaction under different competitive states in different phases. Finally, a case study is presented to validate the improved method, and its superiority is demonstrated through sensitivity and comparative analysis.

Increasing Customer Satisfaction Using Integration of Service Quality, Kano and Quality Function Deployment

An initial survey conducted through interviews with several students and parents found dissatisfaction with school services. This is supported by data on customer dissatisfaction complaints, and there was no effort from the school to fix it; no previous research has focused on this. The purpose of this study was to determine the efforts that can be made to improve the quality of service. The population in this study were grade 12 students. The sampling technique used a questionnaire, while the analysis used was the integration of the Servqual, Kano, and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) methods. The results of the study using the Servqual method obtained 25 service attributes with negative results. While the Kano method obtained 22 important category attributes. Based on the results of the integration of Kano’s service quality method into the QFD method, it was found that 3 attributes became priorities for improvement, namely implementing 5S, holding teacher and employee polls, and adding practical tools. The improvement solution for the Brantas Vocational School is implementing 5S management, conducting regular employee performance assessments by holding polls and adding practical equipment in the department.

Modeling resilient functions in perishable food supply chains: transition for sustainable food system development

PurposeNatural disasters cause serious operational risks and disruptions, which further impact the food supply in and around the disaster-impacted area. Resilient functions in the supply chain are required to absorb the impact of resultant disruptions in perishable food supply chains (FSC). The present study identifies specific resilient functions to overcome the problems created by natural disasters in the FSC context.Design/methodology/approachThe quality function deployment (QFD) method is utilized for identifying these relations. Further, fuzzy term sets and the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) are used to prioritize the identified problems. The results obtained are employed to construct a QFD matrix with the solutions, followed by the technique for order of preference by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS) on the house of quality (HOQ) matrix between the identified problems and functions.FindingsThe results from the study reflect that the shortage of employees in affected areas is the major problem caused by a natural disaster, followed by the food movement problem. The results from the analysis matrix conclude that information sharing should be kept at the highest priority by policymakers to build and increase resilient functions and sustainable crisis management in a perishable FSC network.Originality/valueThe study suggests practical implications for managing a FSC crisis during a natural disaster. The unique contribution of this research lies in finding the correlation and importance ranking among different resilience functions, which is crucial for managing a FSC crisis during a natural disaster.

Design and Improvement of Mobility Aid Walker By Using QFD and TRIZ Method

This research paper aims to address several challenges associated with the use of walkers, namely, the problem of incorrect posture leading to physical discomfort, increased product requirements, lack of collapsibility affecting portability, and storage issues caused by the walker's large size. To effectively overcome these challenges, a combined approach of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) is employed. The House of Quality (HOQ) is utilized as a tool to analyze the relationship matrix within the HOQ and the characteristics of the product. The TRIZ method is applied, leveraging 39 parameters and 40 Inventive Principles, to solve the identified problems. The concept development phase encompasses various techniques such as hand sketches, a sketchbook, Solidworks, and other pertinent tools. Subsequently, a prototype is developed and subjected to a validation survey. The results of the survey demonstrate a high level of satisfaction among the respondents, indicating that the walker successfully fulfills their requirements.

An integrated decision framework for evaluating and recommending health care services

Quality management techniques such as the quality function deployment model can help hospitals assess and improve the quality of their services by integrating the voice of customers. The different quality parameters of this model are usually determined and assessed by experts; nonetheless, obtaining such experts is not always easy or inexpensive. Moreover, in this method, patient opinions are not usually considered directly, although they are the real users of the services and those who can best assess those services. Nevertheless, these opinions are easily accessible today, owing to the development of medical social networks where patients directly convey their opinions about the different services and features of a hospital. Therefore, it is feasible to replace expert knowledge with the information provided by these opinions. Based on this idea, this study proposes a novel fuzzy recommendation model based on the quality function deployment method to rank hospitals depending on patient opinions and preferences regarding hospital services. This model integrates a topic modeling strategy for determining hospital requirements, customer needs, and the relationship between them as well as a sentiment analysis algorithm for assessing customer satisfaction regarding hospital services. To demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method, several experiments were conducted using patient reviews from real hospitals, and the method was compared against other recommendation models. The results prove that this approach represents a step toward more personalized and effective health care system selection considering patient preferences and opinions.

Active disturbance rejection control of flexible industrial manipulator: A MIMO benchmark problem

Robotic manipulators are widely used in modern industry. In order for robot manipulators to achieve trajectory tracking control, the end-effectors must move precisely along the given trajectories. The nonlinearity, strong coupling, and uncertainty of the system make trajectory tracking very complicated and difficult. An approach for robust feedback control is presented in this paper as a solution to this problem. The design relies on active disturbance rejection control to estimate unknown disturbances affecting the plant. The controlled system is an uncertain two-link manipulator with elastic gear transmissions, described by nonlinear friction and elasticity. It is based on an industrial benchmark problem. The model has two significant uncertainties: parametric uncertainty as well as external disturbances that affect tools and motors. A simulation-based evaluation of the proposed control method and a comparison of its performance, considering specific robustness requirements and trajectory tracking, are presented. The comparison includes the baseline controller, the QFD (Quality Function Deployment) method, and PD-CNN (PD Control Compensation based on the Cascade Neural Network). Computer simulations of the proposed controller are carried out to validate the ABB (Asea Brown Boveri) industrial benchmark. The simulation results demonstrate superiority in meeting stability and target value requirements. The stability and ultimate boundedness of the tracking error of ADRC (Active Disturbance Rejection Control) are demonstrated.

A new CoCoSo ranking-based QFD approach in Pythagorean fuzzy environment and its application on evaluating design attributes of mobile medical App

Quality function deployment (QFD) is a customer-driven product development technique that converts customer requirements (CRs) into design attributes (DAs) of a product and service. Nevertheless, in real situations, the traditional QFD method has been found that possesses some deficiencies, such as the accuracy assessment of relationships between CRs and DAs, and the inter-relationships among DAs. To fill in the above gaps, this study develops a new QFD approach by a CoCoSo-based ranking method under Pythagorean fuzzy environment. To begin with, an extended Pythagorean fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method is proposed to identify the relationships within DAs. Second, the aggregation method of the weighted average method and objective penalty function are propounded to construct the programming models for calculating the importance of DAs under Pythagorean fuzzy setting. Third, a new CoCoSo-based ranking method for Pythagorean triangular fuzzy numbers (PTrFNs) is proposed to obtain the ranking of DAs. Lastly, a case regarding “Ping An Health” mobile medical App is carried out to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed QFD approach. The results show that the top DA is perceptibility. Therefore, perceptibility should be focus on firstly in the “Ping An Health” App design, such as system fluency, interface comfort and network stability. Additionally, the results show that the new QFD can express experts’ hesitant assessment information, deal with the interrelations among DAs, and yield more precise rankings of DAs in QFD.

Prioritizing Actions for Improving the Social Economic Wellbeing in Malaysia Based on Quality Function Deployment Methods

The Malaysia economic had significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for the poorest 40% of the population (B40). Numbers of improvement programs had been outlined by the Malaysia government to improve B40’s social economic wellbeing (SEW). The success of the SEW improvement program is rest on how the programs are prioritized based on SEW needs. Empirical review found that the concept of prioritization for SEW improvement remains ambiguous. There is lack of research on structured approach for the identification and prioritization of SEW improvement actions. Hence, based on the concept of Quality Function Deployment (QFD), this research explores how SEW improvements could be identified and prioritized via a new Social-economic wellbeing Actions Deployment (SEAD) framework. Based on SEAD framework, qualitative data was collected through Expert Opinion Assessment (EOA) and Focus Group discussion among 10 social economic experts. Feedback from the experts was analyzed by Kendall Rank analysis and Grounded Theory approach. Finding from this research reveals that besides government factors (i.e. Government policy and strategy for B40), the roles played by B40 individual (i.e. B40 individual adaptive, absorptive and transformation capability) and industry (i.e. Industry Policy and Program for B40) are also crucial for the improvement of SEW. This research delivers an important message for policy makers to place SEW improvement focus across all stakeholders within the SEW ecosystem, including B40 individual and industry. The research also extends the knowledge of SEW improvement framework by the introduction of SEAD framework as the structured approach for SEW identification and prioritization. Evaluation Of International Safety Management (ISM) Code Implementation Using Quantitative Descriptive Methods And Quality Function Deployment On Crossing Ship

Purpose: The International Safety Management Code (ISM Code) has been coming into force for passenger ferries in Indonesia since 1998—ships that are mandatory to apply the ISM Code are subject to audit periodically by the competent authorities. Even so, there are still many non-conformities found in the implementation of the ISM Code, also the number of ship accidents is not significantly reduced to close to zero accidents. It is necessary to carry out an analysis related to the implementation of the ISM Code from another point of view, hence from the point of view of the implementing party of the ISM Code. In this research, the level of implementation analysis is measured by the requirement elements in the ISM Code and the existing obstacles.
 Design/methodology/approach: The method used is a mixed method, which is quantitative methods and Quality Function Deployment (QFD). Quantitative methods are carried out by means of literature studies, interviews, and surveys by distributing questionnaires.
 Findings: The results of the quantitative method are analyzed and followed by the QFD method with the main instrument the House of Quality (HOQ), to obtain input (technical response) from ISM Code experts. The technical response is then selected based on priority level and will become a proposal for improving the level of implementation of the ISM Code. The ship data taken in this study are passenger ferries which are serving route of Lembar - Padangbai and Lembar - Kayangan. From the results of the descriptive quantitative analysis, ten indicators of implementation and five indicators of obstacles were obtained and became priorities for improvements. Based on these results, twenty-two priority technical responses were obtained to improve the implementation of the ISM Code on passenger ferries serving routes of Lembar – Padangbai and Lembar – Ketapang.

STREATEGI PENINGKATAN KUALITAS PELAYANAN PERPUSTAKAAN XYZ DENGAN METODE QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT

This study analyzes the quality of service from the XYZ Library to users both students and lecturers. This study uses the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method using the House of Quality (HOQ) model which is guided by the Servqual Method. This method can evaluate the quality of service from the XYZ Library so that it can improve the quality of service to library users. With this method, priority service improvement is obtained so that plans to improve services can be clearly implemented.

Development of Traditional Market Garbage Bin

A garbage bin is a tool for handling waste in the Demangan and Sentul markets. Garbage leachate is terrible for the environment and humans and is a location for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes to breed due to ammonia compounds in leachate. This research aims to redesign the garbage bin so that it is optimal for controlling and managing waste and minimizing its impact. The garbage bin is designed using the Quality Function Deployment method. The garbage bin design has nine attributes from the customer's voice and sixteen technical response attributes. The technical response attribute becomes the part deployment input, resulting in twenty one part specification attributes. The priority attribute divides the shelter into two parts: the organic and non-organic waste has CW=662.16. The developed garbage bin design advantages are storage space according to type, wastewater storage, and minimizing waste's destructive impact.

Enhancing Sugar Sales Through Quality Improvement and Customer Preferences

This study investigates factors influencing the selling price of PT PG Candi Baru's sugar products, utilizing the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) - Kano method and Quality Function Deployment (QFD). Despite consistent sales growth, the company's selling value needs enhancement. Findings reveal PT PG Candi Baru's superiority in product design, packaging durability, and availability compared to competitors. However, deficiencies in the weight measurement parameter of the 1 kg retail sugar product are noted. Renewing the 1 kilogram retail machine, integrated with a scale with an error rate of less than 0.5, is proposed to address this issue. Additionally, tightening quality control selection related to weight measurement is recommended. This research offers insights for improving PT PG Candi Baru's product competitiveness, contributing to the understanding of customer preferences and suggesting actionable strategies for the company's development. Integrating Sentiment Analysis and Quality Function Deployment for Product Development

The development of technology and media has made online data reviews a promising data source. Through machine learning utilizing text processing, data analysis of Ventela Public Low product reviews can be carried out—sentiment analysis is used to find class groups from each data. The classification algorithm is Naïve Bayes and Support Vector Machine (SVM). A classification model with the best performance and accuracy values will be selected. Word association is then applied to obtain information from the required class. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a tool used to assist designers in developing products. The results of the integration of sentiment analysis into QFD show that sentiment analysis produces information by the provisions of the QFD method and can support the product development process in terms of the amount of data various data topics and reduces the subjectivity of designers at the stage of determining Voice of Customer (VOC) and performance values of products and competitors

Designing an IoT-Based Vest for Elderly People with Dementia

The increasing elderly population is causing various changes that have an impact on health problems, one of which is cognitive function, namely dementia. This research will aim to create a smart vest that will have the main feature of location tracking, especially when the user is outside the home and has no supervision. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method, usability, and anthropometry will be used to determine appropriate evaluation steps based on product needs analysis to ensure users can use the product easily, efficiently, and satisfactorily. In making VesTi products, several processes are carried out based on the main and body parts, namely the front and back vest, vest pockets, zippers, heart rate sensors, airbags, GPS sensor module, and crash collision sensor. Using the QFD method, the crash sensor variable has a value importance rating of 5.33 and a value relative view of 30%, which means that more attention is needed for developing crash sensors in VesTi products. Based on usability testing, the level of satisfaction at grades A+ or acceptable. The anthropometry used; chest circumference is 106 cm, shoulder width is 37 cm, waist circumference is 100 cm, wrist circumference is 18 cm, and front torso height is 67 cm.

A Big Data-Kano and SNA-CRP Based QFD Model: Application to Product Design Under Chinese New E-commerce Model

Chinese E-commerce market is increasingly saturated, fierce competition has spawned a new E-commerce model: more and more enterprises set up direct-sale stores on online shopping platforms to reduce costs by lessening intermediate links of sales and make products more competitive. However, new model also makes the enterprise face a series of customer needs from production to after-sales. Quality function deployment (QFD) has been proved be an effective method to integrate customer requirements (CRs) into the improvement of engineering characteristics (ECs) of products or services. To effectively identify CRs and determine the development direction of ECs, this article proposes a new QFD method based on the extended Kano model and social network analysis (SNA) method by considering the characteristics of online shopping reviews and the social relationship between the enterprise's departments. CRs are identified through crawler and word frequency analysis, while their Kano categories are generated by sentiment analysis and frequency-inverse document frequency algorithm. The objective weights of CRs are determined by word frequency and dynamically adjusted depending on enterprise's development stages. A SNA based consensus reaching process is devised to determine ECs’ priorities. The practicality of the proposed QFD model is verified by a case study of mobile phone design under the new E-commerce model. A comparative analysis shows the essential characteristics of the model, and the influence of calculation parameters is shown by the sensitivity analysis.
