The research uses the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach to study the development of the Mathematical Labyrinth board game application. The problem with this study is the incomplete quality of the Math Labyrinth application, such as unavailable tutorial on the use of the application in video form, a lack of language choices on the application, a design that does not match the color display on the game board, and bugs or errors still found on the app. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is intended to help solve the problem through user feedback to meet user expectations of the Mathematical Labyrinth application. The method used in this research is quantitative research. The sample population in this study was taken using non probability sampling method with purposive samplings in data collection with 36 respondents. Data analysis techniques using the IBM SPSS Statistic 20 analytical tool. Based on the results of the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) analysis on further product development, the developer team needs to pay attention to priority technical interests such as the entire mode on the game can be played, improve the features of the application more attractive, can train the ability to think and as an alternative to learning, the application works well, improves the ease of use of the app, and improves color combinations that fit the game board.

Engineering characteristics prioritization for quality function deployment by using CRITIC and cumulative prospect theory with extended hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a powerful approach for improving product quality that can transform customer requirements (CRs) into engineering characteristics (ECs) during product manufacturing. The limitations of traditional QFD methods lead to imprecise quantification of CRs and difficulty in accurately mapping customer needs. To address these issues, this paper introduces an innovative QFD approach that integrates extended hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (EHFLTSs), CRITIC, and cumulative prospect theory. The method expresses the subjectivity and hesitancy of decision makers when evaluating the relationship between ECs and CRs using EHFLTSs, considering the conflicts among CRs. The CRITIC is used to comprehensively evaluate the comparison strength and conflict between indicators, and the cumulative prospect theory is utilized to derive the prioritization of ECs. A case study is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A new CoCoSo ranking-based QFD approach in Pythagorean fuzzy environment and its application on evaluating design attributes of mobile medical App

Quality function deployment (QFD) is a customer-driven product development technique that converts customer requirements (CRs) into design attributes (DAs) of a product and service. Nevertheless, in real situations, the traditional QFD method has been found that possesses some deficiencies, such as the accuracy assessment of relationships between CRs and DAs, and the inter-relationships among DAs. To fill in the above gaps, this study develops a new QFD approach by a CoCoSo-based ranking method under Pythagorean fuzzy environment. To begin with, an extended Pythagorean fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method is proposed to identify the relationships within DAs. Second, the aggregation method of the weighted average method and objective penalty function are propounded to construct the programming models for calculating the importance of DAs under Pythagorean fuzzy setting. Third, a new CoCoSo-based ranking method for Pythagorean triangular fuzzy numbers (PTrFNs) is proposed to obtain the ranking of DAs. Lastly, a case regarding “Ping An Health” mobile medical App is carried out to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed QFD approach. The results show that the top DA is perceptibility. Therefore, perceptibility should be focus on firstly in the “Ping An Health” App design, such as system fluency, interface comfort and network stability. Additionally, the results show that the new QFD can express experts’ hesitant assessment information, deal with the interrelations among DAs, and yield more precise rankings of DAs in QFD.

This study investigates the competitiveness of Alanya, a medical tourism destination in Türkiye, and determines appropriate strategies using the analytical hierarchy process and quality function deployment. Data were collected from medical tourism experts to gain managerial insights into the factors affecting the competitiveness of medical tourism. The findings show that medical tourists primarily focus on medical factors such as competence of doctor and quality of treatment. The main strategies to strengthen competitiveness are to create a healthcare-free zone, to increase the number of accredited health care providers, and to encourage the involvement of doctors in academic research and ongoing training. For researchers interested in assessing competitiveness in medical tourism destinations, the study presents general determinants that should be considered in each destination. In addition, the findings show that each medical tourism destination should focus on its own determinants of medical tourism competitiveness when developing its marketing strategies. Finally, it shows that the analytical hierarchy process and quality function deployment approaches can be successfully applied in achieving destination competitiveness and strategic planning, with content validity and importance performance analysis.

PT. Laksana Anda Jaya is a company that operates in the field of providing products and services. Based on the results of observations made by researchers, that the company experienced a decline in revenue, the results in this study using the Balanced Scorecard obtained 4 perspectives, namely. From a financial perspective, looking at Retrun on Capital Employed (ROCE), it is known that during 2021 to 2022 there has been an increase with a target value of 19%, while Retrun On Investment is known to have decreased by 3% during 2021 to 2022, while for operating costs the target achieved has increased by value of 149% in 2021 to 2022, customer perspective as a result of distributing questionnaires which resulted in a customer satisfaction level of 15% with products/services, internal business perspective with innovation processes and after-sales services provided by the company PT. Laksana Anda Jaya at 3.53% and after sales with a target value of 2.95% and operations processes with a target value of 3.57, a learning and growth perspective provides a target value of 20% and employee retention with a target value of 100%. Meanwhile, for the Quality Function Deployment approach, there are several suggestions for improvements that PT needs to improve. Anda Jaya's implementation in the results of these improvement proposals is that there are 6 proposals that need to be prioritized, namely, creating a marketing division (Marketing), building intense relationships with customers, building working relationships with customers, improving performance and providing guarantees, providing a suggestion box and a means for customer complaints and improve the quality of raw materials.

Designing Supply Chain Resilience with a Quality Function Deployment Approach: A Case Study in a Shipping Line Company

Supply chain resilience is needed for companies to be able to reduce the impact of risks that can occur to the company. The purpose of this study is to analyze supply chain resilience in a shipping line company, which is one of the players in the maritime logistics industry. This research adopts a Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach that considers customer needs and maritime risks. The results of this study identified 15 customer needs and obtained 3 priority customer needs, namely no errors on invoices and B/L, professional shipping services and easy and realtime tracking of goods shipments. 18 risks have been identified and 3 risk priorities have been obtained, namely damage to communication devices, handling errors and delays in handling documents or goods by EMKL. 26 causes of risk have been identified and 3 priority causes of risk have been identified, namely lack of skill and accuracy of employees, server disruption and lack of work motivation in employees. Based on the analysis that has been carried out in the previous sections, there are 18 resilience measures as risk mitigation that can be carried out by companies. The following are the top-ranked resilience measures, including providing training on sending and receiving goods, establishing good communication with customers and providing training on how to communicate well.

A novel framework for the simultaneous assessment and uptake of clean cooking technologies by food processing enterprises

Efforts to spread clean cooking technologies (CCT) have been impeded, and adoption rates in many emerging economies are estimated to be relatively low. Myriad factors are related to this issue, particularly among food processing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMFPEs) in Ghana. In this study, end users' requirements (C) are correlated with engineering characteristics (E) to increase the quality of CCT for rapid uptake by the SMFPEs using a hybrid Multi-Tier Framework and Quality Function Deployment approach. Both requirements were: E1 = Cooking exposure, E2 = Cook stove Efficiency, E3 = Convenience, E4 = Safety, E5 = Affordability, E6 = Fuel availability, CT = tripod stove, C1 = LPG, C2 = Electric stove, C3 = Gel stove, C4 = Biogas stove, C5 = Charcoal stove). According to the study's findings, the CCT's ability to handle the weight of their meals, reduce smoke emissions, sustain local kitchen ergonomics, and improved cooking time were the top design requirements from end-users. This means that stoves that meet their criteria would be easily adopted by them for use. Hence, manufacturers and investors may benefit from the findings of this novel study to provide result-based solutions where it matters.

Now it has become a tendency for every parent to bring their baby in all their activities from shopping to malls or traditional markets and not even a few who take their babies while doing work outside the home. many parents wanted a multifunctional pillion chair. One way to do this is to identify what the customer wants and develop pillion chair products using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach. the design concept of the added child pillion chair is to be multifunctional. The multifunctionality in question is that the child's pillion chair has been developed to become a stoller as well so that parents who have children 1-3 years old when traveling using two-wheeled vehicles are not tired of carrying their children. The development of this pillion chair is also based on ergonomic aspects by using the anthropometric method of measuring the child's body. The results of the ergonomic analysis of the child pillion chair using anthropometric calculations are that the seat width is 29cm the seat length is 22cm the backrest height is 31cm the armrest height is 18cm the footrest height is 24cm the seat belt length is 33cm.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT THROUGH DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF TOTE BAG PROTOTYPES USING QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT METHOD (CASE STUDY IN SMEs X)

Every consumer wants a quality product. Likewise, consumer needs for quality tote bag products. A quality tote bag describes the suitability of the specifications of the tote bag with the needs and desires of consumers. Research to improve the quality of tote bag products was conducted at an MSME in Indonesia that sells tote bag products in one of the largest marketplaces in Indonesia. Based on the results of the initial data collection, information was obtained that the quality of the tote bag could still be improved. Therefore it is necessary to do research to produce a better tote bag design. The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach is used to improve the design and specifications of the tote bag product. The research began by gathering information from respondents regarding the needs and desires regarding the tote bag product. The needs and desires that have been identified will become the basis for the development of tote bag products using the House of Quality (HoQ) method. Through the design stages produced several concepts to be selected according to predetermined criteria. Two types of tote bag designs were prototyped to be assessed by consumers. The survey results prove that consumers prefer the newest tote bag product compared to the previous tote bag product.

New approach for quality function deployment based on social network analysis and interval 2-tuple Pythagorean fuzzy linguistic information

Quality function deployment (QFD) is a useful quality management tool for the transformation of customer requirements (CRs) into engineering characteristics (ECs) in product development. In the literature, a lot of QFD approaches have been proposed to overcome the deficiencies and enhance the performance of the traditional QFD method. However, there are several issues deserving further investigation for improving QFD: majority of the existing methods describe experts’ opinions with single linguistic terms directly, which may produce the loss of information; most of the improved QFD methods cannot take the consensus levels among experts into account. In this study, we develop a new integrated QFD approach based on the interval 2-tuple Pythagorean fuzzy linguistic sets (I2PFLSs), the social network consensus reaching (SNCR) model, and an extended combined compromise solution (CoCoSo) method. There are three main contributions of the presented study: First, the correlation assessments between CRs and ECs given by experts are handled with the I2PFLSs. Second, the SNCR with minimum adjustment distance is employed to coordinate experts’ conflict correlation assessments by considering their trust relationships. Third, an extended CoCoSo method is employed to determine the importance ranking of ECs within the interval 2-tuple Pythagorean fuzzy linguistic environment. Finally, we present an electric vehicle product development case to demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed QFD approach. The results show that the new QFD can express experts’ fuzzy and uncertain linguistic assessment information flexibly, deal with experts’ consensus in correlation assessment process, and yield more precise importance ranking of ECs for product improvement.

New approach for quality function deployment based on multi-granular unbalanced linguistic information and consensus reaching process

As a widely used product improvement technique, the quality function deployment (QFD) can satisfy customer requirements and realize higher customer satisfaction by translating them into corresponding engineering characteristics. Nonetheless, two basic challenges hinder the effective application of QFD are the imprecise relationship assessments between customer requirements and engineering characteristics because of the uncertainty inherent in human judgements and the unreasonable importance ranking of engineering characteristics due to the heterogeneity of domain experts. In response, this paper puts forward a new hybrid QFD approach for the priority of engineering characteristics to satisfy customer requirements. First, multi-granular unbalanced linguistic term sets are utilized to describe the vague relational evaluations between customer requirements and engineering characteristics. Then, the opinion evolution social network consensus reaching model is employed to assist QFD experts in deriving consensual relational evaluations. Taking the conflict customer requirements into consideration, the combined compromise solution method is adopted and extended to derive the priority orders of engineering characteristics. To illustrate the practicality and effectiveness of the proposed QFD approach, a product development case about low pressure pulse filter is provided with comparative analysis and simulation experiments. The results show that the proposed approach can represent complex linguistic relationship assessments of experts and determine more accurate priority orders of engineering characteristics in QFD.

The aim of this research is to design a coco coir decomposition machine using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach. The initial step of this research is to identify consumer needs which aims to know and answer consumer needs. The results of identifying consumer needs are used to build a House of Quality (HOQ). Based on the House of Quality (HOQ), the highest weight presentation is on the ergonomics aspect with a value of 94.5%, the size dimensions are in accordance with the average Indonesian body posture, as well as shape designs that are as needed such as non-stretching fibers. The design of the tool is designed in the form of a horizontal tube equipped with a covervalve knives, according to consumer needs, namely saving energy, tools that are easy to operate, safe, comfortable to use. Designing a short-term training course curriculum using the quality function deployment (QFD)

PurposeThis research has been taken up by the human resource center of organization X, for designing a curriculum for a training course named “Basic Computer Application”, by optimizing topics and finalizing teaching strategies, based on needs and expectations collected from past and prospective training participants from different ranks of employees of X. The study aims to discuss this issue.Design/methodology/approachThe research strategy adopted is based on a survey conducted using a specially designed questionnaire. The questionnaire was circulated to 256 personnel selected randomly having computer backgrounds as well as non-computer backgrounds, who had either attended past batches of the same training course or attended different training courses. The data thus collected was processed using VOC Table and the affinity diagram and subsequently fed into the house of quality (HOQ) for obtaining desired output.FindingsThe study has identified and optimized topics for the course, based on employee needs/wants, using the two-stage QFD approach. After delivering the course with an optimized curriculum and teaching strategy, it is observed that the overall participant satisfaction performance of the course has increased from 3 to 4.6, which is higher than the goal set at 4. This indicates an overall enhancement in the satisfaction of participants with the delivery of the new improved course curriculum.Research limitations/implicationsAs indicated by the survey findings, the competence level of personnel with computer backgrounds is higher than that of personnel without computer backgrounds, which would result in different design considerations while constructing QFDs for these two entirely different groups of participants. This study has been limited to the course curriculum design for personnel with non-computer backgrounds only. The curriculum design for personnel with computer backgrounds will be addressed separately, in a future study.Originality/valueThis is an original study conducted on randomly selected employees across the country from among personnel working for different establishments of organization X. The approach taken in this study for optimizing a course curriculum is unique in the way that it uses a two-stage QFD, which is traditionally used for the design of a product, its components, and the subsequent manufacturing process. This study has employed a planning matrix that incorporated participant-given ratings for each individual need and also participant-decided benchmarking ratings of other similar courses. Estimation of final target has been done by factoring in participants' competence ratings for each individual topic, for a more truthful representation of participant opinion on the final output. This study has also adopted a unique approach of considering only top 80% (in terms of frequency of occurrence) of total responses while calculating weighted averages, instead of calculating the mean value of all data points. In this way, only the significant contributors have been considered while analyzing data.

Alleviating Energy Poverty through Renewable Energy Technology: An Investigation Using a Best-Worst Method-Based Quality Function Deployment Approach with Interval-Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Numbers

Renewable energy technology is suitable for reducing energy consumption and emissions, and the corresponding impact on energy poverty has aroused tremendous attention. This paper proposed the best-worst method- (BWM-) based quality function deployment (QFD) approach within interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy number (IVIFN) to select the appropriate renewable energy technology for energy poverty alleviation. QFD is firstly used to explore the relationship between energy poverty reduction requirements (CRs), renewable energy technology selection criteria (TRs), and correlation among TRs. Interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) BWM is then applied for obtaining the correlation among CRs. After that, the IVIF-QFD method is used to attain the weight of TRs, which are then used to evaluate the renewable energy technology alternatives through IVIF-VIKOR approach. The six representative renewable energy technologies, including wind energy, solar energy, biomass (direct combustion, combined heat and power, and gasification), and hydropower have been selected in the decision model, and the result shows that the large-scale hydropower could be selected as the best choice to reduce the energy poverty issues, whose interval numbers is [0, 0.2925]. Except for prioritization of the selected technologies, findings of this paper could also contribute to developing sustainable renewable energy policies and energy roadmaps.

An integrated QFD and fuzzy TOPSIS approach for supplier evaluation and selection

PurposeSupplier evaluation and selection is an essential (multi-criteria decision-making) MCDM process that considers qualitative and quantitative factors. This research work attempts to use a MCDM technique based on merging fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (F-TOPSIS) and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) ideas. The study attempts to find the supplier's attributes (HOWs) to accomplish its goals after determining the product's characteristics to suit the company's needs (WHATs).Design/methodology/approachThe proposed research methodology comprises the following four steps: Step 1: Determine the product purchase requirements (“WHATs”) and those pertinent to supplier evaluation (“HOWs”). In Step 2, the relative importance of the “WHAT-HOW” correlation scores is determined and also the resulting weights of “HOWs”. In Step 3, linguistic evaluations of possible suppliers in comparison to subjective criteria are given to the decision-makers. Step 4 combines the QFD and F-TOPSIS techniques to select suppliers.FindingsA fuzzy MCDM method based on fusing and integrating fuzzy information and QFD is presented to solve the drawbacks of conventional decision-making strategies used in supplier selection. Using the F-TOPSIS method, fuzzy positive ideal solution (FPIS) and fuzzy negative ideal solution (FNIS), the relative closeness coefficient values for all alternatives are computed. The suppliers are ranked by relating the closeness of coefficient values. This method permits the combination of ambiguous and subjective data expressed as fuzzy-defined integers or linguistic variables.Originality/valueQFD and TOPSIS, two widely used approaches, are combined in this article to rank and evaluate suppliers based on the traits that the suppliers choose to prioritize. This study demonstrates that the method employed could address multiple-criteria decision-making scenarios in a computationally efficient manner. The effectiveness and applicability of the method are illustrated using an example.

Application of Quality Function Deployment for the Design & Development of Consumer Cosmetic PackagingBottle

The purpose of this research is to be able to provide alternative product design updates that are acceptable to consumers. The method to be used is the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach. QFD is a structured product planning and development method, to clearly determine the desired consumer needs and then carry out systematic calculations, ultimately produce products that can satisfy consumers. The results of this study obtained the highest rating value was the technical response of the packaging design with a value of 400.00, then in second place with a value of 162.96 namely the strength of the packaging material, the selection of packaging materials and the quality of packaging.

Improving Fall Detection Devices for Older Adults Using Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Approach.

Engineering invention must be in tandem with public demands. Often it is difficult to identify the priorities of consumers where technological advancement is needed. In line with the global challenge of increasing fall prevalence among older adults, providing prevention solutions is the key. This study aims at developing an improved fall detection device using an approach called Quality Function Deployment (QFD). The goal is to investigate features to incorporate in existing device from consumer's perspectives. A three-phases design process is constructed; (1) Questionnaire, (2) Ishikawa Method, and (3) QFD. The proposed method begins with identifying customer needs as the requirement analysis, followed by a method to convert them to design specifications to be added in a fall detection device using QFD tool. As the top feature is monitoring balance, the new improved fall detection devices incorporating balance features will help older adults to monitor their level of risk of falling.

Trend analysis of technology by using F-trem japanese patent and core technology clarification with Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach

When a company develops technologies or products, it is important to obtain the trend of technology. It is necessary to obtain the trend of technology from macro and micro perspectives. In this case, patent information was used in both macro- and micro- perspectives. The core technologies of the companies are used to analyze the trend of technology from the micro perspective. The QFD approach is used as a method to identify the core technology of a company. From the core technology obtained by the QFD method, the patent classification codes are identified. The changes in technology were obtained by using the patent classification code.
