PROFESSIONAL CAREER SUPPORT TEACHER-PSYCHOLOGIST

The article deals with the problem of professional development of a psychologist's career in education. The authors of the article clarify the concept of «professional career»; identify the necessary and sufficient organizational and managerial conditions for supporting the professional career of a teacher-psychologist; conclude that the development of auto psychological competence in teachers-psychologists at the stage of professional adaptation is relevant.Analysis of the results of the study showed that young educational psychologists are focused on professional self-development, but they need competent support for their professional career. The authors describe the experience of practical implementation of organizational and managerial conditions for supporting the professional career of a teacher-psychologist, and note the positive dynamics of the participants ' readiness to build a professional career.The article is intended for public reading, as well as for those who are interested in psychological and pedagogical research.

FUNCTIONAL AND TYPOLOGICAL FEATURES OF TITLES

The functional and typological features of titles are investigated. It is found out, that due to the use of titles in modern texts, the following main functions of the titles are distinguished: informative, nominative, advertising, expressive, evaluative, integrative, compositional. Titles can be classified depending on the numeber of elements of the text they express. On this basis unidirectional and complex titles are highlighted. It is exposed, that from the point of informing titles are divided into the following categories: that fully inform about one or another element of the text, clear to reading publications (fully informing titles); titles-signs of semantic element, that only signal about it (dotted titles); titles, that inform about the meaning, that verbally is not expounded in text, but entered to the implication and titles, that become clear only after reading of the text and perceived retrospectively.

Racializing infertility: How South/Asian-ness has been constituted as an independent risk factor in infertility research and IVF practice

Since the 1990s, scientific studies have explored possible correlations of “race/ethnicity” with ovarian aging and, by extension, the outcome of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedures. Relying on a close reading of English-language scientific publications about “Asian” or “South Asian” women, corroborated by interviews with selected authors in 2018 and 2021 as well as ethnographic research in India conducted between 2010 and 2017, I analyze processes and practices of racializing infertility over time and across space. In a first step, I explore the socio-political configurations through which South/Asian race/ethnicity became a relevant variable in infertility research between the 1990s and 2010s. Further, I interrogate how South/Asian race/ethnicity has been scientifically mobilized and problematized by examining publications from the US, the UK, and India/Spain. I argue that South/Asian race/ethnicity has been constituted as an independent risk factor for ovarian aging and/or IVF outcome by invisibilizing possible alternative explanations for inequalities with regard to infertility and by establishing comparability and continuity between contexts. Inquiring why researchers actively try to make a seemingly universal notion of South/Asian race/ethnicity present in their work, I point to global scientific hierarchies and postcolonial power dynamics that characterize this body of literature. Finally, I explore the implications that the notion of South/Asian-ness as risk has in medical practice in India and illustrate how it contributes to bringing the (in)fertility of bodies racialized as “South Asian” into new realms of capital accumulation.

Echoes of Protest: Barbauld’s Anti-War Afterlife

ABSTRACT This essay examines Anna Barbauld’s public protest through her antiwar afterlife and her contemporaneous reception, including accounts of her support for the French Revolution in the Belfast News-Letter. The essay identifies heretofore unknown reprintings of Barbauld’s antiwar rhetoric from Sins of Government, Sins of the Nation in a range of sources, from nineteenth-century British newspapers to nineteenth-century American schoolbooks to an early twentieth-century journal in Newfoundland to a Vermont newspaper in 1918, among others. Included in this “afterlife” is a work heretofore not addressed in scholarship. The piece is called “The Contrast: Or Peace and War,” published in The Athenaeum (1807). Barbauld’s “The Contrast,” the first prose poem in English, betrays an increasing pessimism that would find its profoundest expression in Eighteen Hundred and Eleven (1812). The essay contends that the Biblical cadences and pedagogical style of Barbauld’s landmark Hymns in Prose for Children (1781) represent a formal underpinning for the unsentimental expressions of “The Contrast.” Scholars must pursue with renewed vigor efforts to “uncover” or “unmask” evidence of women’s protest writing that became anonymously excerpted for a public readership. Despite the odds, Barbauld’s protests nevertheless persisted.

Mary Leslie: The Journey of A Lost Canadian Author

This paper examines the life of a Canadian writer of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries named Mary Leslie who experienced moderate success as an author. Despite her numerous efforts to write and publish stories, she failed to gain a public readership and was almost entirely forgotten by history. Her single novel is impossible to find and is ignored by both literary and Canadian historians alike in spite of its unique depiction of mid-nineteenth century rural Ontario and its unconventional perspective of class, gender, and romance of her time. This paper follows Leslie’s transatlantic journey within the literary world to provide a perspective on the experiences of Canadian women, their barriers, and areas of opportunity that could have afforded them success. By drawing heavily on the analysis of archival material, including correspondence, financial records, published and unpublished manuscripts, a vibrant woman with a passion for storytelling is revealed.

Medico-legal implications for the colon perforation during colonoscopy

Colon perforation is the most serious complication of colonoscopy, and tends to be considered as malpractice. The aim of this study was to identify the characteristics and causes of medical accidents by analyzing lawsuit cases on colon perforation during colonoscopy. We collected judgment results that were ruled from 2005 to 2015 using the keyword ‘colonoscopy’ in the ‘Korea's Written Judgment Public Reading System’ of the Supreme Court, and extracted the cases of colon perforation. Characteristics of medical accidents and the decisions of courts were analyzed from written judgments. Twenty-two lawsuits were analyzed. Most cases were ruled in favor of the plaintiff (n = 20). The allegations against defendants, as filed by the plaintiffs, were performance error (n = 22), improper monitoring after colonoscopy (n = 7), and a lack of informed consent (n = 8). The median compensation was 9335.47 US dollars; this is about 130 times the cost of a single colonoscopy in Korea. The greater the intestinal damage, the greater the amount of compensation (p = 0.016). The time interval from procedure to diagnosis of perforation was most frequently 24 h later (n = 9). It is important to educate patients completely about the symptoms of colon perforation and to guide them to contact medical institutions immediately when symptoms occur. In addition, doctors should explain sufficiently the possibility of perforation before colonoscopy to the patient, and not the caregiver, and get informed consent.

Expanding agency: The mapping of architectural design discourse in Indonesia's academic publications

Architectural academic publications are essentials elements in defining and establishing the architecture academic discourses in institutional context. A critical, retrospective reading of past and present architectural publications could reveal the current development of the field and provide an empirical basis for future actions. This paper digitally maps the notion of ‘design’ within the published articles in Indonesian architectural journals from the past decade to understand the current situation and present the country’s challenges in developing the architectural design discourse. Through consideration of architectural academic journals’ role in establishing the field’s boundary, a bibliometric mapping was performed on a corpus of 1031 abstracts collected from prominent Indonesian architectural journals. This paper reflects on the extracted key terms from the corpus through different mapping strategies using bibliometric analysis methods. From the mapping findings, and by extending the notion of design as a transformative agency in architecture, this paper retrospectively suggests a more diverse, creative, and provocative development of design discourse in Indonesian architectural academic scholarship.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Journals’ Presence on Social Media: An Adaptation to Enhance Publication Readership and Interdisciplinary Collaboration?

As social media continues to grow at a substantial rate, patients, physicians, and surgeons are more connected than ever. Twitter currently estimates 1 in every 5 Americans are using their platform. Instagram reports a high volume of active users as well, and along with Twitter, may be useful in facilitating digital conversations in medicine.1 Medical journals may initiate these conversations by sharing medical information and encouraging collaboration between physicians on social media. Over the last few years, other medical journals have developed their social media presence,2 but what about oral and maxillofacial surgery journals?

Putting the “Public” in Rhetoric & Public Affairs

Abstract We argue that part of Rhetoric & Public Affairs’ future should center public-facing scholarship in rhetorical studies. We begin by chronicling some of the work colleagues are doing to bridge expert and lay publics: podcasts, popular and trade press interviews, social media content development and management, and activist engagements. Centering public-facing scholarship creates several notable shifts: (1) it changes the “so what?” for traditional scholarship by inviting scholars to think about audiences outside of journal readership; (2) it opens space for different stylistic conventions in scholarly writing; and (3) it indicates that nonexpert audiences are valuable as readers. We note the considerable barriers to entry to public scholarship including gatekeeping, framing public scholarship for tenure, and training. We contend that Rhetoric & Public Affairs could lead other journals through an updated definition of impact that takes into account contemporary modes of circulation and sharing, should accept pieces written for nonexpert readers in rhetoric, and should consider, if possible, making available for public reading one scholarly article every month or every quarter.

Public Libraries National Network

Exactly 20 years ago I was asked to build a program for the promotion of public reading in Portugal, which would be supported by a partnership between central and local administration, aiming to create and develop public libraries with all the modern requirements, then pioneering, in our subject. The technical and financial support, conceived as program-contracts – which only after, were generalised for other purposes – was taken as a model for several more recent networks of cultural equipments, as it was considered a success case at a national and international level.

 Le festival littéraire Les Correspondances d’Eastman, qui a lieu en Estrie, au Québec, offre une programmation variée comprenant notamment des lectures publiques, des entrevues d’auteurs, des spectacles littéraires et des ateliers d’écriture. Sa spécificité consiste à proposer aux visiteurs d’écrire des lettres dans des jardins d’écriture aménagés par les citoyens du village d’Eastman. D’un côté, en incitant l’ensemble des visiteurs à prendre la plume, le festival encourage la démocratisation de la littérature et de la création littéraire. D’un autre côté, le festival supporte la professionnalisation des écrivains reconnus en rémunérant leur participation aux activités et en leur offrant une plateforme de promotion et une visibilité accrue. À partir des tensions sous-jacentes à ces deux facettes du festival, l’article propose d’explorer le·s rôle·s des festivaliers dans le cadre des Correspondances d’Eastman et de le·s comparer avec celui des écrivains professionnels. L’analyse sera particulièrement centrée sur les interactions entre les visiteurs et les écrivains professionnels, qui oscillent constamment entre la proximité, l’intimité et la distance.
 
 
 

Sociálne a vzdelávacie funkcie (literárnych) naratív

The study deals with social and educational functions of (literary) narratives – both oral and written – in everyday life of a socially grounded individual. Narratives (or stories told or read) play an essential role in building and strengthening social bonds within a community (by spending time together, informing its members of preferred social values and behaviour patterns, etc.) The author sustains that narratives circulating within a particular community (or ethnic group, nation) should be viewed and analyzed from the perspective of cultural anthropology. As an educational tool, stories are utilized not only in families and schools, but also in penitentiary and correctional institutions or in public reading courses. The author also pays attention to particular structural components of “captivating” narratives (such as novelty, surprise, cognitive and/or emotional relevance to the reader, etc.) and so-called narrative universals – themes, types of characters, plots and settings that are common to all cultures worldwide (such as romantic love, human desires and needs, sacrifice, etc.).

Hell in the Cave: Falling down to find the light

When it comes to Hell, nothing is more appropriate than thinking about the Divine Comedy. In fact, this internationally famous poem by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri portrays the most popular and famous Hell in Western culture. From its very beginning, this poem has been performed in public readings and spread throughout the world and adapted in many ways. In the second half of the nineteenth century, a new tradition of shows paved the way for the many others that followed during the twentieth century, especially in relation to the various anniversaries of the birth and death of the poet. From the sixties and seventies, thanks to the theories and practices of New Theatre, the staging of Dante was given a second life: new techniques as well as new spaces were made available to the performers. The contemporary scene of the twenty-first century has developed from these multiple instances and now faces a new contribution, from social media. This article analyses a specific performance of Dante’s Inferno called Hell in the Cave. This show, performed for the first time in May 2011, gathers the audience and leads it deep inside the earth -- like a ‘second Dante’ -- using the geological site of Castellana Caves near Bari in Italy. The perfect setting of the caves offers a unique and immersive experience to the audience, who are also asked to take an active part in the infernal story. This vision of Hell combines drama, music and acrobatic dance with a singular setting in order to provide the most authentic impression of sin and damnation. This captivating performance testifies to a new kind of approach to performing Hell, especially related to Dante’s staging tradition.

COVID-19 information contact and participation analysis and dynamic prediction in the Chinese Sina-microblog

The outbreak of a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) aroused great public opinion in the Chinese Sina-microblog. To help in designing effective communication strategies during a major public health emergency, we analyze the real data of COVID-19 information and propose a comprehensive susceptible–reading–forwarding–immune (SRFI) model to understand the patterns of key information propagation considering both public contact and participation. We develop the SRFI model, based on the public reading quantity and forwarding quantity that denote contact and participation respectively, and take into account the behavior that users may re-enter another related topic during the attention phase or the participation phase freely. Data fitting using the real data of both reading quantity and forwarding quantity obtained from Chinese Sina-microblog can parameterize the model to make an accurate prediction of the COVID-19 public opinion trend until the next major news item occurs, and the sensitivity analysis provides the basic strategies for communication.

Después de recordar la situación a finales de la era colonial y principios de la independencia, destaca el papel de Mariquita Sánchez, Petrona Rosende de Sierra, Rosa Guerra y Juana Manso en esta obra educacional, tanto como maestras como escritoras.

Intersectionality on the go: The diffusion of Black feminist knowledge across disciplinary and geographical borders.

Kimberlé Crenshaw coined the term “intersectionality” in 1989 as a critique of feminist and critical race scholarship's neglect of—respectively—race and gender. Since then, the concept has been interpreted and reinterpreted to appeal to new disciplinary, geographical, and sociocultural audiences, generating heated debates over its appropriation and continued political significance. Drawing on all 3,807 publications in Scopus that contain the word “intersectionality” in the title, abstract, or keywords, we map the spread of intersectionality in academia through its citations. Network analysis reveals the contours of its diffusion among the 6,098 scholars in our data set, while automated text analysis, manual coding, and the close reading of publications reveal how the application and interpretation of intersectional thinking has evolved over time and space. We find that the diffusion network exhibits communities that are not well demarcated by either discipline or geography. Communities form around one or a few highly referenced scholars who introduce intersectionality to new audiences while reinterpreting it in a way that speaks to their research interests. By examining the microscopic interactions of publications and citations, our complex systems approach is able to identify the macroscopic patterns of a controversial concept's diffusion.

Adrien d’Oudenbosch et le légendier de Saint-Laurent à Liège, ca. 1480-1482 (Bruxelles, Bibliothèque royale, 9291, 9368, 9378)

This article deals with a legendary in three volumes compiled at the abbey of Saint-Laurent in Liège around 1480-1482 (Brussels, KBR, 9368, 9378, 9291). After a brief physical description of these manuscripts, one attempts to reconstruct their history and to identify their functions within Saint-Laurent’s community (public reading, mainly in the refectory). The study also characterizes their content, which echoes the cult of saints revered at Saint-Laurent, and displays a distinctive Liège coloration. Regarding the genesis of the collection, the following points can be made: although the legendary includes stories from the Legenda aurea and the Speculum historiale, most of its material was borrowed from traditional legendaries available in Saint-Laurent’s library; there is also evidence of a possible recourse to external resources (passional of Saint-Trond). The final part of the article focuses on the compilers of the collection, which was probably produced under the supervision of Adrien d’Oudenbosch, the most celebrated Liège chronicler of the second half of the 15th century.
