Training Methods for Students-Foreigners with the English Level Lower than A1

The English language level of students-foreigners who are going to study at Ukrainian Universities plays a crucial role especially in the cases when their future practical lessons and lectures are delivered in English. The group of Turkish students who had to undergo the training in Medical University as future doctors demonstrated during the preliminary linguistic tests that English (and Ukrainian) knowledge of the majority of students was even lower than A1 level. The causes were as follows: the low level of school education, geographical position of their native places, i.e. their remoteness from the cultural centers of the country, age (the younger the worse) and others. The situation made the Ukrainian teachers, who were responsible for their English training, use some uncommon methods, which should have led to positive results. The methods are as follows: first of all to brake the opposition “teacher – students” which allows to put teachers and students in the same social position; to forbid the use of computer translator during the lessons except for learning the new lexis to stop the irresponsible attitude of students to classes; to control psychological situation during the training and follow the University psychologists advices. The results of such methods use are described in the presented article.

THE RELATION BETWEEN SELF-ESTEEM AND BODY DISSATISFACTION

The main goal of this article is to explore the connection that exists between body dissatisfaction and ranges of self-esteem in undergraduate students in the Department of Psychology of University of Tirana. The method applied for the deployment of the present study is a Quantitative with a Cross-sectional Descriptive-Correlational layout and a non-probabilistic sort of comfort or intentional sampling. The sample of the present research is composed of 120 undergraduate students. The instruments that have been used within this study include: the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) and the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory. Data were examined through SPSS version 27. Results showed an inversely proportional correlation. Indices show that the higher the level of self-esteem, the lower the degrees of body dissatisfaction. In conclusion, it was observed that students reveal a greater influence of the external and social factors in their overall body dissatisfaction.

Exploration of the Curriculum Reform Path in the Period of High-Quality Development of University Educational Psychology

The theoretical and applied characteristics of educational psychology courses in colleges and universities are prominent, and actively promoting curriculum reform is more conducive to promoting the implementation of talent training goals, which is in line with the practical needs of social development for high-quality talents. However, curriculum reform is a systematic project, which involves the innovation of curriculum content systems, teaching methods, teaching evaluations, and so on. This paper mainly expounds on the curriculum reform path in the period of high-quality development of educational psychology in colleges and universities, hoping to play a reference role in improving the level of education management.

A qualitative study of clinicians' impressions regarding the implementation of a clinical and research data collection system

AbstractBackgroundSystematically collecting data on clientele databases allows for describing the clientele's needs and addressing various clinical research questions. Conducted in a university psychology clinic, this initiative seeks to improve the overall quality of care provided by integrating evidence‐based practices. This study works to bridge the gap between clinical practice and research.AimsThis study aimed to describe the potential repercussions and clinicians' impressions regarding the implementation of this procedure.Research DesignAn inductive qualitative approach, inspired by Husserl's descriptive phenomenology, was used. To be consistent with this approach, data analysis followed Giorgi's five‐step scientific phenomenological method.Data Collection and AnalysisSemi‐structured individual interviews were conducted with 14 volunteer clinicians using an interview guide. The data were analysed to extract central themes using Giorgi's method, which involves collecting verbal data, reading the data, dividing it into units of meaning, organising the data using the language of the discipline and synthesising the results.ResultsFive central themes emerged: barriers to implementation, potential impacts on therapy, recommendations to enhance participation, perceived utility and an attitude of openness.DiscussionThe pilot project provides valuable insights into the feasibility and acceptability of systematic data collection in a clinical setting. Clinician consultation proves to be essential in the implementation process, highlighting the importance of addressing practical and philosophical obstacles.ConclusionUnderstanding clinicians' experiences can guide future implementations of similar systems and improve clinical practice by supporting the integration of systematic data collection. Enhanced communication and training on the data collection system are suggested.

PROCRASTINATION AND ANXIETY AMONG PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS IN A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IN EAST MALAYSIA

Procrastination is prevalent and pernicious but not entirely understood. It has been seen as a universal phenomenon that hinders people’s ability to accomplish their goals. Procrastination can be defined as lack or absence of self regulated performance and the behavioural tendency to delay what is necessary to reach a goal. It appears to be a troubling phenomenon and yet human beings have been procrastinating for centuries. University students are the backbone of society. They need to be aware of their procrastination attitude so that they could tackle the problem. Anxiety on the other hand is a negative feeling. Studies show that a relationship exists between procrastination and anxiety. However very few studies investigate procrastination and anxiety, especially among Psychology and Social Work students in the public university in Malaysia. In view of this, the objectives of this study are to examine: (1) the difference in procrastination by gender; (2) the difference in anxiety by gender; (3) the relationship between procrastination and anxiety. This study managed to get 304 samples for the objectives above. The difference of gender was tested by t-test; while the relationship between procrastination and anxiety was tested by correlation. The results of this study indicated that female students engaged more in major procrastination, whereas male students engaged more in moderate procrastination. However, there were no significant differences on procrastination and anxiety between gender. The finding also showed a significant relationship between procrastination and anxiety.

The American Psychological Association and antisemitism: Toward equity, diversity, and inclusion.

In the article, three sentences and a reference were redacted related to proceedings against a university concerning its psychology program because appropriate context was not provided in the article. All versions of this article have been corrected.] This article calls for the American Psychological Association (APA) to proactively include the elimination of antisemitism or prejudice against Jewish people in its current mission to disassemble all forms of racism from its organization as well as society. In this article, Jews (estimated as 2.4% of the population) are defined as a people with a common identity, ethnicity, and religion as they experience prejudice; their intersection in Jewish identity; the history and characteristics of antisemitism and its current manifestation in public life, academic institutions, and psychology. Despite Jews having made major contributions to the development of psychology as a profession, historically through the first half of the 20th century, Jews were systematically discriminated against within the discipline of psychology through quotas for acceptance into graduate training, discriminatory employment practices in university psychology departments, and most egregiously through the espousing of "scientific racism" including eugenics by prominent leaders in the APA. We describe how historically leaders in the APA engaged in overt and covert antisemitism while the APA continues to do little or nothing to combat it. We then offer suggestions for the mitigation and elimination of this form of bias, discrimination, and hate as it once again escalates in society. We recommend that the APA engages in research about antisemitism, its predictors, consequences, and power; evaluates the efficacy of intervention programs; encourages contact with various multicultural minoritized groups; and disseminates knowledge to educate about the psychological effects of antisemitism. Professional Realm and Self-cultivation of College Psychological Teachers in the "Internet +" Era

The current wave of the "Internet +" era, big data and artificial intelligence technologies have not only brought new developmental transformations and opportunities to society but have also had a profound impact on the traditional field of education. The development of "Internet +" has given rise to many improved and innovative educational concepts and models, opening new pathways for the reform of traditional education. Driven by this transformation, university psychology teachers should actively embrace the new ideas of "Internet +", integrating both traditional and modern educational concepts and methods. While focusing on enhancing personal basic teaching quality, they should use emerging "Internet +" technologies to comprehensively optimize their knowledge systems and teaching abilities, and apply these new technologies to educational practice. The goal is to more effectively meet the diverse needs of students, adapt to the rapid development of society, and thus realize the value of teachers themselves, showcasing the "people-oriented" educational philosophy, and closely following the pace of integration between "Internet +" technology and education.

College students crisis occurs frequently year by year, the reason, college students themselves, weak frustration ability, lack of mental health knowledge, weak crisis identification ability, weak self-help awareness, etc. In college level, mental health, insufficient number of psychological consultants, mental health committee, peer team selection system, inadequate training, inadequate management; the above is leading to college psychological crisis prediction. At present, our school in the basis of peer members, established the peer team, the combination of two teams greatly improved the coverage of mental health work in colleges and universities, for now the construction of the team to solve the psychological problems of college students universal results, this paper in Hunan university of technology institute of transportation, for example, analysis of peer members and peer team selection, training, optimization of management ideas.

Psychosocial support initiatives in the aftermath of the 2023 earthquake: A university-led community approach

This article discusses the response of a university psychology department to the devastating earthquakes that struck Türkiye on 6 February 2023, resulting in significant loss of life and widespread destruction. This paper focuses on the narrative practices undertaken by a university psychology department in the affected region, particularly the establishment of a psychological support telephone line staffed by volunteer psychologists. Beyond the initial establishment of the support line, the university extended its outreach to address the immediate needs of affected individuals in five cities, and subsequently, within the university premises. A “Tent of Hope” was established within a “container city” of displaced families to continue psychosocial support. This involved the volunteer efforts of psychology students to offer assistance to both children and adults. Initiatives also included the dissemination of a culturally sensitive booklet for the public and the development of a comprehensive booklet for therapists, aiming to empower individuals and communities in the aftermath of trauma. This paper includes reflections from people who contributed to these initiatives, sharing learning and insights relevant to others responding to natural disasters.

The article delves into the problem of cognitive errors among students. It emphasizes the relevance of studying this problem in the aspect of adolescence, which is the period of higher education. The article presents the re-sults of the study of sex differences among student youth, which can be used by university psychologists in preventive and corrective work with boys and girls prone to cognitive errors. The study involved 485 students aged 17–25 years, including 433 boys and 52 girls. The Cognitive Mistakes Questionnaire (CMQ – OKO) (A. Freeman, R. Devulf) was used to identify the tendency to cognitive errors. The analysis of the obtained data allows us to conclude that the hypothesis of the study is partially confirmed: girls are more prone to various types of cognitive errors, while the hypothesis that students have the most expressed propensity to such cogni-tive errors as personalization, stubbornness and maximalism is not confirmed.

Exploring the role of generic competencies in employability and academic performance of students of psychology

This paper analyses the relation between generic competencies of students of Psychology and their academic performance and employability. A sample of 43 students of Psychology in a Spanish university was used to measure their generic competencies, academic performance and employability. Correlational and regression tests were conducted to evaluate the relation between the variables. The generic competence ‘adhering to principles and values’ is positively related to employability, while the competencies ‘achieve results/client satisfaction’ and ‘socialise and create networks’ are positively related to academic performance. No significant relationship was found between academic performance and employability. Generic competencies favour both academic performance and employability. The competencies which influence only one of these aspects are different. Our research offers insights to teacher learning communities to engage in a profound reflection on the inclusion of methodologies that facilitate the development of competencies related to academic performance and those most in demand in the labour market within the field of Psychology. Generic competencies are essential part of the education of students of Psychology. These competencies are institutionally developed with the aim of orienting the education of psychologists towards their future professional practice. It is essential to understand how the development of generic competencies may facilitate academic performance and employability of graduates in Psychology.

The Role of Subjective Socioeconomic Status in Predicting Academic Performance: Exploring the Mediating Influence of Sense of Belonging among Students in a Distance Learning University.

Building upon existing research conducted in face-to-face universities, our research explored whether, in the context of a distance learning institution, the positive association between subjective socioeconomic status and academic performance can be explained by students' sense of belonging. To that end, we conducted a three-wave correlational study with 2,261 students enrolled in Social Psychology in a distance learning university. At the start of the academic year, we measured participants' subjective socioeconomic status relative to other students alongside their initial expectations in terms of time investment and grades and other relevant covariates. Midway through the course, we assessed their sense of belonging to the university and, at the end, we recorded their grades. Results suggested that sense of belonging potentially serves as a mediating factor in the positive relationship between subjective socioeconomic status and grades even after accounting for variables like initial grade expectations, time commitment, gender, age, and employment situation. These findings emphasize the pivotal role of students' psychological connection to the university in shaping their academic achievement, even within the expanding landscape of distance education.
