Dog-assisted physiotherapy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: a randomized controlled pilot study.

Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) is an intervention in which the animal acts as a co-therapist. It has been mainly used in the context of patients with dementia, showing positive effects on psychological symptoms, but its potential as a physiotherapy treatment for patients with neuromuscular disorders, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in particular, has not yet been investigated. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of AAT, specifically of dog-assisted therapy, on motor functions and psychological status in patients with ALS. This study was a randomized controlled pilot study. The study was carried out at the Rehabilitation Unit NEuroMuscular Omnicenter (NEMO) of Arenzano, Genoa. Sixty hospitalized ALS patients were enrolled. All patients ran a regular two-weeks neurorehabilitation program twice a day. For three days a week, in place of the morning traditional treatment, the AAT group performed a rehabilitation session with a simultaneous interaction with the therapy-dog, while the control group performed a traditional rehabilitation session. The outcome measures were the Timed Up and Go Test, the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), the Six Minutes Walk Test, the Ten Meters walking Test and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Both groups showed an amelioration in motor scales. However, SPPB subscales as well as HADS scores showed a statistically significant improvement only in the AAT group (P values from <0.0001 to 0.0004). Additionally, across almost all motor and psychological measures, post-treatments values were significantly better for the AAT group (P values from <0.0001 to 0.01). The obtained results not only suggest that AAT is comparable to traditional physiotherapy treatments, but also evidence that this type of treatment has greater beneficial effects on motor and psychological symptoms in patients with ALS. This study provides first evidence that AAT is a powerful rehabilitation strategy in patients with ALS, improving both motor and psychological symptoms, and therefore possibly ameliorating quality of life.

Mitigation of Effect Modification by Psychological Status in Patients with Hearing Loss

Although patient-reported outcomes provide valuable insights, these subjective data may not align with objective test results. Hearing loss is a pervasive problem, such that concordance between subjective perceptions of hearing ability and objective audiogram assessments would be beneficial. To determine (1) whether psychological status is an effect modifier of the association between subjective patient reports of hearing ability and objective audiometry results, and (2) whether any effect modification observed in standard static questionnaires would be either mitigated or exacerbated by adaptive testing based on Item Response Theory analyses. This diagnostic study at a tertiary care center and community-based practice included consecutive adults who presented with queries related to hearing loss. Participants were recruited and enrolled and data analyses occurred from 2022 to 2024. Participants prospectively reported their hearing-specific abilities through either a standard static or adaptive version of the Inner Effectiveness of Auditory Rehabilitation (EAR) scale, alongside validated measures of their mental health and audiometry. Word recognition scores (WRS) and pure tone averages (PTA) were used to analyze audiometric testing. The association between subjective Inner EAR results and audiometry was evaluated. Stratified analyses were used to assess for effect modification by psychological status. The results of standard static and adaptive testing were compared. In this study of 395 patients (mean [range] age, 55.9 [18-89] years; 210 [53.2%] female), standard static Inner EAR mean scores were appropriately higher in patients with higher (better) WRS (50.7, 95% CI, 46.4-54.9), compared with patients with lower (worse) WRS (34.7, 95% CI, 24.3-45.1). However, among patients with worse mental health, there was no association between standard static Inner EAR scores and WRS. In contrast, adaptive Inner EAR mean scores were significantly higher for those with better WRS, regardless of mental health status. Thus, effect modification was observed in standard static assessments, whereas adaptive testing remained durably associated with audiometry, regardless of mental health. Psychological status was an effect modifier of the association between standard Inner EAR scale scores and audiometry, with a positive association observed only in those with better mental health. Adaptive testing scores, however, remained significantly associated with audiometry, even when mental status was worse. Adaptive testing may stabilize the association between subjective and objective hearing outcomes.

Investigation of high-dose radiotherapy's effect on brain structure aggravated cognitive impairment and deteriorated patient psychological status in brain tumor treatment

This study aims to investigate the potential impact of high-dose radiotherapy (RT) on brain structure, cognitive impairment, and the psychological status of patients undergoing brain tumor treatment. We recruited and grouped 144 RT-treated patients with brain tumors into the Low dose group (N = 72) and the High dose group (N = 72) according to the RT dose applied. Patient data were collected by using the HADS and QLQ-BN20 system for subsequent analysis and comparison. Our analysis showed no significant correlation between the RT doses and the clinicopathological characteristics. We found that a high dose of RT could aggravate cognitive impairment and deteriorate patient role functioning, indicated by a higher MMSE and worsened role functioning in the High dose group. However, the depression status, social functioning, and global health status were comparable between the High dose group and the Low dose group at Month 0 and Month 1, while being worsened in the High dose group at Month 3, indicating the potential long-term deterioration of depression status in brain tumor patients induced by high-dose RT. By comparing patient data at Month 0, Month 1, Month 3, Month 6, and Month 9 after RT, we found that during RT treatment, RT at a high dose could aggravate cognitive impairment in the short term and lead to worsened patient role functioning, and even deteriorate the overall psychological health status of patients in the long term.

Psychological assessment of patients on the heart transplant waiting list: A single center experience.

To analyze the data of the psychological assessment, focusing attention on the quality of life and the psychological status of patients who are listed for heart transplant. All heart failure patients listed for heart transplant at the Cardiac Surgery Unit of Bari University, Italy, were evaluated from September to November 2023, by administering the Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R) and the Short Form Health Survey 36 (SF-36). Overall, 27 patients were studied. Mean age was 60years, 88% were males. One third of the patients showed a clinically significant overall mental distress. The symptoms leading to domains such as somatization (55.55%), anxiety (40.74%) and depression (33.33%) were frequently observed. The majority of the population studied (96.30%) showed low levels of perceived physical health status, while 59,62% of them presented levels of perceived physical health status below normal ranges. Heart transplant candidates show elements of overall mental distress and low quality of life related to physical health status.

Sport impact on patients with psoriasis and psychiatric problems

Introduction: Psoriasis is a systemic inflammatory disease with an immunological basis. The estimated number of people suffering from psoriasis is 60 million. Despite the large number of patients with this diagnosis, the question of which mechanisms are mainly responsible for its development has not yet been answered. One theory is that a change in the patient's psychological state acts as a trigger for the manifestation and worsening of the disease. Another unresolved issue is the relationship between sports and psoriasis. While some studies suggest exercise might worsen symptoms, others highlight potential benefits like improved quality of life. Aim of the study : The aim of our study is to present connection between mental state of patients and occurance of psoriasis. Additionally, the study aims to elucidate the potential benefits of integrating psychological interventions and physical activity into psoriasis management strategies, with the goal of improving patient outcomes and enhancing overall quality of life. Material and methods : We searched electronic databases, using keywords such as „Psoriasis”, „Depression” and „Psoriasis and sport ”. Conclusions : Psoriasis stands as a profound example of the intricate interplay between physical health and mental well-being. The findings presented in this paper underscore the importance of a holistic approach to psoriasis management, integrating dermatological, psychological, and physical interventions.

Effect of cognitive behavioral therapy on pain, knee function, and psychological status in patients after primary total knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis

ObjectiveThe clinical efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) after Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is still controversial, and the purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of CBT on pain, knee function, and psychological status of patients after TKA.MethodsWe systematically searched electronic databases such as CNKI, CBM, VIP, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE for randomized controlled studies up to February 30, 2023. Screening against inclusion criteria to select valid studies and extract data. The quality of included studies was evaluated by the Cochrane Collaboration risk-of-bias 2 (RoB 2) tool for randomized trials. Statistical analysis of the data from this study was carried out using Stata 15.1 software.ResultsFinally, our meta-analysis incorporated seven randomized controlled studies of high quality, including 608 patients. The findings of the meta-analysis demonstrated a noteworthy decrease in kinesiophobia levels during the early postoperative phase in the CBT group as compared to the usual care group (WMD = -6.35, 95% CI: -7.98 to -4.72, Z = 7.64, P < 0.001). However, no statistically significant difference between the CBT and usual care groups in terms of postoperative pain as well as knee function.ConclusionCBT may effectively reduce the level of kinesiophobia in the short term after TKA, but did not significantly relieve knee pain or improve knee function.

Quality of life, psychological states, and personality traits in patients with pectus excavatum

ObjectiveThe quality of life (QOL) and psychological states of patients with pectus excavatum (PE) have yet to be well understood. This study aimed to evaluate the health-related QOL (HRQOL), psychological states, and personality traits of patients with PE, alongside the associations of these factors with the severity of PE. MethodsA cross-sectional evaluation was prospectively performed in patients scheduled to undergo PE repair surgery between July 2019 and April 2021. The primary outcome was the patients’ HRQOL, and the secondary outcomes were depression, social anxiety, self-efficacy, and personality traits. ResultsThe 129 patients were subjected to analyses. The patients' HRQOL had a lower role component summary score (mean±standard deviation: 41.8±12.8, P < .001) than the general population controls. The patients’ HRQOL had a significantly better physical component summary (54.0±10.4, P < .001), and mental component summary (53.3±8.8, P < .001) than that of the general population. Fourteen patients’ (10.9%) and 56 patients’ (43.4%) scores indicated the presence of depression and social anxiety disorder, respectively. The patients’ self-efficacy (46.0±11.4, P, .001) and level of extraversion (46.5±11.8, P < .001) were lower than those of the general population. No significant correlation was found between the severity of PE and these scores. ConclusionsOur study revealed that patients with PE had decreased social-role QOL, depressive tendencies, increased social anxiety, lower self-efficacy, and introverted personalities. No correlation between the severity of PE and the patients’ psychological outcomes implied that surgical implications of PE should not be decided solely by a physical index.

TREATMENT, DISEASE CONTROL, QUALITY OF LIFE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL STATUS IN PATIENTS WITH ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Introduction. The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has the potential to impact disease activity and psychological well-being in people with rheumatic diseases. This study aimed to compare ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients with and without COVID-19 history in terms of treatment, disease control, quality of life and psychological status by providing a cross-sectional look at treatment, disease control, quality of life and psychological status in patients with AS during the COVID-19 pandemic.&#x0D; Methods. The study included 74 AS patients, in two groups based on COVID-19 history. Demographic data and clinical characteristics were recorded. Treatment, disease control, functional status, and quality of life were evaluated using Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index, Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), and impact of COVID-19 on quality-of-life scales. Psychological status was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Hopelessness Scale, and COVID-19 anxiety scale.&#x0D; Results. Of the 74 patients diagnosed with AS, 44 were female and 34 were male. The mean age was 47.3 years. In total, 35 patients (47.3%) had COVID-19. We found that the group without COVID-19 had significantly higher levels of hypothyroidism than the other group (p = 0.008). The BASFI value was significantly higher in the COVID-19 group (p = 0.031). The group with COVID-19 had a substantially higher rate of continuing non-anti-rheumatic drug use than the other group (p = 0.02).&#x0D; Conclusion. During COVID-19 pandemic period, the majority of patients continued their medication, so treatment and disease control were not negatively affected. Having COVID-19 did not cause a significant difference psychologically.

An examination of the psychological well-being of patients undergoing oncological treatments

Cancer remains one of the critical diseases severely impacting the quality of life globally. Patients typically endure both physical and psychological challenges upon diagnosis. They are often faced with the decision of whether to accept the oncological treatment plans proposed by their physicians. The potential psychological changes in patients post-treatment pose a new challenge. This study aims to analyze the impact of various cancer treatment modalities on patients mental health, providing a comprehensive analysis. Utilizing comparative and summary methods, this paper evaluates the impact of different treatment approaches on the psychological state of patients. Patients with cancer commonly experience negative emotions prior to receiving treatment, leading to persistent states of anxiety and depression post-treatment. Proactive psychological interventions are recommended for implementation both before and after cancer treatment. These interventions can effectively alleviate the psychological distress and anxiety experienced by patients.

Investigation and analysis of magnetic resonance imaging experience and psychological status of patients

ObjectiveTo analyze factors influencing the service experience of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination and psychological status of patients admitted to a hospital and propose targeted solutions, and optimize the examination process and nursing by analyzing the MRI examination experience and psychological effect on patients.MethodsThe MRI examination rooms of two tertiary general hospitals in Haikou City were sampled at random, and 206 patients who met the study criteria were surveyed on site.Results(1) The item with the lowest mean score for patient examination services was whether earplugs were provided to the patient during the examination (B8 = 0.47). (2) Environmental logistics experience (16.83 ± 3.036) received the lowest score among the three service experience dimensions. (3) The average anxiety score of the patients was 5.38. (4) There was a positive correlation between the examination experience and the examination service experience of the patients. (5) Patients with higher monthly income had decreased anxiety (coefficient = -2.334), and MRI examination of the extremities relieved the anxiety (coefficient = -4.782).ConclusionThe environmental logistics factors, poor service attitude, examination site, and income were the most significant factors affecting the MRI examination experience and psychological status of patients, which can be improved by providing information, enhancing the waiting environment, providing targeted patient education, and evaluating the experience immediately.

A long-term study comparing the quality of life and psychological status of patients with highly suspicious thyroid nodules ≤ 1 cm undergoing active surveillance with those undergoing immediate surgery.

Limited information is available on the long-term impact of active surveillance (AS) and immediate surgery (IS) on the quality of life (QoL) and psychological status of patients with highly suspicious sub-centimeter thyroid nodules. A prospective study was conducted on 752 patients showing highly suspicious sub-centimeter thyroid nodules, among whom 584 chose AS and 168 chose IS. All patients underwent at least two assessments regarding their QoL and psychological status, using three questionnaires: THYCA-QoL, HADS and EORTC QLQ-C30. Propensity-score matching (PSM) at a ratio of 3:1 was utilized on patients in the AS and IS groups to mitigate selection bias (504 patients in the AS group and 168 in the IS group). Subsequently, the mixed linear model was used to analyze the QoL data. The median time from the initial evaluation to the last follow-up in the AS and IS groups was 24.0 months and 14.2 months, respectively. The AS group showed superior QoL outcomes compared to the IS group, mainly manifested in voice (p < 0.001), sympathetic (p = 0.008), throat/mouth (p < 0.001), and problems with scar (p < 0.001) domains, as per the THYCA-QoL questionnaire. Further, the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire highlighted better outcomes in physical function (p = 0.029), role function (p < 0.001), social function (p < 0.001), global health status (p < 0.001), fatigue (p = 0.012), pain (p = 0.028), appetite loss (p = 0.017), and financial difficulties (p < 0.001). Compared to the initial assessment (one week after surgery), the IS group showed progressive improvements in QoL, especially in voice (p = 0.024), throat/mouth (p < 0.001), physical function (p = 0.004), social function (p = 0.014), nausea & vomiting (p < 0.001), pain (p = 0.006), and appetite loss (p = 0.048) domains as per both questionnaires. Patients with highly suspicious sub-centimeter thyroid nodules who choose IS tend to experience a poorer long-term QoL compared to those who choose AS. Although the situation may improve over time, certain issues might persist, making AS a favorable option for these patients.

Clinicopathological features, psychological status, and prognosis of 33 patients with occult breast cancer.

Occult breast cancer (OBC) has traditionally been considered to be a carcinoma of unknown primary origin with a favorable prognosis and can be treated as stage II-III breast cancer. Due to the small number of cases and limited clinical ex-perience, treatments vary greatly around the world and no standardized treat-ment has yet been established. To investigate the clinicopathological features, psychological status and prog-nostic features of patients with OBC. The clinicopathological data of 33 OBC patients diagnosed and treated in the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University and Xuzhou Central Hospital from November 2015 to November 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The psychological status of OBC patients was evaluated by the Self-rating Anxiety Scale and Self-rating Depression Scale. Patients' emotions, stress perception and psychological resilience were evaluated by the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale, and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), respectively. Patient survival was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and survival curves were plotted for analysis with the log-rank test. Univariate and multivariate survival analyses were performed using the Cox regression model. The 33 OBC patients included 32 females and 1 male. Of the 33 patients, 30 (91%) had axillary tumors, 3 (9%) had a neck mass as the primary symptom; 18 (54.5%) had estrogen receptor-positive tumors, 17 (51.5%) had progesterone receptor-positive tumors, and 18 (54.5%) had Her-2-positive tumors; 24 (72.7%) received surgical treatment, including 18 patients who underwent modified radical mastectomy, 1 patient who underwent breast-conserving surgery plus axillary lymph node dissection (ALND), and 5 patients who underwent ALND alone; 12 patients received preoperative neoadjuvant therapy. All 30 patients developed anxiety and depression, with low positive affect scores and high negative affect scores, accompanied by a high stress level and poor psychological resilience. There were no differences in the psychological status of patients according to age, body mass index, or menopausal status. The overall survival and disease-free survival (DFS) of all the patients were 83.3% and 55.7%, respectively. Univariate analysis demonstrated that the initial tumor site (P = 0.021) and node stage (P = 0.020) were factors that may affect patient prognosis. The 5-year DFS rate of OBC patients who received radiotherapy was greater (P < 0.001), while the use of different surgical methods (P = 0.687) had no statistically significant effect on patient outcomes. Multivariate analysis revealed that radiotherapy (P = 0.031) was an independent prognostic factor. Receiving radiotherapy had a significant effect on the CD-RISC score (P = 0.02). OBC is a rare breast disease whose diagnosis and treatment are currently controversial. There was no significant difference in the efficacy of other less invasive surgical procedures compared to those of modified radical mastectomy. In addition, radiotherapy can significantly improve patient outcomes. We should pay attention to the psychological state of patients while they receive antitumor therapy.

Objective and subjective evaluation of the efficacy of trans-sutural distraction osteogenesis: A correlation analysis between computed tomography measurements and FACE-Q scores

Previous studies on the efficacy of trans-sutural distraction osteogenesis (TSDO) to treat midface hypoplasia caused by cleft lip and palate (CLP) have mainly focused on objective measurements while ignoring the subjective feelings of patients. This study aimed to analyse the changes in and correlation between computed tomography (CT) measurements and FACE-Q scores in patients who underwent TSDO by performing a comprehensive evaluation from both objective and subjective perspectives. This retrospective study included 25 patients with an average age of 10.7 years who had midface hypoplasia caused by CLP and underwent TSDO between August 2018 and December 2022. The average follow-up time was 18.8 ± 7.7 months. Facial morphology and CT measurements, including A-CR, N-A⊥HR, the SNA angle and the L-ZA, indicated significant improvements in midface concavity (all p < 0.0001). All FACE-Q scores (except for facial function) exhibited a significant increase. The ΔA-CR, ΔN-A⊥HR, and ΔSNA angle were strongly correlated with specific aspects of the FACE-Q-Appearance items, including the ΔFACE-Q-Appearance of the cheeks (all p < 0.0001), the ΔFACE-Q-Appearance of the face (all p < 0.0001), the ΔFACE-Q-Appearance of the jaws (all p < 0.01), the ΔSatisfaction with decision (all p < 0.0001) and the ΔSatisfaction with outcome (all p < 0.001). However, the ΔA-CR, ΔN-A⊥HR, and ΔSNA were weakly correlated with other FACE-Q-Health-related quality of life and function items. These findings suggest that both CT findings and FACE-Q scores have their own emphases and advantages. It is necessary to establish an integrated curative effect evaluation model that combines FACE-Q scores with CT measurements to evaluate both the physical health and psychological status of patients.

Investigating Infertility Causes, Obesity Rates, and Mental Status of Infertile Females Attending the Infertility Center at Azadi Teaching Hospital in Kirkuk City, Iraq

Introduction: Worldwide; Infertility is a very challenging condition which brings about significant stressful that effects many individuals and couples. Obesity has become a widespread global issue and has reached epidemic extents with a negative impact on individual's body system including the reproductive system. Infertility can have profound impacts on the emotional well-being and overall quality of life of those affected, often leading to feelings of disappointment and even clinical depression. &#x0D; Objective: This study aims to determine the frequency of causes of infertility among infertile women attending the infertility center in Azadi Teaching Hospital in Kirkuk City, Iraq, as well as, the relation of the duration of infertility to it. Furthermore, to find the prevalence of obesity among those women, assess the rate of depression and anxiety and investigate factors related to them. &#x0D; Subjects &amp; Methods: In this cross-sectional study, one hundred infertile females participated. Information was obtained from all the patients from medical and laboratory findings. A questionnaire about demographic data was designed for all the patients. The psychological status of patients was evaluated by administering the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS) test.&#x0D; Results: The most leading cause of infertility was Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). There were statistically significant differences among the groups of the study regarding the period of infertility the nature of the disorder, 39% of PCOS patients experienced 2-3-year infertility. While 50% of patients with male factors infertility expressed +15-year infertility, 30.9% of patients with mixed male and female factors of infertility expressed 5–9-year infertility. The percentage of primary and secondary infertility was 61.8 and 38.2, respectively. 76.7% of the women who participated were overweight or obese; only 22.3% being of normal weight. 60% of PCOS patients were overweight, and 53% of infertile women with ovulatory causes rather than PCOS were overweight. Just 18% of infertile females consume a healthy diet; furthermore, 80% of them express an uncontrolled weight. Regarding the anxiety HADS score,74 % of infertile women with infertility periods more than four years old expressed an anxiety score above 7 (borderline). 27.7% of infertile women over 40 years old express an abnormal anxiety HADS score. The percentage of abnormal depression on the HADS score in young infertile women was 4.3%, while it was 8.3% in infertile women over 40 years old. &#x0D; Conclusion: PCOS is the most typical cause of infertility in this study. However, there may be other causes of infertility rather than PCOS for long periods of infertility. Among participating infertile women, obesity is prevalent. According to the study's findings, infertility has a significant influence on women in our society and can cause a variety of psychological symptoms, including depression and anxiety.

Application of an ultrasonic bone knife combined with a dental electric motor in the extraction of mandibular middle and low impacted teeth

ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical application of an ultrasonic bone knife (UBK) combined with a dental electric motor (DEM) in the extraction of mandibular middle and low impacted teeth.MethodsFrom January 2022 to May 2023,200 patients with wisdom teeth were randomly divided into three groups: experimental group A (UBK combined with DEM), experimental group B (UBK combined with high-speed turbine mobile phone (HSTMP)), and the control group (bone chisel split crown (BCSC)). The operation time, psychological state during operation, pain, swelling, limitation of mouth opening and other complications on the first, second and third days after operation were recorded.ResultsThe operation time of experimental group A (EAG) (12.95 ± 2.12) minutes was shorter than that of experimental group B (EBG) (17.06 ± 2.25) minutes and the control group (CG) (23.43 ± 2.18) minutes, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The psychological state of the EAG was significantly lower than that of the EBG and CG (P < 0.05). The postoperative pain, swelling, limitation of mouth opening and complications in the EAG were significantly lower than those in the EBG and CG (P < 0.05).ConclusionUBK combined with DEM in the extraction of mandibular middle and low obstructed teeth has good results, good prognosis, high safety, short operation time, better psychological status of patients, low postoperative pain, swelling, mouth opening restriction and complication rate, and is currently the preferred extraction method.

Personalized Music Therapy for Elderly Patients with Chronic Renal Failure to Improve their Quality of Life and Mental Health: A Retrospective Study.

Chronic renal failure (CRF) poses significant clinical risks. Therefore, attention should be paid to the daily nursing of such patients, and better clinical nursing programs should be provided. The data of 120 patients with CRF at Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital from March 2020 to March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. After 8 patients were excluded, 112 patients were finally included in this study. The included patients were divided into group A (58 patients receiving clinical routine nursing) and group B (54 patients receiving clinical routine nursing and personalized music) according to different nursing schemes. The anxiety level, depression level, quality of life (QOL), and clinical satisfaction of the patients in both groups were compared before and after nursing. Before the implementation of nursing, no significant difference existed in the levels of anxiety, depression, and QOL between the two groups (P > 0.05). After nursing, group B had significantly lower levels of anxiety and depression and significantly higher QOL than group A (P < 0.001). No significant difference in clinical nursing satisfaction was found between the two groups (P > 0.05). The implementation of personalized music can improve the QOL and psychological states of patients, with clinical application value.

Stressful life events, psychiatric comorbidities and serum neuromediator levels in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria treated with omalizumab.

Many chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) patients have highly stressful life events and exhibit psychiatric comorbidities. Emotional stress can cause or exacerbate urticaria symptoms by causing mast cell degranulation via neuromediators. To investigate the frequency of stressful life events and compare psychiatric comorbidities and serum neuromediator levels in patients with CSU who responded to omalizumab with healthy controls. In this cross-sectional study, we included 42 patients with CSU who received at least 6 months of omalizumab treatment and a control group of 42 healthy controls. Stressful life events were evaluated with the Life Events Checklist for DSM-5 (LEC-5). The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-42 (DASS-42) was used to evaluate depression, anxiety and stress levels. Serum nerve growth factor (NGF), calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and substance P (SP) levels were measured using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique. Twenty-six (62%) patients reported at least one stressful life event a median of 3.5 months before the onset of CSU. There were no significant differences in all three variables in the DASS subscales between the patient and control groups. Serum NGF levels were found to be significantly lower in patients with CSU (p <0.001), whereas CGRP levels were found to be significantly higher (p <0.001). There was no significant difference for SP. The psychological status of patients with CSU who benefited from omalizumab was similar to that of healthy controls. Omalizumab may affect stress-related neuromediator levels.

Management of Edentulous Patients with Maxillary Substance Loss: A Case Report

Depending on the location and extent of the loss of substance following maxillary resection surgery, all functions of the masticatory apparatus may be adversely affected. Eating and communication are impaired, which has a negative impact on the patient's psychological state [1]. When reconstructive maxillofacial surgery is not possible, rehabilitation with a maxillofacial prosthesis is essential. It must restore functions (phonation, eating, breathing, etc.) and reintegrate the patient into his psychosocial environment by masking his disability [2]. To achieve these objectives, this prosthesis, like a conventional removable prosthesis, must meet the Housset triad (support - retention - stabilisation), but also the objective of tightness. We therefore speak of a "prosthetic tetrad in PMF" (Housset's triad completed by the objective of tightness) [3]. In the case of a completely edentulous arch with substance loss, the treatment becomes more complex due to the reduced support surface. The maxillofacial prosthodontist must therefore be extremely vigilant to ensure the success of this appliance. A wise choice of technique and impression material, as well as respect for the occlusal parameters (occlusal plane, vertical dimension, centric relation, etc.) will ensure prosthetic stability and integration [4]. In this article, we will focus on the peculiarities of the management and the different stages in the fabrication of a maxillofacial prosthesis for a patient with total edentulism and loss of maxillary substance.

İki Farklı Bağırsak Disfonksiyonu Anketinin Rektal Kanser Hastalarının Psikolojik Durumu Üzerindeki Korelasyonu

Aim: Most patients have impaired bowel function after sphincter-sparing surgery (SPS) combined with total mesorectal excision (TME). This study evaluated bowel dysfunction's effect on a patient's psychological state using the LARS Questionnaire (LARS-Q) and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Bowel Function Instrument (MSK-BFI).&#x0D; Material and Methods: Between June 2019 and June 2022, 127 patients operated on for rectal cancer with TME and SPS were examined regarding bowel dysfunction in the sixth postoperative month. The LARS score and MSK-BFI assessed bowel function. Beck anxiety inventory (BAI), Beck depression inventory (BDI), and Beck hopelessness inventory (BHI) were also applied to the patients. The correlation of LARS-Q and MSK-BFI questionnaire scores was examined with each other and the other three questionnaire scores.&#x0D; Results: Major LARS was seen in 29.9% of the patients. MSK-BFI scores were found to be 60. The median MSK-BFI scores for no LARS, minor LARS, and major LARS were 77, 68, and 52, respectively. Strong correlations were found between MSK-BFI and LARS-Q (rs -0.63). When the correlation between LARS-Q and BAI, BDI, and BHI was evaluated, rs 0.38, rs 0.49, and rs 0.56 were found, respectively. When the correlation between MSK-BFI and BAI, BDI, and BHI was evaluated, rs -0.67, -0.71, and -0.74 were found, respectively.&#x0D; Conclusion: Bowel dysfunction is a prevalent condition after sphincter-sparing rectal cancer surgery. Impaired sphincter functions significantly affect patients' social and emotional aspects and negatively affect their quality of life.

Training Future Specialists in Specialty 227 “Therapy and Rehabilitation” at Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University

Physical rehabilitation during military aggression is one of the critical components of medical care for military personnel, their families, and the civilian population affected by the consequences of occupation, violence, bombings, etc. Training future physical therapists is a complex and essential process that requires specialised education, practical experience and constant updating of knowledge and skills. The practice-oriented approach, which allows students to gain real practical experience in treating patients even during their studies and helps them develop the skills and abilities necessary for successful practice, plays a crucial role in the training of physical therapists. The article reveals the peculiarities of training future physical and occupational therapists at Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University in cooperation with various institutions of the social sphere (rehabilitation institutions, various centres of psychosocial assistance). In interaction with the specified institutions, the recipients get to prepare for work in clinical, sports or other environments where their skills will be of actual use. A hands-on approach helps candidates learn to interact with different age groups and patients with different health conditions, from children to adults; contribute to the recovery of the physical and psychological condition of patients, helping them to return to an active life; by developing individual rehabilitation plans, physical therapists help restore mobility and improve patients’ quality of life, reducing the risk of disability.
