Comparative Outcome of Short Proximal Femoral Nail Versus Proximal Femoral Locking Compression Plate in the Management of Unstable Trochanteric Fractures

Introduction: Trochanteric fractures are mostly due to RTA and falls. Unstable trochanteric fractures include those with a reverse oblique fracture line, intertrochanteric comminution, big posteromedial fragment, subtrochanteric extension, a broken greater trochanter and lateral cortex breach. As per the AO Classification of intertrochanteric fractures, AO31-2.2, AO31-2.3, AO31-3.1, AO31-3.2 and AO31-3.3 fall under the category of unstable trochanteric fractures. Internal fixation is mandatory to provide early mobilization of patients with partial weight-bearing and prevent further compli&cations. Materials and Methods: 43 patients more than 18 years old with unstable trochanteric fractures, less than 3 weeks old trauma were included in the prospective study for 1 year period (1st June 2020 to 31st May 2021). 22 cases were treated with short Proximal Femoral Nail (PFN) and 21 cases were treated with Proximal Femoral Locking Compression Plate (PFLCP). Results: (P<0.05), mean duration of surgery, blood loss was less in the PFN group (67minutes; 80mL) than PFLCP group (99 minutes; 152 ml). Union and partial weight-bearing was seen earlier in PFN group (14.1weeks; 10.6weeks) than in PFLCP group (18.7 weeks; 15.8weeks) (P<0.05). Good-excellent outcome was seen in 100% cases in PFN group and 85.71% cases in PFLCP group. There were 3 cases of delayed union in PFLCP group and 1 in PFN group. 1 PFLCP case had malunion in varus deformity. Conclusion: Short PFN is the optimum implant in treatment of unstable trochanteric fractures as it is an intramedullary, load sharing device with short lever arm and hastens biological healing with early ambulation and minimal complications.

The importance of the thickness of femoral lateral wall for treating intertrochanteric fractures: a finite elements analysis

To explore how the thickness of the femoral lateral wall influences the effectiveness of internal fixation systems used to treat intertrochanteric fractures. CT images of the pelvis and femur of a male adult were used to construct an intertrochanteric fracture model (AO/OTA 31-A2) with various thicknesses of the femoral lateral wall (FLW). Four finite element (FE) models were created with the lateral femoral walls being 10 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm, and 40 mm thick. The fracture models were fixed with a dynamic hip screw (DHS), a proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA), and a proximal femoral locking compression plate (P-FLCP). A simulated vertical load was applied to the femoral head. The stress and displacement of the implant and femur in each model were recorded for comparison. The FE analysis of the intertrochanteric fracture models showed that the PFNA system could provide better stability than the DHS and P-FLCP with the same thickness of FLW. The FLW provided buttress support to the femoral head and neck when using a DHS and PFNA, and the buttress strength was proportional to the thickness of FLW. The maximum stress in the DHS model was recorded on the DHS plate which accommodated the lag screw. For the PFNA model, the maximum stress appeared at the connection between the nail and blade. In the P-FLCP model, the maximum stresses were highly concentrated at the connection between the cephalic nails and the proximal plate. The thickness of the femoral lateral wall should be considered an important factor when selecting a suitable internal fixation system for intertrochanteric fractures. Based on the FE analysis, intramedullary fixation, such as PFNA, experiences lower stress levels and a moderate displacement in comparison to DHS and P-FCLP when used to treat intertrochanteric fractures.

Preliminary study on the stabilization of varus proximal femoral osteotomies using pediatric LCP plates in adults undergoing combined correction of proximal femoral and acetabular dysplasia.

Proximal femoral osteotomy (PFO) with periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) improves femoral head coverage in patients with proximal femoral and acetabular dysplasia. Historically, blade plates used in the PFO cause soft-tissue irritation and often lead to implant removal. Here we present a technique using a lower profile pediatric proximal femoral locking compression plate (LCP) for the PFO in a series of adults. The results from 13 hips in 11 patients ≥ 18years old (age 18-37) with > 10months of follow-up are presented. All patients had improved radiographic parameters, pain, and total Merle d'Aubigné-Postel scores postoperatively. Eleven hips (85%) had the LCP removed an average of 15.8 ± 8.6months postoperatively, often due to pain over the greater trochanter. The pediatric proximal femoral LCP is effective for PFO in combined PAO PFO procedures but has a high rate of lateral hip discomfort leading to implant removal.

Therapeutic Effects of the Proximal Femoral Nail for the Treatment of Unstable Intertrochanteric Fractures.

Objective The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical effect of the proximal femoral nail on elderly patients with unstable intertrochanteric fracture and the effect of the proximal femoral nail on serum levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and osteoprotegerin (OPG). Methods The elderly patients with unstable intertrochanteric fracture of the femur admitted to our hospital from January 2017 to January 2021 were studied. 100 patients were randomly divided into two groups: the control group (n = 50) and the observation group (n = 50). The patients in the control group were treated with a proximal femoral locking compression plate. The patients in the observation group were treated with the proximal femoral antirotation intramedullary nail. The clinical therapeutic effects of the two groups and the changes in serum MMPs and OPG levels before and after treatment were analyzed. Results Compared with the control group, the operation time, postoperative landing time, and fracture healing time of the observation group were significantly shortened, and intraoperative blood loss was significantly reduced (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the total effective rate of patients in the observation group was significantly higher (P < 0.05). After treatment, the levels of CRP, IL1β, IL2, MMP-2, MMP-6, TIMP-1, and RANKL decreased significantly in both groups (P < 0.05), while the levels of OPG increased significantly (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the changes in the above indexes were more obvious in the observation group (P < 0.05). Conclusion The proximal femoral antirotation intramedullary nail has a better therapeutic effect on elderly patients with unstable intertrochanteric fracture, and the level of MMPs and OPG may be related to the treatment process.

Comparison of Functional Outcome Like Range of Motion of Hip After Fixation of Trochanteric Fracture with Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) and Proximal Femoral Locking Compression Plate (PF-LCP)

Trochanteric region of the femur is that part which connects the neck and shaft of femur. So head, neck, trochanter facilitates the movement at the hip joint causing the limbs to swing clear of the pelvis. Intertrochanteric fractures are divided into stable and unstable varieties. To assess the Comparison of functional outcome like range of motion of hip after fixation of trochanteric fracture with dynamic hip screw (DHS) and proximal femoral locking compression plate (PF-LCP) the present prospective randomized clinical trial was conducted in the Department of Orthopedic, National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) between January 2009 to December 2010. A total of 20 patients with post traumatic trochanteric fractures and osteoporotic fractures within three weeks of incidence were included in the study. The age distribution of the patients was identical between the groups with mean age of the patients being 56.2 and 55.6 years in DHS and PF-LCP groups respectively (p=0.626). Males were predominant in both groups (each of 70%). In both groups fractures were primarily caused by RTA (60% in DHS and 50% in PF-LCP) (p=0.327) with all patients having closed type of injury. Sixty percent of the injuries in each group had right-sided involvement. (p = 0.675). All patients of either group required open surgical procedure. DHS required shorter operation time than that required by PF-LCP (72.5±5.4 min vs. 96.5±3.3 min. p&lt;0.001). Immediate postoperative outcome demonstrates that all of the patients in both groups had intact cut-out of lag-screw and implant failure did not occur. Thirty percent patients in DHS group needed blood transfusion, while only 10% patient needed the same in PF-LCP group (p = 0.291). At 4 weeks Follow up 30% of DHS group had infection as opposed to none in the PFL-CP group. Biological fixation of comminuted subtrochanteric fractures with proximal femur locking compression plate

Introduction: Subtrochanteric fractures are challengeable fractures that are associated with high incidence of complications and various intramedullary and extramedullary implants, are available for their fixation.(1) Traditional extramedullary implants are associated with higher rate of implant failure and varus collapse while the intramedullary nails are biomechanically better but technically demanding and are associated with higher re-operation rates.(2)-(3) This study was done to evaluate the outcome following biological (indirect) fixation of comminuted subtrochanteric fractures with proximal femur locking plate (PF-LCP). Methods: Thirty patients with comminuted subtrochanteric fractures were operated upon with PF-LCP (Synthes) by using an indirect reduction technique. Russell Taylor types A and B fractures were included in the study. Operating time, blood loss and any technical difficulty with the implant were recorded. Patients were followed clinically and radiologically for union at fracture site and implantrelated complications. The Harris Hip Score was used to document hip function at final follow-up. Results: The mean operating time was 90.5 min and total blood loss averaged 241.4 ml. Union was achieved in all cases with an average time of 15.87weeks. Complications included two cases of delayed union and two cases of infection.

Clinical and radiological results of using proximal femoral locking compression plate and proximal femoral nail antirotation for subtrochanteric fractures.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of treatment of subtrochanteric femoral fracture in the use of proximal femoral locking compression plate (PFLCP) and proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA). This retrospective study was performed on patients who referred to Firoozgar Hospital in 2017 with subtrochanteric fracture. During follow-up, control radiographs were obtained from patients and the Harris Hip Score questionnaire was completed. Finally, the data were entered into Spss version 22 and then analyzed. A total of 56 patients were included in the study. Patients were divided into two treatment groups of 28: including groups with locking plate and nailing treatment. The results showed that the treatment was not significantly different in patients with subtrochanteric fractures who were treated with either intramedullary nailing or plate placement. There is no difference between the two groups in any of the parameters. The two groups were similar in terms of fracture classification, and finally no significant difference was found in terms of union findings. This study showed that clinical and imaging findings are not significantly different between the two groups of patients with subtrochanteric fracture who are treated with nailing or plate placement.

Functional and Radiological Outcomes of Unstable Proximal Femur Fractures Fixed With Anatomical Proximal Locking Compression Plate.

IntroductionPeritrochanteric fractures are the most frequent fractures of the proximal femur that accounts for nearly half of all proximal femur fractures. They are a major cause of disability in the elderly. The aim is to study the functional and radiological outcome of unstable proximal femur fractures fixed with proximal femur locking compression plate (PF-LCP) and its complications. Unstable proximal femur fracture patients operated with proximal femur locking compression plate were followed up functionally by Harris Hip Score and radiologically by neck-shaft angle measure.Materials and methodsA retrospective analysis of 30 patients with unstable peritrochanteric fractures treated with PF-LCP in the first-level trauma center was conducted between 2015 and 2019. Stable peritrochanteric, pediatric and open fractures, and polytrauma were excluded. As a mid-term follow-up, functional and radiological outcomes were assessed at six weeks, three months, six months, and 12 months. Data was analyzed using a chi-square test, and results were compared with available western literature. ResultsThirty patients with unstable peritrochanteric fractures operated between 2015 and 2019, complying with our inclusion criteria, were analyzed. All patients were operated by the same surgeon and were available for a mid-term follow-up (12 months). Mean radiological union time was 12.5+/-2 weeks, with 24 patients achieving union between 10-15 weeks, three patients had union little more than 15 weeks. Two patients had non-union and required re-surgery. Functional results were assessed in the 30 patients available for follow-up using Harris Hip Score. Excellent results were seen in 17, good in seven, fair in three, and poor in three patients.ConclusionsThe choice of implant used to manage unstable peritrochanteric fractures has always been a debatable subject in our orthopedic fraternity. In our study, we used the anatomic, fixed-angle plates in peritrochanteric fractures and obtained significant functional and radiological outcomes over a midterm follow-up. We recommend PF-LCP as a good, stable alternative in the treatment of peritrochanteric femoral fractures. We consider that fracture pattern and extent in the proximal femur have a definite influence in determining the implant of choice. It provides good-to-excellent bone healing with reduced complications and better biomechanical stability.

Outcome of Pertrochanteric Femur Fractures with Proximal Femur Locking Compression Plate

Background: Fractures of the proximal femur, including fractures affecting the pertrochanteric region, have become a public health problem. Owing to aging of the population, we have to operate on even more elderly patients who sometimes present with significant co-morbidities. Although conventional implants have given good results in stable peritrochanteric fractures, proximal femur locking compression plate (PFLCP) which has been recently introduced is better suited for comminuted, unstable pertrochanteric fractures and osteoporotic bones. In PF-LCP, bone-implantconstruct so formed is mechanically stable and fixation failure due to screw loosening in osteoporotic bone can be reduced. Materials &amp;Methods: This prospective study was conducted in our institute and was approved by local ethical committee. Twenty-five consecutive patients of either sex with age more than 60 years (range, 60-84) having pertrochanteric fractures were operated upon with PFLCP. A.O classification was followed in the study and Singh’s index for osteoporosis was calculated. Operating time, blood loss and any technical difficulty with the implant were recorded. Patients were followed clinically and radiologically for union at fracture site and implant-related complications for a period of 24 months. The Harris Hip Score was used to document hip functions at final follow-up. Observations: Amongst the 25 patients, the average operation time in our study was 66.60±10.57 minutes. The average radiological union was 3.40±0.63 months (13.6 weeks). Average time for full weight bearing was 13.12±1.90 weeks. There were two cases of wound infection, one case of coxa vara and one case of a proximal screw back-out. There was no case of plate lift or screw breakage. There was no case of non-union. Conclusion: The PFLCP can be a feasible alternative to the treatment of peritrochanteric fractures. Treatment with PFLCP can provide good-to-excellent healing in osteoporotic bones having comminuted and unstable peritrochanteric fractures, with a limited occurrence of complications.

Comparison between the outcome of proximal femoral locking compression plate and dynamic hip screw in intertrochanteric femoral fractures

Background: Inter-trochanteric femoral fractures are associated with a high complication rate and mortality. This study aims to compare the proximal femoral locking compression plate (PFLCP) with dynamic hip screws (DHS) for inter-trochanteric femoral fractures in terms of mean bone union time.Methods: It was a prospective randomized study conducted at the department of orthopedics, Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan from June 2015 to December 2015. Sixty patients with a diagnosis of inter-trochanteric fractures, requiring orthopedic surgery, were included in the study. After randomization thirty patients underwent PFLCP fixation and the other thirty patients underwent DHS fixation. Patient information, demographic data, and functional level were assessed. Mean bone union time and implant complications were compared for the two treatment groups.Results: Patients who underwent PFLCP fixation demonstrated shorter bone union time (2.8±0.2 months) than those who underwent DHS fixation (3.2±0.1 months) (p&lt;0.000). PFLCP group had 90% bone union whereas DHS group had 76.66% bone union at 12 weeks (p=0.16). Conclusions: PFLCP is better than DHS for intertrochanteric femoral fractures in terms of shorter mean bone union time and fewer complications.

Evaluation of functional outcome of intertrochanteric femur fractures treated with proximal femoral locking compression plate

&lt;p class="abstract"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Background:&lt;/strong&gt; The objective was to find out the clinical and functional outcome of intertrochanteric femur fractures treated with proximal femoral locking compression plate (PFLCP).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="abstract"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Methods:&lt;/strong&gt; The study was conducted on patients who underwent fixation of intertrochanteric femur fractures with PFLCP in department of orthopedics, GMCH, Aurangabad from January 2020 to January 2021. The patients were assessed clinically and functionally using Harris hip score and radiological evaluation at three, six and nine months.&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="abstract"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Results:&lt;/strong&gt; At one year follow up, two patients had varus collapse, one had superficial infection and one had screw cut out. The mean Harris hip score at one month was 69.46 (52-76), at three months was 78.6 (58-88) and at nine months was 87.6 (64-96). The average operative time was 86.23 minutes (60-128 minutes), the average blood loss was 207.5 ml (170-250 ml) and the average time required for union was 15.16 weeks (10-24 weeks).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="abstract"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Conclusions:&lt;/strong&gt; Intertrochanteric fractures treated with PFLCP provided a strong angular stable construct and showed satisfactory outcomes.&lt;/p&gt;

Role of proximal femur locking plate in management of complex proximal femoral end fractures

Introduction: To study the role of proximal trochanteric contoured plate in management of complex proximal femur end fractures. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 cases 11 male and 19 female patients aged 19 to 90 years [Mean age 42] were included. Time duration of surgery, total amount of blood loss, hospital stay, mobilization and weight bearing, radiological assessment of union, complications and Harris Hip score were assessed at the end of 6 months. Results: Mean duration of surgery was 72.18 mins, average blood loss was 283.75ml, average hospital stay was 13.75 days. Mean time for radiological union was 16.8 wks and Harris hip score was 84.6. Abductor lurch occurred in 4 cases. Conclusion: Proximal Femoral Locking Compression Plate (PFLCP) provides stable fixation for fractures of proximal end of femur especially for lateral wall fracture because it provides stable fixation of lateral fragments and prevents lateral migration of proximal fragments. Study of comminuted unstable intertrochanteric fractures of femur managed with proximal femoral locking plate

Aim & Objective: The main aim of the present study to investigate the comminuted unstable intertrochanteric fractures of femur managed with proximal femoral locking plate.Methodology: The present study was conducted at NRI Medical College & General Hospital, Chinnakakani, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. During the period of April 2018 to March 2020. All the patients were selected into the study based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The type of surgery was internal fixation of comminuted unstable intertrochanteric fractures with proximal femoral locking plate. All patients were followed up at 6weeks, 12 weeks, 6, 9, and 12 months.Results: Out of 30 patients, 20 were males and10 were females. Both anatomical and functional outcomes were assessed in these patients. Out comes were assessed with Harris hip score. The results were good to excellent in 80.01% of the cases. The majority of injured patients were males (66.66%). The average follow up period was 10 months. 60% of patients do not have any pain during follow-up. 28 of 30 fractures united within a period of 14 months. The average time of union was 14.5 weeks. Four patients had delayed union for whom delayed weight bearing was advised. 95% of fractures united within 16 weeks. The functional outcome was more that 90%.Conclusion: Proximal femoral Locking Compression Plate provides the surgeon with flexibility to achieve angular stability or axial compression with the plate to bone apposition.

Treatment of displaced intra capsular fracture neck of femur by proximal femur locking compression plate (PFLCP): A case series evaluation

Introduction: Treatment of choice for fracture neck of femur has always been a matter of debate since time immemorial. Till date there is no definite consensus regarding best implant for fixation of unstable intracapsular fracture neck of femur. We conducted this study to assess the results of fixation in such femoral neck fractures using proximal femur locking compression plate (PFLCP). Materials & Methods: The present study includes 10 cases of acute unstable fracture neck of femur in the age group of 18 to 65 years irrespective of sex treated by CRIF using PFLCP in our unit of Orthopedics department, Assam medical college and Hospital. Results: Six cases showed unfavorable results which later got converted to hip replacement in subsequent follow up. Four cases showed clinic-radiological union. Intra-articular penetration of screws was a common complication encountered in this study. Discussion & Conclusion: We conclude from our study that though this implant provides a rigid fixation at proximal femur but definitely requires some modifications during process of fixation while dealing with fracture neck of femur. Initially the results were encouraging but with subsequent follow up we encountered a higher failure rate with conventional sequence of fixation using PFLCP.

Management of Seinsheimer type IIB and type IIIA subtrochanteric fracture with proximal femoral nail (PFN) versus proximal femoral locking compression plate (PF-LCP): Prospective comparative study

Introduction: Seinsheimer subtrochanteric fracture of femur are important to treat and associated with high rate of complications. Among all fractures of hip upto 34% present in subtrochanteric area. Objectives: Comparison of clinical outcome in Seinsheimer type IIB and type IIIA subtrochanteric fractures treated with proximal femoral nail (PFN) versus proximal femoral locking compression plate (PF-LCP). Materials and Methods: Patients presented with Seinsheimer subtrochanteric fracture at our hospital i.e, R L Jalappa Hospital, Tamaka, Kolar, Karnataka, India between May 2018 to June 2019 among which fourty patients were included as per the inclusion criteria. In which twenty patients were treated with Proximal Femoral Nail and twenty patients with Proximal Femoral Locking Compression Plate. By using Modified Harris Hip Score results were assessed at final follow up. Results: Group PFN shows at final follow up 45% excellent outcome, 45% good outcome and 10% fair outcome whereas group PF-LCP shows 60% good outcome, 20% fair outcome and 20% poor. Conclusion: For Seinsheimer subtrochanteric fractures proximal femoral nail shows better results compared to plating group with respect to functional outcome and clinical outcome. Comparing the outcomes of intertrochanteric fractures treated with DHS vs PFLCP

Background: For trochanteric fractures many implants have been used successfully like sliding hip screws, cephalomedullary nails, angular blade plates, and rarely by primary hip arthroplasty. The Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) is one of the most widely used implant for stabilization of intertrochanteric fractures. The Proximal Femoral Locking Compression Plate (PFLCP) is a relatively newly introduced implant for trochanter fractures, and there is no sufficient literature comparing DHS and PFLCP. Objective: (1) Compare the operative differences, radiological and clinical outcomes between the trochanter fractures treated by DHS with those treated by PFLCP. Methods: We studied 52 patients admitted and followed up at MGMCH. Out of which 26 patients were treated with DHS, and 26 patients with PFLCP. Results: The mean operative time and average intra-operative blood loss was more in the PFLCP group when compared with DHS group and it was found to be statistically significant (p< 0.05). DHS group had marginally better functional results than PFLCP group. There was no difference in the radiological outcome between two groups. Conclusions: In trochanteric fractures of femur, both PFLCP and DHS provide excellent results. Functional outcome is more influenced by quality of fracture reduction, rather than the type of implant used.

Outcome of proximal femoral locking compression plate (PFLP) in intertrochanteric femur fracture

Introduction: The trochanteric femur fracture are relatively common injuries. The most important goal of operative treatment is strong, stable fixation of the fracture fragment. Osteoporosis and severe communition makes fixation difficult with conventional methods leading to complications like varus malunion, implant failure and shortening. Proximal femoral nail has its own complication like screw backout, cut through etc. Hence we conducted a study to evaluate the outcome of proximal femoral locking compression plate.Materials: A prospective study of 40 cases of trochanter femur fracture from 2011 and 2017 treated with proximal femoral locking compression plate (PFLCP) was done. Patients were followed up at 1month, 3 month, 6month, 1 year and 2 year, Results were evaluated using Harris Hip Score and radiological union.Results: All the fractures united at final follow up, radiological union was noted at 16 weeks in 31 patients (76%) and remaining 9 patients showed radiological union at 20 weeks (24%). Out of 40 patients in our study 38 had normal union with only 2 patient had union in varus. No valgus deformity noted in our series. In all 40 cases there was no non union, avascular necrosis or secondary osteoarthritis noted. In our study, 19 patients had excellent results, 15 patients had good results, 4 patients had poor result according to Harris Hip score.Conclusion: The procedure offers, faster mobilization, rapid return to activities of daily living, improves the quality of life and gave a long term solution in patients with trochanteric fracture of femur.

A comparative study between proximal femur locking compression plate and dynamic hip screw fixation in management of pertrochanteric fracture

Medical College Ajmer from June 2016 to April 2018 for minimum 6 month or till the bony union. Every fracture classified according to AO classification and functional result will be assessed according to Harris hip score using unpaired t test.&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="abstract"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Results:&lt;/strong&gt; The mean operative time and average intraoperative blood loss was more in PFLCP group when compared with DHS group it was statically significant. DHS group has marginally better functional result then PFLCP group. There was no difference in the radiological outcome between two group.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Conclusions:&lt;/strong&gt; DHS is best implant for stable intertrochantric fracture but PFLCP can also be good alternative for unstable IT femur fracture.&lt;/p&gt;

Treatment of Subtrochanteric Fractures Using the Proximal Femoral Locked Plate

AbstractBackground: Subtrochanteric femur fractures are one of the most devastating injuries. Most of the fractures in the elderly results from trivial fall while in the younger age group it is mainly due to high energy trauma. Fixing subtrochanteric fractures properly is clinically challenging. Various implants both intramedullary and extramedullary are available for their fixation.Aim of Study: To evaluate the short-term outcomes of proximal femoral locking compression plate (PF-LCP) fixation for subtrochanteric femoral fractures.Material and Methods: 30 patients with subtrochanteric fractures were operated upon with open reduction and internal fixation with proximal femoral locked plate. The Harris Hip score was used to document hip function at final follow-up.Results: 28 patients were available for final follow-up after death of two patients. The mean age was 46.20 years. The mean operative time was 125.6 minutes, mean incision length was 18.33cm, mean blood loss was 360ml and mean follow-up was 9.66 month. Union was achieved in all cases in 18.25 weeks. Complications included three cases of delayed union, five cases of superficial wound infection, two cases of malunion with varus deformity and shortening of 1.5 and 2cm. Final evaluation according to Harris Hip score was excellent in 15 cases (53.6%), good in 11 (39.3%) and fair in 2 (7.1%).Conclusion: The Proximal femoral LCP is a satisfactory and feasible method of treatment in subtrochanteric femur fractures.
