Entrepreneurship educator: a vital cog in the wheel of entrepreneurship education and development in universities

Entrepreneurship educators (EEs) are critical in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in emerging economies, as they play a vital part in developing talent, which further contributes to a knowledge-based economy. The value of EEs is in promoting entrepreneurship education and highlighting the significance of developing an entrepreneurial mindset among students. Primary data was collected by conducting in-depth, semi-structured interviews involving educators affiliated with public and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the UAE. Participants were selected by adopting random sampling and snowballing techniques. Our findings not only shed light on the challenges faced by EEs but also underscore the urgent need for better support from institutions. This support is crucial for EEs to make an effective contribution to developing a professional workforce that can significantly impact students and the community. We also advocate strategies for fostering experiential learning, which include giving EEs more autonomy and support by establishing dedicated entrepreneurship centers. This work is a call to action, contributing to the further development of the literature on EE, which has received much lesser academic attention than it deserves. It also lays a foundation for further cross-country studies.

Research on university entrepreneurship education in the context of “mass entrepreneurship and innovation”

In recent years, mass entrepreneurship and innovation have been deeply integrated with economic and social development, which has played an important role in expanding employment and improving people’s livelihood. At the same time, innovation and entrepreneurship education and practical courses have gradually been incorporated into the compulsory courses system of colleges and universities, providing some help to solve the employment difficulties of college graduates. However, in the process of gradually strengthening entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities, there are still many shortcomings in entrepreneurship education atmosphere, management and evaluation system, curriculum system, teaching methods and teaching staff. Therefore, colleges and universities should create an entrepreneurial culture atmosphere, construct a scientific entrepreneurial education management and evaluation system, “create and integrate” with practice, and build a scientific team of teachers to improve the quality of entrepreneurial education. This paper first points out the importance of entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities based on the background of mass entrepreneurship and innovation, then summarizes the practical difficulties of entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities, and finally proposes ways to promote entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities, hoping to inspire colleges and universities to continue to carry out entrepreneurship education.

Learning Activity Worksheet and the Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies of Grade 10- Student in Technology and Livelihood Education

The purpose of this study is to meet the needs and develop the competencies of the students. It will also help them in preparation for their Senior High School since majority of these students would like to enroll in Technology – Vocational Livelihood Track which also focuses on these entrepreneurial competencies. The study employed the descriptive research design as it aimed to accurately and systematically describe and identify characteristics, frequencies, trends, and categories of a population, situation or phenomenon. This design was appropriate since it determined and explained the data gathered from the participants’ perception towards using Learning activity worksheet. To analyze the significant difference between mean pretest and posttest scores of the respondents before and after the utilization of Learning Activity Worksheet mean, standard deviation and t-test were used. To examine the significant relationship between student’s perception on the use of Learning Activity Worksheet and their personal entrepreneurial skills Pearson-Product Moment Correlation was used. The hypothesis is not sustained. The null hypothesis stating” there is no significant relationship in student’s perception on the use of Learning Activity Worksheet and their personal entrepreneurial skills” is accepted. Technology and Livelihood Education as one of the subjects offered to secondary students in the Philippines which taught diverse skills promote entrepreneurship education that would develop the personal entrepreneurial competency of the students. With the growing importance of globalization, students must be competitive by enhancing their personal entrepreneurial competencies.

The Role of Higher Education Institutions in Promoting Innovativeness and Passion towards Entrepreneurship among Students – A Meta-Analytic Review

With the growing importance of entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurship programs established within higher education institutions are thriving hard to achieve entrepreneurship educational outcomes in recent years. Several studies reported the role of higher education institutions in promoting entrepreneurship education and enhancing students' skill sets in various ways. To extend this knowledge, this paper aims to analyse the role of higher education institutions in promoting innovativeness and passion among students pursuing entrepreneurship education. A meta-analytic review is conducted by combining the results from empirical analysis of 24 related studies. The influence of higher education institutions on entrepreneurship educational outcomes and individual transformations is examined and their relationships are exposed. The results of the review show that various components of higher education institutions are positively related to individual transformations (rc=0.579) and entrepreneurship educational outcomes (rc=0.331). It is also found that the passion (rc = 0.31) and innovativeness (rc = 0.2771) are positively correlated with entrepreneurship educational outcome. Moreover, institutional environment has a greater impact on passion (rc = 0.531). Thus, the results indicate that higher education institutions play an important role in promoting passion and innovativeness among students.

The importance of HEI managerial practices in teachers’ competence in implementing entrepreneurship education: Evidence from Finland

Higher education institutions (HEIs) are considered a source of educated, skilled and motivated entrepreneurs. Despite the growing literature on entrepreneurship education, there is an ongoing debate on how entrepreneurship can be taught and the role of different policies in promoting entrepreneurship education. No consistent understanding of the role of HEIs or teachers' own entrepreneurial competence in entrepreneurship education has been formed. This study examines the effect of perceived managerial practices of HEIs on teachers' entrepreneurial competence and practices in entrepreneurship education. These managerial practices include, for example, top management support for promoting entrepreneurship. Data for this research was gathered from 871 higher education teachers in Finland. The results show that the managerial practices of HEIs make a difference. They directly influence teachers' affective and conative components of entrepreneurial competence. When the strategy, curricula, quality management systems, incentive pay systems, CRM systems and management of HEIs support and encourage the promotion of entrepreneurship in teachers' work, it positively affects teachers' attitudes towards entrepreneurship education. This study verifies the importance of HEI management's role in boosting entrepreneurship education and supporting the competence of teachers.

Entrepreneurship education as a driver of entrepreneurial intentions amongst university students

Entrepreneurship has received much recognition worldwide in both the academic and corporate fields, mainly due to its contribution to job creation and economic development. Entrepreneurship education was identified across the literature as one of the key drivers of entrepreneurship intention. For this purpose, Jena (2020) argued that entrepreneurship education is a good predictor of how competitive a country’s economy is. However, in South Africa, few studies have been conducted on entrepreneurship education offered in local universities. This study, therefore, sought to investigate the impact of entrepreneurship education on students’ entrepreneurship intentions. A survey was conducted with a sample of 197 undergraduate students selected from two public universities in Durban. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27. The findings of the study concluded a strong positive significant relationship between entrepreneurship education and students’ entrepreneurial intentions (r = 0.79, p < 0.01). However, regression analysis concluded that subjective norms are a good predictor of students’ entrepreneurial intentions compared to entrepreneurship education (B = 0.347; t = 3.785; p < 0.01). Based on these results, policymakers, university management, and curriculum developers should promote entrepreneurship education and focus more on its design for effective results.

Social support and risk-taking propensity as predictors of entrepreneurial intention among undergraduates in Nigeria

Purpose This paper aims to examine the determinants of entrepreneurial intention among students of a university in Nigeria, with particular emphasis on their risk-taking propensity, social support and demographic variables. Design/methodology/approach Data for the study were collected from 350 undergraduates across seven faculties in Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria, through a self-reported questionnaire. Descriptive and regression statistical analysis were used to estimate and test the relationship among entrepreneurial intention and social support, risk-taking propensity and demographic variables. Findings The results showed high entrepreneurial intention among the students. The push factors, such as perceived social support from families, risk-taking propensity and previous engagement in business, are key determinants of entrepreneurship intention among the students. The age and father’s occupation also showed a significant relationship with the level of entrepreneurial intention. Practical implications This result suggests that strengthening social support for entrepreneurship among students could enhance their desire to own a business during and after graduation. Improving entrepreneurship ecosystems in the university could further motivate those already practicing entrepreneurship while also stimulating intentions among others. For instance, provision of entrepreneurship infrastructure and incentives such as business incubators, innovation hubs, science parks and competitive business grants could enhance the risk-taking propensity among students and motivate them for venture creation. Originality/value Understanding the influence of social support and risk-taking propensity on entrepreneurial intention among undergraduates is important for policy and practice. The result further reinforces the need to promote entrepreneurship education to create a critical mass of potential entrepreneurs in the university.

A Study on Entrepreneurship Education in Western Countries: Retrospectives on Entrepreneurship Curricula and Instructions

Unemployment is now a major problem that must be resolved immediately. The unemployment rate in Indonesia is higher than in western countries. This is because the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia is still deficient. This study is conducted to synthetically analyze the empirical experiences of enhancing entrepreneurship in Western countries. This further understanding will be transformed and applied to Indonesian universities and societies. This study uses literature analysis approaches to find references to relevant theory with the hope that researchers can in-depth understand the experiences and the significant factors facilitating entrepreneurship in Western countries. At the end of the study, the authors conclude that the success of entrepreneurship in western countries is due to central government support for entrepreneurship. Therefore, the success of entrepreneurship in western countries that can be applied in Indonesia, such as (1) the Indonesian government must endeavor to oblige all universities in Indonesia to provide entrepreneurship classes, (2) promote entrepreneurship education and make entrepreneurship a priority, (3) implementing entrepreneurship in educational curricula at all levels, starting with preschool. , (4) providing educational scholarship facilities for economic and business actors to become entrepreneurs, (5) providing (people's business credit) with low interest for business.

Innovative Entrepreneurship Education for Young People in Vietnam to Meet Current International Integration Requirements

Currently, the youth entrepreneurship movement in Vietnam is developing strongly and widely, the initial results of the movement have made an important contribution to the overall success of the country's renewal process. Taking place in the context of our country's increasing international integration with both opportunities and challenges intertwined, the youth entrepreneurship movement is also being profoundly affected and influenced, and many new problems arise from very difficult and complicated birth. Therefore, to help the movement develop quickly and sustainably and meet the requirements of the current international integration process, it is necessary to continue to further promote entrepreneurship education for Vietnamese youth promptly and comprehensively towards modernity and innovation.

An Investigation of the Impact on Promoting Entrepreneurship Education for the Development of Entrepreneurial Skills

In this study, the researcher has discussed the concept of entrepreneurship education and its impact on the entrepreneurial development skills. The study has shown the problems of failure of start-ups globally due to lack of entrepreneurial education and skills. The controlling factors of promoting entrepreneurship education for entrepreneurial skills has shown here. The researcher has surveyed and also interviewed the first year of higher education students. In this study, it has shown that the survey and interview process both are important to understanding the importance of promoting entrepreneurship education for the development of entrepreneurial skills. The Role of Libraries in Promoting Entrepreneurship Education in Nigerian Universities

With rapid development in technology and entrepreneurship, every university is expected among other things to train persons to become specialists imbued with the spirit of creativity and ability for practical work, become good citizens and promote the culture of national unity and progress. Students and staff in this respect, need to have information on the trends of their progression. Information is vital to the overall academic development of university students. It is central to the development of a nation or a people. Therefore, this paper accesses the Role of Libraries in Promoting Entrepreneurship Education in Nigerian Universities. It also concludes that, information has always played a central role in human life and it is central and paramount for effective and fast development of a nation. Indeed, modern economics are driven by entrepreneurship. Without entrepreneurship ability to organize a country natural endowment, such as a country can hardly achieve her effective potential output/productivity. The paper recommends among other things. This paper recommended among other things that university library management and their universities should give priority attention to entrepreneurship education. Adequate resources and services should be provided to promote teaching, learning and research. Integration of this course into the school curriculum is necessary.

Research on the covid-19 pandemic, conducted to date, has clearly shown its negative impact on entrepreneurs. However, there are few relevant studies on the resilience of these entrepreneurs. Even economic stimulus packages developed by governments ignore collective intelligence, which is seen as an appropriate posture and path that can lead to the resilience of entrepreneurs in unpredictable situations. Thanks to the theoretical anchoring of collaborative management, we have developed and tested a conceptual model through the approach of deconstructing collective intelligence into (i) the sharing of capacities (ii) mutual aid (iii) collective competence and (iv) dynamic capacity. The data production was carried out through 15 semi-structured interviews and 282 surveys of Cameroonian and Chadian entrepreneurs. The results showed that mutual support (β = 0.32) and ability to share (β = 0.29) are indirectly the best predictors of economic and strategic entrepreneurial resilience. Because they participate effectively in building the collective competence of entrepreneurs in a context of crisis. This collective competence positively generates the level of variation in economic resilience (β = 0.38) and that of strategic resilience (β = 0.36). These results are the manifestation that covid-19 is boosting social dialogue between entrepreneurs. On the other hand, dynamic capacity appears less effective for the entrepreneurial economic resilience (β = 0.04) and strategic entrepreneurial resilience (β = 0.02) of the entrepreneurs studied due to the measures to combat covid-19. These findings contrast with previous research focused on entrepreneurial resilience through collective intelligence. They lead us to stress the importance of continuing research on the subject and to draw comparisons between entrepreneurs in crisis situations and those working in a stable ecosystem. The article is useful for researchers who find proven evidence that is more relevant. Then entrepreneurs will find new factors to make their entrepreneurial project viable. Finally, governments and their partners are urged to further promote entrepreneurship education based on dynamic capacity at the expense of confrontation and selfishness. Our article is part of the theory of collaborative management and organizational theory and reveals the existence of a relational contingency in the different stages of the entrepreneurial resilience process.

Does College Education Promote Entrepreneurship Education in China?

The Higher Education Expansion (HEE) policy implemented by the Chinese government in 1999 provides an exceptional opportunity to study the impact of university and college education (graduates) on entrepreneurship in China using an econometric approach. The study applied secondary data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) to examine the role of entrepreneurship education on Chinese entrepreneurship intentions from 2005 to 2019. The study used fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) and ordinary least squares (OLS) to estimate the long-run association between the variables. The study further accounts for endogeneity using two-stage least squares (2SLS). The findings show that graduates (undergraduates, master’s, and postgraduates) positively influence entrepreneurship education. This means that people who have passed through the higher education system are likely to have taken a program or programs in entrepreneurship that motivate them to create new business. The acquisition of knowledge and skills about entrepreneurship seems to rise with graduates. Moreover, entrepreneurship education increases entrepreneurship intentions in China. However, human capital decreases entrepreneurship intentions. The government should leverage further the policy benefits and promote the passion of entrepreneurship education within colleges and universities.

Entrepreneurial Competencies: An Empirical Study on Management Students of Himachal Pradesh

Purpose/Objective: Successful business ventures fuel growth in economies, particularly in developing countries like India. Business schools around the world are trying to promote entrepreneurship education, as creation of more and more entrepreneurs can help in the overall development of a country’s economy. Due to increased competition in the business environment, it has become very important that business students possess high competencies for taking business and strategic decisions. Keeping in view the demand for entrepreneurial competencies in the present business context and increasing interest of the researchers in the field of entrepreneurship, this research paper is aimed to examine the entrepreneurial competencies among management students in the Central University of Himachal Pradesh. This study also explores the relationship of entrepreneurial competencies with demographics of students under study like gender, family background, social background, etc. Design/methodology: Descriptive research design is used in the present study. It is based on primary survey using questionnaire for collection of data from management students of Central University of Himachal Pradesh. In order to examine the entrepreneurial competencies, the indicators advocated by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) are used. Findings/Conclusion: The present study will give results regarding the entrepreneurial competencies which are present among the Management Students of Himachal Pradesh. It will also attempt to find the relationship of such competencies with their different demographic variables. Originality/contribution/value: This kind of study is original and will be a contribution in the existing literature as no such study has been conducted in Himachal Pradesh focusing on entrepreneurial competencies among management students. This study will also be helpful to the inspired business students to further develop their entrepreneurial competencies. Present study will also provide an insight to the policy makers and educators to promote entrepreneurship by enhancing the entrepreneurial competencies among students.

Analysis on the Way of Cultivating Talents of Vocational Education to Develop Entrepreneurial Economy

The development of entrepreneurial economy has brought new vitality to China as well as raised higher requirements for talents training. In order to meet the needs of the entrepreneurial economy for high-level talents, vocational education should promote entrepreneurship education, develop effective ways for school-enterprise cooperation, expand communication channels with other educational types, and improve teaching and evaluation methods, so as to meet the challenges brought by the transformation and upgrading of industrial economy.

Entrepreneurial Development as a Panacea to Graduate Unemployment in Nigeria

This study empirically examines the concept of Entrepreneurial Development as a panacea to graduate unemployment in Nigeria, adopting the multi-stage sampling technique; primary data were obtained from 360 respondents comprising lecturers and students of Niger Delta University Amassoma, Bayelsa State Nigeria, by means of structured questionnaires. Data reliability, testing and analysis were conducted using Cronbach’s Alpha and Chi-square statistical tools respectively, The study revealed a positive and significant relationship between the development of adequate entrepreneurship curricula in Nigeria tertiary institutions and the production of innovative entrepreneurs, equally, the study suggests that the teaching of entrepreneurship courses in tertiary institutions is positively correlated with the development of self-sufficient graduates who possess employability attributes which invariably culminates in overall economic development. Thus, it is recommended that government in conjunction with the management of tertiary institutions should fashion out sustainable policies and programmes to inculcate and promote entrepreneurship education into the consciousness of the teeming undergraduates.
