Contribution of Non Governmental Organisations Projects Intervention on Social Economic Growth in Rural Areas. A Case of World Vision Rwanda 2019-2022 Kivuruga Sector, Gakenke Disrtict, Northern Rwanda.

This research is basically done to assess contribution of Non-Governmental Organizations projects intervention on socio economic growth of in rural areas a case study of World Vision Rwanda project in Kivuruga sector. This study had the following specific objectives: to find out the contribution of NGOs on socio economic growth in Kivuruga sector, to elaborate socio economic impacts of NGOs in rural areas especially in Kivuruga sector, to identify the relationship between activities of WVR and socioeconomic growth of its beneficiaries in Kivuruga sector and to give suggestions and recommendation on NGOs activities in rural areas. Due to financial means, time constraints and the need of precision of results, it was impossible to study all population. Target population of this study was 127 beneficiaries of World Vision Rwanda project in Kivuruga sector. A sample of 56 respondents was selected and cluster sampling was used for selecting groups, or clusters, of participants from the population. The clusters were chosen based on distribution of World Vision Rwanda project’s respondents in cells. The study also employed purposive sampling as the sampling technique. Questionnaire, interview and a documentation research were used as tools of data collection. The statistical analysis of the collected data was conducted using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). This study assessed the Contribution of WVR in socio-economic growth where the findings indicated that great extent and very great extent make 73.2%. Therefore, the WVR played a big role in economic growth of Rwanda especially in Kivuruga Sector. As conclusion, it has been revealed that the capacity of the beneficiaries to cover basic expenditure and need (such as food, clothing, transport, education and housing, etc.) has been improved over the program/project period. Likewise, the programs executed by WORLD VISION Rwanda have enabled beneficiaries to engage in small businesses, different income generating activities, developing markets through a systems approach and market linkage, promote and increase the saving practice. As a result, beneficiaries of the programs have their source of income and they become self-reliance and empowered. The recommendations to future action planners are to improve livelihood, socio-economic conditions and then to reduce poverty the participation of women.

Government and Non-Governmental Organisation Led Agricultural Development Projects and the Accumulation of Social and Economic Capitals in Mezam, Cameroon

Government (GO) and Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) undertake agricultural development projects especially in Sub-Saharan Africa where agriculture-dependent livelihoods are predominant. Agricultural development has been accompanied by a theoretical debate vis-à-vis who is best placed to steer the process. Unfortunately, empirical evidence to refute or ramify the theoretical contestations are extremely limited. This article contributes to the literature by comparatively analyzing the effects of GO) and NGO–led agricultural development projects on social and economic capitals in Cameroon. Mixed methods were applied on stakeholders of four selected GO-led and four NGO-led development projects in Mezam division in the North West region of Cameroon, chosen due to its long history of having both GO and NGO-led agricultural development projects. A structured questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data from randomly selected 180 beneficiaries, including 90 from GO and 90 from NGO projects, and 120 project staff that is 15 (2 top, 5 middle and 8 lower management) per retained organization. Recall was applied to construct before-after comparisons with interviewees, in the absence of baseline information. In-depth interviews and observations were done with selected project staff and beneficiaries, respectively. Quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS version 25.0, while qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis. Results show significant increase in the growth of social and economic benefits for respondents from both GO and NGO-led projects (p < 0.05), though higher for NGO-led projects. The study concludes that agricultural development by both organizational types can enhance social and economic development. Further studies are needed to ramify these results. Comparative analyses between project staff and beneficiaries can highlight any differences in them, in terms of perceptive and actual impacts of GO and NGO-led agricultural projects on social and economic capitals. Comprehensive assessments based on all livelihood capitals are recommended to ground these contentions.

The Issues and Ethical Dilemmas of College Volunteers in Short-term Voluntary Teaching Projects

In recent years, with the continuous pursuit of self-worth by the public, more and more voluntary projects of non-governmental organizations and non-profit organizations have emerged and developed. While these voluntary projects bring some positive effects, there are also some negative problems. This article will take short-term volunteer teaching of college students as an example to analyze the problems and moral dilemmas of volunteers in short-term volunteer projects. Through research, it can be found that volunteers in short-term volunteer teaching projects lack professionalism and vocational training, a lack of sustainable teaching mechanisms, and the moral dilemma faced by volunteers themselves. The research content of this paper will enhance the understanding of short-term voluntary teaching, and lead to practical implications for developing volunteer teaching programs in China. Meanwhile, it will provide theoretical support for the subsequent design and management of voluntary projects of Chinese non-profit organizations and also put forward feasible suggestions for the selection and training of volunteers, as well as the publicity and supervision of voluntary projects.

Beneficiaries Empowerment and Sustainability of Non-Governmental Organization Projects in Rwanda: A Case of Send a Cow Rwanda Jyambere Project

This research analyzed how beneficiary empowerment affects the sustainability of NGO projects in Rwanda. The key characteristics that significantly help communities to empower themselves and promote sustainable development were discussed in detail and finally validated. More specifically, the study evaluated the impact of capacity building, material resources and partnerships on the sustainability of the Send a Cow Jyambere project in Rwanda. The study used descriptive research design with both quantitative and qualitative methods. The population of this study consisted of 5 technical project staff, 120 peer farmers and para-veterinaries and 1520 direct project beneficiaries. Thus, the total population was1645 individuals.  Stratified random sampling was used to select 322 respondents as sample size. The survey used questionnaires and interviews to collect data. Descriptive and inferential analyses such as frequencies, percentages, correlations and regressions were used to present the quantitative data in tabular and graphical form using SPSS version 23. This study targeted to be of utmost importance to the researcher, future researchers, Mount Kenya University, the Jyambere project and the Rwandan society at large. The Pearson correlation analysis between capacity building (r=0.772, p=0.000), material resource (r=0.613, p=0.000) and partnership (r=0.631, p=0.000) against project sustainability showed that capacity building was found to have a positive and statistically significant correlation. The analysis of regression coefficients showed that capacity building (β1=0.511, p=0.000) material resource (β2=0.374 p=0.000) and partnership (β1=0.201, p=0.000) all have positive and statistically significant effect on project sustainability since the p-values are less than 5%. This study has empirically demonstrated that beneficiaries’ empowerment plays a significant role in ensuring that projects are sustainable. Therefore, the researcher recommends that project managers should embrace best practices that enhance beneficiaries’ empowerment such as incorporating capacity building, provide necessary material resources that equip beneficiaries ready to work by themselves as well as partnership with other parties. The government and the regulatory bodies should be keen to promote such projects which are community-based. Women’s Empowerment as an Outcome of NGO Projects: Is the Current Approach Sustainable?

The area of women’s empowerment has attracted increasing attention among a wide range of interest groups, from authors to researchers to feminist scholars and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This paper aims to identify the diverse understandings of women’s empowerment in the literature and to discuss empirical evidence from NGO projects in the field. A systematic literature review is employed that includes an analysis of relevant high-quality articles and research papers published in the Scopus database, as well as those produced by United Nations (UN) bodies and well-published authors. The findings highlighted four common understandings of women’s empowerment including granting women a voice, challenging existing power structures, the radical transformation of lives and livelihoods, and gender mainstreaming. The findings of these empirical studies on the role of NGOs in this field revealed understandings limited to granting women a voice and gender mainstreaming, thus reflecting the fact that limited knowledge of women’s empowerment hampers the ability of NGOs to serve women’s advancement and sustainable development. Furthermore, and given that these approaches and understandings still fall short of achieving social inclusion for women, it is recommended that these NGOs discharge their efforts toward initiating systemic change to actually sustain female empowerment in the communities in which they are active.

Implementation Strategies and Performance of Non-Governmental Organization Projects in Rwanda: A Case of Faith Victory Association Projects, Kayonza District

The general objective of this study is to assess the effect of implementation strategies on performance of NGO projects with specific reference to Gikuriro project implemented by Faith Victory Association in Kayonza. The specific objectives were to examine the community empowerment, capacity building and community participation on performance of NGO projects. The study played a significant role to various people including researcher, the management of the project itself, government and academic researchers. When conducting this study, a descriptive research design with two mixed methods such quantitative and qualitative approach was used. The target population was project beneficiaries who were given questionnaires and the project administrators as well as staff who were interviewed. In total the total target population was 13250 people, from whom a sample of 400 was selected using Sloven’s formula. The study used a stratified random sampling technique and data were collected using questionnaires and interviews .The analysis of data was done using SPSS version 22.0 and Microsoft Excel. Both inferential (correlation and regression analysis)and descriptive statistics(mean and standard deviation) were used. The findings pertaining research objectives showed that the community empowerment, capacity building and community participation affect performance of NGO projects. On community empowerment 95% of the respondents Community training, Farmer learning schools, Village NS as capacity building strategies affected performance of NGO projects. The study findings further showed that 89%) of respondents community empowerment through saving groups affected performance of NGO projects. The study findings showed the community participation in utilities or consumable types agriculture was e 61% community participation animal type of assets wwas24% community participation in agricultural tools represent 47% while community participation in house and land 54.8%. When assessing the relationship between implementation strategies and performance of NGO projects with specific reference to Gikuriro project implemented by Faith Victory Association in Kayonza, the study findings showed that there is a significant relationship between implementation strategies and performance of NGO projects presented a positive correlation with p-value (r = 0.092, p = 0.067), (r = -0.008, p = 0.000), (r = 0.016, p = 0.000), (r = 0.042, p = 0.000), (r = 0.006. p = 0.000) and (r = -0.036, p = 0.000). The study concludes that community empowerment, capacity building and community participation on performance of NGO projects are important strategies for ensuring project sustainability. The study, recommended that NGO funded projects in Kayonza District should be have clear guiding implementation strategies and procedure, community participation strategy in place and integrating monitoring in their implementation strategies at all stages.

Strategic Implementation within Non-governmental Organizations’ Projects for Social Transformation in Dungu Sub-County, Democratic Republic of Congo

Strategic implementation within non-governmental organization projects is some of the main activities implemented in Dungu Sub-County to assist the displaced victims of the Lord's Resistance Army's civil wars. However, the implementation of these projects has ignored the need to advance good education, human dignity, food security, health-care and income generation. This study sought to: assess the influence of NGO project leadership; and NGO project resources on social transformation in Dungu Sub-County, Democratic Republic of Congo. This research was anchored on transformational leadership theory and Barney's resource-based view theory. The study used a descriptive research design. The target population comprised 1600 employees working in the registered NGOs, key informants from community leaders, church leaders, and representatives of the displaced victims. The Nassiuma scientific formula was used to get the sample size of 197 respondents. The study used stratified, simple random sampling and purposive sampling. Data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics, using SPSS version 25. The study found that NGO employees had a clear vision to implement strategies for better outcomes to a low extent , and there was moderation in the NGOs' recruitment and training of employees. The study concluded that there was a positive correlation between strategy implementation of NGOs projects on social transformation. Therefore, the study recommends that the NGOs' leaders have a clear vision of the projects and should recruit and train enough employees to participate in the projects' strategic implementation for social transformation.

Influence of Project Management Practices on The Implementation of Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations’ Projects: A Case of World-Wide Fund for Nature- Kenya, Kwale County

Purpose: Non-Governmental Organizations are faced with project implementation challenges specifically 70% of environmental projects fail to meet their estimated timeline, budget and objectives. These factors have led researchers to look for possible solutions to pilot smooth execution of projects. The study’s’ drive was to institute the effect of Project Management Practices on Implementation of environmental Non-Governmental Organizations’ projects: A Case of World-Wide Fund for Nature- Kenya-Kenya, Kwale County. The study measured Stakeholders’ Engagement, Project Design, Project Team competence and Monitoring and Evaluation to establish their influence the execution of environmental projects of Non-Governmental Organizations.
 Methodology: Descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The target population was 3,486 drawn and a sample of 90 respondents was arrived using purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and analyzed using Statistical Package to develop descriptive statistics and draw inferences.
 Results: The findings clearly showed that all the factors were present in environmental NGOs projects since they had high average means of 4.45, 4.22, 4.37 and 4.5 for the independent variable while the dependent variable Y had a mean of 4.35. Hypothesis was tested after each alternative as per the objective of the researcher using the Chi-Square test and it was determined that all the factors have significant influence on successful implementation of environmental donor-funded projects since they had a significance P value of less than 0.05. The findings further showed that all the four factors; Stakeholders’ Engagement, Project Design, Project Team competence and Monitoring and Evaluation have a positive influence on implementation of environmental Non-Governmental Organizations’ projects. The study established that Stakeholders’ Engagement, had the highest influence on successful implementation of environmental Non-Governmental Organizations’ projects with a significant positive change of 77% if a unit of it is increased, followed by Project Team competence with 72%, Monitoring and Evaluation had an influence of 63% and lastly Project Planning process, had a 47% influence on sustainable implementation of environmental Non-Governmental Organizations’ projects
 Unique contribution to theory, policy and practice: The study recommended improved stakeholder involvement and project team competence and improving the monitoring and evaluation function for better performance of environmental Non-Governmental Organizations’ projects.

A Senegalese eHealth NGO hires gay men to send HIV/AIDS prevention messages through Facebook and online dating websites in order to contain HIV and, invokingsutura, contain queer communication and bodies. This NGO projects a heteronormative metapragmatic model of health communication, casting information as instrument of containment, and a unitary, de-eroticized digital self as informational messenger. In what I call queer biocommunicability, eHealth activists create erotically seductive digital personae incongruous with offline characteristics. Construed as communicative-bodily excess, digital seductions actually facilitate information exchange. NGOs instrumentalize queer biocommunicability to bolster a care framework that marginalizes queer subjects. This paper traces historical underpinnings and ethical-political implications of heteronormative biocommunicability’s dependence on queer transgression.

Unstable solutions: making development seem to work for everyone in Uttarakhand, India

ABSTRACTPolicy scholarship has largely studied implementation as performed by government bureaucracies in advanced democracies where a specific configuration of power dominates, thus shaping frontline workers’ policy improvisations. By exploring how development policy is implemented at an Indian-run non-governmental organization (NGO), this article reveals how differently improvisation may unfold when the distribution of power changes. In this NGO, the targets of development policy – village residents participating in NGO projects – were not dependent on fieldworkers (the implementation agents) for access to valued resources. As neighbors, relatives, and friends, fieldworkers and project participants were mutually dependent on one another for daily survival. This gave project participants more influence over implementation than the clients of government bureaucracies. However, power was more imbalanced in the relationship between NGO fieldworkers and the organization’s leaders, who designed policy. The status differences between the wealthy, educated urban Indians in charge of the NGO and the poorer, rural residents employed as fieldworkers made open communication between these groups difficult. This pushed fieldworkers to conceal the improvisations they made to development policy so that it fit better with villagers’ goals. Understanding the broader context within which organizations operate is crucial to explaining how improvisation in policy implementation unfolds.

The cultural syndrome "individualism-collectivism" and its psychological peculiarities including well-being of regional communities' representatives in Ukraine

The study of the psychological components of the cultural stratum of Ukrainian mentality in general and of its regional peculiarities is quite important today, taking into account the peculiarities of social processes in the Ukrainian state and the transformation of the modern Ukrainians' consciousness. Particular attention is drawn to the cultural syndromes due to the great applicational value of a detailed study of their features among the representatives of the country's regional communities. It allows to distinguish the key features for depicting the psychological portraits of personalities of the regional communities' representatives.
 The results of the study help to systematize knowledge in the quantitative measurements of the cultural syndrome "individualism-collectivism" and to fill the gaps in ethnometric researches in Ukraine. It broadens the understanding of the structure and temporal dynamics of this cultural syndrome, its dependence on such factors as the age, the gender and the religiosity of personality. A practical application of the obtained results may include their use in psychological and pedagogical work, in business and cultural contacts, in interethnic communication, etc.
 In general, the results of the study are the basis for expanding the study of the psychological characteristics of the political consciousness of Ukrainians, which we intend to carry out in the future. This study will help to create a strategy for changing the worldview and behavioral patterns of Ukrainian society in order to allow effective counteraction to attempts of manipulations with human rights and personal freedom of people on the basis of their weakness (ignorance of modern features of important aspects of social existence and limited worldview).
 Also, the results can be used to help to create, to disseminate and to develop effectively regional projects of non-governmental organizations, international social, psychological and political projects, local self-government bodies, local and regional communities, regional initiatives, etc.

DEVELOPMENT NGOS: BASIC FACTS

ABSTRACTThis paper systematically reviews the empirical literature on development non‐governmental organizations (NGOs), drawing both on quantitative and qualitative analyses, and constructs a set of basic facts about these organizations. These facts concern the size of the development NGO sector and its evolution, the funding of NGOs, the allocation of NGO aid and projects across beneficiary countries, the relationship of NGOs with beneficiaries, and the phenomenon of globalization of development NGOs.

Analysis of Top Management Support and Individual Factors Influence on Accounting Information System and its Impact on the Accounting Information Quality for Projects

The development of information technology in accounting has assisted on accountability and transparency of projects funds through the use of accounting information system for projects in producing quality reports. Top management support and individual factor are considered to have a high impact on accounting information system implementation. The study examined the effect of top management support and individual factors on the implementation of accounting information system and its impact on accounting information quality for projects in Tanzania. The study was carried out on nongovernmental organizations operated in Tanzania in different sectors. A questionnaire used to collect information from users of accounting information and accounting information system in different nongovernmental organizations projects in Tanzania. The results indicate that top management support and individual factors significantly influence accounting information system. Furthermore, it was found that the accounting information quality is influenced considerably by accounting information system.

Team effectiveness in Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) projects

The incorporation of team context into research and practice regarding team effectiveness in NGOs projects is a constant challenge. The research seeks to address the gap and identify the critical determinants of team effectiveness in projects undertaken by non-governmental organizations. Using a systematic process, the study involved both literature and focus group discussions to generate the required items. A total of 157 respondents (Team Members and Team Leaders) were part of the study that filled the questionnaires. Using exploratory factor analysis followed by confirmatory factor analysis, both convergent and discriminant validity was established. The present study found that team effectiveness in NGO social projects has a total of seven dimensions namely: Inter team coordination, community social linkage, team performance, knowledge, skills, and attitudes, leadership communication and engagement, decision making and information sharing, and team formation. There is a significant lack of research on team effectiveness in NGO projects. Where considerably large proportion of research on team effectiveness has focused on the corporate sector, the non-governmental teams have been neglected. This study clearly highlights the determinants that make up team effectiveness in NGOs. The determinants identified will help to specifically look at the effectiveness of teams in NGO projects. The study would help NGOs identify the dimensions in which they may be performing in a weaker manner and direct their energies in improving the factors.

EL COMPROMISO DE LOS JÓVENES CON BAJOS INGRESOS CON LA COMUNICACIÓN PARA EL CAMBIO SOCIAL: UN ENFOQUE ETNOGRÁFICO

This article presents an ethnographic approach to how low-income Brazilians of impoverished urban areas have engaged in community journalism and media activism. Exploring empirical materials collected during a seven-year research process (2009-2016), the article has two main objectives. One is to analyze how low-income youth reflect on their own processes of engagement in communication for social change (CFSC). Another objective is to demonstrate how ethnography can provide in-depth analyses of trajectories and initiatives in CFSC. The article primarily focuses on retrospective accounts of young adults who had participated in media-educational projects by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and subsequently became active agents of change in, through and about media. The analysis of these accounts indicates how the participation in NGO projects characterize actions for self-development. It also demonstrates how interactions among participants – not necessarily anticipated by NGOs – are crucial for low-income youth to engage in activist media and journalism in peripheral Rio de Janeiro. The article ends with a reflection about how ethnography is a useful method to add in-depth qualitative layers to the evaluation of CFSC initiatives.

The project implementation profile: A tool for enhancing management of NGO projects

This article argues for the use of the Project Implementation Profile (PIP) tool in managing non-governmental organization (NGO) projects. It applies the PIP to a project in the non-profit NGO sector and assesses the extent to which it provides project success assurance. The findings suggest that PIP can be used in this sector. Further work to refine the tool and integrate it with the Logical Framework is suggested.
