Mobilizing strategic inflection points for sustainment of an effective intervention in an integrated learning health system: an interpretive description

BackgroundInnovative models of care have the potential to improve the sustainability of health systems by improving patient and provider experiences and population outcomes while simultaneously reducing costs. Yet, it is challenging to recognize the distinctive points during research and quality improvement processes that contribute to sustainment of effective interventions. The business concept of an inflection point—the position on the curve of a trajectory where the progress in implementation of an intervention is accelerated or decelerated—may be useful to understand implementation and improve sustainability and ultimately sustainment of effective interventions. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively identify and describe strategic inflection points that accelerated the sustainability process and led to the sustainment of Alberta Family Integrated Care.MethodsThis qualitative study was conducted in Alberta, Canada and employed an interpretive description design. Purposively sampled documents (proposals, project management plans, reports to funders and sponsors, meeting minutes, and fidelity audit and feedback checklists) from the Alberta Family Integrated Care cluster randomized controlled trial and quality improvement project constituted data for this study.ResultsTo accelerate sustainability in the research context, we identified (1) alignment with strategic priorities, (2) iterative, user-centered co-design, and (3) contextualization of implementation as strategic inflection points. To accelerate sustainability in the health system context, we identified (1) the learning health system, (2) enduring partnerships, (3) responsivity to societal and system change, (4) embedded governance, and (5) intentional integration into the health system as strategic inflection points. Capitalizing on these strategic inflection points led to sustainment of Alberta Family Integrated Care in the provincial health system.ConclusionsWe identified key inflection points in the research and health system contexts that led to sustainment of Alberta Family Integrated Care. By anticipating, recognizing, and leveraging inflection points in the sustainability process, researchers may be able to accelerate implementation and achieve sustainment of multi-component interventions in complex systems.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov: NCT02879799. Public participation in the conservation and management of canal cultural heritage worldwide: a case study of the Rideau Canal and Erie Canal

To shed light on the conservation and management of canal cultural heritage worldwide, this paper examines the relevant experience and implications acquired from the US Erie Canal and Canadian Rideau Canal from the perspective of public participation in terms of four dimensions: subject, concept, content, and horizon. The study findings are fourfold: first, the factors such as residents of the Heritage Corridor, non-governmental organizations, non-profit enterprises, private forces, tourists, and individual volunteers constitute the subject of public participation. Second, both sides concur that extensive public involvement is the driving force behind the success of cultural heritage conservation and management. This wide involvement is conducive to promoting education and shaping national identity. Third, for both sides, public participation is integral to the Heritage Corridor project management plan, spanning the entire process of drafting, revising, implementing, and evaluating. Finally, both sides have been leveraging modern information technology and social media, such as web home pages, databases, virtual discussions, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, to promote public participation, and achieving double the results with half the effort. The implications of the findings lie in four aspects: first, the canal community committees assume leadership responsibilities with relevant laws and regulations in place as legal backup; second, both the US and Canadian sides take effective measures to organize, recognize, and appreciate participants; third, they demonstrate the spirit of democratic participation and exemplary deliberation throughout the cultural heritage canal conservation and management process; and finally, both sides maximize the use of modern information technologies for efficient conservation and management of their respective Canal Cultural Heritage Corridors.

Determination of Recreatıon Areas in Acarlar Longoz

The protection of nature and the environment, the preservation of the diversity of ecosystems without jeopardizing their integrity, and their sustainable development are important for sustainability. The Acarlar Floodplain is an extraordinary tourism and recreation area in terms of its ecological and landscape features. In the Acarlar Floodplain, which has recently become an important tourist destination, it is important to determine the attractions for daily recreation without neglecting the conservation value. The aim of this study is to identify suitable areas for hiking and birdwatching in the region using the weighted overlay method. The results show that most of the region is restricted areas for targeted activities, especially birdwatching, due to the different conservation status of Acar Longoz. The 1st degree suitable areas for hiking activities cover 226 ha and 4169 ha fall under the 2nd degree suitable category. The 1st degree suitable areas for birdwatching cover 16 ha, while the 2nd degree suitable areas cover 487 ha. The results provide essential inputs and an exemplary scientific methodology for the development of the current ecotourism project and wetland management plans.

The Impact of Climate Change on Construction Activity Performance

There are specific construction operations that require weather forecast data to make short-term decisions regarding construction; however, most resource-related decision making and all project management plans must be carried out to anticipate weather conditions beyond the capabilities of the currently available forecasting technologies. In this study, a series of single- and multi-risk analyses were performed with ~9 km grid resolution over Türkiye using combinations of weather and climate variables and their threshold values which have an impact on the execution and performance of construction activities. These analyses will improve the predictability of potential delays, enable the project to be scheduled on a future-proof basis by considering the calculated normal and periodic predictions on the grid scale, and serve as a dispute resolution tool for related claims. A comprehensive case study showcasing the methodology and illustrating its application shows that the project duration is expected to be extended because of the impact of climate on both historical and future periods. While the original project duration was 207 days, when climate effects were considered, the optimum mean and median values increased to 255 and 238 days, respectively, for the historical period. The optimum duration mean and median change to 239 days by the end of the century, according to the SSP5-8.5 scenario, if the construction schedules consider climate change. The change in duration was mainly due to rising temperatures, which increased winter workability and reduced summer workability. However, if the historical practices are carried over to future schedules, the mean and median increase to 258 days and 244 days, respectively, which may cause unavoidable direct, indirect, or overhead costs.

Lessons Learned from a Multi-National Project on Developing a Platform for the Silver Economy

The population is ageing rapidly worldwide, which is particularly apparent in Europe. Therefore, there is a shrinking working-age population per retiree, which has profound implications for society. In response to this challenge, the EU-funded project OSIRIS is developing a collaborative digital platform that allows the creation of new innovative solutions to tackle the ageing population’s challenges and help them live independent and active life. Effective project management is crucial for the success of such a project. In this paper, we describe the project management structure of the OSIRIS project, analyze the project management plan, identify gaps and provide recommendations to improve the project management practices. The paper highlights the lessons learned from the perspective of project management methodologies, enterprise architecture management and from creating generalized customer journeys for such a platform. Our findings suggest that effective project management practices, including proper planning, risk management, communication and stakeholder engagement, are imperative for the projects’ success. Overall, by sharing our experience and insights, this paper aims to provide valuable guidance for future research and development projects in the silver economy and technology field.

Factors Influencing the Performance of Department of Public Works and Highways Field Engineers: Input for Supervisory Project Management Plan

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) plays a critical role in shaping infrastructure projects in the Philippines, with field engineers at the forefront of any project execution. This study was conducted to determine the factors influencing the performance of field engineers at the DPWH, considering the individual, team, and organizational factors. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, the study was conducted at DPWH Eastern Samar District Engineering Office, with 30 field engineers who served as the respondents. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data, while Pearson’s correlation was used to test the hypothesis. The key findings revealed that factors such as technical skills (r=0.306), experience (r=0.162), and motivation (r=0.332) have nothing to do with performance, with p-values higher than 0.05. On a team level- leadership and management (r=0.407) are critical to success. Sufficient resource allocation (r=0.356) drives better performance at the organizational level. The research stressed the importance of providing continuous professional development to field engineers to enhance their technical know-how and leadership capabilities. Likewise, supportive leadership that fosters collaboration and communication among teams is vital to achieving project goals. On an organizational scale, efficient resource management and well-defined policies are necessary for field engineers to perform effectively and efficiently. It is suggested that to improve project outcomes, the DPWH should implement targeted training programs, foster leadership that encourages teamwork, and ensure adequate resource distribution. Also, refining organizational policies can help create a more structured and supportive environment for field engineers to improve individual and team performance and ensure efficient use of resources, ultimately enhancing infrastructure development in the Philippines.

Therefore, this study aims to provide implications by identifying problems that occur step by step when promoting reconstruction projects, ways to improve the satisfaction of members, and deriving important factors when promoting the project.me was studied. Data on the actual transaction price of apartments representatively inhabited by the general public among real estate near the high-speed railway station were collected and analyzed. Through (2) RESEARCH METHOD Through the results of the survey, differences in satisfaction between groups and post-verification were conducted on the items of each stage of the reconstruction project according to demographic characteristics. In addition, the AHP analysis was conducted with a structured second questionnaire in a pairwise comparison method for executives of reconstruction associations and experts such as related public officials, maintenance companies, municipal construction, and architects (3) RESEARCH FINDINGS As a result of analyzing the unconstrained potential growth model, it was confirmed that apartments located within 5km of the high-speed railway station rose in price after the location of the high-speed railway station, and apartments within 2km of the station had a much larger increase in sales price than apartments after 2km. In the pharmaceutical potential growth model, it was confirmed that the distance between apartments and high-speed railway stations, and the rate of increase in apartment sales prices as the aging period after construction increased, and there was no difference between regions. 2. RESULTS It was found that the promotion committee's operating regulation system was supplemented, the prior feasibility review for project promotion was strengthened, the general meeting of the union was held, and the decision procedure was implemented. The reason why all experts and administrative experts were ranked first is that the city and provincial governor should prepare and distribute the standard articles of incorporation, so it was selected as an important factor because it is necessary to supplement the operating regulation system to meet the changed conditions such as the revision of the law.

Types of Research Grants Collaborative research grants are usually interdisciplinary, multicentre, and multicountry. These are led by senior researchers with a team of co-investigators including post–doctoral fellows, and postgraduate students. Fellowships are individual research grants that provide the fellow who obtains the grant the time to focus on the research project for a stipulated time. Targeted grants are for early-career, mid-career, or senior researchers. The grant announcement for these indicates the category of researchers who are eligible to apply. Networking grants are aimed at developing teams and establishing teams of academic and research collaborators for a particular research topic. These grants provide funding for researchers to engage in discussions regarding potential research ideas. Small grants fund small research projects or preliminary research that provide initial data for larger research projects in the future. Travel grants are usually for professional development and are provided by disciplinary specialist organisations. The researcher is supported to travel to institutions that have resources or opportunities that are not available at their home institution. Knowledge transfer grants or industrial partnerships are grants aimed at promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange between academic and non-academic collaborators. The funds can also be used for proof of concept, pilots, and getting new products to the market. Conference grants are used to disseminate research findings or host research conferences. Grant proposals The proposals should conform to the guidelines indicated in the funding opportunity announcement. Funders have guidelines regarding the sections of the proposals, font type, and font sizes to be used, sections of the proposal, page limits for each section, and the overall proposal. Project narrative This section provides the most comprehensive description of the proposed project. The main areas are the background and literature review that identify research gaps. It contains the research problem and questions/aims and objectives and documents the proposed research methods. Other areas addressed are the project management and delivery plan, which may require work packages. The budget and budget justification are also addressed in this section. Other documents required are: The curriculum vitae of the investigators detailing their previous research and how it relates to the current application. Well-written letters of support from collaborators and collaborating institutions that address the roles and responsibilities of team members are essential. This is particularly important for collaborative research that involves various partners from other universities, non-academic organisations, and industry. These partners should provide signed letters of support that indicate the specific contribution of the collaborator and commitment research project, and the contribution in cash or in-kind.

Integration of lean management and BIM technologies for effective project management and production processes at a construction stage

As modern businesses face increasingly complex and voluminous projects, the need for efficient management and planning of production processes becomes paramount. To meet these challenges, it is necessary to develop new theoretical approaches. In this regard, advanced technologies such as BIM (Building Information Modeling), Lean Construction, and Agile are becoming increasingly powerful for project management and process planning. By combining these technologies and methodologies, companies can use the available potential to increase efficiency and achieve better outcomes. The integration of digital technology and automation facilitates the optimization of production processes and reduces project time. For example, the integration of lean construction and BIM technologies is a pivotal factor in achieving efficient project management and planning for production processes in the construction industry. By combining lean principles with modern BIM technology, it is possible for companies to increase performance and optimize the use of their limited resources, including time, labor, materials, and capital. This integration leads to improved project planning, enhanced transparency and accuracy of information, cost and risk reduction, as well as better communication and collaboration among project participants. All these factors contribute to the efficiency and success of modern projects.

More Accurate Cost Estimation for Internet of Things Projects by Adaptation of Use Case Points Methodology

This paper adapts the Use Case Points method to estimate the size and development effort required for the Internet of Things systems. Despite the extensive use of UCP in software engineering, it has yet to be adapted for IoT systems, which is essential for project management and resource planning. Our proposed adaptation, UCP for IoT, is based on a four-layer IoT architecture and tailors the standard software UCP to the specifications of IoT systems. It was validated using a case study of three IoT systems, demonstrating its applicability and effectiveness in estimating the development effort required for IoT projects. However, the results also highlight the need for further improvements, particularly given the absence of historical data sets for IoT projects. Our future work will focus on gathering such datasets and further refining the proposed model.

Based on the research, the article describes the motivation and expectation of students who entered the first year in the direction of training organization of work with youth. Flexible skills that are important for a future specialist according to students, teachers and employers have been identified. Based on an expert survey of employers in the field of youth policy, the most important ones were identified: possession of professional knowledge, creative thinking, management of one's own development, project management, teamwork and activity planning. Based on a survey of participants of the festival in the field of training "Organization of work with youth", effective technologies for the development of flexible skills were identified, suggestions for further improvement of the event were given.

Evaluating the Impact of Risk Factors on Construction Projects of Foci in Nigeria

Risk management is a vital project management planning and control tool for reducing uncertainty and improving decision-making. Risk cannot be avoided but must be recognized, assessed and managed. One of the challenges facing the construction in Nigeria is how to assess the risk of cost overruns and deliver projects within budget. These risks can cause losses and lead to increase in costs, time delays and lack of quality project delivery. The purpose of this paper is to identify and assess the impact of the risk factors on construction projects of Federation of Construction Industry (FOCI) in Nigeria and likelihood of occurrence and degree of usage of risk analytical techniques. A total of 171 self-administered questionnaires were sent out to registered construction firms with the FOCI in Nigeria and 146 was returned representing 85.38% of respondent rate. Results of the study indicated that unavailability of funds, construction delay, inadequate specification with MIS 3.42, 3.18, 3.05, 3.04 and 3.03 ranked first, second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively as the most impactful risk factors to construction projects. Delphi Method, influencing diagram and portfolio with mean score of 3.38, 3.28 and 3.14, respectively were prominent among the analytical techniques on construction projects. However, Monte Carlo Simulation and Latin-Hyper-Cube with mean score of 2.82 and 2.92 respectively were the least from the rear. T-Test showed that only Sensitivity Analysis (111.425, P<0.05), Probabilistic analysis (55.534, P<0.05), Influence Diagram (26.164, P< 0.05), Decision Tree Analysis (25.726, P<0.05), Latin – Hyper-Cube (22.430, P<0.05), Monte Carlo Simulation (20.247, P<0.05), Delphi Method (18.493, P<0.05) as frequent of usage of alternative decision, have significant influence on risk analysis. From this study, various sets of risk factors impact differently on construction projects. Therefore, there should be adequate provision and incorporation of risks factors into the bid estimates and contractors should be encouraged to assess and consider these risks factors when bidding; so as to avert the problem of time and cost overrun.

Construction Management is an alternative management technique pattern/system in the construction industry development process that combines the stages of the development process into one unit/integration. the effect of implementing a construction management system in the process tower construction Telecommunications can optimize management and control both in terms of cost, time and quality in achieving the goals/targets that have been determined. This writing analyze how far the role, influence of the implementation of the construction management system in the Telecommunication Tower construction process and provide descriptions of the benefits and optimization obtained in its application in terms of cost, quality and time aspects. Project management (planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling) has a very large effect on the success of cost performance, quality performance and time performance on the implementation of telecommunications projects with a determination value of 80.3% cost performance affects staffing, directing and planning. Based on the quantitative analysis, the variables that have a major influence on the quality performance used are staffing, directing; and) controlling.

MANAJEMEN MATERIAL SUBSTRUCTURE DENGAN METODE MATERIAL REQUIREMENT PLANNING

Project management planning on sub structure area, very important to ensure efficient and effective construction projects. This research was purposes managing the sub structure material on precast pile and sloof using the material requirement planning (MRP) method in flat residence in West Sumatera. The scope research were the lot for lot (LFL) bar bending schedule and contingency plan (to minimize wasted material). The results of the analysis of study, the implementation of the MRP method (LFL technique) consists of cost of material planning on shop drawing, which was Rp.1,488,562,000,00; cost of material requirement planning by the lot for lot (LFL) technique was Rp.1,477,837,249,00; realization cost by combining the LFL technique and contingency plan is Rp.1,478,143,808,00. Calculation of the quantity and cost of reinforcing steel using the MRP method (LFL technique) by the bar bending schedule better than using the contingency method. Using bar bending schedule was more efficient, because it makes the remaining reinforcing steel after cutting was calculated properly.

Monitoring and Sceduling of a Bridge Using Primavera: A Review

The primary objective behind the research is to identify the job role of monitoring and controlling the project progress of construction and procure recourse allocation using management tools such as primavera P6. This was accomplished through revising the literature and procedures used in monitoring and control. The study served as a roadmap for analysing construction progress and identifying specific issues that arose during the process. The findings of the study revealed the shortcomings of the current project management system in project execution. A new project management plan is completed that is both efficient and cost-effective. By allocating more resources to project activities, the time cost trade of the project duration can be lowered. However, doing so raises the project's cost. For scheduling a set of project tasks, the critical route method is employed. Primavera software was also used for resource analysis. In this paper presents review of literature related to planning, scheduling of construction project KeyWord: Resource allocation, Resource Levelling, Time cost trade off, primavera, planning and scheduling.

Customer Loyalty during Disasters: The Case of Internet Service Providers Amidst Typhoon Odette in Central Philippine Urban Districts

The impact of service disruptions to critical utility services due to natural disasters is evident during delays in emergency responses and humanitarian relief, especially for urban populations with highly interdependent infrastructures. Aside from health and social impacts, failing to address these disruptions would inevitably lead to customer dissatisfaction and switching loyalty, adversely affecting service providers’ profitability. Thus, providers must effectively respond to this service failure resulting from disruptions to retain the loyalty of their existing customers. To this end, a theoretical model to explain customer loyalty to internet service providers amidst a disaster-induced disruption through integrating customer loyalty, customer satisfaction, service quality, service innovation, service recovery, perceived value, and brand image is proposed in this work. This study uses the case of a massive disruption caused by Typhoon Odette (Rai) in central Philippine urban districts to empirically test the efficacy of the proposed structural model. A total of 584 responses were utilized in the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to derive significant relationships between the constructs. The findings suggest that customer satisfaction strongly predicts customer loyalty during a disaster. Furthermore, efforts towards service recovery do not translate to customer loyalty, but negatively influence customer satisfaction. Moreover, service innovation significantly affects customer satisfaction but negatively influences customer loyalty. Additionally, perceived value does not support customer loyalty but positively affects customer satisfaction. Lastly, brand image and service quality influence both customer satisfaction and loyalty. These findings offer managerial insights for informing the design of a reliable service recovery system, efficient project management planning, practical service innovation, and comprehensive service design. The future research directions are discussed.

VUCA environment on project success: The effect of project management methods

Due to the ever-changing work environment in the age of digital transformation, project managers need to adapt to an environment which is volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA). Many organizations adopt management methods based on strict project management planning, assuming that they are the best way to succeed in any situation. However, projects may depend on flexibility to achieve success. This study aims to analyze the impact of adverse project environments on project success and the effect of the management method choice. A PLS-SEM model is tested on a survey of 332 project professionals. Findings showed that choosing a method that best fits the project’s environment can help catch up on project success only when it undergoes frequent changes throughout its life cycle.

Passive seismic monitoring in conventional tunnelling – An innovative approach for automatic process recognition using support vector machines

For the underground construction sector as in conventional tunnelling, there is still a lack of automatization and digitalization progresses, especially concerning tunnel construction monitoring. A manual documentation of the time intervals for subsequent processes by the respective employee is currently state of the art. This study addresses a cost and time effective data acquisition and evaluation method using conventional geophones for the differentiation of the processes involved in tunnel construction by analysis of elastic wave signals. The field experiments were executed at the construction site of “Zentrum am Berg” in Austria where seismic signals were recorded during the conventional tunnel excavation process. The seismic emissions induced by the respective machinery during different constructuon steps are distinguished with a machine learning approach using support vector machines, leading to the possibility of associating them with the corresponding time of the machinery in use. The semi-automatic evaluation of the gathered data should facilitate the documentation of the daily working diagrams, supplement project management and effective planning and optimize predictive maintenance possibilities in the underground construction industry.
