The Tradition of Reading Surah Al-Rahman (Living Qur'an Study at Ma'had IDIA Putra Prenduan Sumenep)

The Al-Qur'a n (living Qur'an) program in Ma'had IDIA became the master of Ma'hadi, which was maintained by the Master of IDIA son. Reading the Qur'a n by the Master of the program Plus TMI and Tahfidz is not correct in a certain letter, whereas in Ma'had IDIA son su>rah al-Rahma>n became the ruler of Ma'hadi. Implementation of the tradition of reading Su'rah al-Rahma'n in Ma'had IDIA son Prenduan is carried out every day after the prayer of the calf at exactly 11:30 WIB. The readings of Al-Rahma n are directed directly by Mu'allim, who is followed by the whole Mahasantri, and they begin by surrendering to the masjids before entering the readings of Al-Rahman, and by reciting the Su'rah al-Rahma with tartils together. The purpose and benefit of the tradition of reading Surah al-Rahma is to build a Mahasantri custom to read Su'rah al-Rahma after performing Dzuhur's prayer, enhance the work of Sha'lih and strive to thank God SWT. And hopefully God's SWT, gets the peace of mind as an emotional psychological cure for the Mahasantri.

INNOVATIVE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT FAMILY CAREGIVERS AND PERSONS LIVING WITH DEMENTIA

Abstract There is a continued need for accessible and cost-effective community-based services and supports for family caregivers and persons living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (ADRD). Utilizing trained volunteers may offer a scalable approach to filling gaps in ADRD care and support. This symposium will provide evidence for utilizing trained volunteers in innovative interventions designed for family caregivers and persons living with dementia. The first paper presents findings from the Senior Companion Program Plus, an intervention using lay providers to deliver a culturally informed psychoeducational intervention with African American ADRD family caregivers. The second paper highlights the Faith Care Family Project which utilizes trained church volunteers from predominantly African American churches to reach African American ADRD family caregivers. The third paper explores the PorchLight Project, a dementia-capable training and respite delivered by volunteers for older people living in the community throughout Minnesota and in select regions of North Dakota. The fourth paper presents findings from an intervention using trained, experienced Chinese dementia caregivers to be volunteer mentors to newer dementia caregivers in the same ethnic community. The final paper presents findings from a telephone-based, intergenerational reminiscence intervention with college student volunteers and persons living with cognitive impairment that incorporates digital storytelling. The symposium will conclude with a critical reflection on the empirical contributions needed to advance scholarship on leveraging volunteers to meet the needs of family caregivers and persons living with ADRD.

EXAMINING THE PRELIMINARY EFFECTIVENESS OF THE SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM PLUS FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN CAREGIVERS

Abstract Objectives A culturally informed, peer-led, lay provider model, the Senior Companion Program (SCP) Plus, was implemented to decrease caregiving burden/stress and improve coping skills, and social support for African American ADRD caregivers. This study reported the preliminary effectiveness of this intervention. Methods An explanatory sequential mixed methods design was used in this study and a randomized control trial was conducted for the SCP Plus intervention among participants in three sites (N = 20). A sub-sample of participants (n = 7) consented to a qualitative interview about their experiences with the intervention. The Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, Friedman tests, and one-way repeated measures ANOVA were conducted for quantitative analyses. Thematic analysis was used for the qualitative interviews. Results Results demonstrated that knowledge of AD/dementia (KAD) and preparedness for caregiving were significantly improved for all senior companions in the intervention group. Results also showed that caregivers in the intervention group reported significantly decreased caregiving burden, as well as increased KAD, satisfaction with social support, and positive aspects of caregiving. Themes from the qualitative interviews included: learning new skills about caregiving, gaining knowledge about ADRD, and benefits for the dyad. Discussions: Findings from this study implied that SCP Plus was a promising model for African American family caregivers as it benefits both the SC volunteers and the African American ADRD family caregivers.

The Senior Companion Program Plus for African American Caregivers of Persons With Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD) pose significant challenges as chronic health conditions in the United States. Additionally, there are notable disparities in the diagnosis and prevalence of ADRD among diverse populations. Specifically, African American populations have a higher risk of developing late-onset ADRD than White people, and missed diagnoses of ADRD are more common among older African American populations than older White populations. These disparities also impact African American ADRD family caregivers. The overall goal of this project is to develop a culturally informed, lay provider psychoeducational intervention named Senior Companion Program Plus (SCP Plus), which is specifically designed for African American ADRD caregivers and is potentially accessible, affordable, and sustainable. In the proposed explanatory sequential mixed methods study, a randomized controlled trial will be used that includes 114 African American family caregivers of a relative with ADRD who will participate in the 3-month SCP Plus program. The study was funded on September 15, 2018, by the National Institutes of Health (1R15AG058182-01A1). Data collection began on May 16, 2019, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, ended 12 months into the planned 27-month recruitment period on March 31, 2023. The study was completed in June 30, 2023, and currently the results are being analyzed. The SCP Plus offers promise as an intervention that utilizes an existing platform for the delivery of a lay provider intervention and offers a novel approach for addressing gaps in accessible, community-based support for caregivers of people with ADRD. The Senior Companion Program Plus: An Innovative Training Approach for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia.

African Americans adults are disproportionately affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and are underrepresented in research about ADRD. Reducing gaps in the knowledge about ADRD in the African American community is important for addressing dementia care disparities. The existing psychoeducation interventions are often limited by cost and scalability; for these reasons, lay provider (i.e., volunteer) interventions are of increasing interest in ADRD research. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a training of African American Senior Companion (SC) volunteers (n = 11) with dementia-specific knowledge (i.e., Senior Companion Program/SCP Plus), as part of a culturally informed, in-home, psychoeducational intervention for African American ADRD family caregivers. Learning outcomes were measured pre- and post-training, using the Knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease/dementia scale (KAD), the Sense of Competence Questionnaire, and the Preparedness for Caregiving Scale. The results showed significant improvements in knowledge of Alzheimer's disease/dementia, one competence item, "It is clear to me how much care my care recipient needs", and preparedness for caregiving. Overall, the study findings suggest the SCP Plus is a promising, culturally relevant, and potentially scalable lay provider training for ADRD with potential benefits that augment the existing Senior Companion Program.

Otago Exercise Program Plus Cognitive Dual-task can Reduce Fall Risk, Improve Cognition and Functioning in Older Adults.

The risk of falling increases with neuromusculoskeletal and cognitive changes resulting from aging. Physical exercise shows beneficial effects on the risk of falling, but the results are unknown when associated with cognitive activity dual-task (DT). The objective of the study was to evaluate the impacts of the Otago Exercise Program (OEP) plus DT cognitive activity on the risk of falling in older adults. 36 older adults (83.5 ± 5.7 years) participated in a quasi-experimental study, distributed in two experimental groups and a control group: 1) OEP (OEPG; n=12), 2) OEP plus DT (OEPDTG; n = 12), and a control group (CG; n=12). Older adults were evaluated at pre- and post- 12 weeks of intervention. The thresholds for the risk of falling were considered as multiparameter scores of the 10 Meter Walking Test (10MWT), evocative 10MWT, Timed Up and Go (TUG), Sit to Stand Test (STS), and The Four-Stage Balance Test (Four-Stage), and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), to test the cognitive impairment. At baseline, all groups were homogeneous. Post-intervention, the experimental groups presented significant functional differences, in comparison to the CG, for 10MWT (OEPDTG: p= 0.002; OEPG: p= 0.002); evocative 10MWT (OEPDTG: p=0.001; OEPG: p=0.001); TUG (OEPDTG: p=0.034); STS (OEPDTG: p<0.001; OEPG: p<0.001) and cognitive for MoCA (OEPDTG: p<0.019). Significant intra-group differences (pre-post) were observed in all intervention groups, but none in CG. The risk of falling (Four-Stage) in experimental groups (OEPDTG: 33.3%; OEPG: 41.7%) was considerably lower than CG (83.3%). Otago Exercise Program alone can reduce the risk of falling due to improved functionality, but adding the dual task also improves cognitive capacity in older adults. The clinical significance of these interventions goes beyond statistics.

THE SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM PLUS: A PROMISING LAY PROVIDER MODEL FOR ADRD FAMILY CAREGIVING

Abstract Considerable disparities exist in the prevalence of Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia (ADRD) in older African American (AA) populations compared to older white populations. Given the need for caregiver interventions for family caregivers from racial and ethnic minority groups that hold potential for translation, implementation, and sustainability in their communities, peer-led, lay provider models may offer promise. We developed the Senior Companion Program Plus (SCP Plus), a peer-led psychoeducational program for AA family caregivers (CGs) provided by Senior Companions (SCs). Guided by sociocultural stress and coping model, the study was a randomized controlled trial that assessed the effects of SCP Plus on AA ADRD family caregivers’ stress and burden, coping skills, and social support. Although COVID-19 ended the trial early, study participants included Senior Companion-Caregiver dyads (N=20). Friedman tests for non-normally distributed variables, one-way repeated measures ANOVA for normally distributed variables, and post hoc between group significance tests were conducted. CGs in SCP Plus group reported significantly decreased caregiving burden (F(2,6) = 17.65, p = 0.003) especially between pre- and follow up-tests, as well as increased coping skills, especially at post-test (F(2,6) = 4.93, p = 0.05), satisfaction with social support (χ2(2) = 6.53, p = 0.04), and positive aspect of caregiving (χ2(2) = 6.53, p = 0.04) (especially between pre- and post-tests as well as between pre- and follow up-tests). Implications for future research are offered as well as lessons learned for culturally congruent, lay provider interventions for ADRD family caregivers.

Effects of a Pedometer-Based Walking Home Program Plus Resistance Training on Inflammatory Cytokines and Depression in Thai Older People with Sarcopenia: A Three-Arm Randomized Controlled Trial

ABSTRACT Objective To examine the effects of daily walking steps plus resistive exercise on chronic inflammatory markers and depressive symptoms in older adults with sarcopenia. Methods Ninety men and women aged over 60 years were enrolled and divided into 60 and 30 adults with and without sarcopenia, respectively. Older individuals were screened for sarcopenia using the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia in 2019. A simple random sample was conducted to divide the older adults with sarcopenia into two groups: control and intervention. Thirty older adults with sarcopenia were assigned to perform 12 weeks of step walking (>7500 steps) daily for 5 days/week plus resistance exercise with an elastic band twice/week; the control groups (i.e., no sarcopenia and sarcopenia) performed routine daily life Changes in depression and expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were measured before and after the 12-week intervention program. Two-way mixed ANOVA models were computed for group and interaction effects for each variable. Results Changes in depressive symptom scores (Δ2.86 ± 0.92) and TNF-α levels (Δ22.16 ± 2.30) were observed in the intervention group after the 12-week program. In addition, an interaction effect between the intervention (Δ4.04 ± 3.10) and control groups (Δ8.10 ± 4.88) was found for the symptoms of depression. Conclusion Older people with sarcopenia who accumulated >7,500 steps/day, 5 days/week plus resistive elastic band twice /week show improvements in inflammation and depressive symptoms. Clinical implications: Encourage physical activity had a positive effect on reducing inflammation and depression among older people with sarcopenia.

The crop insurance demand response to the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus

AbstractPrevious literature has suggested that ad hoc disaster aid can crowd out demand for residential flood insurance. However, this phenomenon remains relatively unexplored in the agriculture insurance sector. In this paper, we focus on the most recent ad hoc disaster aid program for US agricultural producers, the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+). Using county‐level data on WHIP+ payments, we find support for the program crowding out demand for crop insurance. However, we find the issue to be nuanced, noting that the demand response to WHIP+ payments is subject to heterogeneity across several dimensions including commodity, insurance plan, and coverage level.

Challenges to and Strategies for the Climate Village Program Plus: A Lesson Learned from Indonesia

The Climate Village Program (CVP) is one of the national flagship programs of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia to support emission reduction and climate resilience. This paper examines the challenges and strategies for implementing the climate village program in the national and sub-national contexts. Data and information derived from discussions, seminars, focus group discussions, and interviews with local government officials in East Kalimantan were used to analyze the social learning of the CVP plus, including those on the policy process and its concept, integration program, and implementation. Sustainable strategies need to be addressed by integrating the CVP plus into the medium-term development plan of the region. The challenges and way forward of the CVP plus could be an excellent lesson for implementation in all provinces of Indonesia to support FOLU (Forest Other Land Use) Net Sinker 2030 and LTS-LCCR (Long-Term Strategy on Low Carbon and Climate Resilience) 2050. Key challenges and strategies for the CVP plus are highlighted in the planning and implementation phases, especially in improving climate resilience. This study also points out the steps of implementation of the CVP, development partners and their roles in relation to climate change and other socio-economic facts that make it difficult to engage real stakeholders in the implementation of the CVP plus.

A cluster randomized controlled trial for measuring the impact of a social norm intervention addressing child marriage in Pirgacha in Rangpur district of Bangladesh: study protocol for evaluation of the Tipping Point Initiative

ABSTRACT Child Marriage (CM) is one of the major developmental concerns in Bangladesh, reporting one of the highest rates of CM (59%) globally. To date, interventions to address CM in Bangladesh have failed to seriously engage with social norms that are important contributors to CM. This paper describes the evaluation design of the Tipping Point Initiative that aims to reduce CM through social norm change and increasing adolescent girls’ agency to voice their rights. The Tipping Point Initiative evaluation trial employs a mixed method design. The quantitative component includes a three-arm Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial design, where Arm 1 receives Tipping Point Program (TPP); Arm 2 receives Tipping Point Program Plus (TPP+), a social norms-enhanced version of TPP; and Arm 3 is the Control. The trial covers 51 clusters (villages) in Pirgacha, in Rangpur district, randomized into three study arms (17 per arms). From each cluster, a cohort of 25 adolescent girls aged 12–<16 years were selected randomly for participation in the survey and intervention. Further, a cross-section of adults (six males and six females) were randomly selected from each cluster for survey. Qualitative baseline data were collected from two purposively selected intervention villages in each intervention arm. Thirty In-Depth Interviews, eight Key Informant Interviews and 16 Focus Group Discussion were conducted with adolescent girls, boys, adult women and men. Same strategies have been followed at endline. The intervention was implemented from April 2019 to December 2020. The endline was conducted 10 months after the end of intervention. Intention-to-treat analysis approach will be used for impact assessment. Both narrative analysis and Grounded Theory approach will be employed in analysing qualitative data. The learnings are expected to inform programs and policies regarding what works and does not work to address CM in such social norms intervention in Bangladesh.

Low-income energy efficiency programs and energy consumption

Low-income energy efficiency programs have become a major component of cities’ energy policy, with 49 out of 51 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. offering one. This paper uses data from Gainesville Regional Utility to quantify the impacts of the housing investment done by its Low-income Energy Efficiency Program Plus (LEEP Plus) on energy consumption. Our results show that LEEP Plus does not affect natural gas consumption but reduces electricity consumption by approximately 7%, with greater savings occurring in the summer and winter. The effect on electricity consumption is significant to a variety of robustness checks and remains for at least 24 months after the completion of energy efficiency upgrades. We also measure some relevant heterogeneous effects, one of which is the breakdown of the air-conditioning-related investments, the main energy efficiency improvement under the LEEP Plus program. Finally, we evaluate the energy savings in monetary terms considering the private cost changes and the social cost changes. In both cases, the associated energy savings are not enough to offset the investment costs.

Pivoting during the pandemic: A case study of the Senior Companion Program Plus

Introduction: Growing research supports the use of older volunteers to provide respite and community-based assistance to persons with ADRD and their caregivers. This study explores the impact of COVID-19 on a face-to-face, peer-led psychoeducational intervention for African American ADRD family caregivers, the Senior Companion Program Plus (SCP-Plus), and its subsequent need to ‘pivot’ during the pandemic. Method: The SCP-Plus was a randomized control trial across three states that assessed program impact on ADRD family caregiver stress/burden, coping, and social support. In spring 2020, the SCP-Plus intervention was halted because of the potential risk to participants due to COVID-19 (n = 20 enrolled dyads). In an effort to maintain rapport and trust, critical to retention in research studies, team members began weekly (March-April) and then bi-weekly calls (May-December) for the purpose of providing a social check-in and to provide updates on the status of the intervention. Results: A total of 396 calls lasting approximately 10 minutes each were completed. Participants shared concerns around safety, access to food/supplies/masks/testing, feelings of stress and loss, concern for others, and the importance of technology as a means of social connection. Although the intervention aspect of the SCP-Plus ultimately ended due to COVID-19, information gleaned from these check-ins were used to pivot the study. The study moved forward by using a descriptive phenomenological approach to capture dyads’ lived experiences during COVID-19. Discussion: Overall, purposeful participant engagement through weekly/bi-weekly phone calls suggests that this is a promising strategy for participant retention as well as for pivoting research.

NATURAL DISASTER AND MITIGATION ENCYCLOPEDIA BOOK BASED ON ISLAMIC VALUES FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

This research aims to determine feasibility for the natural disaster and its mitigation based on Islamic Values for elementary school students. This study uses the research and development (RD) method, the model used in the research is the ADDIE model. This stage of development is analyze, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of the research trials is 36 students of grade IV and V SD Muhammadiyah Pakel Program Plus Yogyakarta. Data collection techniques are interviews, observations, and the teacher and student response assessment sheets are then analyzed using quantitative and qualitative data. Media Feasibility Assessment results by media experts acquiring a score of 4, material expert 3.9, learning expert 3.88, and linguist 3.50. Besides, a small-scale student response with a score of 97.5 and a large-scale student response with a score of 97.8. Based on some assessments, the average value of 95.1 was achieved with the "excellent" category. Based on this assessment, the category "Very Feasible" was obtained. The response from the teacher obtained from an extensive questionnaire obtained good results starting from the presentation of the material, the layout, the colors used, as well as the pictures/illustrations presented. From these results, it can be concluded that the natural disaster and its mitigation based on the Islamic values encyclopedia are appropriate for learning.

Mindfulness-Based Program Plus Amygdala and Insula Retraining (MAIR) for the Treatment of Women with Fibromyalgia: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

The lack of highly effective treatments for fibromyalgia (FM) represents a great challenge for public health. The objective of this parallel, pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) was two-fold: (1) to analyze the clinical effects of mindfulness plus amygdala and insula retraining (MAIR) compared to a structurally equivalent active control group of relaxation therapy (RT) in the treatment of FM; and (2) to evaluate its impact on immune-inflammatory markers and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in serum. A total of 41 FM patients were randomized into two study arms: MAIR (intervention group) and RT (active control group), both as add-ons of treatment as usual. MAIR demonstrated significantly greater reductions in functional impairment, anxiety, and depression, as well as higher improvements in mindfulness, and self-compassion at post-treatment and follow-up, with moderate to large effect sizes. Significant decreases in pain catastrophizing and psychological inflexibility and improvements in clinical severity and health-related quality of life were found at follow-up, but not at post-treatment, showing large effect sizes. The number needed to treat was three based on the criteria of ≥50% Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) reduction post-treatment. Compared to RT, the MAIR showed significant decreases in BDNF. No effect of MAIR was observed in immune-inflammatory biomarkers (i.e., TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10, and hs-CRP). In conclusion, these results suggest that MAIR, as an adjuvant of treatment-as-usual (TAU), appears to be effective for the management of FM symptoms and for reducing BDNF levels in serum.

Effects of a Multimodal Exercise Program Plus Neural Gliding on Postural Control, Pain, and Flexibility of Institutionalized Older Adults: A Randomized, Parallel, and Double-Blind Study.

The effect of adding neural mobilization to a multimodal program of exercises has not been investigated, despite its potential positive effects. The aim of this study was to compare the acute effects of a multimodal exercise program and neural gliding against a multimodal exercise program only, on pain intensity, gait speed, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, lower limb flexibility, and static balance of institutionalized older adults. Older adults who were institutionalized (n = 26) were randomized to receive a multimodal exercise program plus neural gliding or a multimodal exercise program only. Both interventions were delivered twice a week for 8 weeks. Participants were assessed for pain, gait velocity, balance, flexibility, and TUG at baseline and postintervention. A significant main effect of time for pain intensity (F1,24 = 8.95, P = .006), balance (F1,24 = 10.29, P = .004), and gait velocity (F1,24 = 5.51, P = .028) was observed, indicating a positive impact of both interventions. No other significant effects were found (TUG and flexibility; P > .05). A 45-minute multimodal exercise program, twice a week for 8 weeks, has a positive impact on pain intensity, balance, and gait velocity, but neural gliding has no additional benefit. It is unclear whether dose and type of neural mobilization may have had an impact on results. Considering the structural and physiological changes that tend to occur with age, future studies could explore the effects of neural tensioning or of higher doses of neural mobilization. This study suggests that adding neural gliding to a multimodal exercise program has no additional benefit.

Utilizing the Senior Companion Program as a platform for a culturally informed caregiver intervention: Results from a mixed methods pilot study.

To address the need for accessible, affordable, and sustainable Alzheimer's disease and related dementia caregiver interventions with minority populations, we developed the Senior Companion Program Plus, a three-phase pilot study that used a mixed methods experimental design. The intent was to determine if participation in a lay provider, peer-led psychoeducational intervention designed for African American Alzheimer's disease and related dementia caregivers (N = 16) improved caregiver burden and/or stress, coping skills, and social support. Focus groups with Senior Companions informed the intervention design. Quantitative results indicated that caregivers experienced improvement in their overall level of social support and well-being in meeting basic needs. Qualitative findings suggested that caregivers experienced improvement in their knowledge about the disease, experienced increased coping with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia caregiving, and reported benefits of using a lay provider model. Overall, the data suggest that the Senior Companion Program Plus is a promising intervention for African American Alzheimer's disease and related dementia caregivers.

Effects of a Game-Based Virtual Reality Video Capture Training Program Plus Occupational Therapy on Manual Dexterity in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Neurorehabilitation is a fundamental aspect in the treatment approach for multiple sclerosis (MS), in which new technologies have gained popularity, especially the use of virtual reality (VR). The aim of this paper is to analyze an occupational therapy (OT) intervention compared with OT + VR (OT + VR) on the manual dexterity of patients with MS. 26 MS subjects were initially recruited from an MS patient association and randomized into two groups. The OT group received 20 conventional OT sessions distributed in two sessions per week. The OT + VR group received 20 sessions of VR interventions, twice weekly and lasting 30 minutes, consisting of VR games accessed via the online web page motiongamingconsole.com, in addition to the conventional OT sessions. Pre- and postintervention assessments were based on the Purdue Pegboard Test, the Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test, and the Grooved Pegboard Test. Clinical improvements were found regarding the precision of movements, the execution times, and the efficiency of certain functional tasks in the Purdue Pegboard Test and Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test tests in the OT + VR group. Although significant differences were not found in the manual dexterity between the OT and OT + VR groups, improvements were found regarding the precision and effectiveness of certain functional tasks.
