10.C. Scientific session: Shifting the focus of health and economic policies: Investing in sustainable health and well-being

Abstract The main theme of the 18th European Public Health Conference, to be held in Helsinki in 2025, is ‘Investing for sustainable health and well-being.’ The theme emphasizes the concept that improving population health and well-being is an investment rather than an expenditure, benefiting society as a whole and contributing to a more sustainable economy. This workshop will introduce the thematic areas of the 2025 European Public Health Conference through three presentations. First, we will highlight the approach of public health policy drawing on the economy of well-being and its application in wider societal policymaking. Second, we will explore how EU policies can contribute towards a Wellbeing Economy and how to ensure health and wellbeing remain on policy-making agendas. Third, we will present an economic case for investing in health and health systems and highlight the co-benefits it brings to other policy areas and sustainable development goals. Finally, we will discuss the future expectations for European public health policy. The workshop will conclude with a general discussion, providing the audience with an opportunity to propose topics for inclusion in the programme of the European Public Health Conference in 2025. Preparing Students for the Workplace: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Curriculum for master’s level education in library and information science is an historically popular subject of discussion in the disciplinary literature. Specific topic areas are interrogated (Saunders & Bajjaly, 2022), opinions are solicited about courses or topics which ought to be required of all students (Saunders, 2019) or required of students in particular sub-areas of the profession (Davis & Saunders, 2020; Saunders, 2020; Williams & Saunders, 2020), changes over time are analyzed (EunKyung Chung, Schalk, & JungWon Yoon, 2022), and external standards are developed to articulate the breadth and depth of curricula which “should” be included (ALA, 2023). Similarly, the literature promotes a range of pedagogical approaches (Ely, 2023), and conference programs (such as the ALISE conference) and webinar series (such as those sponsored by ALISE, including the “LIS Pedagogy Chat” series) also address pedagogy. One aspect of professional practice that has received less consideration is the way students are prepared to hold realistic expectations for the workplace. Those expectations may relate to organizational cultures, practices, and challenges, all of which may be minimally addressed during students’ pre-professional education or ignored completely. The panel highlights specific aspects of workplace experience as revealed through research projects delving into the lived experiences of library workers. These research findings will be considered in terms of the ways in which they may inform the curricula of master’s programs in the field. The panel will open with a very short introduction by the moderator, Dr. Heidi Julien. Then each panelist will have 15 minutes to summarize results of their recent studies, and individually will suggest their implications for preparing master’s students for the realities of professional practice. The remaining 40 minutes will be devoted to audience discussion about possible ways students may be exposed to these realities. Prompting questions for the audience include: Are there other workplace realities not addressed by the panel that would be relevant to students? Who is best positioned to discuss these realities with students – e.g., practitioners? Adjunct instructors? Regular faculty members? Alumni? Are there existing opportunities in master’s curricula to include these discussions, or would extra-curricular opportunities be more effective? Ideas generated by the panelists and the audience will be captured and shared with attendees orally at the close of the session.

The 2024 3rd International Conference on Architecture, Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Technology (AGECT 2024) was held in Barcelona, Spain from August 10-11, 2024. The conference brings together innovative scholars and industry experts in the fields of architecture design, urban planning, building materials, structural engineering, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and construction technology into a common forum. The main objective of AGECT 2024 was to promote research and development activities. Another goal is to promote the exchange of scientific information between researchers, engineers, PHDs, students, and practitioners working in the conference and workshop. During the conference, the conference model was divided into three sessions, including oral presentations, keynote speeches, and online Q&A discussion. In the first part, some scholars, whose submissions were selected as the excellent papers, were given about 8-15 minutes to perform their oral presentations one by one. Then in the second part, keynote speakers were each allocated 30-40 minutes to hold their speeches. We would like to acknowledge all of those who supported AGECT 2024. The help and contribution of each individual and institution was instrumental in the success of the conference. In particular, we would like to thank the organizing committee for its valuable inputs in shaping the conference program and reviewing the submitted papers. Over the last 6 years, MEIE has been held in various locations, including in-person conferences in Hangzhou (2018 & 2019), an online conference for COVID-19 (2020), a hybrid event in Kunming (2021), an online conference (2022) and a hybrid event in Sanya (2023), attracted participants from more than 14 countries and regions including Sweden, Canada, the United States, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia. The 7th International Conference on Mechanical, Electric, and Industrial Engineering (MEIE2024) was organized by the College of Mechanical Engineering, Donghua University, China, co-organized by Chinese Institute for Quality Research, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics, Ningbo University, China, the Shanghai Society for Modern Design Theory and Methodology Research, and Shanghai Graphics Society. It was successfully held during May 21-23, 2024 in Yichang, China and online. This event attracted over 100 participants from all over the world from China, Sweden, USA, Canada, Germany, Pakistan, and etc., and addressed both basic research and the societal/industrial-technological needs within mechanical, electric and industrial engineering. Conference program was divided into 4 sessions: keynote speeches, invited speeches, oral presentations and poster presentations. During these sessions, presenters shared their latest achievements and audiences were actively participated as well. The MEIE organizing committee extend their sincerest gratitude to all who have supported the conference in their ways, to the authors who have chosen this platform to publish their works and communicate with peers, to the participants who took an interest and attended the conference in person and/or online, to the chairs and committee members who have been indispensable in lending their professional expertise and judgment, to the keynote speakers who generously shared their vision and passion, and to the reviewers who held up the faith of being a scholar and contributed their experience and honest opinions. Introduction Under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Mahad Said Ali Baawain, Minister of Labour, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) - Suhar, Oman, has hosted the Second International Conference on Environmental Science and Engineering for Sustainable Development (ESESD 2024) on March 6th and 7th, 2024, continuing the event’s successful first iteration, which was held in March 2022. The conference provided an excellent forum for exchanging knowledge and findings in the theory, methodology, and applications among academicians, industry professionals, researchers, and students, who have presented their latest research outcomes, as well as solidifying networks. Prominently, the attendees have discussed how to use scientific ideas and cutting-edge technology to explore potential novel, sustainable solutions to pressing environmental problems and to foster new partnerships in various fields include, but not exclusive to: Carbon Neutrality, Pollution and Carbon Emission Management, Renewable Energy, Circular economy, Applications of Nanotechnology to Serve Environmental Issues, Materials Science and its Applications for Sustainability, Engineering Design to Serve Sustainability Purposes, AI and IoT Applications in Environment and Sustainable Development, Biological and Environmental Sciences in Sustainable Development, Human Behaviour and Societal Influences on Environmental Sustainability. 2024 3rd International Conference on Advances in Modern Physics Sciences and Engineering Technology (PSET 2024) was held in Wuhan, China during June 29-30, 2024. The PSET 2024 is organized by National Institute of High Mathematics (INdAM), Italy; Complex Engineering Systems (OA Journal Editorial Office) and technically supported by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; University of Victoria, Canada; Politecnico di Milano, Italy and Rongzhi Sciences and Technology Center, China. The conference program included keynote, oral, and poster presentations from scientists working in similar areas, aiming to establish platforms for collaborative research projects and to explore potential opportunities for international cooperation in the fields of Modern Physics Sciences and Engineering Technology. This year, we received an overwhelming response from the scientific community, with a total of 57 paper submissions. Each submission underwent a rigorous peer-review process, ensuring that only the highest quality research was selected. After careful consideration and evaluation by our esteemed review panel, 21 papers were accepted for presentation at the conference. The selected papers represent a diverse range of topics, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of modern physics and engineering technology. DARC 2024 at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam: Bridging accounting research and society

On June 4 and 5, 2024, the 8th Dutch Accounting Research Conference (DARC) was hosted at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam. In addition, the conference featured a PhD event for Accounting PhD students from Dutch universities on the day preceding the main conference program. In this essay, we highlight the main takeaways from (organizing) the conference and reflect on how accounting research can strengthen its relationship with practice and society.

Predictors of Health Care Practitioners' Intention to Use AI-Enabled Clinical Decision Support Systems: Meta-Analysis Based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology.

Artificial intelligence-enabled clinical decision support systems (AI-CDSSs) offer potential for improving health care outcomes, but their adoption among health care practitioners remains limited. This meta-analysis identified predictors influencing health care practitioners' intention to use AI-CDSSs based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Additional predictors were examined based on existing empirical evidence. The literature search using electronic databases, forward searches, conference programs, and personal correspondence yielded 7731 results, of which 17 (0.22%) studies met the inclusion criteria. Random-effects meta-analysis, relative weight analyses, and meta-analytic moderation and mediation analyses were used to examine the relationships between relevant predictor variables and the intention to use AI-CDSSs. The meta-analysis results supported the application of the UTAUT to the context of the intention to use AI-CDSSs. The results showed that performance expectancy (r=0.66), effort expectancy (r=0.55), social influence (r=0.66), and facilitating conditions (r=0.66) were positively associated with the intention to use AI-CDSSs, in line with the predictions of the UTAUT. The meta-analysis further identified positive attitude (r=0.63), trust (r=0.73), anxiety (r=-0.41), perceived risk (r=-0.21), and innovativeness (r=0.54) as additional relevant predictors. Trust emerged as the most influential predictor overall. The results of the moderation analyses show that the relationship between social influence and use intention becomes weaker with increasing age. In addition, the relationship between effort expectancy and use intention was stronger for diagnostic AI-CDSSs than for devices that combined diagnostic and treatment recommendations. Finally, the relationship between facilitating conditions and use intention was mediated through performance and effort expectancy. This meta-analysis contributes to the understanding of the predictors of intention to use AI-CDSSs based on an extended UTAUT model. More research is needed to substantiate the identified relationships and explain the observed variations in effect sizes by identifying relevant moderating factors. The research findings bear important implications for the design and implementation of training programs for health care practitioners to ease the adoption of AI-CDSSs into their practice.

Diverse Contributing Body

In 1962, the CCCC released a report titled “The Freshman Whose Native Language is Not English.” In this report, the chair argued for separate courses dedicated to teaching language-diverse students and staffed by instructors specially trained in Linguistics. Paul Kei Matsuda (1999; 2013) argues that this moment marks the institutional divide between U.S. Composition and Applied Linguistics that would go on to create a vacuum of knowledgeable peers in Composition. This vacuum meant that new composition theories interested in language learning were not held accountable by scholarship in Applied Linguistics. If Matsuda’s assessment of this division of labour is correct, it begs the question: does the same division of labour exist in a Canadian context between Writing Studies and L2 writing? How have these two fields related historically, and what implications does this relationship (or lack thereof) have on the future of writing instruction in Canada’s increasingly language-diverse classrooms? The purpose of this paper is to construct a narrative of the history of the relationship between Writing Studies and L2 Writing as it pertains to one of Canada’s two writing organizations: the Canadian Association for Studies in Language and Literature, also known as Inkshed. To that end, this paper excavates the Inkshed newsletters and conference programs from 1980 onward for archival research elucidating any potential cross-pollination between Writing Studies and L2 Writing. To further explore the relationship between these two fields in Inkshed’s past, this research builds on the work of Miriam E. Horne who composes a rich picture of Inkshed’s development in her book, Writing in a Community of Practice: Composing Membership in Inkshed. The findings from this paper reveal that not only did Writing Studies and L2 Writing scholarship “cross-fertilize” during the tenure of Inkshed, these two fields remained closely linked through the decades. In other words, at the writing of this paper, there does not appear to have ever been an institutional division of labour between Writing Studies and L2 Writing in the Canadian context. Ultimately, these findings contribute to the broader narrative of how Writing Studies has professionalized in a Canadian context. They also contribute to the ongoing conversation regarding how writing instructors, writing program administrators, and writing centre professionals can best support culturally and linguistically diverse writers in Canadian classrooms. By drawing on this longstanding relationship with L2 Writing, Writing Studies scholars and practitioners are uniquely situated to move into the future of higher education equipped with language-based writing theories that are rooted in a community of knowledgeable L2 Writing peers.

What and How Read Our Children: Cross-Cultural Aspect (review of the conference papers)

The article presents the results of the II International Scientific and Practical Conference “What and How Our Children Read: Cross-Cultural Aspect”, which was held at the Russian State Children’s Library on June 1-2, 2023.The goals of the conference were to discuss modern approaches to the study of reading and the reader; to consider current problems in the field of studying children’s reading; to exchange creative forms and methods of introducing preschoolers, schoolchildren and teenagers to reading; to popularize information resources for promoting the value of books and reading; to study the role of family, school and library in introducing children to reading. The author considered the key plenary presentations, a specialized round table as well as the work of two thematic sessions that took place within the conference programme.

Abstract The 27th International Conference on Building Materials, Products and Technologies (ICBMPT 2024) was held on 13th to 14th May 2024. This year, the conference took place in the beautiful town Mikulov in a region popular for vineyards and wine cellars with great wine. The main topics of ICBMPT 2024 were: Inorganic binders, Smart materials for 21st century, Sustainable building materials and circularity, Technology and test methods and Alternative materials. Also, several keynote speakers were attracted to contribute to our conference. The organizers from the Research Institute for Building Materials collected 15 interesting papers among research workplaces in the Czech Republic and abroad. The conference brings not only interesting presentations, but also it creates a platform for scientific discussions and proposals of new mutual projects. Besides the conference program, there was a possibility to take part in the specialized workshop Healthy Buildings with many interesting topics, among others biodeteriogen on façade and indoor, chemical and physical influences inside buildings, asbestos under the skin of buildings and radioactive substances in buildings. As side events, there was an option being skilled in the seminar on European grant opportunities and in the minisymposium on Mathematical simulations in research. The ACM Web Conference 2024 Report

The 33rd edition of The Web Conference was successfully held from May 13 to 17, 2024 at Resorts World Convention Centre, Singapore. It was held as in-person conference that also featured rich virtual elements. The first two days of the five-day event featured workshops, tutorials, special days, and symposia. The last three days were the main conference days dedicated to keynote speeches, parallel presentation sessions of research, industry and special tracks, as well as multiple poster and demo sessions. This brief report provides an overview with organization and program details and statistics from Conference Chairs and Program Committee Chairs. Prof. Head of Geological Engineering Department Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta, Indonesia It is an honour for the Geological Engineering Department of Universitas Gadjah Mada to hold the 3rd International Conference on Geological Engineering and Geosciences (ICGoES 2023), an annual conference program sponsored by our department. This is the 3rd year we hold this international conference, which was originally started in 2014 as a national level geology festival and seminar for Indonesian academics and students. The chosen theme for this year’s event, “Innovating the Future: Navigating the Intersection of Geology and Technology,” encapsulates the dynamic synergy between two realms undergoing rapid evolution. Within the sphere of geology and geosciences, technological advancements have ushered in a new era of understanding and exploration. These innovations offer powerful tools and novel methodologies that enable scientists to delve deeper into the complexities of our ever-changing planet, particularly in response to the pressing challenges posed by the climate crisis. The fusion of geology and technology not only expands our knowledge but also enhances our ability to adapt and respond effectively to environmental shifts. Yet, amidst the strides forward, there exist inherent challenges. The unprecedented accessibility to technology brings with it a set of hurdles, demanding careful navigation and thoughtful consideration. As we venture into this intersection, we must remain vigilant, recognizing both the opportunities and obstacles that accompany this transformative journey. I hope the success of this event will strengthen future collaboration between our university with universities and research institutes in Indonesia and from all over the world.
