Artificial intelligence for production, operations and logistics management in modular construction industry: A systematic literature review

Artificial intelligence (AI) has garnered significant attention within the modular construction industry, emerging as a prominent frontier development trend. A comprehensive and systematic analysis is required to gain a thorough understanding of the existing literature on the use of AI in the management of production, operations, and logistics within the modular construction industry. This review delves into the various aspects of AI implementation in this sector, adopting a critical perspective. The objective of this paper is to analyze the progress, suitability, and research patterns in the field of AI for the management of productions, operations, and logistics within the modular construction industry. First, a concise overview of AI technologies pertaining to the contemporary research on the production, operations and logistics management of the modular construction industry is provided. Second, a bibliometric analysis is performed to provide a comprehensive overview of the existing publications pertaining to this subject matter. Subsequently, this paper presents literature reviews and outlines future directions for each component, specifically AI in the context of production management, operations management, and logistics management within the modular construction industry. The review provides a valuable knowledge base and roadmap to guide future research and development efforts in AI-enhanced modular construction management.

Factors affecting labor productivity in the global construction industry: a critical review, classification and ranking

The construction industry plays a fundamental role in economic development and job creation, but it faces challenges of labor productivity that have been exacerbated due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Labor productivity is a critical component of success, as it influences the duration, costs, and efficiency ofprojects. Understanding the nature of factors affecting labor productivity is essential to finding solutions. This study examined the literature to identify key factors influencing labor productivity, departing from conventional analytical approaches. Through mixed-methods analysis, qualitative approaches of systematic reviews identified influential factors based on 97 documents.Subsequently, they were classified using a combination of statistical analysis and hierarchical clustering methods that encompassed both internal and external factors. The Importance Value Index allowed for the classification of the 30 most critical factors, analyzing three possible ranking scenarios. The study found that the interest in researching the topic remains relevant and has evolved over time. In recent years, greater attention has been paid to labor, management, work environment, and technical aspects. The results indicate that internal project factors, such as scheduling, planning, technical considerations, and resourcemanagement, are more predictable and controllable than external factors. Effective resource management and a comprehensive approach are essential for optimizing construction productivity. Project-level factors, as well as materials, tools, and equipment, play an important role. By synthesizing existing knowledge and identifying and classifying key productivity factors, this study offers valuable insights to construction professionals, policymakers, and researchers seeking to improve labor productivity and optimize project outcomes.

Consumer purchase intention for extrinsic and intrinsic cues of construction and demolition waste recycled products

PurposeThe preferences and adoption of recycled materials by consumers are subject to a variety of factors, such as enablers and barriers. Despite this, there exists a paucity of research concerning stakeholders' perceived value and real purchase decision towards recycled products. Consequently, this research study aims to fill this gap by investigating stakeholders' perceived value of recycled products derived from construction and demolition (C&D) waste and its effect on purchase decisions.Design/methodology/approachResearch data were collected from 219 valid questionnaires completed by Chinese stakeholders. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was then employed to test eight hypotheses.FindingsThe results show intrinsic cue (materials) and extrinsic cue (brand) influence the stakeholders’ judgment on C&D waste recycled products’ value and then their purchase intention. However, cues such as quality, word-of-mouth, price, policy and advertised have not play a significant role in practice.Originality/valueThis research study verified the significance of brand and material cues on decision making for purchasing C&D waste recycled products, providing new insights to policy making to enhance the uptake of C&D waste recycled products in construction industry.

Evaluation of carbon footprint of compression cast waste rubber concrete based on LCA approach

Compression cast waste rubber concrete (CCWRC) is a type of concrete that using waste tire rubber to replace conventional coarse aggregates and adopting the compression cast process to improve the mechanical properties of concrete. This type of concrete has the potential for carbon reduction, however, there is a lack of quantitative research to evaluate the carbon footprint (CFP) of CCWRC. By adopting the life cycle assessment (LCA) method, the CFP and carbon reduction potential of CCWRC are assessed in this study. The results show that the CFP of CCWRC with conventional coarse aggregates decreases by 37%–50% compared to conventional concrete; and decreases by 28%–46% compared to uncompressed rubber concrete. When using conventional recycled aggregate, acetic acid-treated recycled aggregate, and lime-carbonated recycled aggregate as substitutes, and adding 10% rubber in CCWRC, the CFP of CCWRC can be reduced by 28%–34%, and 29%–32% compared to conventional concrete and uncompressed rubber concrete, respectively. The research results can provide theoretical and data basis for the evaluation of CFP of concrete production and promote the application of CCWRC and cleaner production in construction industry.

Overcoming Challenges Faced by Quantity Surveying’s Graduates In Adopting Skills For Future Employment: Employer’s Perspective

The evolving nature of the construction industry demands a diverse set of skills and competencies from Quantity Surveying (QS) graduates. The skills of QS graduates align closely with the practice of project management which involved the practice of skills, knowledge, tools, techniques to complete tasks such as cost estimation, contract management and value engineering which important in delivering successful projects. However, the existing research falls short in providing solutions to address the significant gap between the skills possessed by QS graduates and those demanded by the industry resulting in high unemployment and underemployment rates among them. Hence, the aim of this study is to propose solutions for QS graduates to enhance their employment skills in order to meet the needs of the construction industry. The questionnaire survey was distributed among 312 experienced QS professionals working in QS consultancy firms mainly based in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur through cluster sampling technique. The findings were then further analysed by using descriptive statistics and the Relative Important Index (RII). This research revealed that inviting experienced QS professionals as guest lecturers to deliver talks is a highly effective solution to minimize the challenges encountered by QS graduates as it gives fresh insights into the construction industry. The findings from this research provide the basis for HEIs, the construction industry and QS graduates in implementing the proposed solutions to address the challenges and gaps in the skills and competencies of QS graduates. The findings are ought to contribute to the overall enhancement of employability skills among QS graduates particularly in Malaysia and optimize the productivity of construction industry.

Inductive Heating and Quenching of Planetary Shafts for Diesel Engine Starters

High mechanical and temperature cyclic loading of the final products for automotive, transport, construction and agriculture mechanization industry, demands sufficient mechanical properties of all of their components during its exploitation. Majority of the components is made of steel, by different cold forming processes. Their main demanded characteristics are surface wear resistance and fatigue strength under pulsating stress in combination with cyclic temperature loading, which could be achieved only by appropriate heat treatment. The efficiency of the combined inductive heating and water quenching heat treatment and quality of the planetary shafts were analyzed, with the use of thermographic analysis, hardness measurements, and metallographic examination. Combination of inductive heating and water quenching is the most effective heat treatment process of carbon steel planetary shafts for the diesel engine starters. Long life span of carbon steel planetary shafts it’s essential for their economical production. The replacement of starter is expensive from both: money and working time point of view. Surface temperature measurements during the inductive heating process were performed in the industrial environment. The intensity and homogeneity of the planetary shaft surface temperature field was measured by thermographic camera. On the base of theoretical knowledge and measurements, a mathematical model for temperature conditions determination in the shaft during the entire process of heating and quenching was carried out, and used for analyses and optimization of planetary shafts induction hardening process.

Construction Industry Productivity: The Potential of the Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technological innovation devised by intelligent virtual entities. The IoT is progressively enhancing the potential of intelligent construction across diverse application domains. By leveraging internet connectivity, stakeholders within the construction sector can establish communication channels and utilise IoT applications to enhance operational efficiency. The current trajectory within the construction sector is focused on addressing the inefficiencies of construction operations by utilising cutting-edge digital technology. The construction industry should strive to adopt emerging technology to remain competitive and avoid falling behind other industries. Thus, this study aims to investigate how IoT technology could improve productivity in the construction industry. The primary objective of this study is to study the implementation of IoT in the construction industry in Malaysia. Additionally, it seeks to identify the challenges of IoT implementations in Malaysia’s construction sector. The research employed a quantitative research methodology. A questionnaire survey was undertaken to evaluate the level of implementation of IoT within the construction industry, as well as to examine the prevailing practises and challenges associated with the adoption of IoT systems. A total of 29 questionnaires were issued, and 20 respondents (68.97%) representing the director of quantity surveying firms in Sabah participated in the survey. The findings indicate that the information-sharing platform helps the project team to provide prompt responses to queries from the team members and the accessibility of telecommunication tools will aid in viewing updated documents and drawings. The utilisation of IoT technology tools has been found to contribute significantly to the enhancement of productivity inside construction processes. The findings also found that the main challenge in IoT implementations is the lack of a skilled workforce proficient in both construction and IoT technologies. Therefore, for these benefits to be completely realised, adoption and integration challenges must be identified.

Leveraging gamification to enhance productivity and employee engagement in the Nigerian construction industry

PurposeThis article aims to investigate the various applications of gamification practices in the construction industry, with a focus on improving safety and quality, project management, innovation and productivity and workforce development.Design/methodology/approachA comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify several construction areas where gamification can be employed, which helped in formulating a questionnaire survey. The survey was disseminated to construction professionals in the Nigerian construction industry using a convenience sampling technique. The collected data were analyzed using a variety of statistical tools such as percentages, frequencies, mean item scores and exploratory factor analyses. Additionally, cluster analysis was performed to obtain a more comprehensive analysis of these application areas.FindingsFour key clusters of gamification areas of application in the Nigerian construction industry were identified – safety and quality, project management, innovation and efficiency and workforce development. By integrating game elements into these critical areas, construction organizations in Nigeria can enhance worker engagement, increase productivity and improve safety, ultimately leading to better project outcomes.Practical implicationsThe identification and evaluation of the gamification areas of application in the construction industry would help construction organizations and stakeholders make informed decisions regarding the integration of game elements into critical areas such as safety and quality, project management, innovation and efficiency and workforce development.Originality/valueThe study provides valuable information for construction organizations and stakeholders looking to enhance worker engagement, increase productivity and improve safety in their projects through gamification. It also adds to the growing body of research on the use of gamification in various industries and provides a foundation for further studies in this area.

Characterization and photocatalytic performance of cement mortars with incorporation of TiO2 and mineral admixtures.

As the main components of the building envelope, construction materials have a straight relation with air contaminants from anthropogenic origins. Titanium dioxide has been recently applied in construction industry products since its photocatalytic properties can be used for pollutant degradation purposes. This study evaluated the performance of cement-based mortars with the incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticles and mineral admixtures. Six mortar compositions were defined by considering two reference mixes (with and without TiO2 incorporation), two mineral admixtures (bentonite and metakaolin) as partial cement replacement and one waste from ornamental stone processing in two levels of partial substitution of natural sand. Consistency index, density, and entrained air content of mixtures were investigated at fresh state. Compressive strength, water absorption, sorptivity, and micrographs from scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize mortars at hardened state. It was observed that incorporation of TiO2 does not considerably change mortar's properties at fresh and hardened state, despite a denser microstructure and improved interfacial transition zone. In general, the relation between the water-to-cement ratio and porosity on the performances of TiO2-added mortars was shown, which is strongly related to their photocatalytic efficiency. Metakaolin mixtures were more efficient to NO conversion, and high selectivity was observed for the bentonite mortars.

Long term durability assessment of self-compacting concrete made with crushed recycled glass and metakaolin

Sustainable production in construction industry can only be possible through a proper management and conservation of limited natural resources such as fine aggregates. This challenge can be tackled by efficient utilization of discarded waste material such as glass in production of sustainable concrete. This paper investigates the use of crushed recycled glass (CRG) and metakaolin (MK) in development of durable self-compacting concrete (SCC). Four groups of SCC mixtures were prepared using different proportions of CRG (0–50%), while keeping MK concentration equal to 0%, 4%, 8% and 12%. Durability performance of SCC was accessed using water absorption, sorptivity, chloride ion permeability, drying shrinkage, water penetrability under pressure and alkali-silica reaction (ASR) tests. As the CRG content increased, group 4 (having 12 % MK) was most efficient in improving drying shrinkage and pressurized water penetration results; whereas Group 1 (0% MK mixtures) exhibited a minimal change. Raising CRG content in the mix resulted in decrease of water absorption and chloride ion penetration for all groups with group 4 exhibiting maximum reduction. ASR testing revealed that incorporating glass at a higher concentration (40% and 50%) resulted in excessive expansion (more than prescribed limit of 0.1%), which can be suppressed by partially substituting cement with MK. FE-SEM and TGA analysis were carried out to understand the mechanism behind these changes, which revealed that the secondary hydration products formed by addition of MK in concrete can densify the pore structure and refine CRG particle-cement paste interfacial micro-crack width (was evident from FE-SEM micrographs), thus improving the durability of concrete. Indeed, simultaneous incorporation of CRG and MK proved to be advantageous for development of green SCC.

Evaluation of field labor and management productivity in the USA construction industry

PurposeThe health of an economy is heavily dependent on the productivity of the economy's major industries including construction. While most macro-measures of productivity in the USA construction industry indicate a decline, corresponding studies at the individual task level indicate an increase in productivity. Therefore, this paper aims to identify areas where productivity challenges exist and thus provide recommendations for improvement in the construction industry.Design/methodology/approachA model that relates the way construction projects are executed with the sources of data that inform productivity analyses is developed and presented. This effort/value-flow model informs the data analysis that is performed to determine productivity trends for management and field labor. Further analysis for field labor productivity using field data and management productivity was separately conducted. Management productivity was particularly difficult to gauge, resulting in the use of surrogate measures.FindingsIt was observed that while both field labor and management productivities at the industry level have been decreasing, the decrease in management productivity was five times that of field labor productivity. A similar trend was observed for management productivity at the project level.Originality/valueThe primary contribution of this paper to the body of knowledge and industry is the introduction of a holistic analysis of USA construction productivity. Recommendations to improve management productivity include the use of technology, especially project management software.

Assessment of Working Environment Factors Influencing Construction Workers' Performance in the Nigerian Construction Industry

The working environment plays a crucial role in determining the performance of employees in the construction industry. Factors such as physical conditions, ergonomics, and the social and cultural atmosphere significantly impact how well employees carry out their tasks. Unfortunately, these factors have been negatively affecting the performance and productivity of the Nigerian construction industry. This study aims to assess the working environment factors that influence construction workers' performance in Nigeria. A quantitative research approach was adopted, utilizing a five-point Likert-based questionnaire for data collection. A total of 200 questionnaires were distributed, resulting in 187 valid responses, which is considered adequate for analysis. The results indicate that 11 out of the 16 hypothesized barriers were statistically significant, surpassing the set threshold of 3.5. The most significant factors influencing construction workers' performance in the working environment were found to be disputes among workers, poor weather conditions, equipment failure, changes in orders during unpredictable execution, and major rework due to unforeseen conditions. Through factor analysis, the barriers were categorized into three components: "Physical and Social-related barriers," "Operational-related barriers," and "Welfare-related barriers." This study highlights the paramount importance of working conditions in determining employee performance and recommends the development and implementation of strategies to mitigate working condition challenges in the construction industry. The findings of this study can be applicable to construction industries in other countries with similar characteristics to Nigeria.

Lean and BIM integration benefits construction management practices in New Zealand

PurposeThe construction industry is inefficient in terms of quality products, productivity and performance worldwide, including in Australia and New Zealand. The construction industry is becoming more innovative, competitive and complex; and more participants are involved in construction projects. There are new attempts to implement the Lean construction philosophy, integrated project delivery method and building information modelling (BIM) technology in construction industry to improve productivity and efficiency. This paper aims to identify Lean and BIM integration benefits in construction industry globally and in the New Zealand.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review and case studies were used to identify various benefits of the integrating Lean and BIM in construction industry. It focused on articles published between 1995 and 2021.FindingsLean and BIM benefits identified in the study were documented such as benefits over the traditional approach, critically increased efficiency and visualization, better building process, better building performance, mitigating risk and reduce cost. Also, several factors were identified as major benefits such as improved onsite collaboration, better coordination, improve onsite communication, increase productivity, mitigating risk, reducing waste and reduced cost. The study showed integrating Lean and BIM in construction management practice will help reduce several challenges which affect expected goals and customer anticipation. The research outcome ultimately will assist different stakeholders in applying Lean and BIM in construction management practice.Originality/valueThis study practically focused on using the integration of BIM and Lean principles to improve the construction industry productivity and performance.

Measuring Comprehensive Production Efficiency of the Chinese Construction Industry: A Bootstrap-DEA-Malmquist Approach

Production efficiency is a critical research topic in the field of construction economics and management. It reflects the developmental potential and competitiveness of the economy or an economic system. An objective and reasonable assessment framework of the production efficiency in the construction industry is essential to promote the industry’s high-quality development. This study aims to propose a scientific and holistic framework to examine the production efficiency in the construction industry and to investigate evolution patterns from a macroeconomic perspective. Input and output indicators were identified through the value-added and the fuzzy Delphi methods. In addition, the production efficiency in the construction industry was examined via the bootstrap-DEA and Malmquist exponential decomposition models. A case study in China was conducted at the end of this research. The panel data of 31 provinces from 2010 to 2020 were applied in the case study. The results reveal the following: (1) The bootstrap-DEA model results show that the trends of production efficiency before and after rectification are similar, but the difference is largest at the peak. Moreover, the production efficiency value after correction is evidently lower than that which is obtained by the traditional DEA model. (2) The Malmquist index decomposition results show that the change trend of technical efficiency in the construction industry is contrary to that of the scale efficiency. In addition, the improvement of scale efficiency cannot bring a melioration of management efficiency or the accumulation of production experience. (3) There is no direct correlation between production efficiency and economic development. High-value areas and median areas are contiguous, and they are mainly distributed in the central and eastern provinces. The findings accurately reflect construction industry productivity, providing practical data for developing policy recommendations for bridging regional construction development gaps.

Knowledge sharing on mobile social networking: motivational drivers and influence on productivity

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the motivational drivers for knowledge sharing (KS) through the application of mobile social networking (MSN) and their influence on employee productivity in the Malaysian construction industry. Design/methodology/approach The data was collected by distributing a self-administered questionnaire among employees working in the construction industry. A total of 250 questionnaires were collected and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. This study used a variety of analysis methodologies including correlation analysis, reliability and validity testing, as well as a structural model in evaluating the relationships between KS, motivational factors and influence on productivity. Findings The empirical results of this study reveal that utilitarian motivation is positively related to internal and external KS. Similarly, internal and external KS have a positive influence on productivity, while internal and external hedonic motivation does not show any significant relationship with productivity. Research limitations/implications Considering the paucity of evidence regarding the determinants of KS motivational drives on employee productivity in the Malaysian construction industry, this study enriches the social cognitive theory-based literature on KS. Practical implications This study provides some insights to the players in the construction industry in implementing the most appropriate KS promotion strategies that could potentially influence employee productivity. Organisations in the construction industry that place great emphasis on utilitarian motivation including competency, reward and incentives are more likely to have a better influence on KS and, in turn, positively impact employee productivity. Originality/value This study meaningfully contributes to enhancing the understanding of the motivational drivers for sharing knowledge on MSN and its influence on productivity. The findings of this study potentially assist construction practitioners in developing a holistic blueprint for managing their KS towards improving the overall productivity of their employees.

Investigation on Mechanical Properties of Concrete by Partial Replacement with Silica Fume and Foundry Sand with Construction Demolition Waste

New industries come in existence very rapidly. So, that demands of construction industry increase and waste material production also increases with increase of factories like foundry sand from metal factories, silica fume from silicon or alloy factories and construction demolition waste from old buildings destruction. These materials are used either for land filling or dispose in water which creates environmental issue or pollution. Demand of natural resources (fine and coarse aggregate) also increases due to the increase in demand of construction industry; high demand of natural resource also increases cost of construction. These waste materials are not used anywhere but it can be used again for construction purpose that will result in the economic building construction and reduce the environmental issue. In this paper the experimental work done on concrete with partial replacement of silica fume, construction demolition waste and waste foundry sand for using it in construction purpose and the conclusion comes out that when we replace the construction Demolition waste at 15% strength decrease from the normal concrete mix strength after that at 20% it increase from 15% concrete mix and at 25% its strength comes near the strength of normal concrete mix but workability decreases. So we can use this type of material for road construction. By 10% replacement of silica fume strength increase but after 10% it starts decreasing. By replacement of Waste Foundry Sand strength of concrete mix increase from the normal concrete mix up to 15% replacement of Waste Foundry Sand, increase the strength but after that it start decreasing. When we take the combination of the mixes then it comes out near the normal concrete mix strength. So, we can use these materials where we need low workability concrete like for road purpose.

Spatio-temporal interaction heterogeneity and driving factors of carbon emissions from theconstruction industry in China.

Global warming caused by carbon emissions has become a major issue that countries need to address. As the largest carbon emitter globally, the construction industry is one of the major contributors to carbon emissions in China. It is of significance for carbon reduction to study carbon emission from construction industry. Based on various methods, this study explored the spatio-temporal characteristics of carbon emissions and the driving factors of construction industry. This study found, in 2007, 2010, and 2012, carbon emissions from the construction industry exhibited an increasing trend, and the indirect carbon emissions accounted for approximately 77% of the total carbon emissions overall; in addition, the regional gaps in carbon emissions are widening. The space centers of gravity of direct, indirect, and total carbon emissions showed similar rotations in the counterclockwise direction and gradually shifted to the northeast direction. Carbon emissions from the construction industry were predominantly influenced by the total population, number of employees in construction industry, labor productivity in construction industry, added value of the construction industry, energy consumption in construction industry in 2007, evolution to the mutual influence of the total population, labor productivity in construction industry, and energy consumption in construction industry in 2012. The finds can make references for the regional sustainable development.

Performance Improvement of Construction Workers to Achieve Better Productivity for Labour-Intensive Works

This paper develops techniques to improve labour productivity in the construction industry and determine the level of labour productivity in the Ghanaian construction industry. The goal of this study was to develop a framework for determining the optimal productivity of construction workers for labour-intensive projects. There were three main objectives of this study: to identify factors that influence construction labour productivity in Ghana, to determine techniques used to improve construction labour productivity, and to develop a comprehensive framework for improving construction labour productivity in Ghana. The study adopted a quantitative research design that used a questionnaire. Since the country has been divided into zones, a stratified sampling technique was used based on the diverse nature of the population. Meanwhile, since the district offices were not all handling road construction projects, a purposive sampling technique was used to select 40 districts that were involved in road construction projects. A total of 560 respondents were sampled for the study. The data obtained from the study were analysed and are presented in tables and diagrams. The following factors played a significant role: the age of beneficiaries, the knowledge of beneficiaries, compliance with safety regulations, and the motivation of beneficiaries. Growing a project’s beneficiary base has been observed by many sites to be associated with a decrease in overall labour productivity (due to the overcrowding of workers). Recruiting new members should be conducted cautiously, as the government plans to use this medium to benefit the impoverished in the region. Construction workers can use this information to aid in firm decision-making. For planning purposes, this research can also be used as a useful tool for utilizing labour-intensive methods to increase productivity and meet contract deadlines by finishing a task as anticipated.

Productivity Improvement in Malaysian Construction Industry through NORMs Method

This paper evaluates productivity improvement in the Malaysian Oil & Gas Industry through NORMs Method. The hypotheses are that applying this method helps improve productivity, reduce reworks, and improve standard works practices in the industry. The industry of Oil and Gas has been a major contributor to the Malaysian GDP in the decades. The industry can be divided into Upstream and Downstream segments in which Upstream segments are related to the exploration and production of Oil & Gas fields at offshore locations. In contrast, the Downstream segment is referenced to processing and refining the raw Oil & Gas from offshore into finished customer products such as petrol, diesel, and cooking gas. The industries’ ability to sustain a high-risk operation yet delivering high productivity output remains a topic not explored in scholarly studies. The fundamental productivity method to consider and adopt is NORMs, which has consistently helped offshore construction deliver safe, on-time, and within-budget projects. The working hypotheses adopting NORMs methodology improve productivity, reduces reworks, and improves standard work practices will be formulated and tested. The research employed a quantitative method and conducted an online survey, and the data were statistically analysed to validate that NORMs successfully adapted could improve construction industry productivity in general. This research outcome will improve the core deliverables' standards, modernize the Malaysian construction business in general, and align the construction industry towards driving the nation-building productivity towards Malaysia's Shared Prosperity Vision 2030. 40 out of 60 responded to an exploratory survey that this thesis identified and confirmed that the NORMs methodology improves productivity, reduces reworks, and improves standard work practices across business models.

Analysis of Labour Productivity in Construction Industry Using Analytical Hierarchy Process and Linear Regression Method

Abstract: Construction is a labour-intensive industry. The project focuses on labour productivity in the construction industry. It covers the construction labour productivity aspects, factors affecting it, comparison between the actual labour outcomes. Regression analysis and analytic hierarchy process was used to develop a model to quantify labour productivity. The aim of this study is to identify the key factors that affect the labour productivity in construction industry. Survey is carried out through questionnaire and distributed to respondents who work at various projects in construction industry and the questionnaires are rated by project managers, experienced engineers and labours using their past experiences. The data are collected and analysed. Using this data the factors affecting labour productivity are identified and ranked. Thereafter, necessary suggestions are given to improve the labour productivity
