A Study of the Blended Teaching Model for Oral English under the Production-Oriented Approach

Abstract: With the rapid development of the Internet, the blended teaching model has gradually become more and more popular. In response to this trend, this paper explores how to improve college students oral English skills under the blended teaching mode of online and offline. Moreover, Considering that nowadays many students can only understand knowledge but find it difficult to apply knowledge, this research will be guided by the Production-Oriented Approach to explore new ideas for improving students' productive ability. The study selects the first chapter of Book 2 of Fluent Oral English Course (Second Edition) as the teaching content and adopts a blended teaching method, which includes online pre-class warm-ups, a combination of online and offline teaching during class, and online homework submission after class. To be mentioned, the teaching process is structured around the principles of motivation, enabling, and assessment. It is hoped that this research will provide valuable references for future studies on the blended teaching model guided by the Production-Oriented Approach and offer inspiration for enhancing oral English instruction.

Cr6+ Loaded Lewis Acidic Sn‐Beta Zeolites as Reusable Catalysts for Selective Production of Light Olefins via Polyolefin Cracking

AbstractCatalysts for the selective recovery of light olefins from polyolefins should be developed to save limited fossil resources. It is previously revealed that Brønsted acid‐free Sn‐Beta zeolites selectively produced light olefins from polyolefin cracking. Brønsted acid sites ionize olefins by protonation and the generated carbenium ions are converted into other hydrocarbons via various reactions, thereby the elimination of their effects led to the improvement of light olefin production ability. However, the deactivation of zeolites by coke deposition is a critical problem for industrialization. Inhibition of coking deactivation is previously achieved by doping Cr6+ species connected to silanol groups in zeolites. This work aimed to inhibit coke deposition and realize selective and continuous production of light olefins through repetitive polyolefin catalytic cracking. Sn‐Beta zeolites are prepared with various crystallinity by changing the feed fluoride ions content in their synthesis and found that their activity on low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) cracking strongly depended on the feed F/Si ratios, implying the active sites for polyolefin cracking are Lewis acidic open‐Sn sites. Moreover, Cr6+‐doped Sn‐Beta zeolites showed over 45% light olefin yields even in the third LDPE cracking test, although excess Cr adding led to reduce the catalytic activity of Sn‐Beta zeolites.

Neural stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles purified by monolith chromatography retain stimulatory effect on in vitro scratch assay.

BackgroundExtracellular vesicles (EVs) have gained traction as potential cell-free therapeutic candidates. Development of purification methods that are scalable and robust is a major focus of EV research. Yet, there is still little in the literature which evaluates purification methods against potency of the EV product. AimsIn the present study, we examine two monolith chromatography methods with a focus on assessing the ability of purified EVs to retain stimulatory effects on firbroblasts to connect scalable purification methods with product outputs. MethodsWe characterised EVs recovered from CTX0E03 (CTX) neural stem cell-conditioned medium in terms of biomarker distribution, functional capacity, and purity. We evaluated the ability of EVs to promote wound closure in an in vitro scratch assay prior to, and following two monolith chromatography steps (anion exchange, and hydrophobic interaction) to determine whether these options may better serve EV bioprocessing. ResultsEVs from CTX cells were successful in initiating wound repair on a fibroblast scratch assay over 72 hours with a single 20μg dose. EV preparations presented the markers CD9, CD81, CD63, but also contained culture albumin and DNA as process impurities. EVs recovered by tangential flow filtration could be successfully purified further by both monolith chromatography steps. Post-monolith EV stimulation was conserved. ConclusionThe results indicate that monolith chromatography is a viable purification method for EVs derived from cell culture that doesn't detract from the product's ability to stimulate fibroblasts, suggesting that product functionality is conserved. Further work is needed in developing suitable downstream processes and analytics to achieve clinically relevant purities for injectable biologics.

Bioremediation of soils contaminated with nicosulfuron by the bacterial complex ES58

Nicosulfuron residues in soil can be harmful to the environment. In this study, acid-producing Klebsiella oxytoca ES5 and Klebsiella grimontii ES8 were isolated to construct the ES58 bacterial complex. The culture medium was optimized using response surface methodology, nicosulfuron degradation by ES58 reached 97.21% in 96h. The optimal degradation conditions were: temperature: 25℃, pH 6, initial nicosulfuron concentration: 50mgL-1 and inoculum volume: 2%. The two individual strains and the bacterial complex were tested for the ability of nitrogen fixation, phosphorus solubilization, potassium decomposition and iron carrier production. The results revealed that both strains and the bacterial complex had the ability to promote the growth, with bacterial complex being more capable than the two individual bacterial strains. After 28 d of bioremediation of nicosulfuron-contaminated soil by ES58, degradation rate of nicosulfuron was 90.84% in the unsterilized soil. Furthermore, the remediation process restored the activities of catalase, invertase, dehydrogenase and urease in the soil. The ES5-specific gene budA and ES8-specific gene ldh were detected in the soil at the 28th day. ES58 exhibited different effects on the growth indexes of nicosulfuron-sensitive crops. The study provides a novel strategy for nicosulfuron degradation effective by constructing and utilizing bacterial complex.

Impact of Disease Cyclicity on Quality-of-Life Impairment – A Mixed Method Explanatory Study

BackgroundDisease cyclicity, a composite measure of unpredictable and daily fluctuations of symptoms, strongly predicts quality-of-life (QoL) impairment. ObjectiveTo explore the mechanisms by which cyclicity impacts QoL. Methods1:1 semi-structured interviews were conducted and qualitatively analyzed using grounded theory. Common themes were identified and used to derive a theoretical framework. Results23 adults, (median age 28.5, range 20-72) with a range of chronic inflammatory diseases including eczema, psoriasis and inflammatory arthritis were prospectively recruited. Cyclicity, characterized by unpredictability, uncontrollability, and lability, contributed to a varying productivity and inconsistent ability in performing daily activities. Challenges intensified if external expectations of the patient were inconsistent with their fluctuating ability. Coping abilities, shaped by internal and external factors, moderated the relationship between cyclicity and QoL impairment. LimitationsQualitative interviews assume patients have accurate insights into their own behaviours. The generalizability of findings may be limited in other populations. ConclusionDisease cyclicity defines many inflammatory diseases. This study provides a theoretical framework for understanding and managing the challenges patients with a cyclical condition face.

Comparison of Molecularly Identified Resistant and Susceptible Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense L.) Populations at ALS Gene, in the Absence and Presence of Field Crops

Background/Objectives: Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense) is an erect tetraploid, perennial, C4 grass weed species categorized among the world’s most noxious weeds due to its high competitive ability against crops and the increased number of field-evolved herbicide-resistant populations. The aim of the present study was to assess the growth rate and performance of resistant (R) johnsongrass genotypes hosting Trp574Leu target-site cross-resistance at ALS gene, inhibiting various herbicides, compared to susceptible (S) conspecific weeds, in the absence and presence of corn or sunflower antagonism. Methods: The aboveground biomass, tiller, and rhizome production ability of one S and one R johnsongrass population with a Trp574-Leu substitution conferring cross-resistance to ALS-inhibiting herbicides were compared under non-competitive conditions. Furthermore, the competitive ability of these two johnsongrass populations against corn or sunflower was determined in a target-neighborhood design. Results: The S and R johnsongrass populations displayed similar growth rates concerning aboveground biomass and tiller number, whereas the R population displayed a slightly greater growth rate for rhizome production compared to the S population. Both populations grown with corn produced more aboveground biomass than the ones grown with sunflowers. The aboveground biomass of corn was reduced to a greater extent than sunflower by the presence of both johnsongrass populations, while both crops were affected more by the S than by the R population. Conclusions: Although the inheritance and the genetic background of plant materls were not addressed, the findings of this study indicate clearly that the growth rate and competitive ability of the ALS-resistant johnsongrass population are not associated with the resistance mechanism involved.

Optimal pH condition for hydrogen production using δ-FeOOH under UV irradiation

δ-FeOOH was synthesized to produce hydrogen and its properties were investigated. Although δ-FeOOH has a band gap energy that absorbs sufficient visible light, it cannot produce hydrogen in the visible-light region. However, δ-FeOOH can successfully produce hydrogen under UV. These results indicate that the hydrogen production reaction with δ-FeOOH under UV irradiation is related to the photo-Fenton reaction. The hydrogen production ability was investigated by controlling the pH of the solution, which is an important factor in the photo-Fenton reaction. As the pH of the solution decreased, the amount of hydrogen produced increased. The crystal structures of δ-FeOOH before and after hydrogen production were compared, and it was confirmed that the two crystal structures were identical. This result represents that the photo-Fenton reaction is a circular reaction, and δ-FeOOH can produce hydrogen semi-permanently under UV.

Fusarium verticillioides pigment: production, response surface optimization, gamma irradiation and encapsulation studies

BackgroundNatural pigments are becoming more significant because of the rising cost of raw materials, pollution, and the complexity of synthetic pigments. Compared to synthetic pigments, natural pigments exhibit antimicrobial properties and is less allergic. Pigments from microbial sources could easily be obtained in an inexpensive culture media, produced in high yields, and microbes are capable of producing different colored pigments. Searching for new sources for natural pigments to replace synthetic ones in food applications has become an urgent necessity, but the instability of these compounds is sometimes considered one of the obstacles that reduce their application. Encapsulation provides an ideal solution for natural dye protection through a controlled release strategy. Thus, this study aims at isolation of several soil fungi and subsequent screening their pigment production ability. The chosen pigment-producing fungal strain underwent full identification. The produced pigment was extracted with ethyl acetate and estimated spectrophotometrically. As there is a necessity to obtain a high pigment yield for efficient industrial application, the best production medium was tested, optimum conditions for maximum dye production were also investigated through the response surface methodology, and gamma irradiation was also employed to enhance the fungal productivity. Encapsulation of the produced pigment into chitosan microsphere was tested. The pigment release under different pH conditions was also investigated.ResultsA new strain, Fusarium verticillioides AUMC 15934 was chosen and identified for a violet pigment production process. Out of four different media studied, the tested strain grew well on potato dextrose broth medium. Optimum conditions are initial medium pH 8, 25 °C-incubation temperature, and for 15-day incubation period under shaking state. Moreover, a 400 Gy irradiation dose enhanced the pigment production. Chitosan microsphere loaded by the pigment was successfully prepared and characterized by infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy.ConclusionThis irradiated Fusarium strain provides a more economically favorable source for production of a natural violet dye with an optimum productivity, enhanced yield, and improved properties (such as, enhanced stability, controlled release, and bioaccessibility) by encapsulation with chitosan for efficient application in food industry.

Prognostic value of reticulocyte production ability in patients with chronic heart failure

Abstract Background Anaemia is frequently observed in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF), and many studies have elucidated the association between anaemia and mortality in patients with CHF. The quality of erythropoiesis is an intrinsic aspect of pathophysiology of anaemia, and the ability of reticulocyte production would be one of the pivotal factors in the quality of erythropoiesis. Purpose We sought to investigate whether the reticulocyte production ability is associated with clinical outcomes, and clarify the pathophysiology of reticulocyte production in patients with CHF. Methods We prospectively examined 1,328 symptomatic CHF patients (median age 71 [IQR 65-82] years, mean left ventricular ejection fraction 50 ± 16%, median NT-proBNP 743 [IQR 360–1710] pg/mL) in a multicentre registry with 27 Japanese sites between January 2020 and October 2023. The reticulocyte production ability was evaluated by calculating the reticulocyte production index (RPI) using reticulocyte counts and serum haematocrits. Patients were divided into four groups according to the presence or absence of WHO defined anaemia and the median value of RPI. The primary outcome was a composite of all-cause death and hospitalisation for worsening HF. Results During a median follow-up period of 551 (IQR 321–712) days, the primary outcome occurred in 219 (17%) patients. The group with anaemia and high RPI (≥0.978, the median) showed the highest incidence of the primary outcome among the groups (P < 0.001) (Figure 1). Multivariable regressions showed that higher RPI was independently associated with the higher risk of the primary outcome, even after adjustment for NT-proBNP, sodium, haemoglobin, serum iron, erythropoietin, and MAGGIC risk score (HR 1.41, 95% CI 1.09–1.82). Erythrocyte counts were significantly increased in patients with higher RPI compared to those with lower RPI in the groups without anaemia (P < 0.001)whereas there were no significant differences on erythrocyte counts between the groups with anaemia (P = 0.90) (Figure 2A). Patients with higher RPI had higher log erythropoietin levels compared to those with lower RPI in either anaemic or non-anaemic group (Figure 2B). In addition, serum iron levels and transferrin saturation did not significantly differ between the RPI groups in either anaemic or non-anaemic group (Figures 2C and D). Furthermore, in patients without anaemia, erythrocyte counts positively correlated with RPI (R = 0.27, P < 0.001) whereas there was very weak correlation between erythrocyte counts and RPI in those with anaemia (R = 0.07, P = 0.045). Conclusions Higher RPI was independently associated with worse clinical outcomes, suggesting RPI could be a surrogate marker for risk stratification in patients with CHF, especially in anaemic population. Higher reticulocyte production ability might reflect the impaired maturation of reticulocytes to erythrocytes independent of iron parameters.

Profiling The Growth Conditions and Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPS) Tolerance of Phenoliferia glacialis USM-PSY62

Antarctica is characterized by extreme cold, isolated, and unique ecosystems. Nevertheless, Antarctica harbors diverse species of microorganisms, particularly in its ice-covered lakes and subglacial environments. These microorganisms have special adaptations to extreme cold and low-nutrient conditions. Some extremophiles, like psychrophiles can thrive in these harsh environments. Phenoliferia glacialis USM-PSY62, previously identified as Rhodotorula sp. USM-PSY62 is a psychrophilic yeast isolated from the ice brine of Antarctica. However, there is very little information on this psychrophilic yeast. This study aims to characterize the P. glacialis USM-PSY62 through the identification of the optimum growth parameters in different media (Yeast Peptone Dextrose, YPD & Yeast Malt, YM), temperature (4°C, 15°C, 20°C) and pH (6, 7, 8, 9) as well as their ability in carbon assimilation and extracellular enzyme production. It has an optimal growth in YPD compared to YM broth media. P. glacialis USM-PSY62 grows optimally at 15°C and pH 7.0. This Antarctic yeast enters the stationary phase on day six of incubation under optimum conditions. It appeared mainly as elongated-shape and oval-shaped with budding formation and was found to produce extracellular enzymes such as protease and amylase in the presence of 2% glucose concentration in YM media. P. glacialis USM-PSY62 also can assimilate various types of carbon sources including raffinose, arabinose, and maltose. Interestingly, the psychrophilic yeast presented growth in media supplemented with Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) such as dichlorophenyldichloroethylene (DDE) and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB). These preliminary findings suggest that P. glacialis USM-PSY62 has tremendous potential for bioremediation application in polluted cold regions, as well as deepening our knowledge of its optimal growth conditions.

THE PREVALENCE OF (OMPA, CSUE) GENES AMONG BIOFILM PRODUCER ACINETOBACTER BAUMANNII ISOLATES

Acinetobacter baumannii is a significant public health problem because it is capable of forming biofilms that may be responsible for the survival of this pathogen in the hospital environment. The aim of this study is to determine the role of (OmpA, CsuE) genes in biofilm production among A. baumannii isolates. A total of 100 clinical isolates of bacteria were collected from a different sources. All isolates were identified by biochemical test, specific selective media (CHROMagar) and polymerase chain reaction by detection presence of (blaOXA51) gene. only 60 isolates were diagnosed as A. baumannii, and to determine the biofilm production capacity two different methods were used Congo red agar method(CRA) and Microtiter plate method (MTP). MTP method result showed 85% of isolates were able to form biofilms, on the other hand, 33.33% of isolates had a biofilm production ability by showing bright black colonies on CRA. Conventional PCR was used to detect the presence of (OmpA, CsuE) genes and the result showed the prevalence of both genes in all isolates were 97%(58/60). It also shows a strong correlation between the presence of these genes and biofilm formation.

The Ability of Endophytic Bacteria in Phosphate Solubilization and IAA Production on Chili Plant Growth

Biofertilizer is considered an alternative to chemical fertilizers for enhancing plant productivity while minimizing ecological damage. Endophytic bacteria have the ability to solubilize phosphate and produce IAA (indole acetic acid). The aim of this research is to assess the phosphate solubilization and IAA production abilities of bacterial isolates applied to chili plants. Seven bacterial isolates collection from the Microbiology Laboratory, Universitas Sumatera Utara, were tested. In quantitative tests conducted in vitro, isolates MB10 and MB11 demonstrated the highest phosphate solubilization capabilities, yielding solubilization indices of 16.2 mm and 9.5 mm, respectively. Additionally, the ability of bacterial isolates to produce IAA in vitro was evaluated using calorimetry, revealing that isolates MB8 and MB2 produced the highest concentrations of IAA, measuring 58.58 ppm and 54.64 ppm, respectively. Furthermore, in vivo application involved the inoculation of isolates MB10 and MB11 on chili plants for 30 days. Seed treatment with suspensions of isolates MB10 and MB11 resulted in decreased plant performance compared to the control. These findings indicate that some endophytic bacteria originating from the mangrove root Avicennia marina have potential for producing relatively high levels of secondary metabolites. However, direct application did not significantly enhance plant growth performance.

Optimal algae species inoculation strategy for algal-bacterial granular sludge: Sludge characteristics, performance and microbial community

The algal-bacterial granular sludge (ABGS) system is emerging as a promising technology for future wastewater treatment. This study assessed the impact of different algae species inoculation on granulation, performance, and microbial communities within ABGS systems. The experimental setup included single-species inoculations (Chlorella sp. (R1), Scenedesmus sp. (R2), and Desmodesmus sp. (R3)) and a mixed-species inoculation strategy (R4). Results revealed that R4 achieved the fastest completed granulation process (15 days) with the largest average granule diameter (772.93 μm) and highest physical strength (2.24 ± 0.26%) in the end of the experiment. The relative abundance of extracellular polymeric substances secreting bacteria of R4 maintained high level in whole operation time. Algae assimilation capacity and the abundance of functional bacteria can also influence removal performance. In mature stage, only the average effluent total nitrogen (3.15 ± 2.87 mg/L), total phosphorus (0.37 ± 0.27 mg/L), chemical oxygen demand (25.25 ± 2.98 mg/L) concentration in R4 was lower than that of Grade I discharge standard of municipal wastewater treatment plants in China. The best inorganic carbon utilization and lipid production ability were observed in R4 and R3, respectively. The choice of inoculated algae species was identified as a key factor for bacterial community dynamics. Overall, above results demonstrated that mixed algae species inoculation can be selected as the optimal algae inoculation strategy due to its excellent granulation, performance, and acceptable carbon utilization and lipid production.

Professional Bereavement in Nursing: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis.

Clarify and define the concept of professional bereavement in nursing. Rodgers' evolutionary method was used to identify the attributes, antecedents, and consequences of professional bereavement in nursing. Literature from inception to May 20, 2024, was searched from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, Medline, EBSCO host, Proquest, Ovid, and Cochrane. The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were adopted. The 32 articles included in the study provided data on the concept of professional bereavement in nursing. We propose the concept of professional bereavement in nursing as follows: Professional bereavement in nursing is the experience of a patient or colleague's death in the workplace, influenced by contextual, internal, and external factors. Nurses perceive personal and professional losses, exhibit a multidimensional liminal state, and experience personal impacts (life and worldview) and professional impacts (health-related productivity and professional ability). We developed a preliminary conceptual model of professional bereavement in nursing based on its attributes, antecedents, and consequences. This conceptual model promotes the development of theories related to professional bereavement. This is the first article to clarify and define professional bereavement in nursing. We have clarified the antecedents, attributes, and consequences of professional bereavement, which provides a conceptual framework for understanding professional bereavement. The conceptual framework guides the content of interventions and suggests future professional bereavement interventions from a dialectical perspective. Not applicable.

Characterization of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria and Their Benefits on Soybean Growth

Background: Soybean is the most important legume in the world and its seeds contains 40% protein and 20% oil. In recent years, more attention has been paid to the use of plant growth-promoting (PGP) rhizobacteria as a biofertilizer alternative to chemical fertilizers, which may pose risks to the environment. The rhizobia inoculation of soybean is a sustainable practice to induce atmospheric nitrogen fixation and subsequently improve crop productivity and soil fertility. Methods: In this study, 19 indigenous rhizobia isolated from soybean were tested in vitro for their plant growth-promoting properties (PGPR), while genotypic characterization included sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. Result: Morphological characterisation has shown that all of the isolates were rod-shaped gram negative bacteria. The sequencing has shown that 12 out of 19 isolates belong to the genus Pseudomonas, four of which belong to P. fluorescens species. Isolates which belong to the Pseudomonas genus have shown the highest ability of indole-3-acetic acid synthesis, phosphorous solubilization and along with isolates SGN6, SGN7 and SGS4 (Sphingomonas sanguinis) potassium solubilisation too. All the isolates from Pseudomonas genus as well as those belonging to B. japonicum species have shown the protease synthesis abilities while amylase synthesis abilities was observed only in the isolate SAK2 (P. chlororaphis). The most efficient strains in in vitro biological nitrogen fixation assay belong to Pseudomonas and Rhizobium genera. Most of the isolates were positive to the organic acid production while all of them have shown the ability of the exopolysaccharide production.

Antibiotics Resistance and PGPR Traits of Endophytic Bacteria Isolated in Arid Region of Morocco

This study aimed to characterize endophytic bacteria isolated from legume nodules and roots in the rhizosphere soils of Acacia trees in Morocco’s arid regions. The focus was on identifying bacterial strains with plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) traits and antibiotic resistance, which could enhance legume productivity under various abiotic stresses. Autochthonous legumes were used to harbor the endophytic bacteria, including chickpea (Cicer arietinum), faba bean (Vicia faba), lentil (Lens culinaris), and common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). In a previous study, seventy-two isolates were obtained, and molecular characterization grouped them into twenty-two bacterial isolates. These twenty-two bacterial isolates were then further analyzed for their antibiotic resistance and key PGPR traits, such as phosphate solubilization, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production, and siderophore production. The results revealed that 86.36% of the isolates were resistant to erythromycin, 45.45% to ciprofloxacin, 22.73% to ampicillin-sulbactam, and 9.09% to tetracycline, with ciprofloxacin and tetracycline being the most effective. All isolates produced IAA, with HN51 and PN105 exhibiting the highest production at 6 µg of IAA per mg of protein. The other isolates showed varying levels of IAA production, ranging from moderate to low. Siderophore production, assessed using CAS medium, indicated that the strains PN121, LR142, LNR146, and HR26 exhibited high production, while the rest demonstrated moderate to low capacities. Additionally, 18.2% of the isolates demonstrated phosphate solubilization on YED-P medium, with PR135 and LNR135 being the most efficient, achieving solubilization indices of 2.14 and 2.13 cm, respectively. LR142 and LNR146 showed a moderate solubilization efficiency. Overall, these findings indicate that these isolated endophytic bacteria possess significant potential as biofertilizers, owing to their antibiotic resistance, IAA production, siderophore production, and phosphate solubilization abilities. These characteristics position them as promising candidates for enhancing legume growth under abiotic stress and contributing to sustainable agriculture in arid regions.

Identification and Growth Characteristics of Cellulase Producing Bacteria

This study was envisaged to from fresh cow dung using the Congo red staining method, and screened by measuring their endoglucanase activity (CMC enzyme activity), exoglucanase activity (Cex enzyme activity), and filter paper enzyme activity (FPA enzyme activity). Subsequently, the molecular, morphological characteristics, and growth characteristics were studied. Three strains showed clear transparent circles on the Congo red cellulose medium. LY3 exhibited strong enzyme production ability, with relatively higher enzyme activity than the other two strains. LY3 was found to be a dominant strain that required a temperature of 40℃and pH 7.0 for optimal growth. Activities such as childbirth and breastfeeding can cause severe oxidative stress and inflammatory damage to the mother during early lactation, and can affect animal milk production, and the growth and development of offspring. Trehalose alleviates damage to the body by endowing it with stress resistance. In this study, we used trehalose combined with Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium longum, Bacillus subtilis, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae to explore whether dietary intervention can alleviate oxidative stress and inflammatory damage in early lactation and to evaluate the growth ability, acid production ability, antioxidant ability, non-specific adhesion ability, antibacterial ability, and other parameters to determine the optimal combinations and proportions. The results showed that the synbiotics composed of 2.5% trehalose and 1 × 107 cfu/g of Bifidobacterium longum could regulate the gut microbiota, and promote mammary gland development in dams by reducing progesterone (PROG) content in the blood, increasing prolactin (PRL) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) content, enhancing their antioxidant and immune abilities, and effectively increasing the weight and lactation of early lactating dams. In addition, it can also affect the growth of offspring and the development of the intestinal barrier. These results indicate that trehalose synbiotics have great potential in alleviating oxidative stress and inflammatory damage in early lactation.

Valorization of Strawberry Juice Production Wastewater: Possibilities for Polyphenols Recovery and Plant Biostimulant Production.

Fruit juice production is one of the most important branches of the food and beverage industry, considering both the market size and demand. It is also one of the largest generators of industrial wastewater, considering the large consumption of fresh water during fruit processing. Hence, the appropriate treatment strategies are of the utmost importance to minimize the environmental footprint of food industry effluents. This study aimed to investigate the valorization routes for strawberry juice production wastewater (SJPW), both in terms of nutrient recovery and a circular approach to its utilization as a medium for plant biostimulant production. The results show a low antioxidant capacity and low content of polyphenols in SJPW; however, promising results were obtained for the in vitro seed germination and tomato growth promotion when investigating a biostimulant based on Bacillus sp. BioSol021, which was cultivated using SJPW in a lab-scale bioreactor, with root and shoot length improvements of approximately 30% and 25%, respectively, compared to the control samples. The plant growth promotion (PGP) traits indicated the ability of IAA production, in a concentration of 8.55 ± 0.05 mg/L, and the enzymatic activity was evaluated as through the enzymatic activity index (EAI), achieving the following: 2.26 ± 0.04 for cellulolytic activity, 2.49 ± 0.08 for hemicellulolytic activity, 2.91 ± 0.16 for pectinolytic activity, and 1.05 ± 0.00 for proteolytic activity. This study opens a new chapter of possibilities for the development of techno-economically viable circular bioprocess solutions aimed at obtaining value-added microbial products for sustainable agriculture based on the valorization of food industry effluents thus contributing to more sustainable food production at both the agricultural and industrial levels.
