Penyuluhan Optimalisasi Drainase Pedesaan Sebagai Langkah Maju Menuju Lingkungan Yang Lebih Baik

Plosasari village, located in the Puri Sub-district, Mojokerto regency, Jawa Timur, deals with a severe communal drainage system problem, including erosion and environmental pollution. This community service aims to provide counselling on village drainage optimization as a step towards a better environment. The methodology to realize this service starts with a preliminary survey to investigate the existing condition of the drainage channel, preparation of presentation material based on literature review and previous survey, and finally, the implementation of the seminar in the village hall. The counselling results show that people's knowledge about the importance of drainage increased, and practical solutions to tackle common drainage problems were successfully formulated, including good drainage infrastructure planning, integrated waste management, and smart technology. Some constraints to realize those solutions include the difficulty of gathering community members and the lack of waste disposal facilities. This counselling supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, especially for target number 6th, which is about clean water and sanitation, and target number 11th, which is about sustainable cities and communities, by proposing innovative and collaborative solutions for rainwater management and village drainage system. This counselling result can be implemented in other villages facing similar problems to improve the health and environmental conditions in the community.

Environmental consequences of the creation and discharge of reservoirs in the steppe zone

The article examines the environmental consequences of the construction and operation of reservoirs – the responses of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and their components to changes in the water regime. Such reactions depend on the surrounding landscape and are zonally specific. They are especially pronounced in the steppe zone. The authors systematized the consequences, natural and anthropogenic factors determining their evolution, measures to minimize negative environmental consequences that can be traced from the upper reaches of the reservoir to the reservoir – receiver of the river flow, where it is built. In particular, the decrease in bioproductivity and biodiversity caused the problem of reservoir drainage. As a result of lengthy discussions, an opinion has been formed that the descent of small reservoirs, which have lost their importance, as well as orphan ones, is currently environmentally justified. At the same time, it is necessary to carry out special hydro-reclamation and phytomeliorative measures aimed at stabilizing the hydrological and ecological situation.

Proximal Stent Migration of Fully Covered Self-Expandable Metal Stent following Side-by-Side Deployment in the Patient with Klatskin Tumor: A Case Report

Malignant hilar biliary obstruction (MHBO) is a malignant tumor that causes biliary stenosis and bile drainage problems, which can lead to elevated liver enzymes and jaundice. Endoscopic biliary drainage performed to treat MHBO is essential to improve treatment, survival rate, and patients’ quality of life. However, the biliary drainage in MHBO is technically challenging because of its anatomical complexity, and the successful palliation of cholestasis is less frequent in MHBO than in distal biliary obstruction. In this article, we report a case of proximal stent migration of fully covered self-expandable metal stent following side-by-side deployment in the patient with Klatskin tumor. It is expected that it will be of great help if various preventive methods to reduce stent migration are developed in the future.

Design of Automatic Flood Control System in Kulon Progo, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia

The construction of Yogyakarta International Airport has resulted in land use changes and increased the topography in the area by up to 9 m, which has led to potential flooding. A spatial analysis was conducted on the flow direction after the airport's construction, specifically in the West Carik watershed. It was discovered that the flow direction was uncertain and trapped upstream of the airport. A polder system with automation is proposed as a solution to the drainage problem. An automation system is designed for pump operation with the objective of improving efficiency. The system is expected to reduce the volume of water in the polder by reducing human involvement and providing ease in monitoring. The results of hydrological analysis with a 50-year return period flood resulted in a design flood discharge of 11.73 m3/s. The polder has a storage capacity of 63,312 m3, a depth of 4 m, and a surface area of 1.58 ha. It requires a total pump capacity of 8.4 m3/s, consisting of three pump units, with one unit having a capacity of 1.8 m3/s and two units with 3.3 m3/s. One additional pump with a capacity of 3.3 m3/s is also planned as a backup pump. The pump automation system simulation employs an Arduino UNO as the controller, water level sensor, and relay. This system successfully fulfills the desired operational system for the pump. In the actual implementation, a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is required as the controller, with water level sensors, relays, and contactors as inputs and outputs.

Combining biochar with sediment in the treatment for the effectiveness of sulfate and heavy metal Pb reduction of acid mine drainage

The increasing mining activities have led to the problem of acid mine drainage (AMD) pollution. A method that combines biochar treatment as an adsorbent with wetland sediment treatment as a source of sulfate-reducing bacteria is used to address AMD effectively. This research aimed to determine the ability of biochar in combination with wetland sediment treatment to reduce sulfate and heavy metal content in acid mine drainage wastewater. This research was conducted on a laboratory scale in an AMD wastewater treatment reactor with the following treatments of biochar mixed with wetland sediment. Observations included sulfate content, pH, and heavy metal content. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis was also performed on the biochar. SEM observations revealed the presence of small, dense, and irregularly shaped pores on the surface of the biochar. The results on day 30 showed that biochar mixed with wetland sediment was able to reduce sulfate concentration by 74.19% and reduced Pb by 73.79%, compared with treatment sediment only to 64.81% sulfate concentration and reduced Pb by 53.85%, treatment biochar only had reduced sulfate of 46.90% and reduced Pb by 58.67% and control 1.79% sulfate concentration and reduced Pb by 1.87%.

Effect of water wheel configurations on portable air conditioner performance in high-humidity environments: An experimental study

Nowadays, portable air conditioners (PACs) have gained a broad international market with their advantages of easy installation and flexibility. The water wheel is generally used to solve the drainage problem of the PACs in the high-humidity environment. The reasonable configuration of the water wheel can help extend the continuous operation time and improve the performance of the PACs. This study was built upon existing PACs, exploring the impact of water wheel configurations on the performance of PACs in high-humidity environments. The research revealed that among various water wheel configurations, a dual water wheel configuration functioned better than a single one to help solve drainage problem. And the water wheel configuration that sprays water to the highest temperature area of the condenser proved the most effective for condensate removal. The optimal drainage characteristics of this particular water wheel configuration corresponded to the highest Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) observed in the PACs, with the maximum increase of 21.11% compared to other water wheel configurations. Additionally, Due to the effect of condensate, with an increase in relative humidity, there was a simultaneous rise in the EER for all water wheel configurations in high-humidity environments.

APPLICATION OF PERMEABLE ASPHALT PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION IN TRAFFIC AREAS

Lithuania’s total road network consists of more than 84000 km of roads, of which more than 21000 km are national roads. Roads of national importance are managed by the Lithuanian Road Administration. The remaining roads are classified as local roads managed by local governments. Road installation and maintenance often lead to the problem of surface water drainage and accumulation on the road surface. The aim of this study is to identify and propose the most appropriate permeable asphalt pavement construction to solve this problem, taking into account the purpose of the application and the class of pavement structure. The scope of the study identifies three recommended permeable asphalt pavement designs for the installation of DK 0.1-DK 1 pavement structures in ancillary streets, parking and recreation areas where light vehicle traffic with occasional heavy vehicle traffic. It has also been found that in areas of high traffic intensity, it is appropriate to use an alternative to permeable pavements – a permeable pavement design for the shoulder, where the roadway structure is impermeable to water and the shoulders are permeable to water (a permeable pavement structure is installed). The recommended permeable asphalt pavement structures, when properly selected, reduce the risk of flooding on the roadway.

Electrochemical study characterizations of pyrite weathering in simulated acidic soil: Iron transformation, sulfur conversion and environmental implications

Pyrite in natural environments is susceptible to weathering, which results in acid mine drainage (AMD) and heavy metal pollution-related environmental problems. The increase in mining activities has led to a large amount of pyrite entering surroundings, which may aggravate soil acidification and heavy metal pollution. In situ electrochemical techniques were used to investigate the weathering behavior of pyrite in simulated acidic soil solutions, which is conducive to understanding the weathering mechanism and environmental impact. In this study, the polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy reveal that a higher soil solution concentration, temperature and/or acidity accelerate pyrite weathering rate, with an activation energy of 21.21 kJ·mol-1. Further investigations reveal that the pyrite is initially oxidized to initially oxidized to S0 and released Fe(II), the Fe(II) is easily transformed into Fe(III), and part of the Fe species ultimately transforms into goethite γ-FeOOH and hematite α-Fe2O3. The S0 ultimately transform into sulfate, accompanied by the release of hydrogen ions (H+), resulting in serious soil acidification. These results specifically reveal the mechanism of pyrite weathering, especially the process of iron transformation and sulfur conversion, and they also quantitatively identify the pyrite weathering rate and the quantities of heavy metal ions released, providing an experimental basis for the risk assessment of pyrite in acid soils.

A review of small bowel orthotopic bladder plasty techniques after radical cystectomy

In the Russian Federation, the prevalence of bladder cancer is increasing from year to year. Currently, the problem of urine drainage after radical cystectomy is urgent. The most optimal medical, social and psychological rehabilitation in such patients is provided by orthotopic plastic surgery of the bladder. At the same time, it is necessary to use the terminal sections of the ileum. The article presents overview data on the key points of the creation of the neobladder, historical information on the development of techniques for creating a urinary reservoir, various methods of creating neocystis from the ileum. Data on the advantages and disadvantages of certain techniques are presented.

Fuzzy Finite Elements Solution Describing Recession Flow in Unconfined Aquifers

In this work, a novel fuzzy FEM (Finite Elements Method) numerical solution describing the recession flow in unconfined aquifers is proposed. In general, recession flow and drainage problems can be described by the nonlinear Boussinesq equation, while the introduced hydraulic parameters (Conductivity K and Porosity S) present significant uncertainties for various reasons (e.g., spatial distribution, human errors, etc.). Considering the general lack of in situ measurements for these parameters as well as the certain spatial variability that they present in field scales, a fuzzy approach was adopted to include the problem uncertainties and cover the disadvantage of ground truth missing data. The overall problem is encountered with a new approximate fuzzy FEM numerical solution, leading to a system of crisp boundary value problems. To prove the validity and efficiency of the new fuzzy FEM, a comparative analysis between the proposed approach and other well-known and tested approximations was carried out. According to the results, the proposed FEM numerical solution agrees with Karadinumerical method for the crisp case and is in close agreement with the original analytical solution proposed by Boussinesq in 1904 with the absolute reduced error to be 4.6‰. Additionally, the possibility theory is applied, enabling the engineers and designers of irrigation, drainage, and water resources projects to gain knowledge of hydraulic properties (e.g., water level, outflow volume) and make the right decisions for rational and productive engineering studies.

The main problems of the functioning of existing water supply and water distribution systems in Ukraine

The article analyzes the urgent problems of water supply and drainage, separately in wartime conditions. To solve them, a new scientific approach is proposed, the final result of which will be a single method for optimizing the water supply and drainage systems of settlements. Mandatory components of this methodology are proposed: design and construction of duplicate water supply and drainage systems of settlements, organization of installation and arrangement of pump stations as spare independent water supply systems of settlements. Scientific substantiation of alternative scenarios for individual populated points is proposed, of which the most optimal scenario for the sustainable operation of the system in the long term will be recommended to the local self-government body. In addition, it is proposed for settlements to carry out a risk analysis with the filling of forms according to which water supply and drainage enterprises will work.

Design of drainage channel for effective use of land on fully mechanized sugarcane plantations: A case study at Bone Sugarcane Plantation

Abstract Drainage in sugarcane cultivation in high-rainfall areas is of paramount importance because it affects sugarcane plants from planting, maintenance, and production. Poor drainage can damage plants and reduce productivity. This study was conducted at Bone Sugarcane Plantation, which typically has high annual rainfall; thus, drainage is necessary. The existing drainage channel cannot drain all surface runoff quickly and causes problems to sugarcane plants. Therefore, a study was conducted with the aim of designing the shape and size of drainage channels that can drain surface runoff quickly, have a strong structure, allows for an effective use of cultivated land by reducing headland for tractor turning, and maintains appropriate soil moisture. The research began by determining the saturated hydraulic conductivity of the soil using the Falling Head method. Surface runoff discharge was calculated using rational equations to determine the dimensions of the drainage channel. Rainfall intensity was determined from Intensity Duration Frequency curve which was constructed using Manonobe method. The results showed that the saturated hydraulic conductivity of the soil was 3.54 × 10−3 cm/s which is suitable with surface drainage. Rainfall intensity is estimated to be 201.33 mm/hour. The shape and dimensions of the drainage channel are parabolic with the largest width and depth of 1.70 m and 0.90, respectively. This study provides a practical method to solve drainage problems in sugarcane fields that apply full mechanization. In addition, the practical analysis used in this study can be adapted to analyze the design of drainage channel for other plantations or regions with similar constrains.

A novel model for sustainable production scheduling of an open-pit mining complex considering waste encapsulation

This work presents a novel mixed integer programming model for simultaneous optimisation of ore production and waste dumping schedule for an open-pit mining complex. The model maximises net present value and generates an optimal flow of materials from multiple sources (open pits, stockpiles) to destinations (processing streams, stockpiles, waste dumps) within the supply chain of a mining complex. In addition, the proposed model implements sustainable mining practices as it ensures the responsible disposal of potentially acid forming waste. An application of the new simultaneous and the traditional two-step (or sequential) methods confirms that the proposed method derives higher net present value and reflects a distinct advantage in addressing the acid mine drainage problem through encapsulation of potentially acid forming wastes. In addition, the results reveal that the new model requires less waste haulage work leading to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Effect of LULC Changes on Annual Water Yield in the Urban Section of the Chili River, Arequipa, Using the InVEST Model

Arequipa is a semi-desert city located in southern Peru which depends on the Chili River as its only water source. During recent years, this city has increased its number of inhabitants significantly as a result of internal migratory flows and population growth. Because of this, the city has undergone a rapid urbanization process which has increased the urban areas near the river and caused the destruction of agricultural areas, as well as their native vegetation. This change in land use can be quantified through satellite image analysis across many years, but as noted, there are no studies on its impact on water yield (WY) in the urban section of the river. Now, by using the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Compensation (InVEST) model, which allows the WY of the study area to be evaluated in millimeters and cubic meters by introducing a series of variables, such as precipitation, reference evapotranspiration and types of land use classes, among others, it is possible to determine that the WY from the study area was 1,743,414 m3 in 1984 and 1,323,792 m3 in 2022; the urban area is the type of land use with the highest increase with respect to its percentage contribution to the WY, going from 30.43% to 49.62% between 1984 and 2022, respectively. The increase in urban area mitigated the loss of total WY, explained by a higher percentage runoff rate, surface flow and drainage problems in the study area.

Review of The Existing Drainage Channel Development Method (Case Study: Semani Road Environment (Sentosa-Remaja-Ahmad Yani)

The purpose of this review study is to see the effectiveness of the method of implementing primary canals in the Semani environment (Sentosa-Remaja-Ahmad Yani) Management and Development of Drainage Systems that are Directly Connected to Rivers across Regency/City Areas and Provincial Strategic Areas. This condition shows the importance of handling drainage problems. Measurements use mechanical and manual, data collection is carried out in natural settings (natural conditions), primary data sources and data collection techniques involve more participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. From the results of reviews and observations during practical work, I concluded that we can really learn the techniques and conditions for making good drainage. so that the desired results can be maximized. The benefit of this study review is that we know how effective the work of the Semani environmental drainage project (Sentosa-Remaja-Ahmad Yani) is. It is hoped that this will eliminate the problem of flooding in the area

A Brief Discussion on the Landscape Balconies of New Buildings

With the acceleration of urbanization and the improvement of people’s living standards, people have increasingly higher requirements for the living environment, especially in the design of outdoor balconies. ПРОБЛЕМИ РЕСТАВРАЦІЇ СКУЛЬПТУР З РОМАНСЬКОГО ЦЕМЕНТУ В АРХІТЕКТУРІ ЛЬВОВА ДРУГОЇ ПОЛОВИНИ ХІХ – ПОЧАТКУ ХХ СТ.

For the architecture of Lviv II half 19 - the beginning of the 20th century characteristic use of roman cement as a decorative material. Thanks to this, a significant amount of sculptural decor in Lviv during this period was made using roman cement. According to various classifications, architectural decor is architectural, monumental or decorative- monumental sculpture, which in turn is divided into relief and three-dimensional sculpture. Depending on the type of sculpture, the methods of its manufacture, mounting and placement on the facade differ. This affects the state of preservation and the processes of destruction of sculptures. The purpose of the article is to consider the types of sculpture made of roman cement found in the architecture of the 2nd half 19 century - the beginning of the 20th century. To analyze the factors affecting the destruction of sculptures and the possibility of applying preventive measures to stop their destruction. It is necessary to consider the technological features of the restoration of voluminous sculptures made of Roman cement on the facades of buildings and the problems that arise during the work. The article examines the peculiarities of placement of sculptures made of roman cement in the architecture of Lviv. Factors affecting the state of preservation of these sculptures are indicated. Based on the analysis of four restored objects, cartograms of their losses are given, classification of the state of preservation of the sculptures and the generalized technology of their restoration are proposed. The problems of restoration of sculptures made of Roman cement are outlined. To save such sculptures from further destruction, a number of preventive measures are proposed. Taking into account the difference in the preservation of the sculptures, it is possible to single out the main factor of their destruction - the destructive influence of water caused by drainage problems. Therefore, the main task of the preventive protection of sculptures is to inspect the facades for the presence of jamming, in case of their detection, to carry out urgent repair work to eliminate it. It is recommended to conduct a search for roman cement sculptures in the architecture of Lviv, their cataloging and condition monitoring.

Archimedes Screw Pump Efficiency Based on Three Design Parameters using Computational Fluid Dynamics Software – Ansys CFX

Utilization of Archimedes screw pumps as water lifting pumps has become widespread in past decade due to frequent occurrences of floods in Malaysia. The problem of insufficient drainage in various urban areas exacerbates the impact of heavy rainfall, prompting efforts to mitigate this issue with minimal maintenance cost and low impact to the environment. Thus, this study is aiming to study the design parameters of screw pump to obtain the optimal efficiency of the Archimedes screw pump specifically for flood mitigation in Malaysia. The main design parameters affecting pump’s efficiency are rotor profile, pitch length, length of the pump, rotational speed, inclination angle, and material selection. However, only three design parameters were considered in the study, that are the angle of inclination, the number of blades, and the angular velocity of the rotating pump. These three design parameters are selected as many previous findings focusing on varying angle of inclination with number of blades with constant rotational speed. Thus, this study will find the highest efficiency when these three design parameters are integrated with variation of rotational speeds at 25, 30 and 40 RPM. Basically, screw pump is designed using SOLIDWORKS and simulations with specific boundary conditions are conducted using the ANSYS-CFX software, which utilizes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques. These boundary conditions are based on previous study by Rosly et al in 2016. The inlet flow rate of 0.002 m3/s and diameter of the screw pump are constant while the other three main parameters are varying within the acceptable ranges which are reported from prior studies. The outcomes found that the highest torque is generated by a single rotating blade at 5.65 Nm which rotates at 30 RPM at 30° angle of inclination. Meanwhile, the highest efficiency of 24.04% is obtained with a single rotating blade at 40 RPM with 20° angle of inclination. Based on the findings, it is concluded that these three main design parameters of screw pump may not be sufficient to obtain the optimal efficiency for the specific boundary conditions used in the simulation study. Thus, several combinations of design parameters should be considered in the future to increase the screw pump’s efficiency.

The management of power supply security of mine water pumping station

Purpose: Growing global warming increases the threat of energy supply security in the form of the “blackout” phenomenon. Pumping stations pump out approximately 100 million m3 of water annually (data from 2023). Discontinuation of mine water pumping would expose neighbouring mines and lower-lying areas to flooding. Design/methodology/approach: For the designed database of functional scenarios of the mine water pumping station, the optimal variant was selected based on economic and ecological criteria as well as the energy security criterion. Findings: The research analyzed five technically feasible variants of modernization of mine water pumping stations. Each variant is characterized by a different degree of security of energy supply and a different level of meeting energy demand. Research limitations/implications: All variants of modernization of the pumping station provide for the production of electricity for own needs. All investment attractiveness factors should be taken into account while making investment decisions. It is up to the decision-maker to make the final multi-criteria decision so as to implement the selected variant. Practical implications: One of the challenge is to ensure security of energy supplies in the event of a sudden energy shortage. Pumping stations have some retention, nevertheless a longer shutdown time could lead to environmental problems. Removing the damage would definitely require large financial expenditures and would take several years. Social implications: The planned project of the energy supply security can have a positive impact on the local community and economy. The projects discussed will create new markets related to "green energy". Originality/value: The aim of the article is to assess the investment relevance of safety projects for power supply to mine water pumping stations. The combination of the problems of drainage of liquidated mines, the use of renewable energy sources and energy storage to improve the security of power supply to pumping stations has not been the subject of scientific research so far. Influence of intensive potato cultivation on the properties of red ferralitic soils in the “Amistad Cubano-Búlgara” CPA

The agricultural sector in Cuba plays an important role for the economy, with a contribution to GDP of around 20%. However, approximately 67% of agricultural land has some agroproductive limiting factors. This situation is aggravated by the implementation of inadequate farming systems and by the lack of knowledge of the measures to be adopted based on the limiting agro-productive factors of the agroecosystems. In the research, the study of the properties of Red Ferralitic soils (Order Oxisol) is carried out in the agroecosystems intensively dedicated to the cultivation of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.), in the CPA “Amistad Cubano-Búlgara”, one of the most important production entity in the Mayabeque province. As a result of the research, evident negative impacts are observed on the quality of the soil due to its intensive use and monoculture. This has caused soil degradation, highlighting the low content of organic matter, potassium and phosphorus, along with the reduced cation exchange capacity. Likewise, compaction and poor drainage problems were identified, which negatively affects the development of the crop. Sustainable management measures and the implementation of agroecological practices are proposed to improve the sustainability of food production in the region and counteract the negative effects of intensive agriculture.
