Generative AI in Improving Personalized Patient Care Plans: Opportunities and Barriers Towards Its Wider Adoption

The main aim of this study is to investigate the opportunities, challenges, and barriers in implementing generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) in personalized patient care plans (PPCPs). This systematic review paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state, potential applications, and opportunities of Gen AI in patient care settings. This review aims to serve as a key resource for various stakeholders such as researchers, medical professionals, and data governance. We adopted the PRISMA review methodology and screened a total of 247 articles. After considering the eligibility and selection criteria, we selected 13 articles published between 2021 and 2024 (inclusive). The selection criteria were based on the inclusion of studies that report on the opportunities and challenges in improving PPCPs using Gen AI. We found that a holistic approach is required involving strategy, communications, integrations, and collaboration between AI developers, healthcare professionals, regulatory bodies, and patients. Developing frameworks that prioritize ethical considerations, patient privacy, and model transparency is crucial for the responsible deployment of Gen AI in healthcare. Balancing these opportunities and challenges requires collaboration between wider stakeholders to create a robust framework that maximizes the benefits of Gen AI in healthcare while addressing the key challenges and barriers such as explainability of the models, validation, regulation, and privacy integration with the existing clinical workflows.

A critical review on heavy metal contamination in aquatic food webs by edible fish species: a special case concerning Bangladesh.

Heavy metals (HMs) are ubiquitous in terrestrial and aquatic environments due to unplanned industrial waste discharge, the release of untreated wastewater, and improper mining activities. In particular, the concentrations of HMs are found to be higher in aquatic environments. As a result, the aquatic biota was heavily affected by HM contamination. This critical review aims to understand the sources and toxicity of HMs in commercial fish species, explore their ecological exchange, and examine the related human health challenges in Bangladesh. A modified PRISMA review technique is used in this paper to analyze the current status and research limitations of HM studies in Bangladesh fish species and their toxicity within aquatic food webs. Briefly, we searched several keywords to explore the research trend of HM concentrations and toxicity in fish species. Furthermore, potential toxicity and risk assessment of HMs through the aquatic food chain in Bangladesh were explored. On the other hand, a cross-tabulation approach was used to process the toxicity findings of HMs. Previous studies indicate that fish species can possess comparatively higher HMs than river water due to ecological exchange factors, including bioaccumulation and biotransformation. This review focuses on Bangladesh, highlighting areas for improvements and the need for further study to achieve a transparent understanding of HM deposition in fish species and the sustainable management of aquatic food chain toxicity.

Food insecurity, associated climate factors and intervention mechanisms: a theoretical and empirical analysis of Ethiopia’s case

Purpose In our world, nearly nine million people die every year from hunger, losing one person to hunger every few seconds. Ethiopia is among the leading countries in the total number of people facing hunger. Several actions have been taken to achieve food security globally and at the household level. However, the problem of food insecurity is still high in many parts of the world. Why are we failing to achieve food security? And where should we start? This study aims to answer these main questions. Design/methodology/approach Relevant quantitative and qualitative data were duly used to describe food insecurity and associated climate factors globally and nationally. For this, PRISMA review methodology was used to help the systematic review. More than 90 relevant empirical and theoretical literature in the field were reviewed in an integrated way with practical evidence from Ethiopia. Governmental technical reports, NGOs reviews and other relevant empirical data referring to Ethiopia are thematically analyzed. Findings The subjectivity, dynamism and complexity of the concept of food security are found to be some of the issues challenging the practice of achieving food security. The unresolved issues in the combination and interaction of the four pillars of food security (food availability, access to food, food utilization and stability) are affecting its measurement. In this study, it is emphasized that food insecurity in rural and urban areas should be treated differently, as food insecurity in rural areas is directly related to food production which depends on rainfall patterns. In rural Ethiopia, rainfall variability was among the main causes of food insecurity. More importantly, it is indicated that rainfall variability does not affect all pillars of food security equally; its effect is more pronounced on food availability and stability aspects. Deconstructing the concept of food security to make it more pragmatic, and understanding the factors behind the rainfall variability should be the starting tasks in achieving food security. Further, even though food aid is preferred to react to transitory food insecurity, focusing on long-lasting preventive measures that address the root causes of the recurring food insecurity in rural areas of Ethiopia would be an effective way of addressing the problem. Practical implications Policy makers and other governmental and humanitarian agencies working on food security can make an evidence-based decision, shape policies and programs if they have clear information about the features of food insecurity, the nature of rainfall variability and critiques of the reacting mechanisms to food insecurity. Shortages of food in some place and food price crises in the other places have been both referring to food insecurity. This makes the understanding of food security situations more difficult to explain and communicate. Originality/value This study primarily clarifies the conceptual complexity surrounding food security as it currently exists. Further, it provides a comprehensive and quantitative description of the state of global to national food security, along with the associated variability of rainfall patterns that are related to it. It also provides a brief overview of the intervention mechanisms for addressing food security, with a specific focus on Ethiopia. This study has set a clear demarcation to assess food security in rural and urban areas.

A Framework for Defining Algorithmic Fairness in the Context of Information Access

ABSTRACTAs technologies powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms increasingly take over personal computing online and public sector domains, they simultaneously raise the promise of an extensively productive and sustainable future, as well as fears of widening inequalities, information and content divide, and a more complex information‐seeking landscape. Thus, the hopes of improved accuracy, efficiency, productivity, reduced human bias in decision‐making, and access to information are fast giving way to a trove of ethical and human rights issues with far‐reaching consequences for accountability, privacy, social justice, equity, inclusion, and informed consent, and public participation in decision‐making. Since no technology is entirely free of bias, this paper identifies algorithmic fairness as a more realistic threshold and goal. Building on findings from a previous PRISMA review of relevant literature, the paper proposes a comprehensive framework for defining algorithmic fairness in the context of information access.

Weighted Blankets as a Sleep Intervention: A Scoping Review.

Sleep disorders are associated with a range of health conditions, with poor sleep often further exacerbating individuals' health, well-being, and ability to participate in daily occupations. Weighted blankets offer a potentially simple nonpharmacological sleep intervention option. To summarize available literature on instrumentation and outcomes associated with overnight use of weighted blankets for therapeutic purpose. A scoping review following the PRISMA review guidelines was conducted. Sources included MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, Embase, and Google. Included studies reported on overnight use of weighted blankets. Critical appraisal of studies was conducted with standardized tools. Eighteen studies met the inclusion criteria. Positive outcomes were reported for adults, including improved sleep, reduction in medication use, and improved mood. Sleep outcomes were mixed for children and adolescents but included improved occupational performance. Methodological quality of included studies regarding effectiveness was variable. Ten studies included details of the intervention, whereas only one study reported on implementation. No specific guidelines for use were included. Weighted blankets are used as a sleep intervention for individuals across the life span experiencing a range of health conditions. Currently, there is more evidence of effectiveness with adults, although parents are favorable regarding weighted blanket use for children. Implementation and recommendation of weighted blankets are typically led by occupational therapists, with knowledge of the intervention facilitating use. This review provides information to inform occupational therapists' clinical decision-making and continued implementation of weighted blankets for individuals with sleep problems. Plain-Language Summary: This scoping review summarizes what is known about the use of weighted blankets as a sleep intervention for people of all ages. There is more evidence for overnight use of weighted blankets for adults, with improvements reported in sleep, mood, medication use, and pain. Although there is little evidence of improvement in sleep for children, some children show improvement in everyday functioning, and parents report positive outcomes from overnight use of weighted blankets. These findings suggest that occupational therapists should consider offering or recommending weighted blankets as a sleep intervention option for people of all ages, alongside consideration of individuals' preferences. Development of practice guidelines that incorporate current research findings is urgently needed to support occupational therapists' use of weighted blankets.

Judging Student Teacher Effectiveness: A Systematic Review of Literature

ABSTRACT This paper reports on a systematic literature review to understand better methodologies and data collection tools used to judge student teaching effectiveness, ways in which validity and reliability are considered, the processes involved in assessing new teaching effectiveness within teacher education programmes, and how evaluation and results are used to judge readiness to teach. The accurate and consistent judgement of teaching competence during and at completion of preparation continues to be an area of increasing interest and concern. The PRISMA review process identified 45 key papers. An in-depth analysis underscored several crucial factors, such as the challenge of ensuring the reliability of judgements within dynamic educational environments and the need for broader understanding and applications of reliability and dependability when making judgements. The findings of this systematic literature review hold implications that merit consideration by teacher education programmes for processes to judge teaching effectiveness. The analysis also highlighted the intricacies inherent in evaluating teaching effectiveness, alongside ongoing discourse regarding the criteria and measures for judging competence of student teachers.

El derecho informático y la influencia en los sistemas de información: un análisis bibliográfico bajo la perspectiva jurídica y tecnológica en Ecuador

This research focused on computer law and information systems in Ecuador. The aim was to analyze the legal and technological perspectives of computer laws and their influence on information systems in the Ecuadorian context. A PRISMA review protocol was established to obtain the bibliography, and advanced techniques such as Word2Vec and cosine similarity analyses were applied to two different linguistic corpora (Spanish and English). Hierarchical dendrograms provided a visual representation, highlighting groups of articles and the complexity of the relationship between computer law and information systems. The comparison between the corpora showed similarities and differences, such as the more marked connection between two of the articles in the Spanish corpus. The study revealed a significant connection between computer law and information systems, underscoring common themes such as cybercrime, data protection, and intellectual property. Links supported by Ecuadorian legislation were identified in areas such as software protection and e-commerce. However, the need to effectively implement the laws and broader international cooperation to address challenges such as cybercrime is emphasized. The study demonstrated disparities and connections between Ecuador's computer law and information systems. The need to adopt an interdisciplinary approach for future research is underlined.

Enhancing watershed management in developing countries: insights from Ethiopia

Natural resource degradation poses a major challenge to the sustainable livelihoods of farmers in developing countries, hindering progress toward achieving sustainable rural development. Watershed development and management practices (WDMPs) are powerful tools for enhancing sustainable rural development in developing countries. These practices have been shown to significantly improve livelihoods and food security. This research examined how WDM programs help achieve sustainable development in rural areas, focusing on examples from Ethiopia. This study used a systematic literature review (SLR) approach following a PRISMA review protocol. The research question was formulated using the CIMO (context, intervention, mechanisms, and outcomes) approach: “Does the watershed development and management (WDM) initiative lead to sustainable rural livelihoods?” Considering this research question, the findings indicated that WDM contributes to the socioeconomic and environmental sustainability of rural communities. It does this by enhancing households’ livelihood in terms of income generation, employment opportunities, agricultural productivity, and improvements in social services and infrastructure, as evidenced by numerous studies, thereby leading to better livelihoods and food security. This research also emphasizes the importance of community participation and supportive policies and legal frameworks for successful WDM. Overall, the systematic literature review highlights the potential of WDMPs in promoting sustainable rural development in developing countries such as Ethiopia while also highlighting the need for a supportive policy and institutional environment.

Interplay of Family Dynamics and School Engagement in Self-Harm Adolescent: A Rapid Literature Review

Little research has explored the synergistic links between the home and school environments of adolescent self-harm, the purpose of this PRISMA review is to provide an overview of the mechanisms by which the home and school environments influence adolescent self-harm behaviors, as well as how the two interact to influence adolescent mental health. The researcher published the study in PubMed and Web of Science databases was systematically searched for family environment and school involvement in adolescent self-harm, and a total of 40 studies met specific inclusion criteria. The study found that family environment and family cohesion and adaptability affect adolescents’ emotional coping skills, which in turn affects adolescents’ emotional engagement, behavioral engagement, and cognitive engagement at school. The school environment also counteracts adolescents’ mental health, acting as a moderator to some extent. There is still a gap in research on family–school interactions, and future research on this topic is needed to provide effective prevention strategies for adolescents’ self-harm behaviors.

What do Street Children Need in the Shelter Home: A Narrative Review Study?

Issues with street children, particularly in developing countries, seem to be alarming. Many countries reported increasing numbers. The aim of this research is to explore the experience support of street children in the shelter home, the question on how the experience of these street children when they are being placed in the shelter homes, and what the type of support is given to them? A comprehensive search of relevant databases from 2010 to August 2021 with critical key search focuses on the “street children's welfare" or "type support" and "experiences street children in various countries." Furthermore, the investigation of relevant databases yielded 313 hits, finally, 12 papers are suitable for the review with utilized the PRISMA review method in the process. This review has results support for street children, including theme; physiological support, phycological support, social support, and health care support. To conclude, street children have specific support needs; future program initiatives need to be developed that respond to street children's needs.

Assessing Criterion A of the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders: The Potential of Performance-Based Personality Measures.

The conceptualization of personality disorder has been refined through recent nosological advances introduced in the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD). These advances locate self and interpersonal (dys)function at the core of personality pathology. Self-report personality assessment instruments have demonstrated promise in the assessment of Criterion A domains. However, research highlighting the utility of performance-based personality assessment instruments has been largely absent in these advances, despite acknowledgment of their potential. We adhered to PRISMA review guidelines to survey and assess the potential relevance and utility of select performance-based personality instruments in assessing Criterion A domains of the AMPD. We conclude that performance-based personality measures are uniquely positioned to assess maladaptive self- and interpersonal functioning and may address some limitations of self-report measures. Toward this end, we propose a working model that provides ranges of test scores that correspond to the 5-point scale of the Criterion A domains of the AMPD.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to provide an organizing lens for viewing the distinct contributions to knowledge production from those research communities addressing the impact of competitive strategy on company performance in general, and the influence of cost leadership and differentiation strategy on organizational performance in detail.Design/methodology/approachThe research methodology was based on the PRISMA review, and thematic analysis based on an iterative process of open coding was analyzed and then the sample was analyzed by illustrating the research title, objectives, method, data analysis, sample size, variables and country.FindingsThe main factor that influenced the competitive strategy is strategic growth; strategic growth has a significant influence on competitive strategy. Furthermore, competitive strategy will boost firm network, performance measurement and organization behavior. In the same way, the internal goal factor will enhance organizational effectiveness. Also, a differentiation strategy will support management practice factors, strategic positions, product price, product characteristics and company performance.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature by identifying a framework of competitive strategy factors, company performance factors, cost leadership strategy factors, differentiation strategy factors and competitive strategy with global market factors. This study provides a complete picture and description of the resulting body knowledge in competitive strategy and organizational performance.

A Review on the Usability, Flexibility, Affinity, and Affordability of Virtual Technology for Rehabilitation Training of Upper Limb Amputees.

(1) Background: Prosthetic rehabilitation is essential for upper limb amputees to regain their ability to work. However, the abandonment rate of prosthetics is higher than 50% due to the high cost of rehabilitation. Virtual technology shows potential for improving the availability and cost-effectiveness of prosthetic rehabilitation. This article systematically reviews the application of virtual technology for the prosthetic rehabilitation of upper limb amputees. (2) Methods: We followed PRISMA review guidance, STROBE, and CASP to evaluate the included articles. Finally, 17 articles were screened from 22,609 articles. (3) Results: This study reviews the possible benefits of using virtual technology from four aspects: usability, flexibility, psychological affinity, and long-term affordability. Three significant challenges are also discussed: realism, closed-loop control, and multi-modality integration. (4) Conclusions: Virtual technology allows for flexible and configurable control rehabilitation, both during hospital admissions and after discharge, at a relatively low cost. The technology shows promise in addressing the critical barrier of current prosthetic training issues, potentially improving the practical availability of prosthesis techniques for upper limb amputees.

Pedagogical Design Considerations for Mobile Augmented Reality Serious Games (MARSGs): A Literature Review

As technology advances, conceptualizations of effective strategies for teaching and learning shift. Due in part to their facilitation of unique affordances for learning, mobile devices, augmented reality, and games are all becoming more prominent elements in learning environments. In this work, we examine mobile augmented reality serious games (MARSGs) as the intersection of these technology-based experiences and to what effect their combination can yield even greater learning outcomes. We present a PRISMA review of 23 papers (from 610) spanning the entire literature timeline from 2002–2023. Among these works, there is wide variability in the realized application of game elements and pedagogical theories underpinning the game experience. For an educational tool to be effective, it must be designed to facilitate learning while anchored by pedagogical theory. Given that most MARSG developers are not pedagogical experts, this review further provides design considerations regarding which game elements might proffer the best of three major pedagogical theories for modern learning (cognitive constructivism, social constructivism, and behaviorism) based on existing applications. We will also briefly touch on radical constructivism and the instructional elements embedded within MARSGs. Lastly, this work offers a synthesis of current MARSG findings and extended future directions for MARSG development.

A Systematic Review on Childhood Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma: An Overlooked Phenomenon in the Health and Research Sector of Bangladesh.

Globally, childhood cancer, particularly non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHLs), is a prevalent concern. However, the difficulty becomes even more distressing in lower-middle-income nations such as Bangladesh. The insufficiency of research, resources, inadequate guidelines, expensive treatment costs, and specialized knowledge exacerbate the challenges associated with the treatment of certain types of cancers.Our investigation looked extensively into the circumstances prevailing in Bangladesh, with the objective of providing a comprehensive overview of the current status and approaches to managing NHL in the country. Through this work, our intention was to illuminate the domains that require immediate focus and assistance. To get insight into the present state of NHL in Bangladesh, our analysis focused on a selection of seven research articles and two case reports published between 2018 and 2023. In order to ensure the integrity and consistency of our review, we conducted a detailed selection procedure, employing the systematic PRISMA review methodology. From a pool of 294 papers, we selected the ones that met our predetermined criteria. These papers were sourced from reputable academic databases, such as Google Scholar and PubMed.The findings of our study indicate a higher prevalence of NHL among children in Bangladesh compared to Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). Additionally, this phenomenon exhibits a higher prevalence among male individuals. Our study revealed that in Bangladesh, there is a lack of a dedicated guideline or research center specifically focused on NHL. Additionally, the number of research centers and research dedicated to cancer treatment as a whole is limited.Our research aims to offer a complete analysis of NHL in the context of Bangladesh, with the intention of offering valuable guidance to healthcare professionals and policymakers. The utilization of our research outcomes has the potential to enhance patient care, facilitate the development of more effective clinical protocols, and promote greater accessibility and affordability of therapies. This has the potential to provide improved cancer care not only in Bangladesh but also in other comparable contexts worldwide.

Moral distress among nurse leaders: A qualitative systematic review.

Moral distress (MD) is well-documented within the nursing literature and occurs when constraints prevent a correct course of action from being implemented. The measured frequency of MD has increased among nurses over recent years, especially since the COVID-19 Pandemic. MD is less understood among nurse leaders than other populations of nurses. A qualitative systematic review was conducted with the aim to synthesize the experiences of MD among nurse leaders. This review involved a search of three databases (Medline, CINAHL, and APA PsychINFO) which resulted in the retrieval of 303 articles. PRISMA review criteria guided authors during the article review and selection process. Following the review, six articles were identified meeting review criteria and quality was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) Checklist for qualitative studies. No ethical review was required for this systematic review. The six studies included in this review originated from the United States, Brazil, Turkey, and Iran. Leadership roles ranged from unit-based leadership to executive leadership. Assigned quality scores based upon CASP criteria ranged from 6 to 9 (moderate to high quality). Three analytical themes emerged from the synthesis: (1) moral distress is consuming; (2) constrained by the system; and (3) adapt to overcome. The unique contributors of MD among nurse leaders include the leadership role itself and challenges navigating moral situations as they arise. The nurse leader perspective should be considered in the development of future MD interventions.

The Making of Responsible Innovation and Technology: An Overview and Framework

In an era in which technological advancements have a profound impact on our cities and societies, it is crucial to ensure that digital technology is not only driven by technological progress with economic goals but that it can also fulfill moral and social responsibilities. Hence, it is needed to advocate for ‘Responsible Innovation and Technology’ (RIT) to ensure cities and societies can harness the potential of technological progress and prosperity while safeguarding the well-being of individuals and communities. This study conducts a PRISMA review to explore and understand RIT concepts and its characteristics. In this study, we emphasize that RIT should deliver acceptable, accessible, trustworthy, and well governed technological outcomes, while ensuring these outcomes are aligned with societal desirability and human values, and should also be responsibly integrated into our cities and societies. The main contribution of this study is to identify and clarify the key characteristics of RIT, which has not been performed in such detail so far. The study, reported in this paper, also broadens the understanding of responsible research and innovation in the technosphere, particularly from a bottom-up perspective. Furthermore, the paper develops an RIT conceptual framework outlining its possible design procedures, which could be used by governments, companies, practitioners, researchers, and other stakeholders as a tool to address the grand challenges that accompany technological and scientific progress. The framework also informs science, technology, and innovation policy.

The role of short food supply chains in advancing the global agenda for sustainable food systems transitions

Food systems are experiencing a unique momentum of transformation guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP). The potential of short food supply chains to contribute to this transition both in urban and rural environments has been broadly acknowledged by policymakers and scientists. Yet no exhaustive evidence exists on their capacity to meet the goals declared. This paper categorises the benefits these chains are reported to have in 69 publications selected via a PRISMA review. It develops an exhaustive inventory of which benefit is connected with which SDG target and recommended action of the Milan Pact. Multidimensional infographics illustrate the associations between these benefits and both sets of global sustainability goals. The 348 benefits collected show disparities in current research on the topic across benefit categories, chain structures and continents. Benefits have been reported for ten SDG targets and nine MUFPP recommended actions. Quantifying externalities of short food supply chains and establishing causal effects for their targeted usage worldwide are aspects barely addressed by scientific inquiry. The insights gained help urban policymakers to understand to what extent the promotion of short food chains can help cities to meet SDG and MUFPP goals.
