Assessment of knowledge, practice and associated factors towards prevention of novel corona virus among clients attending at Debre Tabor General Hospital, Debre Tabor Town, North West Ethiopia, 2020: Institutional based cross-sectional study

Background: Corona virus disease is a highly infectious disease caused by the newly innovated corona virus. An emerging respiratory disease was abbreviated as COVID-19, after it has been first reported in December 2019 in Wuhan city of China. Ethiopia Ministry of health initiated multidisciplinary approach to tackle COVID-19 of which awareness creation is the main. The aim of this study is to assess knowledge, practice and associated factors towards prevention of novel corona virus among clients in Debre Tabor general hospital, Northwest Ethiopia, 2020. Methods: Institution based cross sectional study design was conducted in Debre Tabor General hospital from May 15 to May 30, 2020. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The data were entered into epi data version 4.4 and exported to SPSS window version 25 for analysis. Binary and multivariable logistic regression was fitted. Odds Ratios with 95% Confidence interval and p - value ≤ 0.05 were considered to assert significance. Result: A total of 345 clients were analyzed and the response rate was 96.4%. The mean age was 32.95 with S.D ± 13.18 years. Majority of the respondents were male (75.7%). Among the study participants 54.2% with (95% CI: [49.0, 59.2%]) and 49.0% with (95% CI: [43.5, 53.4%]) have good knowledge and god practice on COVID-19 preventions respectively. Sex AOR: 4.33 (2.06, 9.09), family size AOR: 2.49 (1.01, 6.15 and heard from social media AOR: 2.78 (1.21, 6.39) were significantly associated with knowledge of respondents. Knowledge AOR: 3.11 (1.59, 6.10) was significantly associated with practice of clients. Residency and those heard from TV were significant variables for both. Conclusion and recommendation: In this study the overall knowledge and preventive practices of the respondents were found to be low. Sex, family size, residency and sources of information were associated factors for knowledge. In addition to this knowledge was significant factor for practice. Health education programs aimed at mobilizing and improving COVID-19 related knowledge and practice intend to be strengthened.

Effects of COVID-19 on Climate and Global Warming

Through the columns of your esteemed journal ‘Journal of Climatology & Weather Forecasting’, I would like to share my views on the frequent climate change and reduced global warming due to the pandemic situation. The frightful lockdowns for the prevention of novel corona virus proved not only helpful in controlling the virus but also resulted in reduced global warming that ultimately leads to rapid climate change. In just few months everyone can notice the sudden change in the environment, reduced pollution and improved quality of air and water bodies as well. Few months back it seems impossible to control the rapidly increase pollution but due to the frequent shut down of the human activities the nature is blooming again and also the ozone layer is healing. The sky is clearer, river waste is alleviated. Due to this pandemic, industrial work/manufacturing of products is reduced and therefore no more waste is disposed off in the rivers and CO2 emission is reduced. In India, people shared pictures of the Himalayas that are concealed by the smog. To track and understand the sudden climate change in the environment, satellites and sensors that are previously used became essential to monitor the climate change. Everyday human activities create infinite vibrations/movements in the ground. At present, reduction in the movements has been observed using seismometers close to or inside urban areas. The less traffic congestion also proved helpful in reducing the CO2 emission. Global cities including New York, Delhi and many others, during the lockdown, experienced reduction of 25% to 60% fine particulate matter which is known as PM2.5, according to IQAir. In Los Angeles, as per the World Health Organization’s air quality guidelines, there is longest stretch of clean air recorded. The need of the current scenario is to maintain the control over the pollution and increasing temperature and more efforts are required than the ones it took to bring the globe to a temporary cease in this pandemic situation. Industrial sector will have to be sustainable and make green creative plans that would be economic and ecofriendly. Governments were spending a lot to control the disastrous effects of the increasing pollution and global warming. None of the policy yet worked, but the sudden lockdown and prohibition on human activities due to corona virus make it happen and the mother nature is blooming again. During this corona virus crisis, the earth healed itself but now it is necessary for human beings to adopt a new life style and work on sustainable development to maintain the planet. Otherwise, the consequences of the rapidly increasing pollution and global warming will be dreadful that will result in sudden climate change, irregular monsoon events, thunderstorms, earthquakes, landslides, floods and other natural disasters. Undoubtedly, novel corona virus is fatal for human life especially those having weak immune system but if no serious measures would be taken to control the rapidly increasing pollution and global warming then the situation would be more horrible and dreadful and the survival becomes back breaking.

A Rapid Advice Guideline for the Prevention of Novel Coronavirus Through Nutritional Intervention.

Hence, there is a critical need to discover alternative techniques to cope with the current scenario.Recent FindingsThis review conducted an online search for prevention of coronavirus infection with the help of nutritional interventions. It has been observed that the effect of the virus is mostly on the individual with low immunity, individual affected with diseases like diabetes, and individual using any immune-suppressed drug or having past history of major surgeries or severe medical conditions.SummaryTherefore, consuming foods which boost immunity helps in preventing respiratory-related disorder or suppressing diseases-related problems, which could be helpful in controlling the spread of this virus. In conclusion, it has been suggested that before the beginning of generalised treatments and interventions in each infected patient, nutritional status should be evaluated, as it can help in creating a specific nutrition intervention for the infected individual.

Covid 19 and homeopathy medicine: A brief review

The newest member of the coronavirus family (2019- nCoV) has been recently identified that results in acute and severe respiratory syndrome in humans. The first infected patient who had clinical manifestations such as fever, cough, and dyspnea was reported on 12 December 2019 in Wuhan, China. In-vitro studies have shown that chloroquine is effective against several viruses, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV). Multiple mechanisms of action have been identified for chloroquine that disrupt the early stage of coronavirus replication. The use of homeopathy for epidemic diseases dates back to the time of Hahnemann, who recommended Belladonna for scarlet fever. It is interesting to note that homeopathy was invented in the same year as Jenner first practiced vaccination (1796) and that Hahnemann strongly favored vaccination. The AYUSH ministry issued a health advisory and recommended that homeopathic and unani medicines could be effective in the prevention of novel coronavirus (nCoV) infections.
