Sustainability of Historical Buildings Through Reuse Projects: A Case Study of the Kadıköy District in Istanbul

This research focuses on the preservation and adaptive reuse of historic structures. It emphasizes the importance of conserving cultural and historical heritage, suggesting that assigning new functions to these buildings contributes to sustainability. The study progresses through successful examples of adaptive reuse of historical buildings acquired by the Kadıköy Municipality, addressing spatial, cultural, and legal dimensions. It underscores the importance of preserving the architectural characteristics, spatial organizations, and surroundings of these buildings when assigning new functions. The research advocates for minimal intervention principles in adaptive reuse projects, ensuring the historical and cultural values of the buildings are considered. Furthermore, it highlights that these projects should not only focus on physical restoration but also faster social and cultural interaction. Adaptive reuse projects in the Kadıköy region have been developed in line with these principles, creating active and functional spaces that respond to community needs. These projects successfully demonstrate how the preservation and active use of historical buildings can contribute to regional and cultural sustainability. Finally, the research addresses the challenges encountered in the preservation and adaptive reuse of historical buildings in Turkey, discussing legal, economic, and technical issues, and offers suggestions for effective strategies in this field. The aim is to increase awareness and develop efficient strategies for the preservation of Turkey’s historical structures.

Pollutants and weathering compounds on medieval bricks of historic buildings from Brasov (Transylvania, Romania)

Urban pollution significantly influences historic building preservation via chemical, physical, and biological processes. To plan heritage structure restoration, we must study fired brick mineralogy and its correlation with firing temperature. We must also examine how atmospheric pollutants have affected surface composition over time. This study analyzes medieval bricks from seven medieval buildings in Brașov, Romania. We used physicochemical methods (XRD, SEM-EDS, and FTIR-ATR) to identify brick minerals, estimate firing temperatures, and investigate weathering compounds due to pollutants. Samples show quartz, clay minerals (muscovite, illite, palygorskite/smectite anh., kaolinite anh.), feldspars (microcline, orthoclase, albite, andesine), and carbonates (calcite) (for the bricks estimated to be fired at ∼800 °C); sanidine, gelhenite (for the bricks estimated to be fired at ∼950 °C); anorthite, wollastonite, diopside, spinel, mullite (for the bricks estimated to be fired at ∼1100 °C). Weathering varies by mineralogy, firing temperature, location, and pollutants, including efflorescence (CaCO3), black crust (gypsum, calcite), and organic/bio-organic compounds. Mitigation strategies based on physicochemical studies aim to protect cultural heritage from pollution's adverse effects for future generations. This study is vital globally for preserving cultural heritage, offering insights into mitigating the impact of pollution on historic buildings. It aids in developing universal conservation strategies, ensuring our shared past's longevity and aesthetic value.

Heritage and the Soviet city of the 1980s

The article examines changes in the architects’ and society’s understanding of the role of heritage in the Soviet city and its importance for the formation of the urban environment. It is known that the architecture of the Soviet period went through several turns in its development, determined by the change of State policy in this area. It seemed that urban planning concepts were also changing dramatically. However, with external differences, the deep layers of professional thinking of architects and urban planners changed little; the same problems of urban development and the preservation of historical buildings arose again and again. At the turn of the 1960s and the 1970s and then in the 1980s, there were certain advances in understanding the role of the historical city environment, but the conditions of urban planning in the country practically did not change, which contributed to the reproduction of established stereotypes. The last decade of the Soviet era was characterized by a paradoxical attitude towards heritage, which still largely remained in the post-Soviet period.

Evaluation of Material Characteristics and Structural Dynamic Properties of a Historical Church: The Case of 19th Century Bursa Derekoy Church (Ayia Paraskevi)

Derekoy (Ayia Paraskevi) Church, built by the Orthodox Greeks in Bursa, is one of the prominent monuments built in the 19th century. The structure, which lost its community with the population exchange (1923) between Turkey and Greece, has since then been out of service and a rapid deterioration process has begun. Analysis works are frequently implemented for this purpose and become crucial in Turkey, of which a large part is within the earthquake zone. However, the majority of the studies on the preservation of historical buildings are lacking in detailed material analysis and numerical methods. Conducting a series of material tests and numerical analyses for the structure provides more reliable and qualified interventions since they influence the decisions on the reinforcement and protection methods employed for historical buildings. For this purpose, the material characterizations of the mortar, plaster and stones used in the church were carried out by performing physical, chemical, mechanical, petrographic and mineralogical tests on samples taken from the church. Afterwards, mechanical tests of the walls and vibration tests were conducted to determine the dynamic behavior of the building. Based on the results obtained from the analyses, a series of intervention methods were proposed. It is understood that the flat-jack, shear and vibration tests are vital for determining the real structural behavior of the building. Furthermore, it is recommended that vibration tests are carried out on both the overall structure and individual walls to determine the dynamic behavior of similar structures where only outer walls remain standing.

Correlation Fractal Dimension Analysis Mountainous Traditional Village Settlement Spatial Form –Case Study of Qiandongnan in Guizhou

Objective: A study carried out in the traditional villages of Qiandongnan in Guizhou province, located in China, to portray 409 traditional villages’ spatial distribution and fractal charicteristic, as well as its implications for the preservation of the group of traditional villages. Theoretical framework: From previous research, traditional village quantitative research on spatial area focuses on the statistics of mathematical models and spatial analyses of GIS, which indirectly reflect the complexity of the spatial patterns of traditional villages. Therefore, applying fractal theory to the spatial complexity of villages can provide a relatively objective and direct assessment for studying traditional villages with different formation backgrounds. Method: Data were collected in Google Earth map data and spatial data were obtained, which were synthesized and analyzed using spatial, statistical and mathematics analysis to verify the distribution factors and know about villages’ spatial fractal characteristics. Results and conclusion: The mountain settlements in Qiandongnan are concentrated in Leishan based on the Miao national group and “Liping-Congjiang-Rongjiang” based on the Dong national group. The q values of the explanatory power of each factor for the spatial distribution of traditional villages in the Qiandongnan area are, in descending order, intangible cultural heritage > GDP > distance from roads > height > the proportion of ethnic minorities > urbanization rate > average annual temperature > average annual precipitation > distance to rivers. Research implications: Villages contribute significantly to the enhancement of traditional Chinese culture, especially the preservation of historical buildings and distinctive local cultures. Furthermore, Knowing the factors of traditional village centralized contiguous protection mode and rural planning based on the policy of rural revitalization in China. Originality/value: Collected traditional villages’ distribution data from the official website and marked on the Google Earth map. Spatial analysis distribution of villages and emphasizes the importance of spatial correlation analysis in understanding the relationship between land use and rural population distribution.

Revealing the structural behaviour of Brunelleschi’s Dome with machine learning techniques

The Brunelleschi’s Dome is one of the most iconic symbols of the Renaissance and is among the largest masonry domes ever constructed. Since the late 17th century, first masonry cracks appeared on the Dome, giving the start to a monitoring activity. In modern times, since 1988 a monitoring system comprised of 166 electronic sensors, including deformometers and thermometers, has been in operation, providing a valuable source of real-time data on the monument’s health status. With the deformometers taking measurements at least four times per day, a vast amount of data is now available to explore the potential of the latest Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques in the field of historical-architectural heritage conservation. The objective of this contribution is twofold. Firstly, for the first time ever, we aim to unveil the overall structural behaviour of the Dome as a whole, as well as that of its specific sections (known as webs). We achieve this by evaluating the effectiveness of certain dimensionality reduction techniques on the extensive daily detections generated by the monitoring system, while also accounting for fluctuations in temperature over time. Secondly, we estimate a number of recurrent and convolutional neural network models to verify their capability for medium- and long-term prediction of the structural evolution of the Dome. We believe this contribution is an important step forward in the protection and preservation of historical buildings, showing the utility of machine learning in a context in which these are still little used.

Preservation of historic buildings through virtual architecture

The preservation of historic buildings is a topic that has been explored and developed for many years with the aim of leaving a legacy for future generations. However, due to climate change, the risk of natural disasters that can result in the loss of housing, territory and historical heritage has increased exponentially. Therefore, traditional prevention and mitigation actions are not sufficient to guarantee their protection. In response to this problem, initiatives have emerged in recent years that employ technological advances, such as the virtualization of historic buildings, as a way of preserving them. Although the virtualization of historic buildings is a relatively new methodology, its importance and application are not yet widely known. Therefore, this paper aims to publicize and highlight the importance of this technique, through the analysis of several cases of its application.

The effect of sand on the mechanical characteristics of gypsum-lime mortars for heritage buildings

The endurance and preservation of historical buildings greatly depend on the integration of lime into the mortar used for masonry linings. Therefore, conducting mechanical assessments of existing and restoration mortars is crucial to ensure their compatibility and prevent potential issues. This article emphasizes the role of sand in enhancing the efficiency and resilience of gypsum-lime mortars by examining how it influences on their mechanical properties. The main aim of this research is to provide practical guidance for the sustainable restoration and conservation of historical edifices. The study examines the mechanical attributes of gypsum-lime mortars for restoring historical structures, with a specific focus on evaluating the impact of different sand proportions (10%, 15%, and 20% by gypsum volume). Moreover, the results were scrutinized to comprehend the compositions, structural features, and compressive strength. Among the six mortar blends, the addition of 15% sand was identified as the most effective augmentation to gypsum-lime, demonstrating comparable workability. Furthermore, this proportion exhibited improved compressive and flexural strengths on the seventh day compared to pure gypsum-lime. This highlights the potential economic application and further enhancement of this locally sourced product in various finishing applications. Notably, gypsum-lime mortar infused with 15% sand exhibited optimal structural properties, particularly in terms of compressive strength.

Scan-to-HBIM: automated transformation of point clouds into 3D BIM models for the digitization and preservation of historic buildings

Three-dimensional digital models of historical buildings must seamlessly integrate a wide array of data from diverse sources, including point clouds, alphanumeric information, 2D and 3D representations, BIM, GIS, images, sensor data, and real-time information streams, among other heterogeneous resources. Centralizing and presenting this multifaceted information cohesively is fundamental for fostering a comprehensive understanding and analysis of these historical monuments. In this context, the article introduces an automated process (Scan-to-HBIM) tailored specifically to transform point clouds into threedimensional models within BIM environments. This innovative approach not only enhances the accuracy in representing historic buildings but also significantly amplifies the level of detail (LoD), enabling a more nuanced representation of architectural structures. The article delves into the Scan-to-HBIM process, elucidating its relevance in the broader context of digitization and preservation of historic buildings, with a particular focus on its application to a sample point cloud. Furthermore, it underscores the pivotal advantages of this approach, emphasizing its proficiency in managing diverse datasets, elevating the level of detail, and exploring practical applications in both BIM and GIS realms.

Historical buildings stand as testaments to the rich tapestry of human history, architecture, and culture. The preservation and adaptive reuse of these structures have become crucial endeavors to safeguard heritage while addressing contemporary needs. This paper explores the significance of preservation, strategies employed in adaptive reuse, successful case studies, and the socio-economic and environmental impacts of these efforts. МОЖЛИВОСТІ РЕВІТАЛІЗАЦІЇ ПРОМИСЛОВИХ ТЕРИТОРІЙ МІСТ НА ПРИКЛАДІ ВУЛИЦІ ЗАМКОВОЇ У МІСТІ ЛЬВІВ

Globally, cities have two options for growth: extensive and intensive. The former involves expanding the city's area to accommodate increased development or population. However, this option has significant drawbacks, including longer travel times within the city, loss of arable or recreational land around the city, and the need to construct new infrastructure. As a result, many cities opt for the intensive approach, which maximizes land use efficiency. The topic of revitalization has been under investigation since the mid-20th century, but it is relatively new for Ukraine. As a result, there is a lack of scientific articles that thoroughly explore the subject from all angles. From Ukrainian authors, I want to highlight Hnatiuk L., Melnyk M., Sych O., Levchenko O., Birkentale V. The aim of this article is to examine the global practices of breathing new life into industrial areas. Additionally, it will delve into the history and present state of an industrial area located on Zamkova Street in Lviv. The article seeks to identify the development prospects of the region and provide recommendations and principles for the revitalization of Zamkova Street. We have discovered a few examples of international projects that showcase the importance of experience: KingKros in London, UK, HafenCity in Hamburg, Germany, and Two Kings in Toronto, Canada. As part of our research, we have identified some challenges facing the industrial area on Zamkova Street. Based on our analysis of these challenges and similar projects, we have created a list of principles for revitalization. These include mixed-use buildings, height restrictions, infrastructure development, the idea of a "five-minute city" or "city of short distances," a broad range of housing prices, ample public spaces, new points of attraction, job opportunities close to homes, architecture competitions, preservation of historical buildings, emphasis on pedestrian safety, and the concept of a "sponge city." The issue of industrial areas in Ukrainian cities is complex, but not unique. Many cities have gone through this developmental phase. Fortunately, our cities have an opportunity to draw from successful revitalization experiences. By tailoring these practices to fit each unique situation, we can transform our communities for the better.

ЕКОЛОГІЧНІ ПРИНЦИПИ У ПИТАННЯХ ЗАХИСТУ ТА ЗБЕРЕЖЕННЯ АРХІТЕКТУРНОЇ СПАДЩИНИ

The article examines the actual problem of preservation of architectural heritage on the example of the city of Odesa, and proposes the definition of conditions for their reconstruction and renovation using ecological principles. In addition to determining the value of the monument from the point of view, aesthetic, historical, scientific, its material authenticity, one should not forget the cultural one, which includes social and spiritual values. The problem is that the population of our historical cities is not fully aware of this, not all sections of the population care for the preservation of their architectural heritage, do not actively participate in the processes of reproduction of architectural monuments, preservation of historical buildings, reconstruction, renovation. In order to determine the entire range of issues related to the condition of preservation of historical buildings as part of the sustainable development of the urban environment, such a broad concept as ecological principles should be applied to them. Guided by these principles, it is possible to convey to the population the importance of residents' participation in the restoration and preservation of the historical urban environment. Informing the population about the conditions for preservation and renovation of valuable architectural structures arouses their interest and involvement. A monument that is not used and not integrated into everyday social life ceases to function as a carrier of any social and cultural significance. There is a need to finally determine the environmental principles that can be implemented during reconstruction and restoration, to identify their components to ensure a set of design parameters based on modern international standards and the legislation of Ukraine. Adapting the problems of architectural heritage preservation to the modern needs of citizens, the development of voluntary societies united by heritage preservation programs can be a guarantee of their solution.

Towards collaborative planning: deliberative knowledge utilisation and conflict resolution in urban regeneration in South China

Urban regeneration in post-reform China has become a fertile ground for the transition towards collaborative planning, which serves as a powerful tool for managing conflicts and addressing complex urban challenges. This article aims to delve into the micro-level processes that underpin the emergence of collaborative planning in practical urban regeneration projects in China. By shedding light on these micro-level processes of conflict resolution, we aim to provide a deeper understanding of how collaborative planning is implemented within the Chinese authoritarian context. Deliberative knowledge utilisation is intricately interwoven with the process of problem framing, exerting a significant influence on how conflicts are approached and ultimately resolved. We employ framing analysis as an analytical approach to demonstrate how problem framing is shaped by deliberative knowledge utilisation and is discursively constructed, drawing on empirical studies of the contentious Enning Road case in Guangzhou. Regarding the problem framing related to the legitimacy of demolition and planning, institutional knowledge pertaining to planning leg islation and administrative procedures was intentionally wielded by the media and local residents to challenge the legitimacy of demolition. Concerning the problem framing related to the preservation of historic buildings, local knowledge was actively harnessed and deliberately employed by residents and the media to underscore the historical and cultural significance of the neighbourhood. Regarding problem framing centred on resistance to resettlement and eviction, residents intentionally incorporated institutional knowledge when composing and submitting petition letters. These three lines of problem framing, grounded in deliberative knowledge utilisation, significantly impact power dynamics and facilitate the incremental transition towards collaborative planning, which emerges as a gradual process marked by experimentation and the resolution of conflicts.

CLASSIFICATION OF CONTEMPORARY HOUSING IN THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT

Preservation of historical buildings while accommodating modern housing is a difficult challenge in urban development. The successful integration of contemporary architectural design within the context of historic districts requires careful consideration of various factors. In this article, we present a comprehensive classification scheme for modern housing in historic buildings based on a careful analysis of practical experience and architectural principles. The classification scheme covers eight key features that serve as the main parameters for evaluating and classifying modern housing in a historical context. These features include project quality classes, floor plan, functionality, volume-spatial structure, construction method, furnishing materials, color scheme and approach to harmonization with the historical context. Classification signs are divided into different categories, sometimes into subcategories and cover the relatively maximum load of world experience in the design of modern housing in a historical context. The project quality classes are divided into mass housing and housing of increased comfort. Flooring is defined by three categories: low-rise, medium-rise and multi-story. Different forms of spatial and volumetric structure, which flow from different sections of the design and structure of quarters in the historical districts of the cities, are defined. Furnishing materials are divided into traditional, modern, and combined options. On the basis of historical architecture, coloristic categories are defined, which either repeat the historical colors of the city, or contrast against their background. Also, residential buildings are defined according to functionality, while multi-functional residential buildings are divided into several categories according to various variants of architectural and planning solutions of complexes. The last feature is the main feature in the case of determining the harmonization of modern housing with the historical context and is divided into 5 categories, starting from pseudo-historical design and ending with the contrasting formation of modern architecture.

Predictive control of HVAC by multiple output GRU - CFD integration approach to manage multiple IAQ for commercial heritage building preservation

Excessive and fluctuating indoor air quality (IAQ) leads to destruction of historical buildings. Regenerated commercial historic buildings are generally fitted with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for IAQ improvement. There is a time delay in the HVAC system to control environment within the target range after the settings adjustment because of the time required for air conditioners to cool, heat or exchange fresh air. The lack of timely and effective control of traditional HVAC is insufficient to control IAQ for the preservation of historical buildings. This research proposed a novel Multiple Output Gate Recurrent Unit (GRU) - Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) integration method and combined it with the automatic control using digital twin technology to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of multiple IAQ management for the preservation of whole indoor spaces. This method considered visual impacts and minimized the external equipment impact. The sequencing order of multiple IAQ enhancements by adjusting HVAC control was investigated based on the priority of multiple IAQ parameters on historic building preservation. The proposed Multiple Output GRU prediction reduced the time by at least 1/3 for training and validation. As heritage buildings restrict the installation of sensors, CFD was used to identify the maximum value and location based on sensed IAQ data for adjustment triggers. The combined method contributed to identifying the predicted maximum value to trigger the 10 min pre-regulation of the HVAC system for dealing with the time delay to maintain multiple IAQ in standard ranges for heritage building preservation.

Automatic Detection and Recognition Method of Chinese Clay Tiles Based on YOLOv4: A Case Study in Macau

ABSTRACT With the rapid growth of global urbanization and the rising demand for sustainable development, it is essential to study the performance and durability of building materials. As a traditional and widely employed building material, Chinese clay tiles play a significant role in traditional Chinese architecture. However, traditional methods for assessing structural surface damage necessitate the time-consuming and labor-intensive assessment and judgment of trained professionals. Consequently, it is crucial to employ machine learning techniques for automatic damage type identification. This study identifies the types of damage to Chinese clay tiles in Macau by employing machine learning techniques and the YOLOv4 object detection model. A total of 363 photographs of on-site Chinese clay tiles were used as training samples, and 200 epochs of the model training were performed. The primary findings of this study are as follows: (1) The machine learning method, based on the YOLOv4 model, provides an effective and precise solution for the automatic identification of Chinese clay tiles damage types, overcoming the human and time-cost constraints of conventional evaluation methods. (2) The detection accuracy of the detection model in this study is 95.42% for the detection of Chinese clay tiles cracks, 80.91% for the detection of stains, and 89.34% for the detection of surface wear, with an overall accuracy of 88.98%, which meets the basic detection requirements. (3) The experimental results demonstrate the viability and efficacy of the proposed method for identifying clay tile damage types and provide a method reference for the preservation and sustainable development of historical buildings.

HBIM: A Tool for Enhancing the Diagnosis of Historical Buildings: The Case of St. George’s Memorial Anglican Church, Oshawa

The primary objective of this research is to address the research gap in the conservation of heritage buildings in Canada by integrating Historical Building Information Modeling (HBIM) as a tool. The proposed study aims to develop an enhanced framework for the preservation of historical buildings through the utilization of HBIM and 3D-scanning technology. As a result, the research aims to generate a comprehensive database comprising various families of models while also incorporating strategies for point-cloud clustering data. The significance of this research lies in its potential to contribute to the conservation and restoration process of historical buildings. Currently, there are a lack of standardized approaches and comprehensive databases for accurately documenting and reproducing historical buildings. By integrating HBIM and 3D-scanning technology, this research will enable the creation of highly accurate three-dimensional virtual models, consisting of millions of points, which will serve as a comprehensive dataset for the restoration of heritage buildings. The findings of this research will benefit multiple stakeholders. Preservation architects, conservationists, and heritage professionals will gain a valuable tool for documenting and analyzing historical buildings with a high level of precision. The comprehensive database and framework proposed in this study will facilitate decision-making processes during the restoration and preservation phases, ensuring that the original architectural elements and materials are faithfully reproduced. Additionally, policymakers and governmental organizations involved in heritage conservation can use the outcomes of this research to establish standardized guidelines and regulations for the preservation of historical buildings in Canada. Ultimately, the broader community will benefit from the enhanced preservation efforts, as it will contribute to the cultural and historical identity of the nation, fostering a sense of pride and connection to the past.

Investigation of GRC Retrofitting Effect on Masonry Dome Using FEM

Historical buildings are the cultural heritage of the world. Preservation of historical buildings is important in the past and today. In particular, material fatigue, environmental vibration effects and natural disasters that occur over time cause great damage to historical structures. It is thought that many historical buildings will not reach the next years due to neglect. In order to prevent this situation, historical buildings should be maintained and strengthened if necessary. In addition, historical buildings should have sufficient stiffness to prevent collapse against pre-disaster situations. Masonry domes are often seen in historical buildings. Many masonries dome historical structures are frequently encountered today. In order for masonry dome in historical building to be transferred to the future, care should be taken and they may need to be strengthened periodically, especially after disasters. For all these reasons, in this study, the GRC retrofitting method, which is one of the retrofitting methods of buildings, is mentioned. Thus, the effect of the GRC retrofitting method applied on an exemplary historical masonry dome on modal parameters has been demonstrated. In this comparative study, it was observed that the stiffness of the masonry dome increased with the GRC retrofitting method. As a result of this study, it is suggested to retrofitting masonry dome with the GRC retrofitting method, taking into account the state of the historical building and environmental factors.

Seismic Strengthening of Stone Barrel Vault Structures by Foam Concrete

Historical buildings are the cultural heritage of the world. Preservation of historical buildings is important in the past and today. In particular, material fatigue, environmental vibration effects and natural disasters that occur over time cause great damage to historical structures. It is thought that many historical buildings will not reach the next years due to neglect. In order to prevent this situation, historical buildings should be maintained and strengthened if necessary. In addition, historical buildings should have sufficient stiffness to prevent collapse against pre-disaster situations. Stone barrel vaults are one of these historical cultural heritages. Many stone barrel vault type historical structures are frequently encountered today. In order for stone barrel vaults to be transferred to the future, care should be taken and they may need to be strengthened periodically, especially after disasters. For all these reasons, in this study, the foam concrete method, which is one of the retrofitting methods of buildings, is mentioned. Thus, the effect of the foam concrete method applied on an exemplary stone barrel vault on modal parameters has been demonstrated. In this comparative study, it was observed that the stiffness of the stone barrel vault increased with the foam concrete method. As a result of this study, it is suggested to retrofitting the stone barrel vault with the foam concrete method, taking into account the state of the stone barrel vault and environmental factors.

Evaluation of suitability for passive retrofit of wooden roof considering the specificity of historic buildings

Energy consumption and carbon emissions of buildings must be reduced according to the 2030 carbon neutrality policy. Many aspects of historic buildings should be considered in their improvement because of their historical value. Thus far, a new strategy to lower energy consumption and improve energy performance is required. This study intends to derive an optimal energy efficiency package to reduce the energy consumption of historic buildings. To accurately analyze energy efficiency, the condition of a historic building was evaluated through on-site inspections. The roof retrofit technology scenario was used to reduce energy loss in exposed rafters. The exterior of the building cannot be damaged as it has historical value. This retrofit technology was analyzed to determine the energy-saving effect and economic feasibility of the package to derive the optimal solution. Retrofit techniques were individually analyzed and packaged for the effective preservation of historic buildings. This study compared a total of six scenarios by combining three types of insulation materials, based on the location of internal insulation, to protect the exposed rafters. Considering energy-saving, economic feasibility, and damage weight, the scenario where polyurethane insulation was applied between battens was the best. However, the insulation of the roof must consider fire resistance as per the Building Act of the Republic of Korea. Considering flame-retardancy, the scenario in which glass wool was applied between batten was the best for the target building.
