Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Standard Infection Control Precautions Among Medical Students at King Khalid University Hospital.

Background Healthcare-associated infection (HAI) risk extends beyond patients to healthcare workers and medical students. However, many HAIs are preventable by adhering to standard infection control precautions (SICPs). This study assesses medical students' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding SICPs at the College of Medicine, King Saud University. Methodology A cross-sectional study was undertaken at the College of Medicine, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, involving interns and medical students from years 1 to 5. The researchers constructed and validated an electronic questionnaire, which was used for data collection from December 2022 to June 2023. The estimated sample size was 371 students and interns, stratified by sex and educational level. The data collected included demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding SICPs. Results Out of371 participants, approximately a quarter (25.1%) had a good knowledge score, 25.6% had a positive attitude, and 26.7% had good infection control practice. There was an association between good knowledge and male gender; being in clinical years 3, 4, 5, and interns; and attending infection control training (p < 0.05). A significant difference in practice was noted among females (p = 0.002). Conclusions This study showed low-to-moderate knowledge, attitude, and practice toward SICPs. These findings indicate a gap between the recommended guidelines and their implementation in healthcare settings, highlighting the necessity for integrating infection control education throughout the medical curriculum. Further research involving a larger sample from multiple institutions is warranted.

Magnitude of standard precautions practices among healthcare workers in health facilities of Low and Middle Income Countries: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Standard precautions are the minimum standard of infection control to prevent transmission of infectious agents, protect healthcare workers, patients, and visitors regardless of infection status. The consistent implementation of standard precautions is highly effective in reducing transmission of pathogens that cause HAIs. Despite their effectiveness, compliance, resources, patient behavior, and time constraints are some of the challenges that can arise when implementing standard precautions. The main objective of this meta-analysis was to show the pooled prevalence of safe standard precaution practices among healthcare workers in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs). A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted for this study. We systematically searched observational study articles from PubMed Central and Google Scholar. We included articles published any year and involving healthcare workers. We used Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). The random effect model was used to estimate the pooled prevalence. The meta-analysis, sensitivity analysis, subgroup analysis, and publication bias (funnel plot, and Egger's tests) were conducted. A total of 46 articles were included in this study. The pooled prevalence of standard precautions practices among healthcare workers in LMICs was 53%, with a 95% CI of (47, 59). These studies had a total sample size of 14061 with a minimum sample size of 17 and a maximum sample size of 2086. The majority of the studies (82.6%) were conducted in hospitals only (all kinds), and the remaining 17.4% were conducted in all health facilities, including hospitals. The pooled prevalence of standard precautions practices among healthcare workers in LMICs was suboptimal. The findings of this study can have substantial implication for healthcare practice and policy making by providing robust evidence with synthesized and pooled evidence from multiple studies. Compliance with Standard Precautions and Associated Factors among Critical Care Nurses in Peshawar, Pakistan and Kunming, China: Comparative Cross-Sectional Study

OBJECTIVES To find the level of compliance and the associated factors of compliance with standard precautions among registered nurses. METHODOLOGY Cross-sectional study was conducted during March and August 2020 in four hospitals, two from each country; Pakistan and China. Data was gathered through a modified version of the adopted questionnaire from 424 registered nurses, selected by a simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 26. RESULTSThe overall compliance with SPs among registered nurses in Pakistan was 57.1%, and among the respondents from China was 75.2%. Gender, age and working area were associated with the compliance of SPs. Female nurses from China are 1.72 times less compliant, while the increasing age of Pakistani nurses increases the risk for non-compliance with SPs by 1.7 times. Participants working in Emergency Department in Pakistan were 2.07 times less compliant than those working in Intensive Care Unit/Coronary Care Unit (ICU/CCU). Lack of training increases the risk of being 2.9 times more non-compliant. For Chinese Nurses, less knowledge and a lack of resources were associated with non-compliance in both countries nurses. CONCLUSION Noteworthy numbers of nurses were found non-compliant with standard precaution practices in both study populations. Therefore, strategies like regular training on standard precautions, availability of Personal Protective Equipment and policymaking may improve compliance with SPs practice.

Factors influencing adherence to Standard Precautions among Nursing Students: A Self-report Study, UAE

Background: Student nurses are the future healthcare providers. Safe nursing practice is crucial as they often are exposed to multiple infections, including bloodborne pathogens, during their clinical practice. To assess the factors that influence adherence to standard precautions among nursing students and to find the association between adherence to standard precautions with their selected demographic variables. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 103 undergraduate nursing students recruited by convenient sampling technique from a selected health sciences university. Adherence to standard precautions was assessed using a standardized questionnaire, ‘Factors Influencing Adherence to Standard Precautions Scale-Student Version’ (FIASPS-SV). Using SPSS version 23 the data were analysed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Frequency and percentage were used to describe the socio-demographic characteristics. Inferential statistics, namely the Chi-Square test, was used to find out the association between FIASPS-SV and their demographic variables. The P value less than 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: The ‘contextual cues’ was found to be the most influencing factor [Total Mean 21.98(6.148), Range 0-28; Mean Response Range of 3.18(.32), Response Range 1-4] while the factor ‘justification’ Fwas found to be the least influencing factor [Total Mean 7.31(6.1285), Range 0-28; Mean Response Range -1.06 (.23), Response Range 1-4] for the adherence of standard precautions among the study participants. A statistically significant association was found between age and specific factors of ‘Leadership’ &amp; ‘Contextual cues’. Gender was found to be associated with specific factors of ‘Justification’ and ‘Contextual cues.’ Conclusion: The study findings showed that the overall student adherence to standard precautions was good. However, they need to improve in some areas, like wearing gloves when drawing blood or cannulation, following standard precautions when handling needles, and confronting people when they are not adhering to these precautions. The faculty should reinforce and encourage the students to implement standard precaution practices effectively at clinical settings to promote safe practice.

Knowledge and Practice of Standard Precautions by Nurses in Hospitals of Babylon Governorate

Background: Hospital-acquired infection (HAI) is one of the most frequent issues that hospitals are facing in every country worldwide. Since nurses are an essential part of the medical workforce that they play a special role in preventing the transmission of infections within hospitals. Objectives: to assess levels of nurses’ knowledge and practice regarding standard precautions. Find out the relationship between knowledge level and practice level. Methodology: 400 nurses from eight hospitals in Babil governorate are included in this cross-sectional study. To assess the knowledge and practice levels, an interview questionnaire was used. SPSS-27 was used for analyzing the data that was collected between September 2022 and March 2023. Results: The main results revealed that 56.3% of nurses had a high level of knowledge on standard precautions. While 51.5%of nurses had poor practice regarding standard precautions. A significant positive relationship between nurses' level of practice and their level of knowledge was also identified. Conclusion: Despite the fact that the majority of study participants had a high level of knowledge, the majority did not always practice these precautions. In addition, the level of practice correlates positively with level of knowledge.

This research study centered on determining the knowledge, attitude, and practice of standard precautions among selected healthcare workers in the University Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The specific objectives are to examine the socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents, assess the level of awareness of standard precautions among healthcare workers, ascertain the attitude of healthcare workers in the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Rivers State towards standard precautions, and determine the level of practice of standard precaution. Related literature reviewed. A descriptive survey design was employed in this study.

Knowledge, Attitude, Practice, and Perceived Barriers for the Compliance of Standard Precautions among Medical and Nursing Students in Central India.

The aim of this study was to assess and compare (a) the knowledge, attitude, and practice of standard precautions (SPs), (b) the knowledge of post-exposure management, and (c) the perceived barriers underlying the noncompliance with SPs among future healthcare professionals (HCPs), i.e., students of medical and nursing courses in Central India. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2017-2018 among students of a medical and a nursing college using a pretested and modified questionnaire. Data were collected during 23 face-to-face sessions. Responses were scored according to standard guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and WHO, where each correct response was given a score of 1. Among 600 participants, 51% of medical students and 75% of nursing students could not select the correct definition of SPs from the given options. Sixty-five percent of medical students (275/423) and 82% of nursing students (145/177) were unaware of the term post-exposure prophylaxis. Overall, knowledge about personal protective equipment and hazard symbols was poor (<25%). Furthermore, although theoretical knowledge about hand hygiene was good (510/600; 85%), its implementation was poor (<30%). Sixty-four percent of participants believed that the use of hand rub replaced the need for handwashing, even for visibly soiled hands. Some of the participants believed that the use of PPE might offend patients (16%). High workload and poor knowledge were other significant barriers underlying the noncompliance with SPs. A suboptimal translation of participants' knowledge into practice is evident and signifies the presence of the know-do gap. Poor knowledge and inappropriate presumptions about the use of SPs discourage the practice of SPs. This results in increased healthcare-associated infections, increased treatment costs, and a suppressed social economy. The inclusion of a dedicated curriculum with repeated hands-on and practice-based training on SPs is suggested to minimize this know-do gap among future healthcare workers.

Compliance with Standard Precaution Practices During the Early Phase of the Covid-19 Pandemic among Nurses in Nigeria

Background: Nurses serve at the frontline during disease outbreaks. While measures have been adopted to control the rapid spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, little is known about the level of compliance of nurses to standard precaution practices during the early phase of the pandemic. Objective: This study aimed to assess compliance with standard precaution practices (SPPs) among 713 nurses in Nigerian hospitals during the early phase of the pandemic. Method: The study adopted a descriptive cross-sectional design using an anonymous online questionnaire to elicit data from respondents. Data were analysed with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, version 25. Chi-square test and multiple regression analyses were also conducted where appropriate. Results: Findings from this study indicated that 448 (62.8%) of the respondents had good knowledge of Covid-19 and 265 (37.2%) had poor knowledge. Also, 529 (74.2%) had good compliance with the practice of standard precautions, and 184 (25.8%) showed non-compliance. A significant association was found between the age of nurses (χ2=14.034 p=0.015), years of experience (χ2=8. 636 p =0.035) and their overall compliance with the practice of standard precautions. Conclusion: During the early phase of the Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria, although over an average of the nurses had good knowledge of the disease, over one-third had poor knowledge, and one-quarter showed poor compliance with standard precautions. Interventions to improve the knowledge and compliance of health workers during the early phase of disease outbreaks are hereby advocated, as 21.3% had no previous training on Covid-19.

Knowledge and Practice of Nurses towards Standard Precautions of Infection Control in Government Hospitals of Sana'a City, Yemen

Background: Hospital-associated infections are those infections acquired during the patient's stay in a hospital or after the patient has been discharged from the hospital. Healthcare professionals, nurses in particular, are constantly expose to these infections while carrying out their nursing activities. This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and practice of the standard precautions of infection control among nurses in the selected government hospitals in Sana'a, Yemen. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted amongst nurses working in five government hospitals in Sana'a City, Yemen. A convenience sample consisting of 232 nurses who work in select hospitals used. The tool used was a self-administered questionnaire. Collected data was analyzed using SPSS version 20. Descriptive statistics used to analyze the study results. Chi-square test, T-test, and One-Way ANOVA test performed and a P-value ?0.05 considered significant. Results: The study revealed that there was a significant statistical difference between nurses' knowledge and practice of standard precautions of infection control (p=0.037). The mean practices percent of nurses practicing safety precautions (53%) was significantly lower than the mean percentage of tested knowledge (81.4%). Less than half of the respondents 106 (45.7%) had a very good knowledge level (&gt;80%), however, only 48 (20.7%) practiced a good level of standard precautions of infection control. Significant statistical differences were found between knowledge and gender (P=0.028) as well as the practice towards work experience and hospital's name (P=0.047, 0.001 respectively). Conclusions: Nurses in the study had good knowledge but the poor practice of standard precautions of infection control. Most of the barriers to using standard precautions of infection control measures were the inadequate supplies of safety devices and the unavailability of infection control protocol in the hospitals.

SEROPREVALENCE OF THE VIRAL MARKERS OF HEPATITIS B, HEPATITIS C, AND HIV AMONG MEDICAL WASTE HANDLERS IN SOME HOSPITALS IN SANA'A CITY- YEMEN

Background and Objective: Hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are highly contagious pathogens that threaten medical waste handlers who are highly exposed to these viruses due to the nature of their work. To date, little data is available on the prevalence of viral markers (HBV, HCV, and HIV) among medical waste handlers in Sana'a city, Yemen. Hence, this work was conducted to enhance knowledge of the prevalence of viral markers among medical waste handlers working in some hospitals in the capital, Sana'a.&#x0D; Methods: A cross-sectional prospective study was conducted on 120 randomly selected medical waste handlers from January to June 2022. A pretested and designed questionnaire was used to collect the required data. Total 5mL of venous blood was collected. Then blood was tested for hepatitis B surface antigen and anti-HCV, as well as HIV antibody, were detected using a qualitative by rapid test cassette and positive results were confirmed by ELIZA technique.&#x0D; Results: The overall positive rates for HBsAg, anti-HCV, and HIV were 9.17%, 5.0%, and 0.0%, respectively, based on the rapid test. No significant differences were detected between socio-demographic characteristics and hepatitis B and HCV infection. High rates of hepatitis B and C infection were found in the age group ≥41 years (9.17%) and 21-30 years (8.77%), respectively. These two viruses have also been detected among married people with a history of acute infection between 7-9 times. There was a significant correlation between HBsAg positivity and history of blood transfusion as well as between HBsAg and anti-HCV positivity and history of hepatitis B vaccination. Knowledge, Attitude, and Compliance to Standard Precautions Among UNIMAS Nursing Students

Standard precautions pertain to the minimum standards of infection prevention practices that apply to patient care, regardless of confirmed or suspected infection status among patients in any setting where medical care is given. These practice guidelines not only help to minimize the spread of infection among patients but also help to avoid healthcare workers from contracting infections when caring for patients. Nursing students are equally at risk to exposure to infections during their clinical attachments in the healthcare setting. Hence, this study aims to assess the level of knowledge, attitude, and compliance toward standard precautions among undergraduate nursing students in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). It also aims to identify the associations between knowledge, attitude, and compliance toward standard precautions among UNIMAS nursing students. Data was collected from a total of 167 participants using a self-administered questionnaire which was disseminated online via Google Forms. The data collection tool consisted of a 46-item structured questionnaire in 4-parts investigating participant’s sociodemographic profile, knowledge, attitude and compliance towards standard precautions. Study participants consisted of students from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (with honours) Programme in UNIMAS. Data collected were entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and was further analyzed using IBM SPSS version 26. Majority of participants in the study demonstrated very good (46.7%, n=78) and good knowledge (50.9%, n=85) levels while only a minority demonstrated fair knowledge (2.4%, n=4) with none exhibiting low knowledge levels toward standard precautions. Most nursing students (97.6%, n=163) investigated in this study showed positive attitudes toward standard precautions practices. Most study participants self-reported their compliance toward standard precaution practices as high (89.8%, n=150) with a minority reporting average (7.8%, n=13), low (0.6%, n=1) and very low (1.8%, n=3) compliance respectively. Further analyses revealed significant correlations between knowledge and attitude (r= .165, p=.033, p&lt; .05); and attitude and compliance (r= -.505, p=.000, p&lt; .05) with no significant correlations between knowledge and compliance (r= -.036, p=.645, p&gt; .05). Undergraduate nursing students of UNIMAS in this study demonstrated desirably good knowledge levels and positive attitudes with a high level of compliance toward standard precautions practices. Despite the overall desirable findings, there is still room for targeted improvements in the undergraduate programme delivery specifically aimed at misconceptions regarding the use of personal protection equipment (PPE) to maintain and further enhance student’s knowledge, attitudes and compliance toward standard precautions.

Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Standard Precautions amongst Allied Oral Healthcare Personnel In Lagos State

Abstract Background: Allied oral healthcare practitioners such as dental technologists, dental therapists, dental technicians, dental nurses etc., are invariably exposed to patients' blood or/and body fluids and this poses a health risk to oral healthcare workers and patients. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of standard precautions (SP) amongst allied oral healthcare workers in Lagos State. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study which entailed the distribution of structured, self-administered questionnaires to a consecutively recruited convenience sample of 113 allied oral healthcare practitioners in both private and public oral healthcare facilities in Lagos State. Data entry and analysis was done using SPSS. Bivariate analysis was done to determine association between variables. P < 0.005 was considered significant. Results: Most (85%) of respondents displayed good overall knowledge of standard precautions. Majority (77%) of respondents had a positive attitude towards standard precautions. Overall practice of standard precautions amongst the participants in the study was good (92%). However, most (74.3%) of the respondents exhibited moderate correctness in the practice of standard precautions, while few (14.2%) demonstrated a high level of correctness; those with poor level of overall correctness in the practice of standard precautions were the least (11.5%). Factors chiefly associated with low or no compliance with standard precautions were lack/inadequate provision of personal protective equipment (85%), inadequate awareness on need for standard precautions (72.6%), stress associated with compliance (67.3%), and lack of basic amenities e.g. soap, water (64.6%). Conclusion: The study showed that the knowledge, attitude and practice of standard precautions among allied oral healthcare workers in both private and public healthcare facilities was fair as majority had good knowledge, attitude and practice of standard precautions. However, there is an urgent need to address the issues with reference to the barriers to compliance with standard precautions identified in the study.

Standard Precautions among HealthCare Workers in a Tertiary Health Facility in Enugu Metropolis, South-East Nigeria

BackgroundThe work environment of Health Care Workers (HCWs) can be described as a potential risk zone due to numerous hazards endemic to the environment. The hospital is not just only a place where the sick people recover from their illness, but also where the healthy get infected.ObjectivesTo assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of Standard Precautions (SP) among HCWs in a tertiary government health facility in Enugu Metropolis, Nigeria.MethodsA descriptive cross-sectional design that used mixed method approach. Qualitative data was collected using an in-depth interview. The quantitative data instrument was a semi-structured, self-administered questionnaire. Manual content analysis was done for the qualitative data. Quantitative data was analysed using SPSS version 22.ResultsSixty-four (32.0%), 131(65.5%) and 5(2.5%) had good, fair and poor knowledge of SP respectively while 117(58.5%), 70(35.0%) and 13(6.5%) had good, fair and poor attitude to SP respectively. Fifty-nine (29.5%), 140(70.0%) and 1(0.5%) had good, fair and poor practice of SP respectively.ConclusionThere was fair knowledge and practice of SP among the studied HCWs while attitude was good.Rwanda J Med Health Sci 2021;4(3):366-378

INFECTION CONTROL: STANDARD PRECAUTION MEASURES KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE OF MEDICAL DOCTORS AND NURSES IN SUDAN

Background and objectives: The emergence of life-threatening infections has highlighted the need for effective infection control programs in all health care settings. These programs are used to support hospitals in reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infection or nosocomial infection, and this study describes the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of standard infection control precautions among Health Care Workers in 3 teaching hospitals in Sudan. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between March and August 2018 among healthcare workers in 3 teaching hospitals: Omdurman Teaching Hospital, Khartoum Bahri Teaching Hospital and Khartoum Teaching Hospital in Sudan. Data for 254 nurses and 283 working physicians were collected via a self-structured questionnaire to assess the KAP core components of standard precautions. The percentage of professional knowledge and practice scores was calculated and occupational differences in the average professional knowledge and practice scores were ascertained. Result: A total of 429 out of 537 participating healthcare workers completed the questionnaire with a response rate of (79.9%), of whom (52.9%) were physicians and (47.1%) were nurses. (39.6%) of doctors and (53.5%) of nurses have a good level of knowledge, about (96%) of doctors and (97%) of nurses wash their hands after handling any bodily fluids, and this indicates that nearly And the doctors have a similar level of practice as well as a positive attitude. (91.1%) of doctors and (85.6%) of nurses think that they can be the source of transmission. Conclusion: Based on the findings of our study, the majority of nurses had good knowledge compared to fair knowledge physicians, with positive attitudes and practices of both physicians and nurses towards the infection control program. Policies that promote training of health care workers in standard precautions and ensure that infection control and prevention resources in health facilities are regularly provided are required in Sudan. Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Standard Infection Control Precautions among Health-Care Workers in a University Hospital in Qassim, Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional Survey.

Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) contribute to increased length of hospital stay, higher mortality and higher health-care costs. Prevention and control of HAIs is a critical public health concern. This study assessed the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of standard infection control precautions among health-care workers (HCWs) in Qassim, Saudi Arabia. A cross-sectional online survey among HCWs was conducted using a structured questionnaire. Predictors of KAP were investigated using multivariate logistic regression analyses and independent sample t-tests. A total of 213 HCWs participated in the survey. The prevalence of good (≥80% correct response) knowledge, attitude, and practice were 67.6%, 61.5%, and 73.2%, respectively. The predictors of good knowledge included the age of the HCWs (>34 years) (adjusted odds ratio: 30.5, p < 0.001), and training (13.3, p < 0.001). More than 6 years of work experience was a significant predictor of having a positive attitude (5.5, p < 0.001). While the predictors of good practice were having >6 years of experience (2.9, p < 0.01), previous exposure to HAIs (2.5, p < 0.05), and training (3.5, p < 0.01). However, being female (0.22, p < 0.001) and older (>34 years) (0.34, p < 0.01) were negatively associated with knowledge. Results indicate that arranging training for HCWs might be useful in improving their knowledge of standard infection control precautions and is also expected to facilitate positive attitude and practice.

Knowledge and practice of standard precautions among healthcare workers in primary and tertiary health facilities in Enugu state, Nigeria; a qualitative study

Background: Standard precautions (SP) is a broad concept involving measures that should be applied in hospital setting to reduce infection transmission. Most hospital acquired infections occur due to breach in SP practices. The objective was to determine the knowledge and practice of SP among HCWs in primary and tertiary health facilities in Enugu State Nigeria.Methods: The study used a qualitative design with case study in primary and tertiary health care workers (HCWs) in Enugu Metropolis, Enugu State Nigeria. A total of 74 HCWs; 24 from the primary and 50 from the tertiary health facilities were observed while 37; 12 from primary and 25 from the tertiary health facility were interviewed. The qualitative study used in-depth interview and triangulation with observational checklist.Results: The HCWs had good knowledge but poor practice of SP. Higher proportion of the tertiary HCWs had better practice of hand hygiene than those in the primary health facilities (OR=17.637, p&lt;0.001). Also, the tertiary HCWs used personal protective equipment (PPE) more adequately (OR=11.417, p=0.001) and practiced injection safety better than the primary HCWs (OR=22.369, p&lt;0.001) except in detaching of needles from syringes where higher proportion of the tertiary HCWs were involved in such practice (tertiary =40.0%, primary =29.2%).Conclusions: There was good knowledge of SP among the HCWs but their practice was poor.

Knowledge and practice of nurses regarding standard precautions in a tertiary care public hospital, North India

Background: Hospital-acquired infections could occur as a result of lapses in accepted standards of practice on the part of health care personnel (HCP). All individuals, particularly HCPs, are potentially at high risk of infection due to their frequent exposure. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and practices of nurses regarding standard precautions at a tertiary care hospital, North India.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital, Uttarakhand enrolling 134 nurses purposively from different units of the institute. Data was collected using a pre-structured self-administered questionnaire to seek information on participants’ knowledge and practices regarding standard precautions. SPSS version-23 was used to analyse the findings. Descriptive statistics were applied for the analysis of the results.Results: The mean age of the participants was 27.52±2.93 years, with more than half of the respondents were males (58.21%), and (41.79%) were females. Almost 60.45% had three or fewer years of work experience. Most respondents preferred hand hygiene (97.01%) and the use of PPE (88.06%). Almost 94.03% of participants favored disinfection of frequently touched surfaces. Regarding the practices, 95.52% answered that the right hand-washing is before wearing gloves, after removing the gloves, and after leaving the patient’s care area. About 98.51% of them answered that bio-medical waste should be discarded in the right type of color-coded bins.Conclusions: Findings suggested adequate knowledge and compliance among nurses regarding standard precautions. However, specific training programs may be conducted to attain full adherence to standard precautions. These programs can enhance their awareness and can work as a vital tool to achieve the desired improvement in knowledge and practices of standard precautions.
