Assessment of knowledge, attitude and practice to promote hand hygiene among undergraduate medical and nursing students in a teaching hospital

: A considerable number of epidemiological evidences proved that efficient hand hygiene practices has reduced the risk of infection cross-transmission in hospital facilities. Despite the effortlessness and simplicity of the practice, compliance with hand hygiene among health care workers has been relatively very less. There is a significant lack of evidence regarding infection control training among undergraduate medical and nursing students, hence it becomes essential to re-examine the efficacy of our hand hygiene sessions and conduct programs, CMEs, workshops frequently to keep health care workers sensitized and oriented towards hand hygiene.: The present study was undertaken to assess the overall exposure of medical and nursing students towards basic hand hygiene practices through a knowledge, attitude and practice questionnaire based cross- sectional study. 100 medical and 100 nursing students were grouped into good, moderate and poor categories, based on scores from the questions testing the overall knowledge of hospital acquired infections, attitude towards hand hygiene and actual practice at the field level.: The present study showed poor knowledge among medical and nursing students i.e 41% and 60% of the participants respectively. Nursing staff showed good attitude when compared to medical students (71% and 56%). Regardless of the knowledge, practice of hand hygiene was good in both the groups 59% of medical and 71% of nursing students. On the whole, in comparison nursing population displayed better results compared to undergraduate medical student population. Nevertheless, evidently showing unsatisfactory results among both the study groups in the grounds of knowledge.: Therefore, the study concludes that knowledge and exposure to hand hygiene practices should be improved in undergraduate curriculum for both medical and nursing students which provides an opportunity to correct the bed side hygiene practices of the future health care providers at the foundation level.

Consequences of COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Among Healthcare Providers During the First 10 Months of Vaccine Availability: Scoping Review.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare providers (HCPs)-including nurses-have played important roles in the vaccination effort. It is expected that COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among HCPs has numerous consequences; however, the scope of these consequences and their impacts on providers, patients, and the broader healthcare system remained unclear. To identify existing and emerging evidence to understand the state of knowledge of the consequences of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among HCPs. A scoping review was completed based upon the JBI scoping review methodology. The databases searched included OVID Medline, EBSCOhost CINAHL, ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health Source, ProQuest APA PsycInfo, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses. The final literature search was completed on June 2, 2022. Studies were screened and retrieved based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria using Covidence reference management software. Data extraction followed criteria recommended in the JBI scoping review framework with additional relevant variables identified by the authors. A total of 33 sources were included in the review. Consequences of HCP COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy were grouped under three themes and seven subthemes. Consequences affecting HCPs included health-related, psychosocial, and employment-related consequences. Consequences affecting patients pertained to COVID-19 vaccination communication and COVID-19 vaccination practices of HCPs. Consequences to the healthcare system involved consequences to coworkers and employment/attendance/staffing-related consequences. Healthcare provider COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy was found to have numerous consequences. By understanding the scope and extent of these consequences, healthcare leaders, researchers, and HCPs can work together to protect providers, patients, and healthcare systems.

Utilization of modern contraceptives among female health care workers at Gulu university teaching hospitals in Northern Uganda

BackgroundThe global high rate of unintended pregnancy is a direct result of underutilization of contraceptives methods. Healthcare workers (HCWs) play a pivotal role in promoting and facilitating access to modern family planning services. By examining the extent to which healthcare providers practice what they preach, this research aimed to shed light on the prevalence and factors associated with modern contraceptive use among female HCW at two university teaching hospitals in northern Uganda.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted among qualified female healthcare workers (FHCWs) at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH) and St. Mary’s Hospital-Lacor in Gulu, Uganda. Convenient consecutive sampling was used to enroll study participants. Linear regression analysis was employed to determine factors independently associated with modern contraceptive use. P < 0.005 was considered statistically significant.ResultsWe enrolled 201 female HCWs, with a median age 31 (interquartile range: 27–38) years. Overall, 15 (7.5%, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 4.4 —11.1) participants utilized modern methods of family planning in the last 3 months while lifetime use was at 73.6% (n = 148, 95%CI: 67.3 — 79.4%). Most common method utilized was intra-uterine devices [IUDs] (51%, n = 76), followed by sub-dermal implants (15.4%, n = 23). Eighty-five (42.3%, n = 85) participants had desire to get pregnant. Factors independently associated with utilization of modern methods contraceptives were working at GRRH (adjusted odds ratio (aOR): 5.0, 95% CI: 1.59 — 10.0, p = 0.003), and being single (aOR: 3.3, 9%CI: 1.02 —10.57, p = 0.046).ConclusionsUtilization of modern methods of contraceptive among female HCWs in this study is lower than the Uganda national estimates for the general female population. Most utilized method is IUDs followed by sub-dermal implants. More studies are recommended to see if this finding is similar among FHCWs in other regions of Uganda and the rest of Africa while also considering Male Healthcare Workers.

Machine learning and IoT Based Robotic Solution for Home Wrist Rehabilitation through Motion Capture Enabled Architecture

The present study investigates the effectiveness of an integrated approach that combines machine learning, robotic rehabilitation, and traditional methods for wrist rehabilitation among the hemiparesis population. Subjects with robotic rehabilitation at the four-week intervention period showed the ball’s significant difference in the flexion and extension angles and demonstrated the better overall outcomes from the robotic intervention . The machine learning models, in particular, the artificial neural networks, provided the prediction of rehabilitation outcomes and demonstrated the high accuracy, high precision, high recall, and high F1 score. This study supports the idea of the beneficial effects of combining robotic rehabilitation with machine learning algorithms and supports the notion that the two benefits could bring high synergistic effects above their individual potentials. The report also contributes to the development of the rehabilitation science of wrists, given that few studies have explored the applications of artificial intelligence methods or robotic rehabilitation beyond the context of feasibility reports. The findings of the current research could contribute useful insights for the decision-making practices of therapists and healthcare providers, also given the reliance on large data contributed by the previous interventions. Future study could investigate the long-term results, the cost-effectiveness of the approaches, and assist in developing the potential results of customization for individual patients.

Healthcare Providers’ knowledge, attitudes and practice in relation to drug hypersensitivity reactions at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh

BackgroundDrug hypersensitivity reactions (DHRs) are immune-mediated responses triggered by exposure to a drug. DHRs are responsible for serious adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and are considered the fifth leading cause of death. This study aims to assess and evaluate the knowledge, practice, and attitudes of healthcare providers (HCPs) towards DHRs. MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted at King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Healthcare providers, including pharmacists, physicians, and nurses, were recruited using a convenience sampling method to complete the survey. The survey comprised three domains: knowledge (14 items), attitudes (5 items), and practices (6 items), utilizing a standardized self-administered questionnaire. ResultsThe survey was completed by 373 healthcare providers. The respondents were predominantly female (72.1 %) with a mean age of 33.8 ± 7.8 years. Of the respondents, 64 % were nurses, 25 % pharmacists, and 11.3 % physicians. Educational levels varied, with 53 % holding a bachelor's degree, 22 % an associate degree, and 25 % a master's degree or higher. The median knowledge score was 48. Female healthcare providers, those with advanced levels of education, and physicians had higher knowledge scores compared to male and nurse participants (p < 0.05). One-third of the respondents (33 %) were satisfied with their knowledge of DHRs, and 42 % believed HCPs should receive more advanced training in DHR management. Less than a quarter of HCPs reported inquiring about patients' histories of hypersensitivity reactions. ConclusionsThe study revealed that healthcare workers had a relatively low level of knowledge about drug hypersensitivity reactions and lacked a consensus on DHR management. While displaying a positive attitude towards DHRs, they often did not translate this attitude into consistent clinical practice.

Cross-Cultural Validation of the Healthcare Provider's Practices, Attitudes, Self-Confidence, and Knowledge Regarding Bullying Questionnaire.

How can we know the reality of the context of bullying in the field of primary health care? The aim of this study is to obtain a validated and reliable tool that allows measurement of the involvement of primary care professionals in addressing bullying through a systematic content validation process. A cross-cultural validation of the Healthcare Provider's Practices, Attitudes, Self-Confidence, and Knowledge Regarding Bullying Questionnaire was conducted for the Spanish perspective. This involved linguistic adaptation through translation-back-translation, content validity index (CVI) analysis, construct validity using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and internal consistency (Cronbach's α). The total CVI was 0.95, with individual item scores ≥ 0.78. CFA revealed a good fit for the three subscales, with discrimination indices (item-total correlation within the dimension) > 0.30. Cronbach's α for each dimension indicated a high level of reliability, with values of 0.735 for attitudes, 0.940 for self-confidence, and 0.895 for knowledge. The questionnaire is valid and reliable for evaluating the knowledge, attitudes, and self-confidence of primary care professionals in Spain regarding bullying. Its validity and reliability guarantee its potential use in other health settings and may lead to better training of professionals and school biopsychosocial health.

Knowledge and practices of private healthcare providers regarding tuberculosis case notification in Rural Maharashtra

India carries the highest share of active and missing tuberculosis (TB) cases globally. The Government of India is prioritizing private sector engagement (PSE) in TB elimination activities, as most healthcare-seeking in the country happens in this sector. This study aimed to understand the knowledge and practices of private healthcare providers (PHP) on various aspects of TB case notification through the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). This cross-sectional study was carried out between Oct 2020 to April 2021 amongst PHPs in the Junnar Tuberculosis Unit (TU), Pune District, Maharashtra. Junnar Block has 299 PHPs who assess, diagnose, and/or treat TB cases. A total of 97 participants were enrolled in the study. About 89 (91.8%) PHPs are aware that TB case notifications are mandatory by law. However, 80.4% are unaware of the Ni-kshay portal (web-based case surveillance system) by NTEP. Similarly, 74 (76.3%) must be aware of incentives for PHPs to collaborate with the government healthcare delivery system. 82.8% of total Ayurveda, Unani, Naturopathy, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH) practitioners and 46.2% of Allopathic practitioners have poor knowledge about TB case notification, with a Chi-square value of 14.36 (p&amp;lt;0.01). Our study shows that the active engagement of private providers (PPs), especially AYUSH practitioners in rural areas, is a need of the hour in achieving TB elimination.

Knowledge, attitude, and practice of healthcare providers on chronic refractory cough: A cross-sectional study

ObjectivePrevious studies from outside China showed that the knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) of chronic refractory cough (CRC) was moderate among physicians. This study examined the KAP toward CRC in Chinese healthcare providers. MethodsThis single-center cross-sectional study was conducted at The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, Yancheng Third People's Hospital, from July 2022 to January 2023 and enrolled healthcare providers. The demographic characteristics and KAP scores were collected using a questionnaire (Cronbach's α = 0.934) developed based on CRC guidelines. ResultsThe study included 539 healthcare providers. The mean knowledge score was 8.27 ± 2.37 (maximum of 14, 59.07%), indicating poor knowledge. The highest rates of inaccuracies pertained to knowledge about the definition of chronic cough, empirical treatment methods, and potential risks of different treatments, suggesting a need for unified training in all aspects of CRC for medical staff. The mean attitude score was 49.74 ± 63.63 (maximum of 60, 82.90%), indicating favorable attitudes. Most healthcare providers believed that CRC affects normal work and life and that it would be necessary to provide more help to patients from the perspectives of drug treatment and psychological counseling. The mean practice score was 23.20 ± 6.28 (maximum of 35, 66.29%), indicating poor practice. ConclusionThis study suggests that healthcare providers in Yancheng have poor knowledge, favorable attitudes, and poor practice of CRC. This study provides points that should be targeted in future training and continuing education activities.

U.S. Healthcare Provider Views and Practices Regarding Planned Birth Setting.

We conducted 19 in-depth, semistructured, qualitative interviews of eight obstetricians, eight midwives, and three pediatricians from across the United States. Interviews explored healthcare providers' interpretation of the current evidence and their personal and professional experiences with childbirth within the existing medical, ethical, and legal context in the United States. Themes emerged concerning risks and benefits, decision-making, and patient-provider power dynamics. Collectively, the narratives illuminated fundamental ideological tensions between in- and out-of-hospital providers arising from divergent assignment of value to described risks and benefits. The majority of physicians focused on U.S.-specific data demonstrating increased neonatal morbidity and mortality associated with delayed access to hospital-based interventions, thereby justifying hospital birth as the standard of care. By contrast, midwives emphasized data demonstrating fewer interventions and superior maternal and neonatal outcomes in high-income European countries, where out-of-hospital birth is more common for low-risk birthing people. A key gap in counseling was revealed, as no interviewees offered anticipatory counseling regarding birth setting options. Providers directly and indirectly illustrated the propensity for asymmetric power relations between birth providers and pregnant people, especially in hospital settings. The narratives highlight the common goal of optimizing maternal and neonatal outcomes despite tensions arising from divergent prioritization of specific maternal and neonatal risks. Our findings suggest opportunities to foster collaboration and optimize outcomes via mutual respect and improved integration of care.

Knowledge and practices of sickle cell disease among healthcare providers in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, there is a low evocation of the diagnosis of sickle cell disease (SCD) by first-level healthcare providers (HCPs), most likely because of poor knowledge of the disease. To assess the levels of knowledge and practices of SCD and to identify determinants of the practices among primary HCPs. Healthcare facilities in Selembao health zone in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. A cross-sectional study of HCPs randomly selected through a two-stage sampling design. Data were collected using a pre-tested interviewer-administered questionnaire. Univariate and bivariate analysis were done to describe the levels of knowledge and practices of SCD. Factors associated with better practices on SCD were determined using multiple linear regression. The threshold for statistical significance wasp˂ 0.05. A total of 318 HCPs, which included 80 physicians and 238 nurses, participated in the study. The participants showed different scores on the components of the knowledge. All the participants showed poor practices on SCD. Multiple linear regression retained overall knowledge of SCD as a significant predictor of better practice for physicians. Knowledge of SCD and duration of work experience were significant predictors of better practices among nurses. The practices of healthcare providers on SCD were far from optimal. These practices were significantly associated with knowledge and experience of healthcare providers.Contribution:This study highlighted the need for continuing professional education to enhance the management of SCD in the setting.

THE DISPOSAL PRACTICES OF UNUSED AND EXPIRED PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS AMONG NON-GOVERNMENTAL HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS IN NORTH EASTERN NIGERIA

The disposal practices of unused and expired medicines have become a worldwide challenge. Due to the state of insecurity in the North Eastern Nigeria, Non-Governmental Healthcare providers provide healthcare services and medication to populations in distress and are also positioned to possess unused and expired health products. The objective of the study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and practices of Non-Governmental Healthcare providers working in Borno State Nigeria towards handling unused and expired pharmaceuticals. A cross-sectional research design using questionnaires was employed among all Non-Governmental Healthcare providers registered under the Borno State Agency for Coordination of Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Response (BACSDAHR) and all donor agencies implementing health programmes within the state. A total of 43 respondents participated in the study. About 86.0% showed good knowledge of the environmental impact of improper disposal, 95.5% showed a good attitude on disposal of unused and expired medicine, 62.8% exhibited good practices in the handling of unused and expired medicines. A significant association was found between the profession and the disposal practices of unused and expired medicines. Between 80% to 93% of respondents do not know of the availability of any medicine disposal guideline document in their organization. The staff of Non-Governmental Healthcare providers show good knowledge, good attitude as well as good practices on the disposal of unused and expired medicines. The profession of respondents significantly influenced their disposal practices.

Assessment of Knowledge and Practice of Healthcare Providers in Saudi Arabia Regarding Clostridioides difficile Infection Diagnosis and Management: A Cross-Sectional Questionnaire-Based Study.

Diagnosis of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) depends on clinical presentation and laboratory testing. Stool diagnostic tests are essential for effective detection of toxigenic C. difficile strains. No study to date has evaluated the readability of microbiology labs in Saudi Arabia to test for CDI and evaluated the knowledge and practice of healthcare providers regarding CDI management. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the knowledge and practice of healthcare providers in Saudi Arabia regarding CDI diagnosis and treatment. A cross-sectional, descriptive, questionnaire-based study was conducted on healthcare providers in Saudi Arabia, primarily physicians and clinical pharmacists. The questionnaire was developed based on a literature review and input from infectious diseases experts. The questionnaire was administered online. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Of 183 respondents, 27.9% had adequate knowledge on CDI diagnosis and management. The majority were internal medicine specialists (37.7%) working in governmental or semi-governmental hospitals (80.9%) in central (46.6%) or southern (30.1%) regions of Saudi Arabia. Most participants assessed laxative use (86.3%) and reported positive C. difficile specimens to infection control (67.2%). However, knowledge varied, with 57.4% supporting unnecessary retesting and 53% assuming positive PCR test indicates moderate CDI probability. Factors such as specialization, hospital accreditation status, and bed capacity influenced knowledge levels (p<0.01 for all factors). The study revealed a significant knowledge gap among Saudi healthcare providers regarding CDI diagnosis, management, and severity classification, highlighting the need for improved education and adherence to guidelines to improve patient outcomes and reduce recurrence risks.

Healthcare provider perceptions and reported practices regarding opioid prescription for patients with chronic cancer pain.

Data indicates that clinicians might be under-prescribing opioids for patients with chronic cancer pain, and this could impact adequate pain management. Few studies have sought to understand healthcare provider (HCP) perceptions and practices regarding the prescription of opioids for chronic cancer pain. We assessed HCP perceptions and practices regarding opioid prescription for patients with chronic cancer pain since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. An anonymous cross-sectional survey was conducted among 186 HCPs who attended an opioid educational event in April 2021 and 2022. Sixty-one out of 143 (44%) opioid prescribers reported reluctance to prescribe opioids for chronic cancer pain. In a multivariate logistic model, younger participants (log OR - 0.04, 95% CI - 0.085, - 0.004; p = 0.033) and pain medicine clinicians (log OR - 1.89, CI - 3.931, - 0.286; p = 0.034) were less reluctant, whereas providers who worry about non-medical opioid use were more reluctant to prescribe opioids (log OR 1.58 95% CI 0.77-2.43; p < 0.001). Fifty-three out of 143 (37%) prescribers had experienced increased challenges regarding opioid dispensing at pharmacies, and 84/179 (47%) of all respondents reported similar experience by their patients. Fifty-four out of 178(30%) were aware of opioid-related harmful incidents to patients or their families, including incidents attributed to opioid misuse by a household or family member. A considerable number of opioid prescribers were reluctant to prescribe opioids for patients with chronic cancer pain. Many reported challenges regarding dispensing of opioids at the pharmacies. These may be unintended consequences of policies to address the opioid crisis. Future measures should focus on addressing regulatory barriers without undermining the gains already made to combat the opioid crisis.

Engaging stakeholders to level up COPD care in LMICs: lessons learned from the “Breathe Well” programme in Brazil, China, Georgia, and North Macedonia

BackgroundEffective stakeholder engagement in health research is increasingly being recognised and promoted as an important pathway to closing the gap between knowledge production and its use in health systems. However, little is known about its process and impacts, particularly in low-and middle-income countries. This opinion piece draws on the stakeholder engagement experiences from a global health research programme on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) led by clinician researchers in Brazil, China, Georgia and North Macedonia, and presents the process, outcomes and lessons learned.Main bodyEach country team was supported with an overarching engagement protocol and mentored to develop a tailored plan. Patient involvement in research was previously limited in all countries, requiring intensive efforts through personal communication, meetings, advisory groups and social media. Accredited training programmes were effective incentives for participation from healthcare providers; and aligning research findings with competing policy priorities enabled interest and dialogue with decision-makers. The COVID-19 pandemic severely limited possibilities for planned engagement, although remote methods were used where possible. Planned and persistent engagement contributed to shared knowledge and commitment to change, including raised patient and public awareness about COPD, improved skills and practice of healthcare providers, increased interest and support from clinical leaders, and dialogue for integrating COPD services into national policy and practice.ConclusionStakeholder engagement enabled relevant local actors to produce and utilise knowledge for small wins such as improving day-to-day practice and for long-term goals of equitable access to COPD care. For it to be successful and sustained, stakeholder engagement needs to be valued and integrated throughout the research and knowledge generation process, complete with dedicated resources, contextualised and flexible planning, and commitment.

Assessment of Primary Healthcare Providers' Knowledge and Practices in Addressing Asymptomatic Hyperuricemia and Gout in the Asir Region of Saudi Arabia.

Introduction and aim Gout, the most common form of inflammatory arthritis, arises from hyperuricemia, a condition where elevated levels of uric acid lead to the deposition of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals in the joints. Nevertheless, it's important to note that not all cases of hyperuricemia result in gout. Methodology This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Asir region of Saudi Arabia, targeting primary healthcare physicians (PHPs) specializing in family medicine and general practice. The study utilized a modified electronic questionnaire, inspired by similar studies and aligned with recent guidelines, to assess PHPs' knowledge and practices concerning asymptomatic hyperuricemia (AH) and gout. The questionnaire encompassed the PHPs' demographic data and their knowledge and practices for AH and gout management. Results Out of 201 participating PHPs, the majority were male (68.2%), predominantly aged 25-34 years (73.1%), and practicing as general practitioners (61.2%). A significant proportion of PHPs had less than five years of experience (63.7%). In terms of education, 36.8% attended continuing medical education (CME) on AH or gout, and 66.7% were aware of the related management guidelines. The study revealed that the total knowledge score among PHPs averaged 5.18 out of seven, indicating a moderate level of knowledge. However, their practice level was moderate, with a mean practice score of 6.75 out of 12. The study also found no significant differences in knowledge scores based on gender, age, or years of experience, but significant variations were noted based on medical specialty. Conclusion There is a moderate level of knowledge and practice among PHPs in managing AH and gout in the Asir region. Despite adequate knowledge levels, there appears to be a gap in implementing this knowledge into practice, particularly in long-term management strategies. The findings emphasize the need for ongoing medical education and specialized training programs to bridge these gaps. The study provides a valuable framework for identifying and addressing similar challenges in other regions and medical practices.

Qualitative Evaluation of Treatment Partners for People With HIV in Botswana: Current Healthcare Provider Practices and Recommendations for Improvement.

Botswana has an adult HIV prevalence of 20.8% and annual incidence of 0.2%. We aimed to evaluate current practices and advance recommendations for treatment partners (informal adherence supporters) for people with HIV in Botswana. In January-February 2020, we conducted seven focus groups with 36 healthcare providers at seven HIV clinics in Gaborone, Botswana. Providers perceived treatment partners to be critical for quality patient care. They shared that in the new era of universal antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation immediately after diagnosis ("test-and-treat"), providers no longer require patients to select treatment partners at ART initiation. Providers suggested a renewed emphasis on treatment partners. They believed that standard guidance for providers around treatment partner selection would ensure that providers cover similar topics across patients and endorsed implementation of workshops to educate treatment partners on how to support patients. However, streamlined ART initiation policies require innovative strategies, including eHealth interventions, to engage treatment partners.

Towards a standardized program of transitional care for adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis for Turkey: a national survey study

BackgroundJuvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a prevalent childhood chronic arthritis, often persisting into adulthood. Effective transitional care becomes crucial as these patients transition from pediatric to adult healthcare systems. Despite the concept of transitional care being recognized, its real-world implementation remains inadequately explored. This study aims to evaluate the thoughts and practices of healthcare providers regarding transitional care for JIA patients.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted among pediatric and adult rheumatologists in Turkey. Based on the American Academy of Pediatrics’ six core elements of transitional care, the survey included 86 questions. The respondents’ demographic data, attitudes towards transitional care, and practical implementation were assessed.ResultsThe survey included 48 rheumatologists, with 43.7% having a transition clinic. The main barriers to establishing transition programs were the absence of adult rheumatologists, lack of time, and financial constraints. Only 23.8% had a multidisciplinary team for transition care. Participants agreed on the importance of coordination and cooperation between pediatric and adult healthcare services. The timing of the transition process varied, with no consensus on when to initiate or complete it. Participants advocated for validated questionnaires adapted to local conditions to assess transition readiness.ConclusionsThe study sheds light on the challenges and perspectives surrounding transitional care for JIA patients in Turkey. Despite recognized needs and intentions, practical implementation remains limited due to various barriers. Cultural factors and resource constraints affect the transition process. While acknowledging the existing shortcomings, the research serves as a ground for further efforts to improve transitional care and ensure better outcomes for JIA patients transitioning into adulthood.

Assessment of Health Care Providers Attitudes and Practices Concerning Medication Errors in Saudi Arabia

Introduction: Medication errors are one of the leading causes of patients’ morbidity and mortality in health care settings&#x0D; Objective: Assess awareness, attitude and practices of health care providers toward medication errors in Saudi Arabia.&#x0D; Methodology: Cross-sectional study design was used in the period of three months, from 01 July to 30th November, 2023. participants were selected randomly. 329 health care providers including physicians, pharmacists and nurses working in different hospitals, primary health care centers and private clinics in different regions of Saudi Arabia, participated in the study. Dat was analyzed using Microsoft excel program.&#x0D; Results: The mean score of good knowledge about medication errors among respondents was 77%, average score of good attitudes toward medication errors among respondents was 72%. 74% of respondents were willing to inform supervisor if they had noticed a medication error. The causes for not reporting medication error were fear of any legal consequences (41%), self-management (23%), busy with work (15%) and did not know whom to inform (21%). Less than half (48%) of study subjects had previously filled an adverse drug reaction form.&#x0D; Conclusion: Medication errors play a significant role role in the quality of health of our patients. Health care providers in Saudi Arabia have good knowledge and positive attitude toward medication errors. However, medication error reporting is still not sufficiently done.

Status and influencing factors of knowledge, attitude and self-reported practice regarding hospice care among nurses in Hainan, China: A cross-sectional study.

This study is to investigate the current status of knowledge, attitude and self-reported practice in hospice care among nurses in Hainan, China, and then to analyse its influencing factors and mediating effects. This provides a basis for formulating scientific and standardized hospice care training programmes for nurses. This cross-sectional study investigated knowledge, attitude and self-reported practice in hospice care among 1819 nurses in Hainan, China. Convenience sampling was used to select participants from 45 hospitals and nursing homes in 14 cities and counties from October to December 2021. A scale of knowledge, attitude and self-reported practice of healthcare providers in hospice care (Chinese version) was administered to collect data during the study period. Statistical analyses, including t-tests, one-way ANOVA, post-hoc analysis and multiple linear regression, assessed the status of knowledge, attitude and self-reported practice of hospice care in nurses and identified influencing factors. The PROCESS macro program model 4.0 was employed to explore the mediating effect of attitude on knowledge and self-reported practice in hospice care. Nurses in Hainan displayed low knowledge (mean = 7.68, SD = 3.53), moderate attitudes (mean = 88.13, SD = 12.10) and self-reported practice (mean = 51.81, SD = 9.82) in hospice care. Current employment and willingness to engage in hospice care were significant factors influencing knowledge, attitude and self-reported practice in hospice care. Attitude partially mediated the relationship between knowledge and self-reported practice. This study focuses on nurses' knowledge, attitude and self-reported practice in hospice care and does not directly involve patients or the public. However, the findings enhance hospice care provided to patients and the broader community by improving nurses' knowledge and skills. This study informs evidence-based training programmes and interventions, benefiting those in need of hospice care services.
