Investigating the impact of solar PV and wind energy systems on the strength of a longitudinal power grid

The integration of inverter-based generation (IBG), such as solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind systems, presents unique challenges for power grid strength, especially in regions with limited conventional generation capacity. This study investigates the impact of such integration on the strength of Nigeria's power grid, focusing on sparsely connected northern region with abundant renewable resources. Using the network response short-circuit ratio (NRSCR) metric, which accounts for interactions between IBGs, we assess grid strength in three case studies. Simulations were conducted with the Power System Simulation for Engineering (PSS®E) software. Static analysis reveals inherent weakness in the northern region, characterized by low short-circuit capacity. Integrating IBGs at nine strategic locations shows varying responses: strong buses (NRSCR > 10) adapt well, while weak buses (NRSCR < 10), particularly in Kano and Katsina, constrain the operational capacity of the IBGs. Furthermore, close interaction among IBGs at these locations significantly impacts the system's dynamic response, although planned addition of conventional generators offers marginal improvement. This work highlights the potential of renewable resources to address energy shortages but also underscores the crucial need for detailed design studies at each point of interconnection (PoI), considering the longitudinal grid layout in the northern region and potential limitations imposed by IBG interactions. The findings also offer a structured approach that can be applied to power grids with comparable IBG integration levels, similar to the energy landscape of Nigeria.

Grid Forming Technologies to Improve Rate of Change in Frequency and Frequency Nadir: Analysis-Based Replicated Load Shedding Events

Electric power generation is quickly transitioning toward nontraditional inverter-based resources (IBRs). Prevalent devices today are solar PV, wind generators, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) based on electrochemical packs. These IBRs are interconnected throughout the power system via power electronics inverter bridges, which have sophisticated controls. This paper studies the impacts and benefits resulting from the integration of grid forming (GFM) inverters and energy storage on the stability of power systems via replicating real events of loss of generation units that resulted in large load shedding events. First, the authors tuned the power system dynamic model in Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSSE) to replicate the event records and, upon integrating the IBRs, analyzed the system dynamic responses of the BESS. This was conducted for both GFM and grid following (GFL) modes. Additionally, models for Grid Forming Static Synchronous Compensator (GFM STATCOM), were also created and simulated to allow for quantifying the benefits of this technology and a techno-economic analysis compared with GFM BESSs. The results presented in this paper demonstrate the need for industry standardization in the application of GFM inverters to unleash their benefits to the bulk electric grid. The results also demonstrate that the GFM STATCOM is a very capable system that can augment the bulk system inertia, effectively reducing the occurrence of load shedding events.

Contingency Assessment for Power System Integrated with Wind Power

Electric demand in the last few years has widely increased, especially in Iraq, where there is a significant difference between the generation and the load in almost all months of the year, particularly in the summer season. One of the important aspects where the operational engineers must take appropriate action in case of an unforeseen catastrophe is power system security. Consequently, the security of the power system depends on the contingency analysis. In order to investigate the impact of wind power on the contingency analysis, three wind farms (WFs) are selected based on the wind's speed availability in Iraq, which are Shaikh Saad, Al-Dujaili, and Al-Fajar. In addition, the wind speeds for these locations are analysed using the Weibull and Rayleigh probability density functions. In this regard, this paper studied and analysed the impact of integrating wind power on the operation of the 132 kV Iraqi grid systems (zone 18). The results show that when line outage contingencies occur (single- and double-line outages), the risk of power flow violations based on the MVA rating will be reduced when integrating wind energy with a 100% integration rate with the Iraqi grid system. Matlab, a programming language, and the Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E) software (Version 32) are used to simulate the proposed approach of integrating wind power into the grid.

Stability model integration for large scale solar photovoltaic system using Western electricity coordinating council model

&lt;span lang="EN-US"&gt;Due to the increased demand for renewable energy, the interest in the large-scale solar photovoltaic (LSSPV) power plant has recently grown dramatically. However, when a large amount of electricity is produced from the LSSPV power plant to the grid interconnection, the system commonly experiences instability and thus disrupt the grid system in disturbance issues such as bus fault, line-to-line fault, three-phase fault, and tripping. This sudden disturbance occurrence is tended to interrupt the stability of the system from providing balanced electrical production within the electrical grid. A dynamics response from the simulation is used to study the stability and the behavior of the photovoltaic (PV) plant into the grid interconnection by developing 118 bus system. The observation of critical clearing time (CCT) duration shows that the result from the simulation where the duration takes less than t=15 s for the system to get back to its pre-fault condition in three-phase fault and tripping in a dynamic simulation to shows that the system reaches its stability been observed through the simulation result by using from user-specific models to generic models like those advocated by the Western electricity coordinating council (WECC) in power system simulator for engineering (PSSE) software.&lt;/span&gt;

The Operation Strategy of the MIDC Systems for Optimizing Renewable Energy Integration of Jeju Power System

The power system on Jeju Island currently faces challenges due to an imbalance between power supply and demand owing to increasing renewable energy (RE) generation. Consequently, the multi-infeed high-voltage direct-current (MIDC) systems are expected to play an important role in reducing RE curtailment and increasing RE penetration. However, despite the balance between power supply and demand, transmission line (TL) overloads on Jeju Island, which has a low permissible rating, may lead to RE curtailment. We propose an operational strategy for the MIDC systems to mitigate TL overloading and RE curtailment. This strategy was aimed at managing the possible congestion of TLs, maintaining a power supply–demand balance, and increasing the penetration level of RE. In this paper, we present a scheme for calculating the operating points of the MIDC systems and allocating RE curtailment using optimization with security constraints to mitigate TL overloading. The proposed optimization model simplifies solving the mathematical equations involved by employing a sensitivity factor called the power transfer distribution factor (PTDF), using which linear programming (LP) optimization can be performed. To verify the feasibility of the operational strategy, case studies are conducted using an actual Jeju Island power system with a power system analysis tool—Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E). The optimization problem was solved using MATLAB.

Reliability Improvement of Composite Power System using UPFC

Together with quality power supply criteria, Composite Power System (CPS) reliability is also one of the important aspects of deciding the security of the CPS for a given load demand. In the current paper, the reliability of CPS is evaluated. The Newton Raphson (NR) approach is implemented in Power System Simulation for Engineering (PSSE) software to take into account, the load flows, then the power available to the load points, to evaluate the reliability of CPS. Newton Raphson NR Method was implemented by considering different contingencies of the CPS. Power available to the load points obtained by the NR method is critical in identifying the successful operating state of the CPS. Expected Load Curtailment (ELC), Number of Load Curtailment (NLC), Expected Energy Not Supplied (EENS), and Severity Index (SI) are the crucial dependability indices that are assessed. The main objective of the Reliability evaluation of the CPS is to investigate the scope for the improvement of reliability and explore the possible schemes to improve CPS reliability. The Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) one of the Flexible AC Transmission Systems is incorporated into the CPS to analyze the improvement in the reliability of the system. Further, the effect of UPFC on the power-carrying capacity of the lines under contingency conditions, resulting in the failure mode of CPS operation is examined. Improvement in the reliability indices of the system is observed due to UPFC incorporation.

Preface

The 2022 International Conference on Energy Internet and Power Systems (ICEIPS 2022) was successfully held on August 26-28, 2022 in Shanghai, China as a virtual conference. Energy Internet is an important technology to support new electrical power systems but its development in China is still very incipient. Therefore, ICEIPS 2022 provided an academic platform for scholars, engineers, and researchers to increase their skills and gain a better knowledge of the industry’s needs in energy internet and power systems,We were honored to have three distinguished professors to serve as our Conference Chairs. They are Prof. Zainal Kadir from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia, Prof. Hazlie Mokhlis from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia and Prof. Hongwei Li from Southwest Petroleum University, China respectively. The online conference consisted of keynote speeches, oral presentations, and online Q&A discussion, bringing together 100 participants. Firstly, keynote speakers were each allocated 30-45 minutes to hold their speeches. Then in the oral presentations, the excellent papers we had selected were presented by their authors by turns.During the conference, four professors were invited as keynote speakers to address speeches. Among them, Prof. Zainal Kadir from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia delivered a keynote speech on Geomagnetically Induced Current Analysis for Grid System Resiliency Assessment. In the report, he presented that the Power System Computer-Aided Design for Electromagnetic Transients incorporating Direct Current (PSCAD/EMTDC) programme and Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E) were used to construct a complete power network and a geoelectric field strength was then applied to the whole network in both north and east directions, showing the influence of GIC on HV transformers in the Malaysian power network. Besides, Assoc. Prof. Rakesh Patel from G H Patel college of Engineering & technology, India reported to us The Future of Electric Vehicles and Material Resources. He introduced that electric vehicles (EVs) offer an opportunity to replace fossil fuels in the transport sector. But the issue of long-term sustainability of EVs is underscored by the supply risks of critical material resources used in the EV batteries. The wonderful and dramatic speeches had triggered heated discussion. Moreover, every participant praised this conference for disseminating useful and insightful knowledge.The proceedings of ICEIPS 2022 are a compilation of the accepted papers and represent an interesting outcome of the conference. THE IMPACT OF USING ELECTRIC ENERGY STORAGES ON THE SYRIAN POWER SYSTEM STABILITY

In recent years, a real opportunity to create a capacitive-storage energy source based on supercapacitors with increased energy intensity has appeared. At present, on the basis of supercapacitors, an energy storage device (ES) has been created, and there is an experimental process, the power of which in the model of an electric power system is 10 kW. The level of stored energy is determined by the type of storage device (30 kJ or more). The purpose of the paper is to develop effective methods for increasing frequency, rotor angle based on modern energy storage devices (supercapacitors). The program of Power System Simulation for Engineering (PSS/E) is used in the study. The importance of the work is described in the paper and the features of the impact of using supercapacitors on the stability of frequency and rotor angle by making several experiments with different capacities and voltages and then comparing the results obtained using the PSS/E program are considered. Ensuring the stability of the load schedule at the maximum consumption of electricity in the electric power system of a certain region or country is a long-term procedure that needs to be developed and improved in the means of its implementation. Modern systems have characteristic features, such as an increase in the unevenness of load schedules, the need to generate power from generation facilities in each period of time, an increase in the steepness of load schedules, scaling of power plant equipment, which increase their economic feasibility of operation, reduce their maneuverability, etc. Search and development of new ways and methods for compensating peak loads in the electric power system are relevant and in demand.

Solving Unit Commitment Including Wind Power Generation Using PSS®E

Operating the power system in an optimal way and keeping it safe and reliable is very important in power systems planning and operation. The power system currently has a large variety of power plants that operate with different kinds of fossil fuel or use renewable energy to produce power. As the demand on electricity is fluctuated, utilities are obligated to provide consumers with power at any time during a day. Power system operators try to supply electricity in an economic operation by turning on the cheapest generating units and turning off the most expensive ones at off-peak value of the load. Finding the optimal combination of units to supply forecasting load is called unit commitment problem (UC). The second step of the optimization problem is finding the optimal output power from each committed unit, which known as economic dispatch (ED). The main benefits of solving the unit commitment problem and economic dispatch are to minimize generation cost over the objective period horizon while applying all system constraints that come from generating units’ limits and the transmission system’s characteristics, as well as to verify the balance between power generation and power demand. While, the optimal power flow (OPF) tries to find the optimal dispatch for the whole power system, but by taking into account all systems constrain, such as voltage security and transmission line limit. The optimal power flow can control many variables to find the optimal operation of the system, like a transformer tap changer, phase shifter, switched shunt, and load adjustment. In this paper, power system simulator for engineering (PSS®E) is used to solve unit commitment, economic dispatch, and optimal power flow. The implementation is performed on IEEE 30-bus system for a 24-hour period. In the first stage, the UC, ED, and OPF were solved for the systems without including wind power generation. In the second stage, UC, ED, and OPF were solved by including a wind-power farm with 100 MW rated power connected to the system. The solution is based on 24-hour wind data forecasting, and 24-hour power demand's prediction.

Geomagnetically Induced Current Analysis in Malaysian Power Transmission System

For many decades, Geomagnetically Induced Current (GIC) has posed a significant risk over the electrical power grid infrastructures worldwide. The phenomenon occurs due to geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) and related space weather events arising from solar activity. It represents a potential hazard to the secure and safe operation of electrical power grids by causing half-cycle saturation of grounded High Voltage (HV) power transformers, relay misoperation, and increased reactive power demand in the power systems. Previous studies have shown that the occurrence of intense GIC is not limited to high and mid-latitude regions, but powerful space weather events can also result in intense GIC in power systems located in lower geographic latitudes. This study aims to estimate GIC and its impacts on a Malaysian power grid. A network model of the grid was constructed by using the Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E). This represents the first attempt to study GICs in south-eastern Asian power grids since a region is considered to have low GIC risk up to now. During the analysis, firstly, we exposed the entire power network which includes 500 kV, 275 kV, and 132 kV system voltages to different geoelectric field strengths in the 0–180° directions. The applied geoelectric fields were calculated based on benchmark value for 1 in 100 years of GMD events. Then we disconnected the 132 kV low voltage systems from the network model to investigate their influence on the calculated GICs. The results demonstrated that the most vulnerable substations to GMD events and experienced large GICs were those located in the middle of the Malaysian power network. The maximum GIC was recorded at substation 22 with the value of 44.58 A due to the peak electric field of 1.2 V/km at 100° field direction. Also, the results showed that the calculated GICs slightly increased when 132 kV systems were removed from the power network, especially at the substations directly connected to these systems.

Analyses and Comparisons of Generic and User Writing Models of HVDC System Considering Transient DC Current and Voltages

Analyses and comparisons of generic models and a novel modeling method of line-commutated converter (LCC)-based high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems are presented for the power system simulator for engineering (PSS/E) simulation tool. The main purposes are to describe the dynamics of the DC voltage and current of HVDC system and to improve estimation of the maximum values using the generic and proposed HVDC models when AC line-to-ground faults are occurred. For the generic HVDC models, the characteristics and limitations as well as parameter investigations are conducted. Three modules are also are developed for the proposed HVDC model, which are composed of (a) AC/DC conversion; (b) controller selection; and (c) DC line model. Case studies were conducted considering the real-operated HVDC system in Korea under the PSS/E and power systems computer aided design (PSCAD) simulation environments. The simulation results were compared with measured data from the real-operated HVDC system and the results from the PSCAD HVDC models considering single- and three-phase line-to-ground faults. The case study results show that a specific generic HVDC model in PSS/E can simulate the dynamics of the DC voltage and current after the AC line-to-ground faults. The case studies also showed that the proposed modeling method is effectively improves the estimation of the maximum DC voltage and current values for the AC line-to-ground faults.

Stability Improvement of The Iraqi Super Grid (400kV) using High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission

This research analyzes the level of the short circuit effect of the Iraqi super network and decides the suitable location for the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) connections in order to obtain the best short circuit reduction of the total currents of the buses in the network. The proposed method depends on choosing the transmission lines for Alternating current (AC) system that suffers from high Short Circuit Levels (SCLs) in order to reduce its impact on the transmission system and on the lines adjacent to it and this after replacing the alternating current (AC) line by direct current (DC) line. In this paper, Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E) is used to model two types of HVDC lines in an effective region of Iraqi networks and to perform comparative studies to test the location of Short Circuit Levels (SCLs) between an actual AC and AC/DC case study in a portion of the Iraqi national network. The results proved the effectiveness of this method in eliminating severe faults and unwanted short currents, and the results showed that the bipolar type is better in reducing Short Circuit Levels of the Iraqi network.

Investigating Small Modular Reactor's Design Limits for Its Flexible Operation With Photovoltaic Generation in Microcommunities

Abstract Use of flexible and dispatchable generation from the small modular reactors (SMRs) in combination with the nondispatchable generation from renewable energy systems (RES) can be an effective alternative to pursue the mandate of replacing the fossil-fuel based electricity with the carbon-neutral energy systems in the remote microcommunities. This paper evaluates the feasibility of SMRs' flexible operations in microcommunities with the photovoltaic (PV) generation as a case study. Considering the design limits of SMRs for (a) the range of net change in electrical power output and (b) the ramp rates of net change in turbine power, a power system study is conducted to cover the three aspects of flexible operations, namely: (1) Planned load-following, (2) Unplanned load-following, and (3) Frequency regulation. A generic governor model in power system simulator for engineering (PSS/E), a power system transmission and planning software, is adapted to incorporate the operating limits of the reactor for the dynamic simulation. The multitimescale approach, combining (a) steady-state time-series power flow analysis and (b) dynamic simulations with high-resolution solar irradiation datasets, is proposed to assess the implications of SMR's design limits. The results obtained on an existing remote feeder with three sets of operating limits—namely, the conventional, advanced and extreme limits of ramp rates juxtapose the SMRs' performance, given the challenging operating conditions with PV generation in remote locations. The results indicate that the SMR under study can accommodate the highest permissible PV penetration obtained by the hosting capacity analysis of the feeder under the clear sky conditions. However, dynamic simulations with the extreme PV variabilities show that the PV penetration level should be further limited so that the maximum deviations in SMR power levels stay within 40% of its rated capacity. SMR provides adequate frequency support for the PV penetration of up to 50% of the feeder maximum demand in this study.

Optimal Location of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Line using Genetic Algorithm

The aim of this research is to study the effect of HVDC transmission systems on reducing power losses and improving voltage profile. This paper presents a solution to the problems of an overloaded transmission line through selecting the optimal location for the HVDC system. For this purpose, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) uses to optimize the voltage profile, reduce power losses and handle power flow in overloaded transmission lines. MATLAB utilizes to engage both the GA and Newton Raphson method to solve the load flow problem. The proposed approach examined and tested on the IEEE Large Scale 57-bus test system. Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E) package Version 32.0 is used as practical part to solve the functions of power system performance. The results demonstrated the ability of the proposed method to determine the optimum location of the HVDC line which reduces power loss and improves the “voltage profile” of the bus.

Geomagnetic induced current modelling and analysis on high voltage power system

Geomagnetically induced current (GIC) has become a significant concern that can affect the electrical power grid by causing a half-cycle saturation of power transformers. This saturation leads to an increase in even and odd harmonic distortions and reactive power losses of transformers, which may consequence in improperly triggering relays, tripping reactive power (VAR) compensators and shunt capacitor banks. Also, these reactive losses, harmonic, and the stray flux resulted due to this saturation may lead to overheating windings and cores of power transformers and generators and hence blackout. In this paper, GIC analysis has been conducted on a modified IEEE-18 bus test system by using Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E) and Power System Computer-Aided (PSCAD/EMTDC) software. The simulation results have been obtained by considering a worst-case scenario of geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) by applying uniform induced electric fields with values of 10 V/km and 20 V/km at different directions with and without GIC blocking devices. Also, the impact of grounding resistances of the substations on calculated GIC due same mentioned induced fields has been investigated. The results show that the highest total reactive power losses across the system are obtained due to related induced electric fields at 120° and 300° storm angle. After the connection of GIC blocking devices to the substations, these reactive losses have drastically reduced. In addition, simulation results of the same test system by using PSCAD platform are obtained to investigate hysteresis and harmonic results during system operation and the presence of GIC.

A Study on Optimal Power System Reinforcement Measures Following Renewable Energy Expansion

Renewable energy generation capacity in Korea is expected to reach about 63.8 GW by 2030 based on calculations using values from a power plan survey (Korea’s renewable energy power generation project plan implemented in September 2017) and the “3020” implementation plan prescribed in the 8th Basic Plan for Long-Term Electricity Supply and Demand that was announced in 2017. In order for the electrical grid to accommodate this capacity, an appropriate power system reinforcement plan is critical. In this paper, a variety of scenarios are constructed involving renewable energy capacity, interconnection measures and reinforcement measures. Based on these scenarios, the impacts of large-scale renewable energy connections on the future power systems are analyzed and a reinforcement plan is proposed based on the system assessment results. First, the scenarios are categorized according to their renewable energy interconnection capacity and electricity supply and demand, from which a database is established. A dynamic model based on inverter-based resources is applied to the scenarios here. The transmission lines, high-voltage direct current and flexible alternating current transmission systems are reinforced to increase the stability and capabilities of the power systems considered here. Reinforcement measures are derived for each stage of renewable penetration based on static and dynamic analysis processes. As a result, when large-scale renewable energy has penetrated some areas in the future in Korean power systems, the most stable systems could be optimally configured by applying interconnection measure two and reinforcement measure two as described here. To verify the performance of the proposed methodology, in this paper, comprehensive tests are performed based on predicted large-scale power systems in 2026 and 2031. Database creation and simulation are performed semi-automatically here using Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E) and Python.

A novel data-driven method for detection and localization of power system events causing violation of pre-defined ROCOF limits

For reliable operation of a power system, its situational awareness should be accurate. Similarly, for power system planning, correct post-mortem analysis of system events is required. A novel event assessment method based on the energy of system frequency and generator's rotational speed measurements has been proposed in this paper which can be used for both the real-time as well as off-line event assessment purposes. In this paper, event detection is carried out based on the magnitude of the second difference of the energy of machine's rotational speed/system frequency measurements. A detection threshold has been designed for this purpose. It successfully assesses multiple events occurring in small time interval. For event localization, a novel indicator named 'Sharpness Index' has been proposed in this paper. Performance of the proposed approach has been compared with a few existing methods and found to be more accurate and comprehensive. This proposed event assessment technique has been tested for various test cases simulated using PSS/E (Power System Simulator for Engineering) as well as real PMU (phasor measurement unit) measurements.

Transient Stability Enhancement and Critical Clearing Time Improvement for Kurdistan Region Network using Fact Configuration

The Electrical power system has become vast and more complex, so it is subjected to sudden changes in load levels. Stability is an important concept which determines the stable operation of the power system. Transient stability analysis has become one of the significant studies in the power system to ensure the system stability to withstand a considerable disturbance. The effect of temporary occurrence can lead to malfunction of electronic control equipment. The application of flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices in the transmission system have introduced several changes in the power system. These changes have a significant impact on the power system protection, due to differences inline impedance, line current and voltage. On the distance relaying protection system to identify essential issues that protection engineers need to consider during the stages of design and operation of the protection system. Transient analysis can be conducted using a simulation software package. One of the commercial simulation software package used by industry worldwide is Siemens Power System Simulation for Engineering (PSS/E). The object of this work is to improve the Transient stability and to clear critical fault times of the Kurdistan Region Government (KRG) network by using optimal FACTS devices in different optimal locations under fault conditions.

Analysis on the behavior of line differential protective relaying with solar PV penetration

Power System Protection is very important in electrical power system as it minimizes power supply interruption to customers, and also prevents damages to electrical equipment. Lately, renewable energy (RE) penetration in power system helps to support and fulfil the increasing demand of electricity to customers. However, the contribution of power from RE such as solar photovoltaic (PV) will increase the fault level and lead to reverse power flow; thus, it will affect power system protection reliability. This paper focuses on evaluating the reliability of differential protection relay during steady state, internal and external faults conditions when the power system is without and with solar PV penetration. Steady state and three-phase symmetrical line fault will be simulated in IEEE 39 bus test system using Power System Simulation for Engineering (PSS&lt;sup&gt;®&lt;/sup&gt;E) software.

Optimal location of unified power flow controller genetic algorithm based

&lt;p&gt;Now-a-days the Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) technology is very effective in improving the power flow along the transmission lines and makes the power system more flexible and controllable. This paper deals with overload transmission system problems such as (increase the total losses, raise the rate of power generation, and the transmission line may be exposed to shut down when the load demand increase from the thermal limit of transmission line) and how can solve this problem by choosing the optimal location and parameters of Unified Power Flow Controllers (UPFCs). which was specified based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimization method, it was utilized to search for optimum FACT parameters setting and location based to achieve the following objectives: improve voltages profile, reduce power losses, treatment of power flow in overloaded transmission lines and reduce power generation. MATLAB was used for running both the GA program and Newton Raphson method for solving the load flow of the system The proposed approach is examined and tested on IEEE 30-bus system. The practical part has been solved through Power System Simulation for Engineers (PSS\E) software Version 32.0 (The Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E) software created from Siemens PTI to provide a system of computer programs and structured data files designed to handle the basic functions of power system performance simulation work, such as power flow, optimal power flow, fault analysis, dynamic simulations...etc.). The Comparative results between the experimental and practical parts obtained from adopting the UPFC where too close and almost the same under different loading conditions, which are (5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) of the total load. can show that the total active power losses for the system reduce at 69.594% at normal case after add the UPFC device to the system. also the reactive power losses reduce by 75.483% at the same case as well as for the rest of the cases. in the other hand can noted the system will not have any overload lines after add UPFC to the system with suitable parameters.&lt;/p&gt;
