Industrial PLC Network Modeling and Parameter Identification Using Sensitivity Analysis and Mean Field Variational Inference

A multiple input multiple output (MIMO) power line communication (PLC) model for industrial facilities was developed that uses the physics of a bottom-up model but can be calibrated like top-down models. The PLC model considers 4-conductor cables (three-phase conductors and a ground conductor) and has several load types, including motor loads. The model is calibrated to data using mean field variational inference with a sensitivity analysis to reduce the parameter space. The results show that the inference method can accurately identify many of the model parameters, and the model is accurate even when the network is modified.

Electric Power System Monitoring and Theft Detection using Power Line Communication

Electric power theft is a serious concern in the world irrespective of being major revenue losses and developing a nation. More than one-third part of the electricity generated power is lost due to electric theft, power loss, and inefficiencies in the distribution system. Interdicted or illegal utilization of electricity has not only affected economically but also obstructs the design and modeling phases of the power system. Due to electric theft, providing wrong data input values for power system analysis and difficult to load forecasting. In this paper, an inventive Simulink model is designed to detect and monitoring of electric power theft in power system distribution networks through Power Line Communication (PLC). Electric power theft was detected with variance amendment in the amplitude of carrier signal with a narrow band. PLC technique is utilized for data communication over the power line. A narrow band power line carrier signal which has high frequency transferred in power line alongside with power frequency signal. The deviation in the amplitude of the transmitted carrier signal is monitored at the regular time- intervals and the stealing of electricity can be distinguished by the computing of distinction change within the amplitude of the carrier signal. In a normal case, the signal present fixes pattern and waveform, but in the case of power theft, the signal shows some variation and disturbance in a within waveform pattern. A pattern recognition and monitoring approach is used for direct power theft in the PLC model. The Simulink model is performed on MATLAB software to analyze the performance and efficient results that satisfy the proposed Simulink model.

Statistical Learning for Service Quality Estimation in Broadband PLC AMI

In this paper, we propose a method to estimate communication performance for the advanced metering infrastructure that employs the power line communication (PLC) technology. Using bit-per-symbol signals from the PLC network management system, we estimate a PLC model quality in terms of packet success rate based on statistical learning. We also verify the accuracy of the estimations by comparing them with measured communication test results at test sites. Finally, from the packet success rate estimate, the qualities of services, such as meter readings and time-of-use pricing data downloading under several metering protocol sequences, are investigated through a mathematical analysis, and numerical results are provided.

Power Line based Data Communication (as A Cost Effective Solution to Traditional System) and Interleave Division Multiple Access

Objectives: This paper presents a novel generalized PLC transceiver architecture (in IDMA system) and also compares the Channel frequency response based performance of PLC (in IDMA system) by varying the number of channels. Methods: The Matlab software is used for Simulation of Power Line Communication model. Multipath channel model for PLC is the model employed for considering the effect of multipath fading, frequency selective fading, physical signal propagation effects in main network and effect of impedance mismatching. The dispersive nature of channel is the base approach used for considering the effect of Intersymbol Interference. Single carrier modulation, FSK, QPSK, or other modulation methods are used as the modulation technique for narrowband applications on power lines. Power Line model Simulated Result for 4 and 15 number of channels concludes the relation between the parameters frequency, magnitude and phase. Findings: It shows the improvement in attenuation (frequency-dependent) and the frequency selective fading in Power Line Channel. The deep notches in the Frequency Response of the channel get reduced hence resulting in the attenuation improvement. By using IDMA with PLC, we can achieve a communication system which inherits the advantages of both schemes IDMA as well as power line channel. Wide variation in the Data rates can be achieved using power line communication. PLC major advantage is that its uses an existing infrastructure, so the cost of communication will get reduced. With PLC which can work over the various frequencies, communication becomes easier and maximum bandwidth can be utilized. Power Line (carrier) Communication system can be preferred choice over wireless or other Home Networking technology because of its easy installation and availability. PLC technology promotes data communication of medium and low voltage power lines. Application: It involves the delivery of Communication signal with maximum efficiency over PLC applications. Frequency selective fading gets improved with increase in the number of channels when the PLC is used as the media of communication in IDMA system. Applications of New Power Line Communication Model for Smart Grids

A new grid system structure requirement would be irresistible in the near future. That system should be able to provide remote controls for the development of more efficient, more convenient and more reliable systems. In the smart grids, data transmission and its communication infrastructure in order to better control will be an important function. Therefore, control requirements and communication structures of electrical grids are examined in this paper. The power line communication (PLC) system is discussed for the smart grid system. Then new PLC system model is created, which is used in smart grid communication system, is simulated by Matlab Simulink ®. The simulation results have been achieved then tested to applicability of smart grid communication system.

Multiwire Power Line Communication Model

The article describes possibility of extension well known two-wire communication models for multiple wire power line communication model. Power lines are usually solved as three phase lines, sometimes with neutral line and grounding. For the modeling of these phenomena transmission line model is extended. Parameters there are represented by matrices. Finally, the example shows how to use the model to simulate the behavior of the transmission of communication signals over high voltage wires and comparison with two-wire model.

Primarily, it is focused on a realization of a communication model with a power line channel. The model is composed of a PLC communication model, a model of power lines and a noise model. Power lines are modelled through a chain parameter describing the relation between the input and output voltage and current of the two-port network.

Iterative Coding for High Speed Power Line Communication Systems

Abstract In this paper, we simulate and analyze performance of iterative coding scheme, double binary turbo code, for high speed power line communication (PLC) systems. PLC system has hostile environment for high speed data transmission, so error correction method is necessary to compensate effects of PLC channel. We employ the PLC model proposed by M. Zimmerman and Middleton Class A interference model, and system performance is evaluated in terms of bit error rate (BER). From the simulation results, we confirm double binary turbo code provides considerable coding gains to PLC system and BER performance is significantly improved as the number of iteration increase. It is also confirmed that BER performance increases as code rate is lager, while it decreases as the code rate is smaller.
