The power consumption of access networks is the major – concern of today scientific community. The demand for high data rates along with the rapid increase of internet users requires power efficient access technologies. In this paper, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model is developed to minimize the overall power consumption in optical – wireless access network. To test the model, a random traffic profile has been generated and analyzed. The results show that powering off some active devices during low traffic times effectively reduces the network power consumption. Also, the using of the mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model under different traffic profile ratios results in a significant drop in power consumption by about 31%, 23% and 20% at different traffic values.
