Evaluating the attractiveness of architectural destinations with content analysis method and artificial intelligence: the case of Ankara

ABSTRACT Determining the attractiveness of architectural destinations is important in revealing why visitors prefer these places. The study will help to identify the positive and negative aspects of buildings in terms of tourism in a wide scope and will also guide architects and designers in building design. From this point of view, the sample area of this study was determined as the city of Ankara. Ankara is a potential tourism destination as it is both the country’s capital and home to many historical buildings that shed light on the Republican era. The study method is based on content analysis of the comments of domestic and foreign tourists on architectural structures in the city on Tripadvisor, one of the leading digital travel platforms. The study is limited to eight (8) architectural structures. By analyzing the comments on the travel platform, the prominent themes in the attractiveness elements of architectural structures were identified. Although the numerical values obtained with artificial intelligence are different, the prominent contents are the same. The ability of artificial intelligence to interpret and analyze concepts constitutes an important method for qualitative analysis. As a result, the study found that the most attractive elements of architectural destinations for visitors are historical, cultural, and architectural values.

From Mining to Tourism: Assessing the Destination’s Image, as Revealed by Travel-Oriented Social Networks

Mining communities often rely on tourism as a vehicle for post-mining territorial development. Sometimes, these expectations of the locals are justified by the natural setting and/or the well-preserved industrial heritage; however, these potential tourist destinations are disadvantaged primarily by their image, often associated with decay in the perception of travellers. In this paper, we treat travellers as stakeholders, able to decisively influence the image of a destination by uploading content (photos, reviews and ratings) on Google Maps and TripAdvisor, and we emphasise that user-generated content should be considered when shaping the tourism development strategies. Taking as case studies three former mining regions trying to capitalise on their tourist potential—Jiu Valley and Ștei, in Romania and La Louvière, in Belgium—this article proposes a method for assessing the image of the destination, also aiming to identify those aspects that require improvement.

Pengembangan Objek Wisata Tongkonan Karuaya Di Lembang Tumbang Datu Kecamatan Sangalla’ Utara

Tourism villages have become a major concern in efforts to develop local economies and preserve culture in many regions. Tongkonan Karuaya is one of the tourist attractions in Lembang Tumbang Datu. Visitors can use this area to get to know the typical Toraja customs and culture. This article aims to analyze the development of the Karuaya tourist attraction as a potential tourist destination to support the local economy. The research method used is a qualitative approach by collecting data through interviews, field observations and analysis of related documents. The research results show that the Karuaya tourist attraction has a variety of attractions and cultural heritage. However, challenges such as limited facilities, lack of promotion and the need for infrastructure improvements still need to be addressed. This research underlines the importance of collaboration between local communities and the private sector to optimize the potential of the Karuaya tourist attraction as a sustainable economic resource and utilizing technology such as social media can be an effective tool for introduce the Tongkonan Karuaya tourist attraction to a wide audience, increase its attractiveness, and improve.

Study of Environmental Carrying Capacity on Three Potential Tourism Destinations of Lumajang Regency, East Java

Lumajang Regency in East Java Province has significant potential for tourism development due to its intersection with the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS). The purpose of this research is to assess the Environmental Carrying Capacity (DDTL) of toruism area to provide a foundation for sustainable tourism development planning in Lumajang Regency. The research focuses on three tourist destinations: Ranu Pane, Wotgalih Beach, and Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. The method used is the DDTL calculation approach by Cifuentes (1992), which includes Physical Carrying Capacity (PCC), Real Carrying Capacity (RCC), and Effective Carrying Capacity (ECC). Data was collected through observation, literature study, and interviews with key stakeholders. The analysis results display the PCC, RCC, and ECC values in sequence for each location: Ranu Pane (9,941; 1,228; 1,228), Wotgalih Beach (1,641; 1,068; 1,068), and Tumpak Sewu Waterfall (312; 25; 25). The ECC value can serve as a metric for measuring the DDTL status of tourist locations in comparison to the average number of tourists. Ranu Pane and Wotgalih Beach have an ECC value greater than 1,000 when compared to the average number of tourists, which ranges from 500 to 900 people per day. Therefore, their status has not yet exceeded the DDTL. In contrast, Tumpak Sewu Waterfall has an ECC value of less than 50 with an average number of tourists exceeding 100 people per day, and its status is classified as having exceeded the DDTL limit. These results can be considered by the Lumajang Regency Government when planning the development of tourist destinations.

The Suitability Level of Ecotourism Characteristics in the Sipin Lake Tourist Destination in Jambi City

The activity of tourism has more potential to be a new income source in an area with tourism destination. The united nations world tourism organization (UNWTO) released the number of world tourism activities in 2018, which reached 1.4 billion. Global development, including tourism development, is guided by the SDGs. The form of increasingly dynamic tourism activities cannot be separated from the existence of attractions, amenities, accessibility, and institutional services. Jambi City has the tourism object of Sipin Lake as a potential tourism destination that has yet to be developed maximally to have high competitiveness. The research aims to assess the suitability level of ecotourism aspects at the Sipin Lake tourist destination. The analysis method used is a quantitative method using the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) method. The average result of the level of suitability of all variables of the characteristics of ecotourism is 60%, where attractions (61%), accessibility (101%), amenities (61%), institiutional services (42%), and environmental conservation (34%).

QUICK ANALYSIS AND STRATEGY MIX MARKETING TO IMPROVE TOUR PACKAGE SALES IN BALI

This study aims to examine the right marketing mix strategy to increase tour packages on the island of Serangan, Bali which can be a benchmark in the development of tour packages in other potential tourist destinations area. Mix method (qualitative and quantitative) research, sampling of data used by random sampling. All variables (product, price, place or distribution channel, promotion) in the study were written in the IE matrix and analyzed using SWOT analysis, EFAS, and IFAS tables. Based on SWOT analysis can be explained that (1) Strengths Opportunities strategy is made by taking advantage of existing opportunities by optimizing internal strengths, maintaining the original strategy that has been implemented, and improving the conditions that have been achieved. (2) Strengths Threats strategy was made with the internal strengths of the Turtle Conservation and Education Center and overcoming existing external threats. (3) Weaknesses Opportunities strategy is implemented based on exploiting existing opportunities by minimizing internal weaknesses owned by the Turtle Conservation and Education Center on Serangan Island. (4) Weakness Threats strategy is based on business activities to minimize existing weaknesses and avoid external threats. The position of the SWOT quadrant is based on the x quadrant axis which is located at point 3.18 and the y quadrant axis is located at point 2.42, placed in Quadrant 1 so that it can be categorized as an aggressive support strategy. The growth strategy is designed to achieve growth in sales, assets, profits, or a combination of both. This can be achieved by lowering prices, developing new products, increasing product or service quality, or increasing access to a wider market. That strategy can be applied in other potential tourist destination areas.

One of the potential tourist destinations in West Sumatra Province is Payakumbuh, Payakumbuh has a good positioning in preparing for the arrival of tourists from Muslim countries and regions because Islamic culture has been well ingrained and integrated with the philosophy of life of the traditional minang people, adat basandi sarak, sarak basandi kitabullah. In order for halal tourism in Payakumbuh to grow, supporting components such as sharia hotels need to be developed. This study aims to explore and describe the potential of sharia hotels in Payakumbuh, and propose development strategy by exploring this potential. This study uses qualitative method to define problems and present sharia hotel development strategies. With the repeal of Permenparekraf number 2 of 2014, there is lack of legislation, especially related to sharia hotel regulations, so an active role of the government is needed in socializing the concept of sharia hotels by providing training, education and technical guidance to local government officials, hoteliers, communities and related parties through workshops, professional education/training, focus group discussions and mock studies as well as required commitment from business actors in implementing the principles of sharia hotel management in accordance with the Fatwa of the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Ulama Council (DSN-MUI) Number 108/DSN-MU/X/2016, so that Muslim tourists receive protection from the halal aspects of products, services and hotel business management. With good quality and standardized sharia-based hotel services, a good hotel brand image will be created for Muslim tourists and will create a revisit intention.

Ecotourism Development Strategy of Mangrove Forest in Kurau Timur Village, Koba District, Bangka Tengah Regency

East Timur Village has pristine mangrove areas. It has much potential that can be developed, one of which is mangrove ecotourism which is directly managed by the people of East Kurau Village. Mangrove ecotourism still need to optimize its potential tourism destination object. The research aims to formulate a development strategy for Mangrove Ecotourism in East Kurau Village, Koba District, Central Bangka Regency. The research uses a qualitative approach with IFAS (Internal Factors Analysis Strategy) and EFAS (External Factors Analysis Strategy). The data is collected through in-depth interviews with related stakeholders, questionnaires distributed to tourists, and field observations. Moreover, the indicators used to measure the data include accessibility, infrastructure, and other supporting aspects. The ecotourism strategy is answered using the SWOT analysis method. The results from matrix calculations of IFAS and EFAS show that the value of the X-axis was 0.93 and of the Y-axis was 0.88. This indicates that the strategic position was at the quadrant I, with the strategic formulation of S-O (aggressive strategy). Some strategies have been formulated, including: Supporting mangrove conservation and creative economic business management; Establishing cooperation in providing supporting infrastructure; Optimizing cooperation in providing education on the benefits of mangroves; and Increasing the government’s commitment to mangrove development.

Exploration of student environmental attitude through integrated learning of local potential tourist destinations in Central Lombok

This study explores students' environmental attitudes when participating in science learning that applies tools integrated with the local potential of Central Lombok tourist destinations. This research is descriptive. This research was conducted at junior high school MTsN 3 Lombok Tengah. The research subjects were 28 students from one of class VII. The tools used consist of lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessment instruments that integrate the local potential of Central Lombok tourist destinations. The instruments used are interview guidelines with teachers, observation sheets of learning implementation, and environmental attitude questionnaire instruments validated by expert validators. The results of this study indicate that the average value of environmental attitude in each indicator includes; (a) understanding norms about protecting the environment, which obtains a score of 60 which is included in the good category, (b) knowing the environment that must be maintained obtains a score of 50 which is included in the fairly good category, and (c) demonstrating a commitment to protecting the environment obtains a score of 59 which is included in the good category. These results indicate that using learning tools integrated with the local potential of Central Lombok tourist destinations in the sub-material Interaction of Living Things with the environment for class VII can train students' environmental attitudes.

Sawah Baru Landscape Identification for Agroedutourism Agriculture 4.0, A Community-Based Development Project

IPB University has adequate agricultural land facilities and infrastructure for education and research activities. It has the potential to be developed into an agricultural area 4.0 for agrotourism activities, one of which is in the landscape of the Babakan Education Garden or Farm Teaching Sawah Baru located in Babakan Village, Dramaga District, Bogor Regency. This study aims to identify the character of the Sawah Baru landscape for the development of community-based agricultural agrotourism 4.0. The analysis used in this study used direct observation of the field and the literature study method. The identification of several aspects in the field is carried out using drones to obtain aerial photos, which are then processed using software to produce orthophotos and continue to digitize the boundaries of the research location using spatial analyst tools. The stages of identifying new rice field landscapes for the development of community-based agricultural agrotourism 4.0 include several stages, namely the preparation and inventory stages. The results of the identification of several aspects consisting of landscape sustainability, potential tourist attraction and tourism-supporting potential show that in terms of landscape sustainability, the criteria of each existing aspect are excellent and suitable to be developed into tourist destinations. Regarding potential tourist destinations, the study area presents aspects that have the potential to attract visitors. Finally, regarding tourism-supporting potential, Sawah Baru has tourism-supporting aspects that are quite adequate to meet the needs of tourism activities. However, there is still a need to create additional facilities and utilities that can support user activity on the site. A Novelty Methodological Approach to Coastal Scenic Quality Evaluation—Application to the Moroccan Mediterranean Coast

Many tourists around the world are interested in coastal sites of exceptional scenic quality. This paper aims to assess the landscape quality of 50 sites along the Moroccan Mediterranean coast based on a novelty Coastal Scenic Quality Evaluation (CSQE) method able to classify the attractiveness of the sites and to distinguish exceptional ones with high tourist potential. This proposed methodology relies on evaluating coastal areas through easily obtainable indicators in order to simplify its application to other regions around the world. Four landscape dimensions were selected: Substratum, Sea-Coastal Area, Vegetation and Scenic Background. Each dimension was numerically assessed and ranged from 0 to 1. The values of each dimension along the sites were classified as: <0.2 (very low); 0.2 to <0.4 (low); 0.4 to <0.6 (medium); 0.6 to <0.8 (high) and ≥0.8 (very high). The results show that the overall scenic quality score of the Moroccan Mediterranean coast is 0.6 (high quality), reflecting a potential tourist destination of high scenic value. Substratum, Sea-Coastal Area and Vegetation dimensions obtained a high quality score (0.6 to <0.8), while the Scenic Background dimension recorded medium quality (0.4 to <0.6). Urbanization, the presence of litter and sewage evidence were the main factors of degradation of the Moroccan coastal landscapes, i.e., 32 out of 50 sites (64%) obtained low scores (from 0 to 2) for these three variables. Sound management actions have to be taken to reduce their impacts, in order to preserve and improve the natural landscape, and strength its capacity to host the various tourist activities.

The development of a tourist destination area is one thing that must always be considered and implemented, because the development of a tourist destination area determines what the future of the tourist destination area will be like. Taman Wisata Iman is a potential tourist destination that needs to be developed. This is because the features of the religious tourism park itself are very different from pine forests in general. The presence of houses of worship for five religions in Indonesia makes this religious tourism park a place of worship or a resting place for tourists. Each building in Taman Wisata Iman has its own meaning. For example, in Islam, residents are given a replica of the Kaaba for pilgrimage rituals. The large statue of Adam and Eve celebrates the beginning of human life on earth. Apart from worship at the Usko tourist park, visitors can enjoy camping, outdoor activities, children's playgrounds and shopping for souvenirs at the Usko tourist park. Usko tourism park also often organizes events to support tourism development, such as charity events for park maintenance in pine forests, scout weekend camps and many more. The purpose of this study is to analyze and become material that supports the development of attractions at Taman Wisata Iman Sitinjo. In this study the implementation activities and the impact of the implementation are described in a narrative manner using qualitative methods. Data collection techniques with observation, interviews and documentation. Methods of data analysis with data reduction, presentation and triangulation. The results of the study show that the role of the community and government in the development of the Sitinjo Iman Tourism Park as a tourist destination is very impressive. This was revealed through interviews with managers and employees of the Dair Regency Tourism Office. Year after year, this relatively minimal development repeatedly makes visitors bored and don't want to visit. The number of support services that are not paid attention to also makes visitors rate Taman Wisata Iman reviews on websites and personal blogs as lacking, which leads to a decrease in tourist interest. In the future, the authors hope that the management and government will pay more attention to the Iman Tourism Park tourist attraction by adding other tourist objects so that tourists don't get bored easily, and also pay attention to support services so that they can be repaired or improved immediately.

ASSESSMENT OF POTENTIAL TOURIST DESTINATIONS BY AN INTEGRATED TOURISM INVESTMENT MODEL USING ANALYTICAL HIERARCHY PROCESS (AHP)

Defining potential tourist destinations among all the tourist destinations is one of the important purposes for tourists as well as tourism investors. The objective to be achieved in this study is to assess the potential tourist destinations based on the tourism investment criteria and also to rank all those individual potential tourist destinations by Integrated Tourism Investment Model using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. In this study, the Alipurduar District of the State of West Bengal, India, has been chosen as the study area. Tourism in the Alipurduar District is one of the most promising and emerging sectors. The study uses both analytical and practical research methods.

Pengembangan Potensi Pariwisata Desa Pengkol

Tourism is one of the leading sectors in several regions that potentially increase the regional income and open up business opportunities for the surrounding community. As a local and foreign tourist destination, the Special Region of Yogyakarta has many unique tourist attractions that are the main tourists’ attraction. Pengkol Village which is located in Patuk District, Gunungkidul Regency, the Special Region of Yogyakarta has some potential tourist destinations. Through the Kuliah Kerja Nyata which was took place in Pengkol Village, authors proposes to develop the tourism potential of Mount Keruk, Mount Genter and cultural art tourism in Pengkol Village. This tourism development proposal is based on the literature review and secondary data related to the Pengkol Village’s potential, identification of problems, data analysis that narrows to solving tourism development problems. Some of the solutions offered to increase tourist visits are the addition of supporting facilities to increase comfort for the visitors and hold cultural arts performances at tourist sites.

The popularity of Korean culture around the world has made people affected by this culture. This Korean culture well known as Korean Wave or Hallyu phenomena cover various aspects such as drama, music, fashion, make-up and etc. Korean Wave or Hallyu is a term to describe South Korean pop culture that has been successfully exported across the globe, including Indonesia specifically in Manado City. The objectives of this study are to determine the students in Sam Ratulangi University Manado perceive South Korean images as a Potential tourist destination that is seen in Korean Pop, Korean dramas, and Korean Food could lead to the intention to visit South Korea in the future. The research respondents were 108 respondents. Questionnaire distribution is carried out online using Google Form. The method that researchers use in this study is a quantitative method. The data analysis method used was multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS as a data processing tool. The results from research data on the influence of the Korean Wave on the South Korean tourism sector, researchers found that Korean wave (K–Pop, K–Drama, K–Food) influence the students intention to make South Korea as a Potential Tourist Destination. Nature Tourism in Muar River Valley

Sungai Muar or Muar River is special. Passing through three states of Peninsular Malaysia, it originates in Negeri Sembilan, passes briefly in Malacca, into Johor and ends into the Straits of Malacca. Though laden with history and presently undergoing much socio-economic development, the importance of this river remains inconspicuous, as it is simply known as Sungai Muar. This paper proposes that a geographical official entity be recognized for this river and its surrounding areas as Muar River Valley (MRV) or in Malay, Lembangan Sungai Muar to enhance any future planning and development which would be site-based, thus giving due recognition to the river. Essential data was researched. The geophysical information of MRV is gathered, which forms the first objective of the research. To realistically prove its importance as an official entity, the tourism development was chosen. This research examined previous and potentially new nature tourism research. These are then marked on the map and thus a simple visual appreciation to understand the potential of nature tourism of MRV is easily seen. Hence, a map is produced for existing tourism activities and potential tourism destinations and products in MRV. This forms the second objective. To further enhance, a venture such as nature tourism, that could increase the appreciation to the importance of MRV, a nature tourism product development was done and described, forming the third objective. The exemplary product development is based on a newly recognized oyster species, endemic to MRV named as Crassostrea (Magallana) saidii sp. nov.. All data for the three objectives were obtained through literature search using search engine like Google. Additional methods include interviewing through phone calls, face-to-face, and also Google Meet to obtain information related to land use, drainage and irrigation systems around Bandar Maharani, along with the topography around the extent of Muar District, as basic requirement for the proposal of MRV. Finally, the newly recognized oyster is developed into a tourism product of which the proposed 3 hours package include activities such as observing traditional harvesting of the oysters and tasting of oyster dishes. To complete the nature tourism product development, prototypes of souvenirs are made from shells of the new oysters. For conservation purpose, souvenirs are also made from common species. This recommendation to officiate the designation of MRV would be made to the state government of Johore, through the Muar District Office.

Instagram as a Tool to Counter the Image of Countries as Unsafe: the Case of #LiveLoveLebanon

The emergence of social media has created new means of intercultural engagement. On Instagram, there is a growing trend of travel pages and travel bloggers whose aim is to introduce and share the highlights of the destinations they travel to. Locals in these destinations also wish to portray their country positively and promote it as a tourist destination, particularly in certain countries of the Middle East where there is the added challenge of an ‘unsafe’ image to combat. This research focuses on Lebanon to find out to what extent Instagram can be considered a means to this end, and if users who come across depictions of Lebanon on Instagram perceive the country as a potential tourist destination. The study draws on Said’s conception of the ‘other’ (1978), Hall’s system of representations (1980) and Pieterse’s hybridization paradigm (1996), and it used a mixed methods approach combining surveys and semi-structured interviews with Canadian participants. Findings broadly show that while Instagram can effectively be considered a tool to counter the ‘unsafe’ image of Lebanon, and while the country may be branded as a potential tourist destination to users who come across favorable depictions of it, algorithm restrictions limit the potential for such contents to fulfill their potential as they do not always reach users who perceive Lebanon to be an ‘unsafe’ place.
