The compassionate care framework plus quality control group improves the quality of postoperative nursing management for patients in anorectal surgery: An observational study.

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the joint application of the compassionate care framework (CCF) and a quality control (QC) team in improving the quality of postoperative nursing management for patients in anorectal surgery. Patients who underwent anorectal surgery at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital between May 2022 and December 2022 were selected by convenience sampling. A digital random generator was used for random grouping. The odd numbers entered the control group (n = 53) and the even numbers entered the study group (n = 53). The control group received postoperative traditional nursing, and the study group received postoperative nursing and QC team management. A questionnaire survey was used to analyse patients' satisfaction with nursing. The two groups were compared for nursing quality scores, patient satisfaction with nursing care and incidence of complications. After management, compared with the control group, the study group scored significantly higher for the nursing process, environmental management, emergency response and safety protection (p < 0.05 for all). The study group also exhibited higher satisfaction scores with the nursing process, nurse-patient relationship and service attitude compared with the control group (p < 0.05 for all). The complication incidence rate in the study group was significantly lower than in the control group (p < 0.05). The combined use of the CCF and a QC team can effectively improve the quality of postoperative nursing management for patients in anorectal surgery, reduce the incidence of complications and enhance patient satisfaction with nursing care, thus holding significant potential for wider application.

Methods to Manage Edema and Reduce Flap Compression in Postoperative Nursing Care Following Trauma to the Lower Extremity.

Lower extremity edema and compression are potential causes of poor soft tissue healing and flap failure for patients who suffer lower extremity trauma. This review summarizes techniques aimed at reducing edema and mechanical pressure in these patients as well as those undergoing soft tissue coverage techniques. We conducted a literature review for postoperative nursing management to reduce edema in the lower extremity, following traumatic injury. To assist orthopaedic nurses in acute care settings, this review presents techniques for reducing edema and mechanical pressure in patients recovering from lower extremity trauma. The accompanying figures demonstrate how to apply these techniques. Techniques such as rope suspension, mini water mattresses, and pillow or blanket stacking were identified as measures that can reduce edema and compression for patients recovering from lower extremity trauma as well as those requiring soft tissue coverage procedures.

Effectiveness of Educational Program on Nurses’ Knowledge regarding Pre and Post-Operative Nursing Management

A study is conducted to assess the effectiveness of educational program on nurse's knowledge regarding pre and post-operative nursing management at Al-Sadder Medical City. The program and instrument are constructed and developed by the researcher to reach the purpose of the study. A quasi-experimental design study has been carried out in Al-Najaf City/Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Health Directorate/Al-Sadder Medical City from January 12th, 2018 to, September 13th, 2018. Purposive sample is comprised of 40 nurses divided into two groups: study group consists of 20 nurses which exposed to the educational program and control group consists of 20 nurses not exposed to the program. Measurement of effectiveness for educational program carried out through the use of knowledge test that include (40) items. Reliability of instrument is determined through the use of test and re-test, and the instrument validity is determined through a panel of experts. The results of the study show that the effectiveness of educational program about nurses’ knowledge regarding pre and post-operative nursing management is positive and evident. It also shows that there is a good development with highly significant differences in study group between pre and post-test in all items related to pre and post-operative nursing management.

The educational needs among obstetrical and gynecological nurses in El-Gharbia Governorate

Obstetrical and Gynecological nursing is a healthcare profession that focuses on the care of the women and newborn, for that reason Obstetrical and Gynecological nurses (OB/GYN nurses) should be highly knowledgeable and well trained caregivers for the overall safety and well-being of women from the moment of menarche to menopause. The aim of this study was to assess the educational needs among obstetrical and gynecological nurses in Gharbia Governorate. This study followed a descriptive design. The study was carried out at Tanta University Hospital and Zifta General Hospital these were selected using multistage random sample technique. The subjects of the study consisted of all obstetrical and gynecological nurses working in the previously mentioned settings (151 nurses). A structured interview questionnaire sheet was designed to collect the required data regarding the study elements. It comprised questions about socio-demographic and practice, general health educational programs, specific health educational programs and the specific health training programs. The main results of this study revealed that the majority of the nurses (90.7%) weren't attended any training courses in obstetrical and gynecological nursing. The results also illustrated that around one half of the studied nurses (56.1%) had low need for general theoretical education courses. The results also illustrated that 73.2%, 56.2% of the nurses in the study had low need for specific theoretical education courses and clinical training courses, respectively. The study concluded that the main general theoretical educational needs among the nurses in the study were; infection control, medical terminology, and decision making skills. While, the specific theoretical educational needs included: common medications during labor, normal labor, and emergency obstetrical and gynecological nursing. Also, the top clinical training needs among the nurses in the study were insertion and removal of IUD, immediate care of newborn, pre and post-operative nursing management and CPR. The study recommended the development of a series of continuing in–service training programs based on the educational needs assessment.

Despite growing numbers of ventricular assist device implants, literature about the challenging care of patients following ventricular assist device implantation is limited. This article focuses on the physiological basis for postoperative nursing management strategies and the most important complications of which critical care nurses need to be aware.

Total hip and total knee replacement: postoperative nursing management

Patients having total hip replacement (THR) or total knee replacement (TKR) surgery require skilled nursing care in order to recover from surgery and anaesthesia. The first part of this article will outline the key nursing management issues during the postoperative stage of recovery. The second part will consider the longer term recovery, including the risk of THR dislocation and failure of the prosthesis due to loosening or infection. The role of the nurse in primary and secondary care in monitoring and identifying complications will be highlighted. This is the second of two articles on nursing care for patients undergoing THR or TKR surgery. The first article (Lucas, 2008) looked at preoperative nursing care.

Home dressing removal following hypospadias repair

Hypospadias is a common congenital abnormality that is increasing in incidence. There are many articles describing different surgical techniques and the merits of different dressings following hypospadias surgery. This article describes postoperative nursing management in collaboration with each family following surgery. Listening to the wishes of parents identified ways in which improvements could be made to the patient journey. The involvement of parents in decision-making has been at the heart of developments in the care of boys who have hypospadias repair. A review of nursing care in combination with partnerships with paediatric community nursing teams has enabled the additional benefit of developing a home dressing removal service following hypospadias repair.

Aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage – Part 2: Post-operative nursing management diagnosis, complications and treatment: A composite case study

Patients who have been diagnosed with an Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage (ASAH) frequently require surgical intervention to prevent further complications. Due to the complex nature of ASAH it is imperative to be meticulous in monitoring the patient’s neurological condition. This is even more relevant post operatively as complications such as cerebral vasospasm peak incidence is between days four to fourteen and as well as complications of surgical and medical intervention may become evident.

Perianesthesia care of cardiac surgery patients: A CPAN review

Postoperative nursing management of cardiac surgery patients is considered part of perianesthesia nursing core curriculum by ASPAN. In many hospitals, however, these patients bypass the PACU and are admitted directly to the ICU. For that reason, perianesthesia nurses who do not have cardiothoracic surgical ICU experience need information related to the immediate postoperative routine and nursing care regimen of cardiac surgery patients. Bleeding, cardiac tamponade, low cardiac output syndrome, and dysrhythmias are postoperative complications that are discussed. En bloc resection of the temporal bone is an extensive and complicated surgical procedure for removal of malignancies of the ear and temporal bone. The lengthy surgical procedure (18 to 36 hours) and the resultant functional disabilities and cosmetic deformities create special nursing management concerns.
